A big family gets even bigger
Chapter Five: Lucky Lardload?
It was a well enough morning at the Loud family residence, where Lynn Sr. and his daughters recently had move in with them Lynn Sr.'s fiance Rita and her six children. Lynn Sr.'s daughters Luan, Lynn Jr., and Lola were caught so off guard by the bombshell dropped on them that they lashed out to varying degrees, latching onto to teasing their soon to be step-siblings over how all of them are rather obese.
A heart to heart talk happened, things were explained, and now everyone is on the road to adjusting to the sudden change in the status quo. Granted, Luan, Lynn, and Lola still need to do some work on getting used to their plus sized soon to be step-siblings, but at least an understanding had been reached. And those three girls have shown signs of coming to view the Alverson siblings as their own siblings.
One such example was Lynn looking around for Lincoln; Lynn had an important baseball game going on later that day, and none of her soon to be step-siblings had ever been to one of her sports games to cheer her on. Lynn settled on Lincoln on the basis that he's the only boy among the Alverson siblings, thus would be more likely to be interested in coming to watch a sports game and cheer Lynn and her team on.
Soon enough, Lynn spotted Lincoln making his way out of his bedroom, and his attention to the opposite end of the hall made it clear he wanted to use the bathroom. But before he got there, Lynn met him halfway through the second floor hallway. "Yo Lincoln, got a sec?" Lynn asked.
"Can I use the bathroom first?" Lincoln replied.
"This'll only take a sec, then you can go download a brownload," Lynn replied.
"I... actually need to do number one," Lincoln replied dryly.
"I'll only take a sec, then you can go bleed the lizard," Lynn amended, "Anyway, my baseball team and I have a really important baseball game later today. It's the last local game our team has for the season, and if we win we'll move onto a regional deal. It's especially important as every other local baseball team in Royal Woods, including ours, always fails to beat this one team that's called the Screaming Gophers, and my team is playing them in the game later today."
"Sounds like you guys have your work cut out for you," Lincoln said.
Pointing to Lincoln, Lynn said, "That's where you come in, Lincoln. You and your biological sisters have never been to any of my games yet to cheer me and my teams on, and I wanna get cracking on introducing you guys to the wide wild world of sports. So what do you say, Lincoln? Wanna come cheer me and my baseball team on at our game today?"
"Respectfully, I have to decline," Lincoln replied, "I don't really feel like going out today."
Lynn pulled out a baseball bat and held it while giving off a menacing look. "I implore you to reconsider."
Lincoln gave Lynn a dry, knowing look as he replied in a likewise tone, "You make a very persuasive argument, Lynn."
Later that day at the baseball field where Lynn's team was gonna have their last local game of the season, Lynn's teammates were in the locker room as Lynn entered with Lincoln following along behind her. Lynn's teammates were all surprised to see Lincoln, given his considerable girth. "Yo everyone, this is my soon to be step-brother who I mentioned," Lynn said, "He's come to watch our game today to cheer us on from the audience."
"I was expecting him to be big because you mentioned he and his biological sisters are all big," Margo began, "But I don't think any of us were expecting him to be this big!"
Rolling his eyes dryly, Lincoln said in an annoyed tone, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I'm fat."
Clapping her hands together, Lynn said, "Okay everyone, Imma go take Lincoln over to sit in the bleachers, then I'll come back and we'll get ready to play ball!"
"I'm doubtful that we'll win," Paula said, "We're facing the Screaming Gophers. They always win the last local game of the season, even on the occasions where we've faced them."
"That's part of why I had us all train and practice as much as possible," Lynn said, "We're gonna make history today by being the first local teak who aren't the Screaming Gophers to win the last local game of the season in Royal Woods!" The rest of Lynn's teammates all cheered, although there was a noted lack of enthusiasm.
Lynn then left to take Lincoln to sit in the bleachers so he'll be part of the audience. After Lynn and Lincoln were gone, Margo whispered to Paula, "Seriously. I had no idea that he'd be that fat."
"Makes you wonder about the rest of Lynn's soon to be step-siblings," Paula whispered back.
...
