Okay, here is the next phase, and the longer part of this events that the last phase was a part of originally. I give fair warning, or rather reiterate general events may stay the same, but details will be changing. This Phase is sort of an example of that somewhat. Do enjoy the Phase!
Phase 87: A Night to Remember?
November 12th, 73 C.E.
Shira, the Republic of East Asia
Athrun left the meeting with Captain Gladys, he returned to the quarters which Miss Lakeen and Mr. Dems had shown him to. He would need to stop by Tyler's place to pick up the other bag that he'd brought with him and transfer it to the Minerva. From what he'd heard along his way to the quarters Athrun had been assigned, the Minerva would head out from Shira some time tomorrow. So, Athrun could go get his things sometime during the current day. Yet, there were a few things that Athrun still wanted to talk to Tyler about. The issue was some of that was stuff that ZAFT would love to hear which they shouldn't. Thus, it would be best for such a conversation is not in a place that others could effectively listen in. So, with that in mind, Athrun made the call to Tyler so they could plan a meeting before the Minerva headed out.
Tyler had just returned from talking with his mom. She had made some time to spend with Tyler while he was around Shira. He tried to get some time with her when he did get time around home. Tyler did respect and enjoy time around his mother. But with her busy with running the Republic, getting time on short notice wasn't always easy. However, Tyler didn't want any to say he didn't make the effort to get time with family when the opportunity did come up. He'd also learned that the Alliance was being more aggressive with the Federation member nations from what his mother said. That wasn't that much of a surprise to Tyler. Signs had been showing that radicals had taken control of the Earth Alliance again and it was as bad if not worse as it had been during the latter part of the Alliance-PLANT War. Of course, none of the member nations were heeding or giving the Alliance anything they were asking/demanding.
With the Alliance essentially starting another war for the whole human race, Tyler felt that many would be busy including himself. So, Tyler figured that the Normandy would be given work to do soon enough. The quiet time had been nice to Tyler and he'd made sure his crew did get leave while they were docked in Shira. Tyler felt that there would be little quiet for a while after the period the Normandy had been docked in Shira. Knowing a war was coming thanks to the Alliance didn't sit well with Tyler. He felt that the Alliance was more a vehicle for the war than its endorsers. There still hadn't been much progress on finding out who it was funding and likely "advising" the Alliance's leadership to do what they were. Tyler doubted that he was the only one frustrated that the "puppeteers" were still in the shadows.
Tyler was brought out of his thoughts when his com-unit began going off. He took out the unit and glanced at the display to see who was calling him. Tyler was a tad surprised to see that it was Athrun that was reaching out. As far as Tyler knew, Athrun had headed out to go to the Minerva to "check-in" with those there. Sure, there was one bag which his friend had left at Tyler's place which he would need to pick up or have sent to him. But Tyler felt that whatever Athrun was calling about didn't have anything to do with the bag at his place. Yet, the best way to find out what it was about was to talk to his friend, so Tyler connected the call. "Hey Athrun," Tyler greeted, "to what do I owe the call? As I said, you are free to come by my place at any time day or night to pick up your bag man."
Hearing Tyler's voice improved Athrun's mood as it did pretty much any other time. And Athrun felt that he wouldn't be able to reach out to Tyler or Kira as much as he'd been able to before while with ZAFT. It was a price he'd known would come with him going back to ZAFT, and if it helped minimize the effects of the coming war, it was one Athrun would pay. He knew if there was a good reason, Athrun could contact Tyler for anything. Yet, Athrun had a feeling that ZAFT may get suspicious if he was talking to a Federation soldier without their permission too often while he was on a ZAFT vessel on "on duty." So, while the Minerva was around Shira, it would be the last free chance that Athrun would have to talk to Tyler. "I'll come by for my bag later, Tye," Athrun replied. "I was hoping we could have one last talk before the Minerva heads out day after tomorrow if you are free."
Tyler was never against a conversation with a friend when the request came. Then with Athrun with ZAFT now officially, talking to him at any time wouldn't be as simple or easy. Not that Tyler would condemn Athrun's choice to go to ZAFT, that was his friend's decision and Tyler would support that. And with ZAFT having appeared to change for the better from what it had been at the end of Alliance-PLANT War, Tyler was less concerned with his friend's position. That didn't mean Tyler wouldn't be worrying about Athrun with what kind of things the Minerva had gotten involved in so far during its service. The Minerva was following the unfortunate expectation of any ship that was the first of a limited production class. It drew praise for getting through the crap it was drawn into but still was targeted far more by enemy forces than other ships received. The Archangel was a textbook example of the idea, and the Minerva was following the same general point.
