Chris was sweating as they walked down the long hallways of the palace. He knew one day he'd enter a castle, this is just not the way he had imagined it.
He was being led by the guard that had shown up at the office and the sherif that he was mildly intimidated by. His friends weren't with him, he wasn't quite sure why.
He thought maybe cause he was more important and they knew that? Which he thought was unlikely considering the people he was talking about.
That's also not even considering the fact that they brought him to the palace. He really wasn't sure what the king had to do with him loosing an "annoying" classmate in the blood-bloom forest, but he was rather scared to find out.
They eventually stopped at a pair of large, enchanting double doors. The guard pushed them open slowly. Two other guards, who were standing on the inside of the room helped him open them all the way.
Chris stepped inside. It was a large open room almost like an expanded hallway. Along a large red carpet the king was sitting on his throne at the end of the room. There was a smaller throne next to him where the queen used to sit before she passed.
Behind the kings chair there were a few smaller doors that led to other hallways, mainly for staff. There were also a few people that all fell silent when the door was opened.
Chris was mainly looking towards his feet as he walked in fear of the kings gaze, he could feel was on him.
"Your highness." The guard bowed and took a step to the side so that the king could see the sherif and Chris more clearly.
The king didn't say anything as he glared in there direction. Daniel bowed as Chris followed suit.
"I'm in need of an explanation." The king growled. The sherif didn't flinch from the harsh tone he simply nodded and started to speak.
"From my understanding, Adrien was attacked by something in the forest, past the signs." Daniel calmly spoke with soft undertones of concern.
The king shifted in his chair. He was tall, had light grey hair from old age and light blue-ish grey eyes. He was wearing a fancy dark suit with a long draping purple cape, it had white fuzz at the bottom of the train.
"And where is he now!?" The king demanded.
"We do not know sir." Daniel stated with a small gulp.
The king looked towards Chris.
"And you. What business do you have with Adrien? And why are you still here if he was attacked."
Chris was a lot more nervous as he looked into the kings eyes. "S-sir, we went on a walk with him, we were attacked by some freaky creature... I tried to kill the thing but he still attacked him anyways... we ran out of the woods to...get help..." Chris shifted and glanced down at the floor.
The king glared back at the sherif. "Have you sent anyone to find him?"
"No, not at the moment... I feel your guards are more suitable to go in the forest than my officers." He said plainly.
The king glanced to the side, he looked like he was getting annoyed.
"May I ask why you care about some random kid anyways?" Chris asked rather boldly. "I mean.. he's probably dead anyways-" He cut himself off when the king slammed his hands on the thrones arm rests, making a loud clank noise, Probably because of the echo of the room, the rings on his fingers and the strength in which he'd hit the chair.
"That 'Random Kid who you clearly don't care to assume that he's dead' Is. My. Son!" He shouted angrily, again pounding his fist on his chair and standing up.
The moment Chris heard the word 'son' his face went pale. Not only had he been bullying the king's son, he had also ditched the prince in the woods, basically leaving him for dead!
The whole town knew there was a prince. Though The king was always so secretive of his son no one knew who he was or what he looked like. People speculated but none knew for sure.
"Oh-" Chris said with a nervous smile.
"D-did I mention that I tried to...Uhm..help Adrien by throwing my pocket knife at the monster?-" Chris squeakily shut himself up.
"Shut. Up." The king gave Chris a death glare.
"Gabriel...Your highness, if I may?" Daniel started.
The king turned towards Daniel, gesturing for him to keep speaking.
"If you would like I can send out your guards to look for him..." Daniel paused and looked at Chris.
"I'll take him with us, because he knows where they last saw the prince." Daniel offered.
Gabriel nodded, calming down slightly, he took his seat again. Then a voice emerged from behind his chair.
"I can lead the sherif to the head guard if you would like your highness? I'm just so very worried for Adrien! I want him to be saved as quickly as possible." It was a girl. She had long dark brown hair, prominently bright green eyes and light tan skin. She was wearing a soft orange flowing dress, which had small black details on the rim of the skirt along with a black belt-like ribbon around her waist. She took a few steps forward as she was speaking.
"Yes, go ahead Miss Lila." Gabriel said, flicking his wrist towards Daniel and Chris.
The girl walked past them.
"Follow me."
They both turned and followed her out the large doors as she curtsied to the guards at the doors entrance.
She led them down a few extra long hallways until they got to a more Stoney room. It had a few turns along with some torches hanging on the walls. A guard walked by and Lila stopped him in his tracks.
"Have you seen the commander?" She asked him.
"He's with some other soldiers in that room over there." He pointed towards an open framed door.
She nodded and nudged them along.
"Then get someone else to help. It's not part of my job to find a cat." When they walked inside the commander was talking to another solider. The soldier looked nervous as he spoke.
"B-but sir please!"