A short while later, the baseball game took off. Despite Lynn's teammates having a lack of confidence in their ability to beat the Screaming Gophers, they soon realized within the first few moments of the game that they were pulling ahead. Sure Lynn as the best athlete of the team had scored most of the team's points in the first inning, but even other members like Margo and Paula scored a point or two each.
Even more surprising was that the Screaming Gophers by comparison hardly scored any points during the first inning. ...And the same happened in the inning after that. ...And so on. Eventually, the game came to an end, and not only did Lynn's team make history by being the first local team that aren't the Screaming Gophers to win the last local game of the season, but Lynn's team had a score that was ten times greater (give or take a point or two) than what the Screaming Gophers had ended the game with.
"Holy crud!" Margo said as she and Paula walked and talked after the game, "We actually won! And by such a curb stomp in our favor!"
"Now our team can go onto the regionals!" Paula said, "I bet that's why Lynn ran to go share the good news with her soon to be step-bro-"
"How could you guys lose so badly?!"
The two girls stopped short upon hearing the Screaming Gophers' coach's voice from around the corner. The two girls stopped short and hid along the wall, and peeked around to see the coach of the Screaming Gophers berate the team for losing the game. "This is the first time in history that the Screaming Gophers failed to win the last local game of the season in Royal Woods," the coach went on, "What happened out there?!"
"Sorry coach," a mixed race boy apologized, "But we were kind of distracted by this one kid who was in the audience."
"What kid?" the coach asked.
"Some white boy with white hair," an African American girl began to explain, "Wore an orange polo shirt. Rather heavy set too." Margo and Paula realized that the Screaming Gophers were talking about Lynn's soon to be step-brother Lincoln.
Folding his arms over his chest, the coach asked, "What did he do to distract you all? Throw jeering taunts at you? Throw stuff at any of you?"
"No, he..." the mixed race boy began, "...he just sat in the audience and cheered whenever the team we fought scored a point against us. He actually didn't do anything we could take action against."
"So how come he distracted you?" the coach demanded.
Pointing to the African American girl, a Hispanic boy said, "When she said that the boy was heavy set, he was REALLY heavy set. He was basically a Hutt, he was that big!"
"So you all lost the game today because a particularly fat boy in the audience distracted you solely due to how fat he is," the coach said. Scowling, the coach went on, "It's like the time I went with my wife to the book signing for the latest Rita Alverson novel and my wife and I actually met Rita, and I was caught off guard by how fat Rita was." Gently shaking his head, the coach said, "It's still no excuse for you guys losing today."
The coach then led the Screaming Gophers out of where they were meeting through another exit away from the one Margo and Paula hid outside of. "...We won because the Screaming Gophers were distracted by Lincoln in the audience due to how fat he is?" Margo said.
"A win is a win," Paul reasoned, "And it's about time that the Screaming Gophers got served a slice of humble pie."
A look of consideration appeared on Margo's face. "...We have a few more sports games this season," Margo began, "And we won as easily as we did today because Lincoln was in the audience. Maybe he can do for us at our other sports games this season what he did for us today."
"You think we can use Lynn's soon to be step-brother as a lucky charm of sorts to help us win our other games?" Paula asked.
Shrugging, Margo replied, "It's worth a shot. Anyway, let's go grab Lynn so we and the rest of the team can go grab munchies to celebrate." Paula nodded in agreement and left with Margo to go and find Lynn, partly to grab munchies and partly to see if she can bring Lincoln to watch their other sports games for that season.
...
Margo and Paula eventually found Lynn, but they saw that she was being chewed out by a blonde haired woman who was rather wide and round and fat, similar to Lincoln who the girls saw stood next to the woman. "You actually threatened Lincoln with a baseball bat?!" the fat woman exclaimed at Lynn, "What is wrong with you, young lady?!"
Sensing trouble, Margo and Paula came running over to the scene. "What's going on here?" Margo asked.
Gesturing to the fat woman, Lynn in a tone that showed she knew she was in trouble said, "This is Rita, Lincoln's mom and my soon to be step-mom. She found out how I got Lincoln to agree to come to watch our game today."
"Your father is going to be hearing about this, Lynn!" Rita exclaimed, "I mean seriously! Why couldn't you have just let Lincoln do his own thing at the house today?"