That didn't mean Tyler didn't believe Athrun couldn't look after himself and manage with the crap that came the Minerva's way. Athrun was a heck of a pilot by any standards, and the Minerva was lucky to have him working with them. And with ZAFT giving Athrun a Gundam type mobile suit, Athrun would be as capable as possible to assist the Minerva. Tyler feared his friend would need the Gundam with some of the rumors he'd been hearing. Supposedly, there was an OMNI fleet in the south Pacific Ocean, placed between Federation member nations and Carpentaria. Were that true and evidence strongly said it was, the Minerva would have to get through them to get to the ZAFT base. Tyler hadn't said anything about those rumors yet to Athrun and Tyler had been looking for a chance to do so. The conversation could be the chance Tyler had been looking for. But Tyler had a report to turn in soon, so he needed to work on it and finish it by the end of the current day. "I don't see why we can't get together and have a chat," Tyler remarked. "However, I can't tonight sorry to say, got a report to get done and turned in." Then Tyler had an idea of where their chat could take place and few if any would overhear what could be said. "Yet, tomorrow evening is open for me and as it happens, I know of an amazing restaurant in Shira that we could go have great food and have our chat in peace."
A restaurant would work out well enough for a conversation in Athrun's mind and tomorrow night was also okay. The environment would be noisy enough that the chance of any that could be listening in to not hear what could be said. Athrun felt that some things he wanted to talk to Tyler about could be taken as suspicious by some. It wasn't that Athrun doubted ZAFT or the direction it was going in, he felt that had improved greatly from what it had been. There were just things that Athrun had learned to question that others wouldn't which came to mind. Athrun could speak freely around Tyler and knew his friend wouldn't judge him. "That sounds good to me," Athrun returned, "when did you want to do this tomorrow?"
Tyler didn't answer Athrun right away, thinking on what the best way to go about setting up the meeting would be. If Athrun was on shore leave, then it would be easier as he was freer while on that. Should Athrun not be on shore leave, then there were things that Tyler would have to take into account. "Do you have shore leave tomorrow during the evening, my friend," Tyler inquired. "That would be nice to know as that could determine how this will need to be planned."
Technically, Athrun did have shore leave until the morning after tomorrow just before the Minerva was to head out. So, the lack of shore leave point wouldn't be an issue they would have to take into account. Athrun understood why Tyler was asking about the point specifically. There was more freedom and less chance of one's activities to be looked into potentially when one was on shore leave. It wasn't likely that the things which could come up in conversation would be problematic, but there still was a chance. "Yes," Athrun replied evenly, "I'm on shore leave until the morning after tomorrow just before the Minerva heads out. Where do you want to meet so we can have our conversation?"
Tyler felt that Athrun understood why he'd asked the shore leave question. Tyler didn't want to put his friend in a potentially questionable position if he didn't have to. And with the point settled, Tyler could get to the details of picking up Athrun and taking him to dinner. The restaurant that Tyler had in mind was a rather popular one in the evening. Not that Tyler didn't understand the reasons why, the place had amazing food. The place was owned and run by an "acquaintance" Tyler had from his military service. The cook and owner was Tyler's SOLAS trainer. The guy had been hard on Tyler but had been decent outside of training. And with the relationship they had, Tyler would get the friendship rate and would be fitted in. "Tell me where to meet you tomorrow," Tyler commented, "then I will come and pick you up. I'll come by around quarter to five and take us to the place I have in mind. I would recommend dressing up a bit, the place isn't the fanciest, but it makes a good statement to the owner."
Athrun didn't know where Tyler had in mind for "dinner," but he seemed to have a plan of some sort. Tyler always seemed to have a plan to get things done normally in the way he wanted somehow. Athrun had learned it was better to trust Tyler and his plans since they had a real knack of working out rather than question them. How Tyler could manage to come up with plans and get them to work as he did consistently, Athrun couldn't say. "Sure, I'll wear something nice," Athrun stated. "You can meet me at the entrance of the noncommercial docking area where the Minerva is being worked on."
