Author's notes:
This chapter (will be the only one) which contains some references to other Animes. These are: Akame ga kill, Hunter X Hunter and 86(God I love 86). I definitely recommend watching all of them, but it's not necessary.
This chapter is quite short but it's a very important one. It's the only way I could think of to build this story and make it different from everything else, and to showcase how worlds change after countless centuries, and how civilization change, as well as showcase the pain of immortality that comes with it. I promise after this, we will dive deep into the Fairy Tail world.
Disclaimer: Once again, I don't own Naruto or Fairy Tail.
Chapter 2 - The Pain of Immortality
For centuries, Naruto and Sasuke had wandered the earth, their existence stretching beyond the lifespans of countless generations. They were timeless beings in a world that constantly changed, the lands they once knew as the Elemental Nations now existing only in faded memories and ancient texts. The world had transformed, reshaped by wars, revolutions, and the rise and fall of empires. The once-familiar landscapes were now unfamiliar to their eyes, and yet, in their endless journey, they remained steadfast observers of humanity's relentless march through time.
One day, they found themselves standing atop a hill overlooking the capital of the Holy Empire, a city that had once shone brightly as a beacon of hope and prosperity. The capital was grand, its towering spires piercing the sky, and its sprawling palaces reflecting the opulence of an empire that had once been the envy of the world. But as Naruto and Sasuke gazed upon it, the city's former glory seemed a distant memory. The empire, once celebrated for its justice and order, had succumbed to a fortress of corruption and despair. The once-vibrant streets were now cold and lifeless, patrolled by soldiers whose loyalty had been twisted into instruments of oppression.
The air was thick with the palpable tension of a nation teetering on the brink of collapse. The people, who had once rejoiced in the empire's prosperity, now lived in constant fear. Whispers of rebellion echoed through the alleys, and the eyes of the oppressed darted nervously as they passed, fearing the ever-present gaze of the empire's enforcers. Naruto and Sasuke, hidden in the shadows, observed the city in its state of decay, their hearts heavy with the weight of what they saw.
Naruto and Sasuke had borne witness to many revolutions in their time, but this one was different. The rebels of Night Raid fought with a ferocity that spoke of their deep convictions and unwavering resolve. It wasn't just a battle for power; it was a fight for survival, for the preservation of ideals and the hope of a better future. As they watched, Naruto and Sasuke began to feel a deep connection to the cause of Night Raid, understanding that their struggle was about more than just victory; it was about protecting a future worth living for.
Their involvement was not merely as silent observers. They chose to actively participate in the lives of those who fought against the empire. Naruto and Sasuke would often be seen helping the rebels in subtle ways—sabotaging enemy supplies, providing crucial intelligence, and offering their support during critical moments. They forged bonds with Night Raid's members, developing a deep respect and camaraderie with them.
During quieter moments between the chaos of battle, Naruto and Sasuke developed connections with key members of Night Raid. They spent time with Akame, whose quiet strength and unwavering resolve reminded Naruto of his own journey. They shared stories and strategies, learning from each other's experiences and philosophies.
Akame, with her fierce dedication and compassion, had spoken words that resonated deeply with Naruto and Sasuke. "In a world where power is everything, those who have strength are the ones who must take responsibility for the weak. We fight not because we hate what is in front of us, but because we love what is behind us," she had said, her voice filled with a rare sincerity.
Naruto and Sasuke found themselves moved by Akame's sentiment. For Naruto, her words echoed the principles he had fought for throughout his life, reinforcing his belief in using strength to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. Sasuke saw in Akame's words a reflection of his own struggles, understanding that true strength was not merely about power but about the responsibility that came with it.
Najenda, the leader of the rebellion, was another figure who left a lasting impression on them. Her leadership went beyond tactical prowess; it was defined by her understanding of the cost of their mission. "To change the world, you have to be willing to endure the pain that comes with it. Sacrifices are inevitable, but they are the price we pay for the hope of a better tomorrow," Najenda had said, her voice firm but tinged with sorrow.
Naruto felt Najenda's words as a sharp reminder of his own burdens, the sacrifices he had made for the sake of hope and progress. Sasuke, too, found resonance in her message, acknowledging the heavy price of change and the personal costs that came with it.
Their interactions with the members of Night Raid, including Leone and Nejenda, further deepened their connections. Leone's carefree demeanor and fierce loyalty reminded Naruto of the importance of camaraderie, while Nejenda's strategic mind and leadership qualities impressed Sasuke. Through these connections, Naruto and Sasuke found themselves not only aiding the rebels but becoming an integral part of their world.
