Chapter 17

The Rise of Glee Club, The Fall of Sue Sylvester

Rachel and Kurt walked into the choir room and found everyone seated. Rachel said, "Everyone, I'm still basking in the glow of our first new trophy."

Claire said, "It's an invitationals trophy, but it's still better than nothing."

Spencer smirked.

Kurt said, "Sectionals are five weeks away, but I guarantee Vocal Adrenaline and the Warblers are doing everything in their power to regain their former glory. We have a secret weapon."

Mercedes walked in. Claire said, "MJ!"

Artie called, "Diva!"

Mercedes said, "Yes, I'm here to mentor you. Who wants me to mentor you?"

Mason and Madison said, "Me!"

Jane said, "Me!"

In the teacher's lounge, Rachel got herself some coffee. Anne Marie walked in exasperated.

"Anne Marie, what happened? You look exhausted."

"Well, there was an incident outside on my way here. There was a little girl who got stuck down a log. We managed to get her out, but we couldn't save her shoes."

"Wow. Well, thank you for that image."

Meanwhile, Brittany and Santana were discussing Santana's grandmother coming to their wedding.

Santana said, "Why do you think it's okay to have the one person would would rather see me dead than be with another woman?"

"You came out to your abuela three years ago."

"Nothing has changed. It's not just gay people she has a problem with. It took her 50 years to talk to a colored person, and it was her mailman. She accused him of stealing her Christmas cards."

"Did he?"

"No."

In the auditorium, Santana was singing "What's it all about, Alfie?"

In an episode of Sabrina, Salem said, "This song always makes me cry."

As soon as Brittany held Santana's hand, Alma stood up.

Santana said, "Hi, Abuela."

"Hi,"

"You look well."

"So, you two know each other?"

Brittany said, "Santana is my fiancee."

Santana said, "I love Britt."

"I love you, Santana, but this…"

Brittany said, "Please, just come to the wedding."

"No."

"Fine. I'm glad you're not coming."

"You let her talk to me like this?"

Santana said, "This is what real love looks like. Britt is my family."

Alma left and the others showed up. They say that they'll come to the wedding.

Meanwhile, Beiste returned full transformed into a man. Shannon was now Sheldon. He seemed to be comfortable with this change. Will and Sam were still getting used to it, but Beiste had made his choice.

Sue said, "Beiste! Welcome back. You know, for a minute there, I almost mistook you for James Garner."

Sam said, "It is so good to have you back, Coach."

Rachel's dads were selling the house, and Rachel was having a hard time to come to terms with it, but that was just a natural response. So the others decided to throw a farewell party. Mercedes and Roderick were singing Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass."

Rachel and Ian walked into her room.

Ian said, "Wow. Rachel Berry's childhood home."

"Yeah. You know, I'm way too sentimental. It's gonna be hard to part with all this."

"Well, then don't. I mean, take it all with you. You don't just let go of the memories."

"We had a lot of great ones. A lot of great times together. Did you ever regret it?"

"Hell no. My only regret was that I never got to dance with you."

"Well, there's still time."

In the basement, everyone was dressing up, dancing and having a great time.

Outside, Anne Marie said, "I thought we sounded pretty good."

Claire said, "We were incredible. We haven't sounded that great since our first duet together. What was it again?"

"I don't know. I'm kind of blanking. I'm kidding. It was Constant Craving. The entire time we were singing, I just wanted to put down that guitar and confess my undying sister love for you."

"Why didn't you?"

"Well, for one, you kind of beat me to it. Remember that guy you used to like?"

"Aaron?"

"Aaron Holden, that's it. What the hell happened to him?"

"I have no idea."

In the gym locker, Beiste got a surprise visitor. "As I live and breathe."

"Unique!" He hugged her.

"I had to hear about your trans gossip from Will Schuster."

I just didn't know what to say to people. I did this because I needed to follow what I feel inside. And I finally feel like myself, normal."

"You're special, and not because of some surgery, but because you're brave enough to go for what you want."

"I just want to be one of the guys, does that make sense? People either fawn over me or they hate me because they don't understand me."

"Did it hurt?"

"Are you kidding? Like a sack of hammers on my chest."

"Did you have any regrets?"

"Not for a second. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me."

"You're not alone."

The next day, in Blaine and Dave's apartment, Blaine walked.

Dave said, "Okay, what? You're hardly said two words."

"Sorry. Kurt and I were together that night at Rachel's party."

"Why would I be upset about that? You guys are always doing duets together."

Blaine looked somber.

"Oh, man. I knew it. You still love him. You never stopped."

"I'm sorry, Dave. I didn't mean to…"

"It's okay. I know. Hey, no hard feelings. Craig slipped his number into my pocket. It's okay. Go. Just don't sing it. Say it."

They hug and Blaine left.

In the auditorium, Unique and other transgenders were singing "Lord Knows Where I've Been." Quite a surprise to Beiste. Making him feel like he and Unique weren't the only ones. Rachel and Unique hugged. Will and Beiste hugged.

The next day, Will walked in the choir room with Rachel and Kurt. "I am so proud of what you guys did in here. You too, Claire. You've come such a long way."

Rachel said, "Well, coming up with these weekly assignments is harder than we thought."

Claire said, "That's why I always went off book with Treble Base."

Will said, "Well, this is where I belong. But you guys have to come up with all the major decisions."