Tyler knew of the docking area that Athrun was referring to. He'd kind of figured that would be the likely place to meet Athrun. Tyler had looked up where the Minerva had come into dock when it had arrived from the operation it had participated in. It had more been for Athrun so Tyler could assist him in the assignment he was on than anything else. Yet, the meeting spot wouldn't be that far out of the way to the restaurant by Tyler's estimation. "Sounds like a plan," Tyler replied. "The meal will be a kind of sendoff from me. I guarantee you will enjoy it since the place has food that is so good it should be either five-star rating, or just criminal to be so good. Anyway, I'll see you in around an hour and bring your bag with me, so you don't have to swing by my place later."
The call ended after that, and Athrun began looking through what he had with clothes that could be considered somewhat dressy. Athrun had some more formal clothes, Cagalli had made sure he had some outfits that would fall under that. He couldn't forget the times that Cagalli had taken him out "clothes" shopping to get him more formal wear. Athrun had tolerated the experiences more out of love for Cagalli than anything else. With the clothes Athrun had eventually gotten, she had said he looked great in them. Athrun didn't like formal clothes as they weren't comfortable to be in for long periods. It gave a partial view to Athrun why Tyler could have something against wearing formalwear. Yet, Athrun did find one of the dress shirts Cagalli had gotten for him and formal slacks to wear.
The next evening, Athrun began making his way toward the airlock the dock gangway was linked to. However, along the way, Athrun happened to spot a group along the way chatting about something. Athrun paused for a moment after spotting them, he realized the group had the three younger pilots the Minerva had along with Miss Lakeen in it. From what Athrun was overhearing, the four were discussing going into Shira for something shortly. What they were doing wasn't Athrun's business any more than the ship's officers. They likely had shore leave much as Athrun did until tomorrow morning. It wasn't unheard of or even unexpected for the pilots on a ZAFT vessel to do things together during shore leave. Athrun continued on toward the gangway so he could exit the Minerva and meet up with Tyler.
As Athrun was heading off and passed the group of pilots, Aila was listening to Shinn. Shinn had chosen a "restaurant" for her to take him, Rey, and Lunamaria out to eat at tonight. From what Aila was hearing, Shinn had done some research on the place he had chosen, which she applauded. Aila wasn't going to back down from her word that she would give Shinn a reward for his performance during the last operation. The place Shinn had chosen sounded like it wouldn't be the cheapest, but she couldn't say beyond that. By what Shinn said, the place was supposed to be one of the more popular restaurants around Shira from what he'd found. He'd even had to make reservations for the place which said the claim of popularity was likely true. Aila had no issue taking the three out to dinner, that was fine. It was the expense and other potential issue that could come up which worried her. ZAFT pilots didn't get paid a huge salary for what they did, though it wasn't small. But high-end restaurants for four had a high price tag which could take a real bite out of said salary. And then, Shinn had said little about what the restaurant served other than it was supposed to have amazing food according to reviews. It wasn't that she felt Shinn's research was incomplete, it just didn't give a lot of details to go on.
Luna still didn't know quite what to think about Shinn roping her into the reward he was getting from Aila. She was happy to go out and spend time with Shinn, she wouldn't deny that, though she wouldn't admit that to Shinn either. So, Luna hadn't complained or say much when Shinn had pulled her and Rey into this "dinner" reward. The way he'd described the place he had in mind, Luna had an array of thoughts in response. The place sounded neat, the reviews that Shinn repeated made it seem like an amazing restaurant to eat at. However, with how popular it sounded like the place was, Luna didn't imagine the meals were cheap. Luna didn't want Aila to have to pay a lot for them when it came to this reward dinner. Yet, Shinn had clearly done work to find the restaurant for them to eat at, so Luna didn't want that to be wasted either. The whole situation was making Luna feel conflicted and she didn't know what to think about it all.
In the end, Aila accepted Shinn's demand for the reward she was to give him. He had clearly gone through the work and Aila would not deny Shinn after the research he'd done. Aila just asked the three to give her a moment to tell Matt of what the plan was, so he was aware. Since Matt was the pilot who would stay on the ship, it was only right that he knew what was going on. From what Matt had already told her, Athrun had something in the evening to attend. There had been no details as to what Athrun was going to, but it wasn't their business anyway. So, Aila went and informed Matt of what the plan for her group was going to do. Aila returned to the three teens, and they then headed out from the Minerva to the place Shinn had found.