The encounter with Esdeath, the Empire's most feared general, was a turning point in their journey. Esdeath was a warrior of unparalleled strength, whose final moments left an indelible mark on them. Her declaration, "I will not allow my death to be a mere footnote in the history of this world. If I must fall, I will do so as a warrior who fought for what she believed in, until the very end," resonated with Naruto and Sasuke on a profound level.
Naruto saw in Esdeath a reflection of his own battles against fate and darkness, while Sasuke recognized in her unyielding spirit a kinship with figures from his past, like Haku. Esdeath's tragic heroism underscored the complexities of strength and resolve, reminding them of the shared struggles that defined their journey.
As the empire fell, and Night Raid achieved their goal, Naruto and Sasuke were left with a blend of admiration and sorrow. They had forged bonds with the rebels, shared in their triumphs and losses, and witnessed the sacrifices that had paved the way for change. The echoes of their experiences would stay with them, shaping their understanding of strength, sacrifice, and the nuanced nature of heroism.
Their journey through this era left them both scarred and enlightened. The memories of Haku, Night Raid, and Esdeath were etched deeply into their souls, shaping their perspectives as they continued their eternal journey. The lessons they had learned from their time with the rebels would guide them through the ever-changing world, reminding them of the enduring power of hope, sacrifice, and the connections forged in the crucible of struggle.
*A few centuries later*
The Holy Empire, once a colossal force of tyranny, had collapsed under the weight of its own corruption. In the wake of its fall, the world was reborn, ushering in a new era marked by innovation and hope. This era was shaped by the Hunters, extraordinary individuals whose unparalleled abilities and indomitable spirits transformed the world. Cities flourished into breathtaking marvels of architecture and progress, and a renewed sense of optimism permeated the air, rekindling the dreams of countless people.
Naruto and Sasuke, eternal wanderers through time, observed this new age from the shadows. The world they once knew, with its familiar landscapes and ancient histories, had now evolved into something both wondrous and fragile. They witnessed the rise of gleaming cities from the ruins of the past, their streets bustling with life and brimming with the energy of a people eager to shape their destinies. The Hunters, driven by a thirst for adventure and a sense of duty, had become the new pillars of society, guiding the world toward a brighter future.
Among these Hunters was a young boy named Gon Freecss. His unshakeable optimism, boundless energy, and relentless pursuit of his dreams reminded Naruto of his own youth. Gon's belief in the goodness of people and his courage to face the impossible resonated deeply with Naruto. He recalled a particular moment when Gon, despite facing an overwhelming challenge, declared with unwavering resolve, "The only way to find out what I'm capable of is to never give up, no matter how tough things get. If you believe in something, you've got to fight for it."
These words struck a chord within Naruto, echoing his own journey of perseverance and hope. Watching Gon fight against the odds, Naruto saw a reflection of his younger self—the boy who had once been dismissed as a failure but had risen to become a symbol of determination. Gon's courage rekindled memories of the battles Naruto had fought, the friends he had made, and the values he had sworn to protect.
As Naruto watched Gon from the shadows, he found himself increasingly drawn into Gon's world. He observed not only Gon's battles but also the way he interacted with his friends and allies. Naruto was impressed by Gon's unwavering belief in the goodness of people and his genuine desire to help those in need. He saw in Gon the same kind of hope and compassion that had driven him throughout his life.
Meanwhile, Sasuke found a different kind of kinship in Killua Zoldyck. Killua's quiet strength, struggle with the dark legacy of his family, and fierce loyalty to his friends mirrored Sasuke's own path. Killua was a boy torn between the expectations of his lineage and the desire to forge his own destiny, much like Sasuke had once been.
In moments of reflection, Killua had shared his philosophy with his closest friends, saying, "Strength isn't just about power; it's about standing by your friends and fighting for what's right, even when it's hard." These words resonated with Sasuke on a profound level. They reminded him of the true essence of strength—not the kind that came from hatred or vengeance, but the kind that grew from the bonds of friendship and the courage to protect those you care about.
Sasuke also actively engaged with Killua's world, observing his struggles and triumphs from a closer perspective. He saw Killua's growth and the deep bonds he formed with his friends, which mirrored Sasuke's own journey toward understanding and redemption. Killua's loyalty and courage were a reminder of the bonds Sasuke had once sought to sever but later realized were irreplaceable.
