When lives matter…
When people really need to be saved…
The Heroes are late.
I found myself tied and gagged in a warehouse, forced against the wall with a couple of other people in a similar situation as mine. On a pillar a little bit far away from where we were tied, the constant ticking of a bomb instilled fear into all of our hearts…
This was real life, it wasn't a game, it wasn't a movie and I really felt like I was going to die.
Everyone had a question running through their heads, the villain who had done this had long since escaped the scene, using us as a diversion to ensure his escape… but the question remained.
'Where are the heroes?'
Nobody expected a hero like Omni-man or Immortal to come here and aid them, this was not a situation worth their time – it was a simple bomb, any hero could defuse something like this.
'Hell even I could do it,' I thought but the unmistakable feeling of sluggishness echoed through my entire being, there was little I could do as well, we were all bounded tightly with no hope of escape.
The last few days of my life had been hell, after we were kidnapped, we were experimented on. Some people lost arms, eyes, even legs to this psychopath and now after a failure in his experiment… he decided to dispose of all of us.
Children… Women… Men… None of them had been stared, he had used them all – I personally didn't lose anything although I was injected time and time again with a blue syringe, it was hell all over again just thinking about it.
The bomb ticked once again, reminding us all of the terror that would ensue once the timer reached one… I prayed silently for a hero to be fortunate enough to walk through those doors and it seemed like my prayers were answered.
"The Bomb's here!" Rex Splode shouted with urgency, I knew him – he was from Teen team…
Thank God they were here… We're saved.
He scurried inside, I got a little bit of time to admire his supersuit – a combination of dark orange and yellow with several designs, His suit stretched over his head efficiently covering his hair and he wore square googles.
I believed he would be the one that would save us, the one to defuse the bomb and the one to save all of us but Rex Splode kept looking at the bomb, his hands growing a little bit shaky.
The bomb kept ticking and the fear in our hearts increased, Rex soon sighed.
"Robot, The Bomb!"
A pink beam tore through the air, slamming into the bomb and warping it until a screwdriver stood in it's place, all the destructive elements in the weapon had vanished.
"Defusing a bomb is easy, you know," Atom Eve said as she floated into the room – my eyes met her's for a moment before she looked away.
"Then you should have done it," Rex Splode said, "Where are the others?"
"They went for the guy that captured these innocent people," Atom Eve said, her brown hair glistening in the wind, "I hope they find them though, this is… unforgivable,"
She looked at the victims, some missing very vital parts and then her eyes fell on me again, carrying a hint of curiosity in them… those blue eyes – where have I seen them before?
Her facial expression changed as the communicator on her ear rung, she heard some words and nodded with seriousness. She waved her hand over us and the pink energy worked on our bindings, making them vanish.
"Come on Rex, let's go, they need us," Atom Eve said and they soon left.
I stretched my arms speechlessly, the bomb was gone, the heroes which had saved us had left and I wasn't able to say or do anything about it – there was only one thing I could think about now.
"She's hot,"
That Atom Eve… she really is hot, but it seemed like both of them are an item.
'I can only think after all,' I thought while walking out of the abandoned warehouse, the others were visibly shaken and I was one of the few people that he hadn't experimented heavily on, 'I just hope nothing strange will happen to me now,'
Being injected by several vials of some blue fluid… I was the only one experimented like that. Suddenly the ground below my feet cracked, I looked down to find myself shooting into the air.
I broke the sound barrier in an instant, shooting toward the clouds at a speed far faster than any bullet.
"What the fuck!" I screamed out, trying to understand what was going on. I kept on flipping and turning in the air, my deep black hair all over the place.
My blue eyes widened as I had finally stopped, and I took the moment to observe my surroundings… I was in the sky, amidst the clouds and it felt peaceful, especially with the wind running against my hair.
"Today has been anything but a normal day," I said while looking at my arms, I was still hovering in the air, "Are these Superpowers?"
It was obvious but I didn't want to believe it, if these weren't Superpowers then why would I be able to fly next to the clouds?
"Can I be a hero?" I muttered under my breath, the world was a dangerous place and I was sick and tired of feeling weak – maybe I needed this… there were lots of other heroes in this world and it didn't get better, I didn't think I could get in there and make a difference, a lot of people became heroes for that reason to end up not making a difference… the world was cruel.
'I think I'll be one,' I finalized in my thoughts as I heard the distant sound of engines, 'I won't be able to make a difference but I'll be able to live a life I want to live,'
And get the girls… Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this happening.
I focused on what I could hear, the engines of a plane and I decided to move, I willed my body to move in a certain direction and it obeyed, soon I found myself soaring through the air, my face in the clouds… living the dream.
