Chapter 2*
The morning sun streamed through the curtains, filling the room with a warm glow. Lucius stretched, a contented smile playing on his lips as he looked over at Rodolphus, who was already awake, a thoughtful expression on his face.
"Lucius," Rodolphus said, his voice soft but filled with excitement, "how about we take the kids out for a fun day soon?"
Lucius turned to him, his eyes lighting up at the suggestion. "Sounds like a great idea," he agreed, the corners of his mouth turning up in a smile.
Hearing their parents' voices, Emmy and Adam, who were playing on the floor, perked up immediately. "The park! Please, Mama, Daddy!" they shouted in unison, their little faces filled with anticipation.
Rodolphus's grin widened as he looked at Lucius, his eyes twinkling with the same excitement. "Park it is! How about now?" he asked, his excitement matching the children's.
Lucius chuckled, feeling a wave of affection for his family. "Why not? It'll be a pre-bedtime adventure!" he replied with a wink.
With that, they gathered a few essentials and headed out to the private park on the Malfoy grounds. The park was lush and expansive, a perfect haven for the children. Lucius took Adam to the swings, pushing him gently. He beamed at the baby's infectious giggles, each laugh filling his heart with joy. Rodolphus, on the other hand, was helping Emmy climb up the slide, his hands ready to catch her if she slipped.
"Look at me, Daddy!" Emmy called out from the top of the slide, her face lit up with joy. She slid down with a triumphant cheer, landing in Rodolphus's arms, who swung her around before setting her down with a laugh.
After a while, Lucius and Rodolphus decided to switch things up, and soon all four of them were busy building sandcastles, digging around in the sand and decorating their creations with little twigs and leaves they found nearby.
Just then, Harden wandered out from the manor, drawn by the sound of laughter from the garden. His eyes softened as he saw his family playing together, the sight warming his heart.
"Grandpa!" Emmy and Adam yelled, spotting him immediately. They waved excitedly, their small hands covered in sand.
"Hi, Mom!" Lucius greeted, waving with a grin.
"Hello!" Rodolphus added cheerfully, his hands still buried in the sand as he tried to create a moat around their sandcastle.
Harden approached them with a smile. "Grandpa, come play with us!" Emmy pleaded, her eyes wide with hope.
Harden chuckled, his tiredness evident but his love for his grandchildren stronger. "Not right now, sweetheart. Grandpa's a bit tuckered out," he replied with a tired smile.
Lucius, noticing the slight weariness in Harden's expression, asked, "Are you alright, Dad?"
Harden waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, I'm fine. Your father and I had a little date night," he explained with a playful twinkle in his eye.
Lucius's face turned bright red at the implication. "Oh no, not that image!" he exclaimed, putting a hand over his eyes as if to block out the thought.
Harden chuckled, clearly amused. "Yes, Lucius, that's exactly why!" he said, enjoying his son's reaction.
Rodolphus laughed at the exchange, shaking his head. "Well, at least he's still got it!" he quipped, grinning at Harden.
Harden grinned back, proud as ever. "Glad to know you think so!" he responded, winking.
Lucius groaned, rolling his eyes but unable to keep the smile from his face. "Not you too," he muttered, though the warmth in his voice gave away his affection.
"Mama, Daddy, play!" Emmy and Adam called again, eager to have their parents' full attention.
"Alright, we'll see you later, Dad," Lucius said, still smiling. "Love you."
"Love you too," Harden replied, waving as he headed off with a chuckle, the sound of the children's laughter following him as he walked back to the manor.
Lucius and Rodolphus returned to their playful antics with the kids, digging in the sand and creating little worlds of their own. Before long, Emmy and Adam's giggles turned into hungry grumbles, signaling that it was time for lunch.
"Who's ready for some lunch?" Rodolphus called out, standing and brushing the sand from his pants.
"Yes, please!" the kids cheered in unison, their faces lighting up at the thought of food.
Lucius and Rodolphus gathered up their things, scooping up Emmy and Adam into their arms. They headed inside, their hearts full, ready to enjoy a meal together as a family.