But as the cycle of hope and despair continued, the world that had flourished under the guidance of the Hunters began to unravel. A catastrophic world war erupted, shattering the unity that had once defined the Hunters. The cities that Naruto and Sasuke had admired, with their towering structures and vibrant streets, were reduced to rubble. The camaraderie that had blossomed in this new era was torn apart by betrayal and conflict, leaving the world once again in ruins.
Naruto and Sasuke, standing amidst the devastation, were haunted by the loss of those they had come to admire. Gon's unyielding spirit, which had once burned so brightly, was extinguished in the throes of war. His final words, spoken with a quiet resolve as he faced the end, lingered in Naruto's mind: "No matter how much the world changes, the spirit of a true hunter is to protect those you care about. Even if I'm gone, remember that the fight for what's right is never over."
These words cut deeply into Naruto's heart. Gon's belief in the enduring power of hope and the importance of protecting others was a reflection of Naruto's own life's mission. Yet, the loss of Gon was a stark reminder of the fragility of life, even for those who burned as brightly as he had. Naruto felt the weight of that loss, a grief that was all too familiar in his long existence.
For Sasuke, the loss of Killua was just as profound. In his final moments, Killua had expressed his thoughts with a quiet resignation: "Even in the darkest times, the bonds we formed and the courage we showed are what define us. My only regret is that I won't be there to see the world change for the better."
Sasuke carried these words with him, feeling the heavy burden of Killua's unfulfilled hopes. The loss of Killua was not just the death of a friend but the extinguishing of a light that had shone so brightly in the darkness. Sasuke was reminded once again of the fleeting nature of life and the pain that came with losing those who had become dear to him.
As they walked away from the ruins of yet another civilization, Naruto and Sasuke were left to grapple with the cycle of hope and despair that seemed to define their existence. They had seen countless lives rise and fall, had borne witness to the beauty and tragedy of humanity's endless struggle. The memories of Gon and Killua, like so many others before them, were etched deeply into their souls—a testament to the impermanence of life and the enduring power of hope.
In the end, the experiences of this era became yet another chapter in the long history of their journey. Naruto and Sasuke, scarred by loss but enlightened by the lessons they had learned, continued on their path. The echoes of Gon's optimism and Killua's quiet strength would remain with them, guiding them as they moved forward into the unknown, carrying with them the hope that, despite the endless cycles of destruction, there would always be those who would rise to fight for what was right.
*100 years later*
As the centuries passed, the weight of immortality bore down on Naruto and Sasuke with an ever-increasing heaviness. They had witnessed the world evolve, civilizations rise and crumble, and countless lives blaze brightly before fading into the annals of history. Each loss, each tragedy, left an indelible scar on their souls, deepening their understanding of the world's cyclical nature—the perpetual dance of hope and despair. These cycles, though familiar, never ceased to leave them more burdened, more wearied by the relentless march of time.
In the shattered remnants of what was once the Republic of San Magnolia, Naruto and Sasuke found themselves once again entwined in the lives of those fighting against insurmountable odds. The Republic, once a symbol of technological advancement and military might, had been reduced to ruins by the unrelenting onslaught of the Legion—autonomous machines bent on the annihilation of humanity. Amidst this desolation, Naruto and Sasuke became silent guardians, their presence felt but unseen as they fought alongside the 86th Strike Package, known simply as the "86."
The 86 were a group of soldiers forced into the most dangerous battles, denied even the basic acknowledgment of their humanity by the Republic they served. Their existence was a testament to resilience and valor, a flicker of hope in a world shrouded in despair. Among them, one figure stood out—Vladilena "Lena" Milizé, a commander who defied the prejudices of her society to fight for justice and equality. Her fierce dedication to her comrades and her unwavering sense of duty made her a beacon of light in the darkness, and in her, Naruto and Sasuke saw reflections of their past allies—those who had fought bravely against overwhelming odds.
Naruto's interactions with Lena went beyond mere observation. He found himself deeply moved by her determination and empathy. During covert moments, Naruto took subtle actions to aid her—whether it was through unnoticed guidance that helped her make crucial tactical decisions or lending a hand in smaller ways, always from the shadows. He admired Lena's ability to see beyond the prejudice and fight for the downtrodden, a struggle that mirrored his own battles against discrimination and hatred. He saw in her the same fire that had driven him to protect those who were shunned and to fight for a world where no one was left behind.
