Part 8

A Son's First Hero

It was a usual day for the Hizuris, the house keepers maintaining the the mansion clean, especially dealing with their employers' bedrooms and work spaces. But in the case of the youngest Hizuri, his mother decided it would be best to remodel his bedroom to match his stylish home office, thus Julie Hizuri wrecked everything and had the walls painted the same as her son's office.

Kuu for a change helped his wife and started to sort his youngest son's old possessions, and one caught his attention bringing him back to memory lane. With a smile he held an old Stetson hat he sneaked to keep as a souvenir from one of his action movies to give for his son. Letting the maids take over he took the old and well maintained headwear to his mancave and stare at it with fondness.

It was still early but he had to take a swig of one of his hard liquor collection and stopping himself from being emotional. "I wanna be as strong and cool as Poppa!" he heard and saw a figure of little Julianne wearing the oversized hat praising him and wanted to be that rancher hero from one of his movies. Placing it over the bar counter.

"Where'd you find it?" Kuon entered and took it, with a whistle impressed that the old thing is still in great condition, he wore it with a chuckle, "I remember Jules raving at his first grader friends becoming the next Randy." Teasing his father.

Kuu had a bitter snort, "And that the man he looked up as a hero fucked him up real good, robbed him of his confidence, felt being chased off, grew up quicker than others and worry of his own survival, learn things by himself, self loath, destruct, end his life and now he needs a furry four legged companion to keep his mental health stabled, and top everything off, he at times flinches and anticipate a swing from me whenever we talk." Gulping down the whole shot, "I feel very sick being reminded how I overlooked and missed so much in his life, to the point where he blamed himself for the shits that had happened... and the atrocities I did to him as a teen." Leaning back. "Kuon, I never wanted to hurt you and your brother, but there I was connecting a nuckle to his face multiple times before his departure and let's not speak of the times I slapped him too!" Kuu was really riding in guilt, "I broke... no... I wrecked his life son..." he also remembered the first few days his son's traumatized stares into blank space whenever he's in one room with Kuu alone. He'd flinch, get tremors and difficulty breathing.

Kuon gently placing down the hat making sure not to ruin it and sighed, "And I'm guilty of being the guy causing him all those trouble too..." Kuu turned and about to comfort him, "But since I escaped from all the mess I made, it was Jules who has to carry all the burden and deal with all the supposed punishment that was supposed to be mine." Kuu felt reaponsible for causing harm to his sweet youngest. Kuu was never the type to ground or be a strict father, but to prevent his youngest son into becoming the same as his eldest, out of fear and trauma, he became uptight and kept a close leash on Julianne, who has done nothing but make them proud since day one.

Hearing Kuon and remembering his mistakes as a father, he broke down to a sob and continued to cry. Kuon had to embrace him but he ended up being emotional too.

Taking another pour from the bottle, they calmed down, "Where's Jules, by the way?" Kuon finally asked, "Haven't seem him around the house."

Kuu relaxing and thinking of having the hat put into a glass case for safe keeping, "He went for another business meeting. He said he'll be expanding in Japan. It seems his friends works with the JSDF and wanted to have the manufacturing to be produced there instead to save shipping costs." Kuon grew amazed, "And he went to submit his thesis at the University."

Kuon winced, "And here I was struggling to pass my English subject 'my native language' back in middle school." Shaking his head.

Kuu chuckled, "Hey, you and Julianne excels in different things." Trying to comfort his eldest.

Kuon laughed, "Remember, Jules has always been an exceptional child actor and musician, he's just built different!" relaxing again. "So what are you going to do with that again?" pointing at the hat, "I'm sure Jules treasures that." Kuu looked surprised hearing that.

He snorted, "I doubt... He hates me." fiddling the brim with his thumb.

Kuon comforted his father in return, "He's opening up to you. Why don't you try and push a little. I mean you've been very careful but you will not make any progress if you remain within the safe zone." Kuon advised.

"I'll try that." Kuu hugged his son and went back to help his wife re-arranging their youngest's bedroom.

Truth to be told, Kuu had no idea how to appeal to Julianne until he laid eyes towards the nostalgic cowboy hat, "Kuu might have screwed up, but Randy will give it a shot." And grabbed his manager to head to a Stetson shop to look for a new western-head wear.

