Come Home to Us, Randy [Chapter 3]
Let's go and find out, Bill; Betsy said. Okay, Betsy; Bill replied as they urged their horses into a run. There they are, Betsy; Bill said when they topped a rise. I see Steve, the
Virginian, and Randy's alright; Betsy said with a relieved sigh. But whose horse is Randy leading, Bill?; Betsy asked, for a moment not realizing what had happened. They must've
figured out Johnny was guilty and he shot it out with the boss and Steve, Betsy; Bill said. I hope Randy's alright; Betsy replied. Me too, Betsy; Bill said. He might be just a boy
still, but none of us boys could've asked for a better friend; Bill admitted. I agree with you about that; Betsy said fondly. Here comes the boss; Bill said as the Virginian neared them.
Hi, Betsy; the Virginian said when he saw her. Hello; Betsy said gently. Is Randy alright?; Betsy asked. He is now, Betsy; the Virginian replied. Thank heaven Steve got to us in time; he added.
What happened?; Betsy asked with a start. Randy's brother had me tied up and was going to kill both me and Randy too because he did'nt want any witnesses left, Betsy; the Virginian
said. Steve came and found us just in time; he said. We buried him where he died; the Virginian added. Oh, how awful!; Betsy said in shock. Thank heavens you're both safe; Betsy
said thankfully. How's Randy taking it all?; Betsy asked with concern. He's calm right now, Betsy; the Virginian replied. He knows Steve shot to save him and me both; he added.
He also knows that his brother lied to him and took advantage of his trust, too; the Virginian said. And Betsy, you and your father, and Steve and Trampas and I, we're the only family
he's got left; the Virginian said. And awhile ago, Randy was thinking he had no one; the Virginian added. I don't know about Daddy, but I love Randy like a brother and he's got a home here
with all of us; Betsy said gently. Will you keep an eye on him for awhile, Betsy?; the Virginian asked. Of course I will; she replied. I'm starting to feel a little lonely in the house
without Daddy and I think I'd like some company; Betsy added. So I'll ask Randy to stay in the guest bedroom tonight; Betsy said. Good idea, Betsy; the Virginian replied. Here they come;
Bill said when Steve and Randy started riding towards them. Hello, Randy; Betsy said, giving him a gentle smile. I'm glad to see you're alright; Betsy said gently. Do you want to ride back with
me, Randy?; Betsy asked kindly. I'd like that, Betsy; Randy said quietly. I'll take the horse, Randy; Bill said helpfully. Thanks, Bill; Randy said quietly. C'mon, Betsy, let's be gettin' on back; Randy
said as they turned their horses onto the road home. Would you like to stay up at the house with me for awhile, Randy?; Betsy asked, smiling gently. With my daddy gone on business it gets
a little lonesome and I would'nt mind some company; Betsy said smiling. I'd be glad to stay a spell, Betsy; Randy said with a small smile. I wanna be away from the other boys for awhile, anyway;
Randy added.
I'll certainly be glad to have you, Randy; Betsy said, smiling gently at him. And dont you worry, it's all going to be alright, Randy; Betsy said as they came through the Shiloh gate.
I sure hope so, Betsy; Randy said as they rode to the barn.