"I will not be looking for a creature who makes my allergies act up." He stated. The commander noticed Lila with the others and walked over, ignoring the solider, who frantically ran out of the room to pester another guard about the animal.
Daniel started to tell the commander about the task.
Lila turned around to leave but stopped by Chris's ear.
"You really need to get better at your acting, I could tell you were lying." She smirked and walked out of the room.
Chris watched her leave. His cheeks turning a small shade of pink.
"This is a bad idea." Ein stated as he glanced down and around a few corners.
"Just stop talking and we won't get caught!" Marinette whispered. It almost sounded like a ladybug was talking, it was so quiet.
Adrien followed the two werewolves as they walked him down a few long stoney walkways. They eventually parted into a small open grassy area with some pine trees acting as walls, blocking the entrance to a more open field.
In the field a few small werewolves could be seen playing around with each other, along with a couple adults near some of the pine trees.
Adrien took a step into the open area and was instantly pulled backwards by Ein.
He gave him a harsh glare as he pressed Adrien onto the wall next to Marinette. Adrien gasped in shock when he hit the wall, Marinette quickly placed a gentle hand over his mouth.
"Shhh." Her soft voice whispered.
Adrien's stomach did a small cartwheel of sorts, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink. He had never really been in this close of contact with a girl... one around his age at least.
Marinette seemed to notice the short distance as well, because her face turned a brighter shade of red.
Marinette gently (and quickly) placed her hand on his arm and dragged him slowly out into the open. She kept him held in between herself and Ein so that if other werewolves noticed them they wouldn't be able to see Adrien.
"Where are we going?" Adrien whispered as they entered into another stony hallway.
"I want to show you something." She whispered back. Ein sighed.
After a few minutes of walking and hiding behind corners from passing werewolves, they finally made it to the caves exit.
From what Ein could tell, it was going to be a bit more challenging to get the boy where they needed to go, seeing that there were multiple werewolves in there path.
Ein gulped and looked around the field.
"Stay here." He demanded as he ran off to somewhere past the field, the other two watching as he disappeared behind a couple trees.
"So." Marinette started as she turned towards him. "Is it true that humans can look at the sun without being affected?"
Adrien looked at her in confusion. "Well i wouldn't say without being affected..."
She was intently listening to what he had to say.
"W-we, um, it hurts our eyes to look at it." He answered.
She made a small 'oh' noise. She glanced at the ground but quickly looked back up to meet his eyes.
"Well, is it true that you guys don't eat meat?" She asked.
"Some of us."
"What do you mean some?"
"Some people are vegans or vegetarians and don't want and/or like to eat meat... not all of us though."
She rubbed her hand, her face turning a slight shade of pink as she asked the next question.
"Do you humans..swim without...Uhm- wearing anything?" She asked timidly.
Adrien blinked. "No, we wear swim suits." He answered quickly.
"Oh thank goodness, I was really worried that one was true."
"Well, actually..." he thought about it.
"There are probably some people who don't wear anything but it's not common, at all... I mean some people don't even know how to swim." He chuckled slightly at the last thing.
She laughed.
"Wow, who wouldn't know how to swim! That's crazy, pups probably- or whatever your equivalent is, I assume." She stated.
Adrien blushed and rubbed the back of his neck looking away slightly.
"Oh- yeah." He laughed awkwardly.
It's not like Adrien didn't want to learn to swim, he just never got the chance. Being the prince meant strict father and strict father meant living in the castle, and living in a castle meant not leaving the house much... so on and so forth. Not knowing how to swim was just something he really didn't bring up that often cause he felt embarrassed about it.
Marientte looked up at him slightly confused.
"Uhm... wait do all werewolves know how to swim?" He asked, still with his hand on his neck.
"Yeah... well except most pups, we all learn when we're young in case of any accidents. But a lot of us don't like to swim cause it's kind of hard to do with our tails." She answered.
"Right..." he looked away awkwardly, then quickly changed the conversation.
"Is it true that Uhm- werwolves can..." he paused and thought for a second. "Smell really well or is it just hearing?"
"Oh, yes we can see, smell and hear very well." She nodded.
Adrien's second question was interrupted by a few pieces of cloth being shoved in his face. They both turned there heads to see Ein panting.
"Put these on." He demanded.
Adrien grabbed the fabric. There was a baggy hat and some kind of long cloak. Before he had time to answer he was dragged over behind another corner by Ein.
He aggressively put the cloak onto Adrien's back, making sure that it draped down his legs so that people wouldn't notice the lack of a tail.
He placed his hand on top of his head and ruffled his hair, placing the hat on top of head.
Ein placed his hand on Adrien's chin, pulling it down to look at his teeth. He then let go after he made a weird expression.
"You know what, don't open your mouth." He stated then patted his back, pushing him back next to the entrance.
"Wait why?" Adrien asked getting nudged back into the hallway.
"Because you don't have fangs." He stated turning to Marinette. "Now let's hurry this up."