He ended up buying a pair of white Stetson Ranchers and he had the buckle-set customized into the initial of their last name. With a smile, he placed it back to the fancy box he requested, "Is this another of those impulsive midlife crisis purchase? I swear you are too old for those." Paul sighed remembering when Kuu bought a Ferrari out of impulse many years ago for no reason.

"No... This might help me with Julianne." He had hopeful eyes.

Paul stared at him weirdly, "Really? A hat? Your son can buy the whole damn company! Better yet build his own hat empire with his genius and money!"

Kuu shook his head, "Remember my old role as Randy?" taking his buddy to memory lane.

Paul squinted and went to the driver's seat to get them home, "Dawn at the Crossroad?" He asked and Kuu nodded.

With a fond chuckle, "I told Julianne about my role way back, he was so excited for the movie to come out and during the last days of the shoot, I took home the original cowboy hat for him. He loved it so much he kept wearing it until he was around fourth grade. I recently found it in his childhood room and it was in mint condition. He kept it!" He gave a big smile, "A father can hope I guess..." he said with a sad smile.

Paul with the approving nod, "That could work, and I'm glad you're doing what you can to help your relationship... WAIT! YOU WERE THE ONE WHO STOLE THE HAT?!" Slamming the breaks.

Kuu checking if the hats were not damaged, "HEY! Be careful!" breathing in relief he positioned it back neatly. "And yes, I mean I wanted to give something for Julianne something from his favorite hero." with a sad chuckled.

"I have to tell Louise about this." His manager rolled his eyes, "Poor Louise was wailing who took it, he wanted it to be auctioned after your film blew up internationally! But I guess it made little Julianne happy." He chuckled, "And he kept it?"

"Wanna see it? I had it put aside and placed in a glass. I want it in his office." Kuu grinned.

Paul snorted, "I'll take Louise to see it. I'll tell him that it went to a good owner that kept it safe and well." Shaking his head.

Arriving back, as usual his son was surrounded with personal security, his ever-loyal companion Diesel at his heel making sure he is not having one of those terrible anxiety attacks. Kuu and his son are attending father and son therapy after so much persuasion from Julie and Kyoko, with their relationship growing decently, Kuu can actually converse with his son without Julianne scoffing or making any rude, sarcastic side comments and even get random PTSD episode.

Straighten ing himself, "Hey son, how was the meeting?" Kuu gave him a hug which Julianne returned. Paul smiled at the sight of the father and son trying their best.

With a shrug that ticked Kyoko, "It went smoothly. I'm buying a hangar, and multiple military grade properties for a testing facilities in Japan. Apparently, Kuran requested I develop a lighter plate carriers and have a better biometric mobile-rifle mounts for their tactical vehicles." He sighed looking stressed.

"You just came back, loosen up a bit. Let's go meet with Kuon and hide from your mother first before she drags us on cleaning up your old stuff from your room." Pulling him to his mancave.

Shaking his head, "Mom is still cleaning the room?" baffled.

"Remodeling, you might wanna crash at the guest bedroom, she might take a week dealing with the paint. She can't decide." He laughed, "By the way, here." Giving him one of the boxes he was carrying.

Taking the present, "What's this?" Julianne confused.

Kuu just smiled, "Just open it when we get to the bar." When they entered, Kuon was there taking a nap from the sofa, Paul played a little prank and woke him up to join his father and brother.

Julianne immediately opened the box and found the same exact cowboy hat he had as a child, the one his father gave him as a souvenir, "I found the old Randy hat I gave you and you kept it well. I think that hat needs a retirement now and have it displayed." Taking out the older one placed in a stand within a fancy glass box. "I'll have a title plate made for this one so you can have it up in your display shelf near your first prototype rifle display."

Julianne remained silent which placed his father on edge, Julianne on the other hand was feeling upset knowing his hero as a boy neglected and wounded his feelings, still taking consideration his father was doing trying his best to fix their relationship, "Thanks." Putting it on.

"It now fits." Kuu chuckled, "It used to fall off whenever you're running." Adjusting and tipping it upwards wanting to see his son's eyes. "You look much more dashing than Randy did." He joke.

