RWBY: Goodbye Little Friend

Bonus chapter: My Little Hero

Little had thought they'd experienced enough fright in one lifetime tonight. First, they felt they're heart break as Ruby unleashed a tremendous yet sad fury upon her friends for, as she put it, neglecting her sufferings.

"Shut. Up." Ruby's cold broken words rattling the air as they spawned. Little's heart bled for that poor cat girl Blake as they saw her ears go down and she winced in fright at Ruby's demeanor.

"Don't do that…..just don't." As shocked as they were by the tears they saw flow down her face, Little saw on her friends own terrified faces how heavy her words crushed their spirits.

The next thing that broke Little's…..was watching Ruby's shatter.

"How many more people are going to die, BECAUSE OF YOU!" A red haired woman shouted as she pummeled Ruby with a spear before kicking the battered and bloodied Huntress to the wall. Apparently these people tormenting Ruby were people from her past. She did mention she failed people she cared about. But what Little couldn't understand was why someone wanted to hurt Ruby? She was so kind and caring, giving them cheese when she didn't even know Little, it made no sense to them.

"I'm trying to save everyone." Ruby cried in despair before, to Little's horror, she was punched in the gut before being tossed like a ragdoll into the center of the mansion, where a grey haired man with glasses began pummeling her to death with a cane. Tears stung the mouse's eyes as this happened, covering their paws to stop seeing this nightmare.

Just when it seemed over, as they heard their cat friend, The Curious Cat, blasted Neo and those clones away from her friend Ruby, both Little and Ruby were shocked as the cat Afteren plunged its claws into her chest, her screeches of pain nearly making Little's ears bleed.

"I've got to save Ruby!" Little screeched as they saw this torture proceed further.

But the third, most terrifying thing to happen tonight, the reality that blasted the poor little mouse as they failed.

"I can't go with you Little….I'll just screw that up too."

"Those were her last words to me. She called herself a screw up and just, drank it." Little whimpered as they cradled themselves from the memory. It didn't even matter to them they were in a dark void they didn't know where, in front of a colossal giant bearing down upon them able to crush them with a single step. Little never felt so scared, cold, and pathetic right now.

"My friend needed me and I just…watched her die." Little whispered.

"Did you do all you could for her?" The giant robotic woman asked.

"I did." They whimpered.

"Then why punish yourself so if you did all you could?" The Giant spirit asked them. Little gritted their teeth and glared at the spirit.

"That's just it! That's ALL I could do!" Little shouted, surprised themselves by their outburst before inhaling, struggling to control their anger.

"I should have done more. But I…I couldn't do anything to stop that woman. That cat! All because I'm just a short useless creature!" Little shouted.

"Perhaps that's what Ruby Rose felt like too?" The spirit mused before turning around, beginning to sew some red cloth at a bench, putting some wooden carvings on the ends to keep them in place. Little didn't know what startled them more, a bench magically appearing out of nowhere, or the robotic woman's words.

"W-What do you mean?" Little asked nervously.

"When I met you and Ruby Rose, back in the market, I could sense your friend was carrying a VERY heavy burden. Like the weight of the world itself crushing her shoulders." They explained.

"I wasn't that heavy. I don't eat that much cheese." Little retorted.

The smith snickered and chuckled in amusement.

"What I mean is, your friend felt weak, a failure like you do now. She was burdened too much, riddled with wounds of failure and guilt, as if all the faults she witnessed in life were somehow caused by her." Smith explained.

"But Ruby was so kind and sweet. She's no monster like that girl and cat." Little whimpered.

"Indeed, and when one tries to do the right thing against evil, they often do it alone, or feel they need to for others sake. It makes them feel very small and weak at times." The smith retorted softly.

" Tell them I'm sorry I was such a failure of a leader." Little's eyes widened as the full weight of Ruby's weak words dawned on them.

"Its so unfair. She didn't deserve that. I should have been able to save my friend from that. That's, that's what she felt like right?" The mouse asked sadly, despite already knowing the answer as the smith shrugged.

"Who knows what causes a broken heart at times? A lost home, family, or maybe purpose?" The smith mused.

"What was her purpose?" Little asked.

"I don't know. I don't even think she knows anymore." The smith sadly said as they moved the wood carvings aside from the cloth. Little sadly gazed upon them, seeing balls of what looked like the paper pleasers, but what tugged the heartstrings? One was Ruby, covering her chest with her palms while hanging her head in shame, as if crying in pain.

"Then what's my purpose?" Little asked.

"What do you want it to be my friend?" The smith asked with a tree root eyebrow cocked.

Those words echoed in Little's ears as they locked their gaze upon Ruby's carving. Memories of her smile formed, soon replaced by the crying frown and then dead eyed glare she gave as her wounds from Neo and the Cat consumed her. A sense of anger, power, and energy rose up within them, as Little found their answer.