Back with Athrun, he descended the gangway and made his way to the docking area's entrance so he could meet with Tyler. He assumed that Tyler would be driving his "unique" car which stood out from other general vehicles. Tyler did so love to drive the car, especially if he got the opportunity to drift. Athrun didn't have to wait long for his ride. Shortly after he got in view of the dockyard gates, he saw them opening and letting Tyler's car in. The car came to be close to Athrun with the passenger side facing him. Athrun moved forward and opened the car door before stepping back to allow the door to come out and swing up. Athrun slid into the car pulling the door back down, so it was closed. He glanced over to Tyler to see he was wearing a nice, collared shirt that was almost a dress shirt. His friend was also in pants similar to what Athrun was in, non-dress pants but nice-looking ones, nonetheless. "Hey Tyler, good to see you," Athrun greeted his friend. "You're in some of the nicer clothes I've seen you in."
Tyler glanced over Athrun seeing his friend was in more than semi-casual but not entirely formal attire. He could only assume that Cagalli had taken Athrun out shopping for more "formal looking" clothing at some point. It wouldn't be surprising to Tyler if the girl that his friend had an "interest" in had been convincing Athrun to dress more as she liked. Tyler would only question if Cagalli had done that intentionally, or if she had just done so for Athrun's bodyguard duties in certain settings. So, Tyler smiled and nodded, "Like I said, dressing nice is more a compliment to the restaurant's owner." Tyler paused for a moment, "I can only assume that Cagalli was the one who had you shop for the nicer clothes you have." Athrun laughed at the comment, "Something like that."
At the same time, Aila and the three teens had exited the Minerva. Rey had gone off to find a vehicle for them to use to get to the restaurant. Aila had turned back to Shinn and Lunamaria to tell them it shouldn't be long before Rey returned. However, her attention was drawn to Lunamaria who was gaping and pointing at something. Aila glanced in the direction Luna was pointing and found an odd sight indeed. There was a very unique looking car close to the entrance of the docking area. The car model wasn't one that Aila had ever seen but its design strongly suggested it was meant for speed and the like. It certainly looked like a luxury vehicle from what Aila was seeing. Yet, Athrun was also beside the car as the three watched. Athrun was also in a more than semi-casual outfit than Aila had ever seen the guy in.
Athrun then opened the car door and got into the vehicle before closing the door behind him. For Athrun to get into a strange looking car was odd enough to witness for the three Minerva pilots. Aila could only assume that the driver was someone that Athrun knew in some way. Matt had said that Athrun was going to be going somewhere that evening, so would be picked up by someone. The "meeting" whatever it was could and likely did explain why Athrun was dressed as he was. It definitely got Aila curious what kind of meeting Athrun could be going to around Shira. It may not be her business to know, but that didn't stop her from wondering. Aila turned back to the two teens, "There something wrong with that," she asked Lunamaria.
Lunamaria had recognized the guy after a bit of looking at him. He'd been one of the two with that "Federation Representative," which had come onto the Minerva during the attack on Armory One. She hadn't thought to see either guy again or really hadn't wanted to see them again if she had a choice. But for one of them to pop up around the Minerva again felt suspicious to Luna. Sure, she'd heard rumors that the ship had gained a pilot earlier that day, but she hadn't seen them yet. Luna frowned at seeing the guy, "What is that guy doing around here," she growled. "I don't like him being around the Minerva again."
Aila may not know what Lunamaria was talking about, but it sounded like she'd met Athrun, and that meeting hadn't gone well. Regardless of what could've happened, Lunamaria would show Athrun an amount of respect going forward. He would be the Minerva's field team leader in future battles and operations. Neither Matt nor Aila had an issue with Athrun taking the lead of the Minerva's field operations. He had unique experience with his service at the frontlines during the Alliance-PLANT War that neither of them had. Luna was starting to come to terms with the fact that Matt had more experience than her and she should listen to him as she would Aila. She would do the same if not better with Athrun by paying him the respect he was due. "Whether you care for him or not, Lunamaria," Aila began with a firm tone. "You will pay Mr. Zala a proper amount of respect and listen to what he says and follow his orders when given. Do you understand?"
Luna blinked at what Aila had said since it didn't make sense to her. Aila had said Zala which could only relate to the war hero Athrun Zala. But the guy had said he was just the representative's "bodyguard" the last time she'd seen him. If the guy was really the war hero Athrun Zala, then Luna would apologize for her behavior the last time. He was a legend in ZAFT that so many wanted to meet but never got the chance to. The last sentence that Aila had given was also a reminder of Luna snapping at Mr. Dems previously. Luna had apologized to Mr. Dems already and she was trying to do better at listening to him. However, Luna wanted to confirm what she was taking away from what Aila said. "Wait, you're saying that the guy we just saw is the Athrun Zala, like in the war hero?"