Sasuke, on the other hand, developed a silent bond with the 86, especially with the soldiers who shared his experiences of inner conflict and redemption. He found a particular kinship with the quiet strength of Lena's comrades, who bore their burdens with a resolve that reminded him of his own journey. Sasuke observed their camaraderie and the personal growth of each soldier, especially of Shinei Nouzen, drawing parallels to his own path through pain and the pursuit of meaning in a world often devoid of it. He found himself moved by their loyalty and bravery, mirroring his own struggle to find a purpose in a seemingly indifferent world.
Lena's final moments were etched deeply into their hearts. As the 86 faced the Legion in what would be their last stand, Lena's voice rang out, filled with both sorrow and resolve. "No matter how dark the night, remember that there is always a dawn that follows. Even if we cannot see it, our sacrifices will light the way for those who come after us. Hold onto your dreams, and fight until your last breath, for it is in the pursuit of hope that we find our true selves."
Her words resonated profoundly with Naruto and Sasuke. Lena's declaration of hope and perseverance was a powerful reminder of everything they had fought for across countless lifetimes. For Naruto, Lena's resolve was a mirror of his own relentless pursuit of a better world despite the odds. For Sasuke, it was a reflection of his struggles to protect what was precious to him and to find redemption in a world rife with pain and suffering.
As Lena and the 86th fell, Naruto and Sasuke stood in the shadows, their emotions raw and exposed. The grief they felt was profound, cutting deeper than they had anticipated. The loss of Lena and her comrades was not just another chapter in their long existence; it was a wound that reopened all the others, a reminder of the countless lives they had seen extinguished over the centuries. For the first time in what felt like ages, they found themselves overwhelmed by a sorrow that seemed too immense to bear.
The final scene of Lena's death was seared into their memories. As the Legion closed in and the 86 made their last stand, Naruto and Sasuke watched in silence. There was nothing they could do to change the outcome, nothing they could say to ease the pain. The world they had come to care for, a world they had fought to protect, was being consumed by the very chaos they had hoped to quell. And as Lena's life flickered out, the weight of their immortality pressed down on them harder than ever before.
In the aftermath of the battle, Naruto and Sasuke retreated from the world, their hearts heavy with the burden of their eternal existence. The loss of Lena and the 86 left a void that no amount of time could fill. It was a familiar pain, one they had experienced countless times before, yet it felt sharper and more unbearable. They withdrew to the shadows, their once vibrant hope dimmed by the overwhelming weight of their sorrow.
The pain of losing Lena and her comrades was a cruel reminder of the cyclical nature of their existence—of how even the most enduring spirits could be extinguished by the relentless tide of time and conflict. For Naruto and Sasuke, Lena's final words became a haunting echo, reverberating in the corridors of their immortal lives. They were words that spoke of hope and perseverance but also carried the weight of sacrifice and loss—themes that had defined Naruto and Sasuke's journey through the ages.
As they continued to watch over the world from their shadowed refuge, the memory of Lena and the 86 remained with them—a poignant reminder of the fragility of hope and the enduring pain of immortality. The world continued to turn, centuries passed, and new eras dawned, but for Naruto and Sasuke, the loss of Lena marked a turning point that would forever shape their journey. They were immortal, but the memories of those they had lost weighed heavily upon them, a constant reminder of the price they paid for their endless existence. And so, they continued onward, their hearts burdened but their resolve unbroken, carrying with them the lessons and memories of those who had fought, and fallen, in the pursuit of a better world.
*1 Millennium Later*
A millennium had passed since Naruto and Sasuke had last stirred from their deep hibernation. Deep beneath the earth's surface, in a sprawling subterranean facility constructed ages prior, the two immortal warriors lay in a state of suspended animation. The facility, an extraordinary blend of ancient technology and arcane craftsmanship, had been their refuge from the endless cycles of grief, loss, and renewal that had defined their existence. After the profound loss of Lena and the 86th, they had sought solitude in this hidden sanctuary, seeking respite from the world above.
The facility itself was a labyrinth of darkened corridors and echoing chambers, its walls lined with the soft, dim glow of dormant magical runes that cast an ethereal light across the cold stone floors. Time seemed to stand still within these subterranean depths, as if the very concept of the passing years held no meaning here. For centuries, Naruto and Sasuke had remained within this underground haven, their bodies in hibernation while their minds occasionally stirred—sometimes to reflect on the past, other times to train in silence, honing their skills in preparation for whatever might await them upon their next awakening.