"Actually, Lincoln being here today to cheer our team on was just the boost we needed to win the game," Margo cut in, getting the attention of Lynn, Rita, and Lincoln, "Today was the first time in history that the Screaming Gophers did NOT win the last local game of the season in Royal Woods, and it was our team that had made that history."
Nodding once, Paula said, "Oh yeah! He was like the lucky charm that was needed all this time for another team to finally deal an 'L' to the Screaming Gophers! I highly doubt that we could have won today's game without him being here."
Gesturing to herself and Paula, Margo went on, "The team and I were gonna grab Lynn so we can go grab some munchies to celebrate, and we were also gonna grab stuff for Lincoln as well to thank him for being there."
As Lincoln took out a small notepad and a pen without anyone paying attention to him, Rita said to the girls, "I see that you're appreciative of having Lincoln around and I appreciate that, but I still don't like how Lynn had coerced him into attending the baseball game that you all played today. I was also worried due to having no idea where Lincoln had gone off to."
"We'll let you know everything the next time that we wanna bring Lincoln to come watch one of our games," Margo said.
Sighing, Rita went on, "I'm not sure if-"
*rip*
Rita stopped short when Lincoln tore a sheet from the small notepad he had before handing it over to Margo and Paula, the former taking it. "That's a list of what all I want," Lincoln said, "Given the nature of how Lynn convinced me to come here today, I think it's agreeable."
Looking at the list, Margo said, "It's a big list."
Lincoln patted his very considerable belly, gave Margo a dry, knowing look. "I have a big appetite."
Shrugging, Margo replied, "Fair enough." Margo and Paula, given that Rita seemed to acknowledge that Lincoln was going to be getting compensation for his troubles today, allowed the two girls to take Lynn to go get snacks, although they'd have to bring back to the Loud family residence what all they were getting for Lincoln.
A big haul for a big boy.
Later, Margo and Paula helped Lynn carry in everything they got for Lincoln into the Loud family residence. It was there that they were greeted by Lynn Sr., Lynn's biological sisters, and Lincoln. "Junior, what were you thinking threatening Lincoln like that?!" Lynn Sr. practically exclaimed at his daughter he named after himself.
"To be fair daddy," Lola spoke up, "Lynn threatening Lincoln into attending one of her sports games is a sign that she views him as one of us. Lynn did once threaten me into attending a tennis game she had to play, using a pair of tennis rackets to scare me into going."
"She made me go to a hockey game with a hockey stick she held like a scythe also she wore a hoodie and had the hood up," Luan spoke up.
Sighing, Lynn Sr. replied, "I just didn't want anything happening to upset and or anger Rita, especially as the wedding is still set for this summer. You have a lot of apologizing to do, Junior."
With a dry look, Lynn replied, "Given the haul my teammates and I got for Lincoln when we did our snack run after winning today's game, I think it'll be a good start."
Luan, Lola, and even Lisa to an extent were surprised by how much Lynn and her teammates got for Lincoln, but Lori said, "Yeah, that looks about right for one of Leni's younger siblings."
As the snacks for Lincoln were put away, Margo spoke up, "Anyway, Paula, Lynn, our teammates, and I still have a few games for other sports left before the current sports season ends and we have to get ready for doing regionals for baseball. We were hoping that Lincoln would come to the next game which is for soccer."
"Oh yeah," Lynn spoke up, "Today's game was the greatest win in our favor to date, and Lincoln was there for it! It's like he's a lucky charm for us or something."
"Hoo boy," Lisa spoke up in a knowing tone, "Lincoln, to give you fair warning about our athletic older sister unit here, she can be a bit superstitious from time to time, especially when it comes to trying to rack up good luck to help her and her teams win their sports games. If she thinks you're a good luck charm, then your free time until the local sorts game seasons for Lynn's various sports teams is over has more or less been forfeited."
Rolling his eyes, Lincoln said, "Charming."
"Relax, we'll be sure to make sure you're well compensated for coming out to see our games," Margo replied to the very well fed Alverson brother, "We really just want you to see us shine."
Sighing, Lincoln said, "Fine, but your remaining sports games better not take up too much time."