She nodded and gestured for Adrien to continue following her.
They made there way through into the open field. Multiple werwolves waved at them, Marinette waved back as Ein pushed them to move quicker so they wouldn't be stopped and inspected by every wolf.
But inevitably they were jumped by one werewolf in particular. It was a girl, almost as tall as Ein. She had long, straight, dark brown hair, a couple braids intertwined throughout the strands. Her ears and tail matched her hair color, with a little bit of blonde on the inside of her ears. She was wearing a white shoulder-less shirt with puffy half sleeves. She had a soft green skirt with light brown fabric draping over her tail. It was held up by a chunky belt and she was wearing tall brown boots. She also had a couple pieces of twig jewelry that matched the leaf tattoo she had on her right shoulder.
"Marinette! Ein!" She shouted with excitement.
"It's been forever how have you been! Have you gotten taller!?" She placed her hand above Marinette trying to check the height difference.
"Okay that's not true, we saw each other yesterday." Ein stated.
"But that's a while!" She jumped in.
"Listen V, we're kinda in a hurry right now, so if we could just-" He gently started to nudge her out of the way before she gasped and pushed past him.
"Who's this!?" She looked at Adrien circling him a few times as she spoke. "I've never seen him before? Are you from a different pack?! Why are you here? Why do you smell weird?"
"Uhm I- uhh." Adrien's eyes darted towards Ein for help.
He gently grabbed her arm pulling her closer to him.
"Okay, Vinny. Listen."
"Is he though?!" Her smile was so big she looked like she was going to explode from excitement any second.
"Vinny."
"Is he Marinette's age he looks around that age?"
"Vinny."
"Oh sorry! Maybe he's older and just looks short, I apologize!"
"Vinny!" Ein placed his hand on the top of her head. She stopped talking, but she didn't turn her head away from Adrien as he started to explain.
"This is Adrien." He pointed towards Adrien. "He's slightly lost.. and it's a very complicated situation...but please don't go telling every-wolf about him..."
"Why?" She asked quickly.
Ein placed his hand on her cheek.
"Please, just trust me."
Marinette and Adrien looked back and forth between them as they talked more quietly to each other.
"Uhm.. who's she?" Adrien asked.
Ein sighed. "Adrien this is my girlfriend, Vinny."
Vinny waved so fast it didn't even look like she had a hand.
Adrien slowly waved back.
"Okay, now we really should be going." Ein stated as he looked around for anymore oncoming werewolves.
"Fiiiinnneee! I'll see you around!" She quickly kissed Ein on the cheek and skipped away humming.
Ein blushed but quickly composed himself as he pushed them both forward.
They started to follow a gravel pathway. There were some vines which Ein easily pulled out of the way, revealing some kind of flowery field. It was a large open space, though it didn't feel that way with the amount of flowers there were. They weren't only on the ground, but also hanging from some very tall trees. A soft amount of sunlight was shining through the tops of the trees. The space felt like one of those butterfly gardens that you would find at the zoo.
A small "Woah!" Was all Adrien could muster as he stepped foot into the garden.
Marientte smiled and took his hand, leading him down the gravelly pathway. Ein followed slowing behind.
Marinette stoped walking which made Adrien halt as well.
He looked up to see puffy bushes and vines, with red, orange, pink and white roses. Somehow they grew in a gradient from darkest to lightest.
Adrien marveled at how pretty the flowers were. Roses had always been his favorite. Wether because it was his moms favorite or they had a ton of them in his own garden back at the palace, either way they were beautiful.
Adrien bent down and picked a smaller red rose, scraping off the sharp thorns.
Marinette looked at him with slight confusion as he took a step closer to her gesturing with the flower.
He moved in closer pulling a hair or two behind her ear as he placed the flower in her hair.
She blinked and looked up at him, smiling.
Ein was a a few yards away looking at some butterflies, yet it only took him two seconds to get over to them when he realized how close they were to each other.
As he sprinted to them he grabbed Adrien pulling him a few steps away.
"Both of you. At least- five feet away." He glared at both of them, though holding his stare at Adrien longer than the girl.
Adrien shuffled nervously, taking a couple uncomfortable steps to the side, away from Ein.
Maeinette coughed, breaking the silence that lingered in the air.
"We should, uhm... start heading back to the room. I have a few things I need to do, and there's way too many werewolves in the areas that I don't feel comfortable having you around- I mean, like so you don't blow your cover! I don't not like you- you're amazing- and handsome- I MEAN AMAZING- I just-" Ein cut her off by placing a hand on her shoulder.
"A simple we should go back to the room would have been fine." He said gently, making sure she understood that he was trying to help.
She nodded, blushing in embarrassment.
Adrien slightly chuckled from her face and the way she was stuttering earlier.
Ein got ahead of them as they walked.
"Follow me." He demanded.
(Big thanks to my sister who helps me proof read these chapters and make sure they don't sound like nonsense)