Every century or so, driven by a restlessness they could never fully suppress, Naruto and Sasuke would awaken briefly. These periods of wakefulness were moments of introspection and preparation. They would emerge from their hibernation pods, the sterile air of the facility greeting them like an old friend. In these times, they would spar, testing their abilities against one another, or meditate on the lessons learned from the countless battles they had fought and the countless lives they had witnessed rise and fall. Yet, after these brief periods of activity, the weight of their immortality would settle upon them once more, and they would retreat back into hibernation, the world above continuing to evolve without them.
But after a millennium of such solitude, a mutual sense of restlessness began to gnaw at them both. The stillness that had once been a balm to their weary souls now felt like a cage, a prison of monotony that they could no longer endure. Their long hibernation had dulled their sense of purpose, and now, a curious anticipation began to stir within them—a longing to see what the world had become, to find out if the earth had reshaped itself once more, and to discover if they still had a role to play in its future.
As if sensing their restlessness, the ancient mechanisms of the facility whirred back to life. The sound echoed through the vast chambers, a mechanical symphony that heralded their return to consciousness. The hibernation pods opened with a soft hiss, releasing the two warriors from their long slumber. The air inside the facility was cold and sterile, a stark contrast to the warmth and vitality that awaited them on the surface.
Naruto and Sasuke stepped out of their pods, their movements slow at first as they reacquainted themselves with their bodies. The sterile chill of the underground refuge, once a comfort, now felt constraining, urging them to leave. With a sense of renewed resolve, they made their way through the familiar corridors, their footsteps echoing in the silence as they ascended toward the surface.
When they finally emerged into the open air, they were greeted by a world transformed. The landscape that stretched out before them was unrecognizable from the war-torn remnants they had left behind a millennium ago. Gone were the ruins of empires and the scars of old battles. In their place was a land of vibrant beauty and magic—a realm that seemed to pulse with life and energy. This was the magical realm of Fiore.
Fiore was a world unlike any they had seen before, a place where magic was not just a tool or weapon but the very fabric of reality itself. The air was thick with the presence of mystical energies, and the land was dotted with cities and towns that thrived with a unique blend of enchanting architecture and magical wonders. Guilds of wizards and sorcerers wielded incredible powers, their influence shaping the course of nations and the lives of countless individuals. It was a world where magic flowed freely, where the impossible became possible, and where the old rules of survival and struggle seemed to have been rewritten.
As they took in the sight of this new world, Naruto and Sasuke felt a strange blend of emotions—nostalgia for the past and anticipation for the future. They had seen countless civilizations rise and fall, had witnessed the cyclical nature of history with their own eyes, and yet this new realm seemed to offer something different. There was a vibrancy here, a sense of possibility that stirred something within them both.
Naruto, ever the optimist despite the weariness and pain of his long life, felt a flicker of hope ignite within his heart. This world, with its magic and its wonders, seemed to promise new beginnings—new allies, new challenges, and perhaps even a chance to make a difference once more. "Maybe this world will be different," he mused, his voice tinged with a mixture of hope and determination. "Maybe there's a chance to find new allies, new challenges, and perhaps even a place where we can make a difference."
Sasuke, however, was more cautious. His mind, honed by centuries of battle and contemplation, sought to understand the true nature of this new world. He knew that beneath the surface of any society, no matter how magical or wondrous, there lay the same struggles, the same conflicts that had plagued humanity for millennia. "It's a new stage, but the essence of human struggle remains the same," he remarked, his tone thoughtful. "We'll have to see if this world can break the cycle of despair we've seen so often. Or if we'll just be witnesses to another chapter in the same old story."
Together, they stepped into the light of this new dawn, their hearts heavy yet hopeful. The world of Fiore represented both a fresh start and a continuation of the endless journey they had been on for so long. The past had left its scars, deep and painful, but perhaps in this world of magic and wonder, they might find new purpose—or at the very least, new experiences that could bring some meaning to their eternal existence.
As they ventured into the vibrant landscapes of Fiore, they were ready to face whatever awaited them—whether it be new adventures, the discovery of allies and foes, or the revelation of new cycles of hope and despair. The world had changed, but Naruto and Sasuke remained, eternal witnesses to the ever-turning wheel of fate. And so, with the weight of their long lives bearing down upon them, they embarked on this new chapter, uncertain of what the future held but determined to meet it head-on, just as they always had.