"We only have a couple of games for various sports left before we have to shift gears to focus on the regional games for baseball," Margo pointed out.
"Also the regional games for baseball will take us out of town, so I highly doubt that we can bring you to watch those games," Paula said.
Nodding in agreement, Lincoln replied, "Yeah, no way will my mom consent to me being taken out of town like that." With Lincoln tentatively agreeing to attend the remaining local sports games that Lynn and her teammates have for their various sports teams in Royal Woods, Lynn, Margo, and Paula all cheered, although Lynn had no idea that Margo and Paula were hoping to see if Lincoln really was as lucky as he is fat.
The soccer game that Lynn, Margo, Paula, and their teammates played ended up being their finest win in local soccer games yet, ending that game with a score that was at least five times greater than what the opposing soccer team managed to get against them. Margo and Paula saw signs that Lincoln cheering for their soccer team helped, given that they saw how some of the members of the opposing soccer team were distracted by the sight of a super fat boy in the audience who was cheering for Lynn's soccer team.
Next after that was a hockey game that Lynn, Margo, Paula, and their teammates played, and as it was for baseball and soccer, Lincoln came to watch, his considerable rear plopped down on a front row seat in the bleachers so he could cheer them on. Lynn and her teammates won that hockey game as well, and it was another curb stomp in their favor. Margo and Paula noticed it when the opposing team was partly distracted by the sight of a Hutt of a boy sitting in the audience cheering for Lynn and the others on her team.
Then came a football game after that. Lynn, Margo, Paula, and the rest of their teammates scored an easy win, getting touchdown after touchdown. Margo and Paula saw signs that the opposing football team was distracted whenever the fat boy in the audience cheered every time Lynn and her teammates scored a touchdown. Margo and Paula were seeing more and more signs that having the heavy set soon to be step-brother of Lynn support them at their sports games was actually of great benefit to their athletic efforts.
Even Lynn wasn't blind to how Lincoln's presence at the sports games she and her teammates played had a very positive effect on their win rate, although she had no idea why Lincoln being at all of those sports games was of great benefit. Margo and Paula got it from Lynn's older sister Lori that it was also helping Lynn get more comfortable with the Alverson siblings being around now, Lynn beforehand was iffy towards the plus sized Alversons. Granted Lori wanted Lynn to see Lincoln as more than just a good luck charm, but groundwork towards Lynn accepting Lincoln was laid.
Lynn had also posed the idea of having all of the Alverson siblings come to the last local sports game she and her teammates would be playing that season, a basketball game. But the Alverson sisters all either had excuses, or were able to firmly tell Lynn no, or in Lily's case was too young to go. Not wanting to incur Rita's wrath by threatening the Alverson sisters, Lynn settled for having just her lucky soon to be step-brother coming.
Lynn and her teammates were on a roll, and only Margo and Paula knew why.
...
"Okay you guys," Lynn said to her teammates in a locker room at the basketball stadium where the local game for youth teams would take place, "Today is the day of the last sports game that's local in Royal Woods that we'll be playing for the season, before we have to switch gears and focus on the regional games for baseball."
"I still can't believe we actually beat the Screaming Gophers," a mixed race boy on Lynn's team said, "It still feels like a dream."
"We've won every game since beating the Screaming Gophers in baseball," an African American boy on Lynn's team pointed out, "And they were all curb stomps in our favor! That's more of a dream than the Screaming Gophers losing a local game for once, at least if you ask me."
Pointing to her teammates, Lynn said, "And we're gonna win today's basketball game same as we've won every game in recent events!"
As Lynn's teammates cheered and went about getting ready for the basketball game, Margo and Paula went up to Lynn and got her attention. "Hey Lynn," Margo began, "I'm guessing that your soon to be step-brother came to watch today's basketball game?"
Nodding once, Lynn said, "Oh hecks yeah. He's got a front row seat with all of his friends."
"His friends?" Paula asked.
"Four boys named Clyde, Rusty, Liam, and Zach," Lynn explained as she listed names off of her fingers, "And three girls named Ronnie Anne, Stella, and Sid. There's a fourth girl as well named Astrid, but she didn't come as Ronnie Anne explained that Astrid is no good in large crowded areas that can get loud, such as basketball games."