Paul laughed, "No shit! Randy was a dirty and greasy cowboy. Good thing his son looked slick and well mannered!" Paul insulted Kuu who then playfully punch his side.

Taking a good look at his son, "Im proud of you and how of a good man you came to be..." he said.

Julianne was taken a back with what his father said, "I would have flipped if my younger-self would hear it and hit my head to a bricked wall to confirm it. But now... I feel nothing." he nonchalantly said and flinched waiting for his father to hurt him. Kuu only looked sad and apologetic.

"I should've said it back then..." Kuu pulled out his own and wore it.

Kuon changed the subject by trying to joke, "Where's mine?" he complained and pouted, Kuu as a joke pulled out a racoon hat. Of course Kuon knew that that's something his father and brother should share since it was the best course of action his father can think of, but appreciated the racoon hat and happily wore it for a quick picture.

Kuon laughed at the stories, "Wait... So Director Louise wanted to have this auctioned at that time after Dad's movie went international?" Julianne looked surprised, Kuu felt happy that his son called him dad again, his boy rarely calls him that. Paul nodded with a sigh, "Please, Kindly call the director and have him come, I need to compensate him." Kuu and Paul was trying to stop him since it was supposed to be Kuu's collectible souvenirs, most veteran actors does the same, and in his case that hat was a present for his son.

Julianne appreciated that his father went far and beyond just to give him a very precious memento, "Hey, I wanted something sentimental for my son's first hero and that was rightfully yours. Louise was just putting the hat into auction because of those greedy collectors." Kuu sighed.

"Still please call him." And Paul did. Shortly the old Director arrived and he was faced by three-briefcases-of-cold-stacks-of-cash. His mouth was hanging but refused the payment.

"It is enough for me to know that the original hat went to you. You're Randy's boy and loved the character. I hope one day I can cast you instead?" He tried his luck.

Julianne just politely refused, "Acting was never for me, I might have acted when I was a teen but I don't feel like it. Maybe my brother, he's named Japan's number one for a reason." Kuon's hear soared being praised and referred by his brother.

the old director then turned to Kuon and Kuu, "So sequel of the movie?" He grinned, "But I know you don't like acting, but can you at least make a cameo?" Trying with Julianne again.

Leaning and resting his forearm over his thighs, "I'd give you a yes, provided I get a cut?" He teased.

Louise turned to Kuu, "Your baby boy is quite the crude businessman!" He gasped.

Kuu shrugged, "I told you." He snorted.

"But goodness! I cant believe this is in such great condition!" Taking a picture of the western-wear. Taking it out the glass box.

Julianne puts it on, Kuu looked proud and pleased, "Not tight, or loose?" He asked.

"Fits like a glove." adjusting it upwards.

"Let me take a picture of you!" Louise excitedly said, however with Julie barging in, Julianne ended up doing a mini modelimg session. Good thing he hasn't changed yet. In his crispy white dress shirt and being covered by his navy blue slim-cut blazer that matched his slim trousers, chucking in with a pair of brown leather loafers showing a bit of his bare ankles. His Business attire for the day is curtesy of his mother's brand, apparently he became his mother's walking billboard and the pairs and attires he flaunts every time becomes a trend, the same as his brother, sadly Kuon is still under contract with R-mandy and could not wear anything other than that brand.

It did not take long when Louise uploaded the picture of the younger Hizuri son in his home office donning the dashing attire his mother ensembled with the 'hat' his father smuggled years ago, social media blew up yet again and Kuu in fits of laughter came into defense uploading his own pictures including Julianne's childhood pictures wearing the hat and a touching caption.

Father and son wore the matching brand-new white Stetson Rancher, chilling by the huge infinity pool sharing his story why he took it home for his little boy named Julianne. He also shared how happy he was that his boy kept it well in a safe spot too, now loaded with multiple cowboy hats with the same design but different colors to match his son's suits combinations, it has become part of Julianne's iconic look.

Julie finally finished and grew satisfied of her son's bedroom, plus she filled his closet with new shirts and business attires he can wear in combo whenever he has meetings or just going out with the family. The hats made there place in his walk-in too after Kuu personally installed individual rack on a wall- he requested to be left alone for his plans. So far Kuu and his sons were bonding whenever they find the time and Julie was pleased knowing her husband is having a great time healing with their youngest.