Aila had figured that Athrun wasn't interested in using the reputation he had from his service. He'd made that clear with Matt and her when he insisted on calling him by his first name and not by rank and last name. And with him assigned to the Minerva going forward, Aila doubted he wanted to be fawned over by those on the ship. She could respect that wish and would tell the younger pilots to not make a big deal about Athrun on the Minerva. "Yes, that would be Athrun Zala," Aila admitted. "He had been assigned to the Minerva and will be the team lead during field operations. Thus, you are to show respect and listen to advice and take orders from him as you would me."
Back with Tyler and Athrun, Tyler drove them out of the docking area and onto the main road. The drive was a short one from the docking area to the place Tyler had mentioned. But along the way, the two engaged in some small talk though nothing of importance. Yet, the conversation was suspended when Tyler parked his car behind the restaurant. The two exited the car and made their way into the restaurant. The moment that they had entered the building, Athrun could see that the place was busy. Business was clearly booming and the delicious smells in the air certainly gave a reason as to why. Athrun couldn't help but wonder how Tyler could have found this place. If his friend knew those that ran the restaurant, then he could only be curious as to how that could be.
Tyler had moved forward to the welcome counter so he could talk with one of the servers the restaurant had working for it. He struck up a conversation with the server at the counter and identified himself and said he was a friend of the owner. The server was one of those Tyler had talked to before, so they didn't question him saying he knew the owner. Tyler said he had a friend with him that he wanted to have a great "send-off" dinner and the restaurant would do amazing at that. The server bowed and told Tyler they would get a table ready if he waited for a few minutes. Tyler agreed to the short wait and went back to Athrun and informed him of what he'd arranged. The two waited for the server to return so they could be led to the table being prepared for him.
After a few minutes, the two were guided to a table and given menus to look over so they could order their meals. Athrun glanced over the menu to see what the restaurant that Tyler had insisted upon coming to served. He saw that the general food was pasta was the base for most dishes served. Many of the dishes looked quite interesting and good from the descriptions Athrun read. However, Athrun's question on how Tyler could know of this place and have some sort of connection came back to his mind. Athrun couldn't come up with a potential explanation that made sense to him so far. "So, Tyler, forgive me if the question seems odd," Athrun began. "But how do you have connections at a busy place like this?"
Tyler didn't blame his friend for the question, it was a valid one. He had no relation to the food industry nor knew those in it really. If not for the owner of the restaurant being a retired military man, there would be even less of a chance for Tyler to know them. Tyler had made many of the "unexpected" and "odd" connections he had through those he met and worked with during his military service. He'd never thought he would get to know those he did in the Federation's Military. However, Tyler was glad to have met those he had worked with during his service. So, Tyler hummed, "Well, the owner and head cook here is a retiree of the Federation's military. He also happened to be a special forces trainer which had the fortune or misfortune depending on one's perspective of having me as a trainee." Tyler paused for a moment, "I think it more depended on the day, but that's another matter. The guy managed to tolerate me enough for me to see he's a decent guy and a damn fine chef."
Tyler stopped for a moment recalling the conversations that he'd had with his trainer. It had been one of the "life lessons" talks that Tyler had gotten unknowingly. That lesson was on pursuing dreams and putting in the work even when it seemed like it wasn't helping that pursuit. Tyler had taken to heart the things which his trainer had said to him. It had shaped Tyler's mentality that it was as important to bring back as many people as possible during an operation as attaining an operation's goal. "He told me a few times that he dreamed of owning a restaurant and cooking good food with his family," Tyler continued, "And he's living his dream these days." Tyler would've said more as he was glancing over the menu, thinking what to order. He had his usual order he had when he came around the restaurant. However, Tyler then saw the "special" the menu had, and he stopped. The special was a dish called Tonkotsu Ramen which was one Tyler had previously. The dish was a taste of heaven to him, and he'd been disappointed when he'd seen it taken off the menu. But it seemed it was back, and Tyler couldn't be happier about that good fortune. Thus, Tyler gasped, "The Tonkotsu Ramen has finally been brought back, awesome!" Then Tyler lowered his menu to look at Athrun, "The Tonkotsu Ramen here is a taste of heaven, believe me!"