Margo and Paula were concerned about how Lincoln being surrounded by friends may affect his ability to distract the opposing team. "Well we'll still be able to see him cheer for us, won't we?" asked Paula.
"He's a big wide round orange shirt in the front row," Lynn pointed out, "There's no way that we can miss him." Margo and Paula were hoping that meant that there was no way that the opposing team could miss seeing Lincoln as well. As such, the two girls both got cracking on getting ready for the basketball game with Lynn and the rest of their team. This game was important, and as such Margo and Paula were hoping for another big miracle win.
Lynn's team came out into the basketball court at around the same time as the opposing team. As Lynn's team came out, Margo and Paula scanned the front row seats, looking for a big wide round sphere of orange. They spotted Lincoln in the front row of the audience along their right, and he was seated with a number of boys, mostly white but one was African American.
They also saw three girls seated with Lincoln and those boys; one looked Philippino, one looked to be at least half Asian judging by her eyes, and the girl seated next to Lincoln on his right was Hispanic and, to the surprise of Margo and Paula, as big and wide and round as Lincoln himself. That Hispanic girl was the purple to Lincoln's orange, looking like one big grape.
"That's Ronnie Anne," Lynn whispered to Margo and Paula when they asked her about the girl seated next to Lincoln, "She's Lincoln's girlfriend by the way."
Margo and Paula were not expecting there to be another plus sized fan to cheer their team on. But if Ronnie Anne's size can distract the opposing team as easily as Lincoln's size can, then Margo and Paula would be grateful for it. Within due time, the basketball game kicked off, and Margo and Paula and Lynn and the rest of the team hoped for the best.
...
Lynn and her teammates won that basketball game by a landslide; their score at the end of the game was in the triple digits whereas the opposing team ended with a single digit score. The fans that Lynn's team had in the front row cheering for them were clearly a big help, especially as Margo and Paula saw that Lincoln and his girlfriend Ronnie Anne had distracted the opposing team just by being as big as they were.
"This had been the best end of season playing we've ever done!" Lynn cheered as she and her teammates celebrated their massive win, "Now all we gotta do is train for the regional games that we got for baseball!"
"Yeah, I still can't believe we're going to regionals in baseball," Paula said.
As Lynn was talking with her teammates, they were approached by Lincoln and his friend group. Leading the group was Ronnie Anne, who had a look of dry unamusement on her face as she looked right at Lynn. "Hey Lynn," Ronnie Anne scowled, making Lynn turn to face her and the rest of the group that Ronnie Anne was in, "I got it that you threatened Lincoln with a baseball bat to make him come out to watch your baseball game a short while ago."
Lynn remembered that Ronnie Anne doesn't tolerate Lincoln being messed with or pushed around, as Lola learned the hard way. "Oh, umm, I already worked things out with-"
Lynn was cut off when Ronnie Anne pulled out what looked to Lynn like a massive baseball bat, with round blunt metal studs on the hitting part. "I think that it's time that I return the favor," said the very unhappy Hispanic girl as she held her bludgeoning item.
"Yo, that is the most epic looking baseball bat I've ever seen," a white boy on Lynn's team said as he pointed at the item that Ronnie Anne just pulled out.
"It's not a baseball bat, it's a kanabo," Stella said, "Ronnie Anne borrowed it from Astrid's older brother Aggro."
"It's a Japanese studded great club," Sid explained.
Lynn went wide eyed with shocked worry and alarm. "...Lori being protective of Bobby must have rubbed off on you, leading to how protective you are of Lincoln," Lynn said, right before she turned around and began to run away from Ronnie Anne. Seeing Ronnie Anne angrily chase Lynn for having bullied Lincoln amused and surprised Lynn's teammates, especially since Ronnie Anne seemed like her own weight wasn't slowing her down.
The weight of the kanabo, however, seemed to weigh Ronnie Anne back, letting Lynn stay ahead so long as she didn't stop.
That evening at the Loud family residence, Lynn entered the front door with Margo and Paula, bringing in a load of snacks and sodas for Lincoln. They were greeted by the sight of another one of the Servantbots that Lisa can make, but this one was pink where the one Lincoln has is blue, and it had a curved waist area to resemble a girl's waist. Lisa was presenting it to Lincoln and Ronnie Anne when Lynn and her friends came in.