"I want to be strong. I want to be bigger and stronger to protect my friends, to protect everyone so they don't ever suffer like she did again!" Little shouted, wanting the robot giant and anyone who could hear their newfound goal.

The robotic spirit smiled, proud of this declaration and stood up from the bench.

"Then you'll need some new clothes to fit for your growth spurt little one." They chuckled before showing off a newly sewed Red hood and cape before the awestruck mouse who slowly reached for it, its body emitting a small red glow as it touched it, soon closing their eyes as everything was going dark after the shine.

A Hero and Huntress Reborn

When the mouse opened their eyes, they saw themselves surrounded by large trees with rainbow leaves.

"W…Where am I?" Was the first thing the mouse said as they moved their neck around, feeling odd out of the uncertainty of why they feel surprised seeing things from their height. Weren't they suppose to be 5 feet tall? Then their eyes widened as they realized something.

"Who am I?" The large mouse uttered in panic, breathing heavily as they looked at themselves, noticing brown gloves on their hands, a brown utility belt on their waist. But what felt even weirder, yet oddly warm and comforting, was a red cloak wrapped around their neck.

Quickly the mouse took a deep breath, trying to calm themselves and process the situation.

"Okay, alright. I woke up, not knowing who or what the heck I am, wearing these interesting clothes, and surrounded in a place I have no idea how is so colorful. Yeah…sounds like a great beginning to a story." They whined.

"I didn't see little there."

Soon their ears twitched as they heard something beautiful, a girl speak in the distance. They instantly starting running towards her sound.

"Why am I running? Why is that voice so alluring?" They whispered to themselves, and soon found the answer as they got near. The girl had pretty silver eyes, the same clothes as the mouse, and a familiar sad look etched onto her face as she slowly walked towards a glowing door away from them with some other colorful characters unfamiliar to them.

"Wait!" they cried out in desperation, huffing in exhaustion as their lungs burned to catch up to them.

"Little!" The silver eyed girl screamed in joy, bouncing in glee.

The name sounded familiar, but somehow foreign to the mouse.

"Is….that my name? Who are you? How do you know me?" When the mouse asked its thoughts, it almost regretted them as they saw the girl, whom identified herself as Ruby Rose deflate almost crying.

"Who do you think you are?" A black haired cat girl asked them.

The question made the mouse clasp its chin and ponder.

"I feel like….hmmm?" They pondered.

"A friend?" Ruby asked.

"A protector?" A white haired girl chimed in.

"A…dorable!" A blond gushed over them making the white haired girl giggle.

"Hmm…" The mouse pondered their words. They all seemed right, yet not quite the answer as well. Quite the conundrum for the amnesiac.

"I feel like, somewhat of all that." They decided.

"Then, how about Somewhat?" An old wrinkly man in rusted armor asked. His friends nodded and praised him, the mouse learning his name was Jaune. Hearing the others names Weiss, Yang, and Blake, the mouse smiled as the names began ringing to them, the one they proposed seeming very appealing to Ruby's joy as she saw.

"That sound good?" Ruby asked with a smile.

"Yeah…Somewhat. I'm some of all that, but not one of anything. I feel I can do somewhat of anything, help anything now!" The newly christened Somewhat exclaimed with glee.

Jaune soon said he'd need help and Ruby affirmed, rubbing her arm a bit awkwardly as she nodded. Somewhat felt a bit sad as they saw her in pain a bit, as if she was lost in something. Before they could ask curiously, Jaune handed him the reigns to a rabbit deer thrice his size named Juniper after saying goodbye and asking it to help guide Somewhat on his new heroic adventure.

Ruby walked up to them slowly, kneeling before them and locking silver eyes riddled with water that made the mouse recoil a bit, seeing its own silver eyes reflected in them. They felt alluring and familiar, like they belonged to each other as kin.

"Do you really not remember me? Anything I…did?" She asked with a grimace.

Somewhat twiddled its fingers and pondered unsure, seeing nothing but a haze in its memories, though it did feel a strange cold over them at one point soon melt into warmth as they saw a smile, with a warm red glowing hand extended to it.

"You…do look familiar. Like a happy dream I can't remember." Somewhat said, feeling butterflies in their stomach as they felt a warm nostalgic wave wash over them, which was only strengthened by the girl dressed so much like them clasping her arms around their neck in a tight warm hug.

"I'm sure you'll do great things, but now we have to say goodbye." Those sad and warm words came from the crying girl. Somewhat smiled as they nuzzled the girl's wet cheeks as long as they could.

"It will be alright, Huntress."

Those were Somewhat's last words of joy to their new friend as they rode off on Juniper towards the Ever After, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction, as if closure, as the last they saw of team RWBY was a smile on their leaders tearful face as she waved them goodbye, trailing off to fulfill their purpose in life, and help others find theirs too, unaware they had started already with Ruby.