Athrun could see the genuine excitement Tyler was showing about the dish he was referring to. He'd found Tyler wasn't one to show a great deal of emotion around most. Tyler would do more somewhat around his friends and family. Athrun knew that Tyler tended to be a more serious type of individual. Yet, his friend seemed far more approachable when he showed more emotion in Athrun's opinion. As for the dish Tyler was "raving" about, he was making it sound like quite a meal to try. Athrun snickered, "I'll take your word for it."
As the two friends were talking and looking at what to order, Aila and the three teens had gotten through the line and to the front counter. The line had stretched for a surprising distance from the restaurant door. And when they had gotten inside the place, one glance around told Aila the restaurant was packed. It showed that Shinn's research had been correct that the place was quite popular. That made Aila wonder how difficult it could've been for Shinn to get reservations for the current evening. Not to say the smells that Aila was getting didn't give a good impression as to why the place could be so popular. The food smelled amazing from what Aila could tell, so she couldn't exactly complain about Shinn's choice just yet.
Shinn went to the front counter and said that he'd made a reservation. The server looked up the name "Asuka" and found there was a reservation under the name for four. So, the group was led to a table which was open and ready. As they were being led to the table, Lunamaria was really beginning to look forward to the dinner they would have here. The scents alone floating in the air were freaking amazing to her, definitely better than any of the food the Minerva had for the crew. Luna hadn't a clue how Shinn had found this place with the "research" he'd been doing along the way to Shira. Yet, she would thank Shinn later for inviting her and Rey for this when Aila wasn't around. She felt kind of bad that Shinn was making Aila pay for the bill for dinner. Luna recalled Shinn saying something to the effect of the place he'd found was highly rated for the food it served. Places like those which Luna had heard about or knew of tended not to be cheap when it came to price. Still, Lunamaria wouldn't complain about this dinner Shinn had brought her and Rey along on. The trip/outing would give them a taste of Shira's nightlife. The journey to the restaurant had already given quite a view of Shira's nightlife and it was really different to anything Luna had seen around the PLANTs.
The four were shown to a table and given menus so they could look over what they would like to order. The server said they would be back in a bit to get orders for their drinks, and they could take their time to decide to order for their meal. The three younger teens picked up their menus and opened them. Luna and Shinn quickly began chatting about what food was listed while Rey was nodding to what they were saying. Aila opened the menu and glanced it over to see what the place served. From what Aila could see, most of the dishes on the menu had pasta as the base and different proteins with them. The dish descriptions that she skimmed over made them sound interesting and good. Most of them were dishes that Aila had never had personally. Yet, with how packed the place was, it strongly said the food was good.
However, there was one point that Aila noticed which she wasn't as happy with, and that was the pricing. The average pricing of the dishes wasn't cheap or even moderately priced. The bill that Aila would pay for all four of them would be over a hundred-fifty credits, closer to two hundred when the credits were exchanged for the Republic's current currency rate. But Aila had promised Shinn she would give him a reward for pulling off the tunnel run and taking down the Alliance's Lohengrin Gate. She couldn't help but wonder if Shinn was somehow using this to get her back for having him do the task. Aila wouldn't have minded if she and Matt were here having dinner, but that wasn't possible right now. Maybe in the next port the two of them could have a dinner date, Aila would like that.
Back with Athrun and Tyler, Tyler ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. Upon Tyler's insistence that Athrun should try the dish and that he wouldn't regret it, Athrun ordered it too. When it came to drinks Athrun was going to order one of the specialty juices on the menu. However, Tyler stopped him saying that ordering drinks from just anywhere on the menu was a risky thing to do. When Athrun asked his friend why that would be, Tyler leaned over and signaled Athrun to do the same. Athrun did as gestured to, and Tyler whispered that drinks not of the "family" section for drinks could be "spiked." When Athrun gave Tyler a curious expression, Tyler gave details that alcohol could "find" its way into non-family drinks. Tyler said something to the effect that drinks at night could have a "hard kick" mixed in to those in their late teens or older. It was an unsaid "thing" which happened in Shira apparently. Tyler mentioned that his mother had warned him when he'd turned fifteen about the "tradition" which occurred.