"That one looks different from the one you made for Lincoln," Lynn spoke up, getting the attention of Lincoln, Ronnie Anne, and Lisa.
"It's a maid model Servantbot," Lisa explained, "Lincoln's Servantbot Jarvis is a butler model." Patting the maid model Servantbot, Lisa said, "I made this one here for Ronnie Anne, as I need notes on how the maid model differs from the butler model, also this is the first Servantbot who will be doing work off of Loud residence grounds."
"I named her Rosetta," Ronnie Anne said, "She'll be very useful over at my family's house, especially when my grandparents visit and my Grandma Rosa does work in the kitchen. I bet she'll appreciate Rosetta's help when Rosetta isn't helping me."
"Huh, I knew that Lisa was smart because Lynn said so, but I wasn't expecting smarts good enough to create robots," Margo said.
"I wasn't expecting that wicked looking club Ronnie Anne pulled out earlier to chase Lynn with," Paula spoke up.
"Yeah, Aggro wouldn't let me take his katana," Ronnie Anne said.
"The guy you got that club from has a katana?" Paula asked, looking surprised.
Shrugging, Ronnie Anne said, "You'd be surprised by a lot of what Astrid's older siblings Aggro and Allison have."
"Meh, whatever," Margo said, "Anyway, we just got back from the munchies run to celebrate how awesome our sports playing has been ever since we beat the Screaming Gophers in the last local baseball game in Royal Woods for the season. Some of the bags are for Lincoln."
"You remembered everything?" Lincoln asked.
Nodding once, Paula said, "Oh yeah. We'd also get you snacks for coming to watch our regional baseball games, but we unfortunately enough can't bring you out of town which is were the regional games will take place."
"That's fair," Lincoln replied, "Oh Lisa, there should be a pack of fig bars in the bags for me, those fig bars are for you."
"Eeeee!" Lisa cheered excitedly as she hopped up and down upon hearing she was getting some of her favorite snack.
Looking to Ronnie Anne, Lincoln asked, "You think you got time to hang for a bit? We got snacks and sodas obviously."
"It'll be at least an hour before Bobby can come pick me and Rosetta up," Ronnie Anne replied, then added with an amused smirk, "And you know me, I'm always hungry." Lincoln and Ronnie Anne got the bags containing the goods for Lincoln, then they went into the living room with Lisa and Rosetta following the two of them.
While Lincoln's group was in the living room relaxing and watching TV, Lynn turned to Margo and Paula. "It sucks we can't bring Lincoln to the regional games for baseball that we're gonna play," Lynn began, "It'd be reassuring to have Lincoln there, especially since Lincoln was at every sports game we've played where we won by landslides."
Shrugging, Margo said, "Well we'll just have to train and practice extra hard to compensate."
Lynn nodded in agreement with Margo. Sure, she had no idea WHY Lincoln's presence at the sports games her teams won was lucky (only Margo and Paula knew), but she did like how Lincoln being there led to a slew of rather impressive victories. It helped to get Lynn more used to her plus sized soon to be step-siblings.
There was still work needing to be done, but progress HAD been made.
END, CHAPTER FIVE
Author's notes;
This chapter draws inspiration from the infamous episode 'No such luck', but instead of Lynn coming to view Lincoln as bad luck, she came to view him as GOOD luck because his presence at her baseball game led to her team winning by a curb stomp. She never learned why exactly that is though, only Margo and Paula know that it was because the opposing team was distracted by seeing Lincoln, solely due to the Huttish girth he has.
Margo and Paula then have Lincoln come of other sports games they and Lynn play, and each game saw Lynn and friends win thanks to Lincoln being there cheering for them. Things end on a good note, with more hope that Lynn, Luan, and Lola will eventually become as accepting of the Alverson siblings as Lori and Lisa are, although Lynn is chased by a pissed off Ronnie Anne who borrowed a kanabo from Astrid's older brother.
Anyway, the next chapter will actually see some focus on things between Lola and Lana, which are still a bit contested. Until then, take care.