With Tyler's warning about being careful in selecting his drinks for the meal, Athrun felt it was wise to take his friend seriously. Tyler didn't give out warnings without reason, especially not to friends and family from what Athrun had found. And Athrun hadn't felt inclined to sample alcohol, mostly since he was under the international age that it was seen wise to do such. Laws forbidding the consumption of alcohol have faded into history and become more the responsibility of the parents to see to and recommendations of drinking alcohol at twenty-one or older. So, Athrun followed Tyler's example and ordered off the family section of the drink menu. Once they had placed their orders and their drinks were brought to the table Athrun began considering where to start the chat he'd asked for.
There were a few things that Athrun wanted to talk about while there was a chance to freely speak with Tyler. The Alliance's attack on Asgard was more than bold, and the action wasn't something that OMNI had been inclined to go with before they had. That suggested there was some sort of real change or factor there hadn't been during the Alliance-PLANT War. Were that true, that would be extremely worrisome and would cause complications. "What does the Federation know of the change in the Alliance's behavior," Athrun asked. "It's been nagging at me since you told me about the attack on the Asgard Base. The sudden and radical change doesn't fit what has been observed that I can figure."
The question was a valid one, but also very complicated by what Tyler had understood. The best that Tyler knew was the point was still being looked into for solid evidence that could show what was suspected. The current suspicion the Federation had for the Alliance was there was some group influencing or running it from the shadows. The issue was nothing could be connected to the group to identify them or even show they had influence on the Alliance. From what some of Tyler's colleagues had told him, SOLAS agents were currently trying to gather information on the group. The Intelligence Agency was also working on getting data on the group that was running the Alliance.
Tyler would admit that the group, whoever they were, was more than good at covering their tracks. He'd seen groups that would try to cover up what they did and not let connections to others be seen. But this one that seemed to be running the Alliance these days was better than any Tyler had seen. The meticulous work of covering their tracks this group had been doing was quite impressive, even Tyler had to admit that. He didn't like that point but there was nothing which could be done for the moment until they were identified. Yet, all of that was difficult to put into words for his friend. So, Tyler didn't answer right away as he had to organize his thoughts so he could properly answer the question. "That question is a complicated one, my friend," Tyler remarked. "And frankly, at this time there isn't a definitive answer to."
Athrun had been hoping for something other than what Tyler had given in response. If the Federation was looking into who could be behind the Alliance's recent actions and didn't have a great deal on whoever it was, that wasn't comforting. The Federation was known to be extremely good at acquiring information that others couldn't. For a group to be able to hide from the methods the Federation used to look into things concerning Athrun. The implications that came from the Federation having like been and still looking into those influencing the Alliance were worrisome. "Is there any hint as to who or what could've changed the Alliance's behavior at least," Athrun asked. "Things don't change for no reason."
There were plenty of hints that a group was influencing the Alliance if not pushing them to do what they were. The issue with the point was there wasn't any solid evidence to say who it was or what their goals were exactly. There was circumstantial evidence from informants the network had, but that was the best there was right now. Thus, Tyler sighed, "Oh, there are hints, just nothing solid as far as I've understood. SOLAS and the Intelligence Agency have been working in cooperation to try and identify who is helping the Alliance. Their funding increased more than expected in the last year or so. There is more suspected and assumed about the group helping the Alliance than confirmed fact."
Tyler paused as he didn't like to admit the group influencing the Alliance was evading the Federation investigating them. It was very worrisome that this group had not just managed to escape responsibility for what they were having the Alliance do but were still doing that. And from what some of Tyler's colleagues had told him, the group was meticulous in cleaning up and not leaving evidence that could be traced back to them. The point was worse than the usual operational style that Phantom Pain used. "Perhaps that's what really worries me about the group," Tyler commented. "The Federation has been investigating them and yet, they have managed to evade being found out in anything besides vague references. Their goals are unknown beyond wanting something from the war that has been started. This group has shown they are scarily good at operating from the shadows. They seem to use intermediaries between them and others, so they don't dirty their hands or be involved directly."
The things that Tyler was saying about the "group" heavily involved the Alliance's recent actions weren't comforting. And it wasn't that Athrun didn't believe Tyler, he certainly did as his friend tended to be right and know what was generally happening. It was more the Federation had found enough evidence to say there was a group that was influencing the Alliance but couldn't identify them which was concerning. The Federation was beyond good at finding out things, they had the best intelligence agency of the three factions. So, for a group to be able to evade the Federation's intelligence network was worrisome. There was no ZAFT intel that Athrun knew of which suggested there was a group influencing the Alliance. "This group sounds like bad news," Athrun remarked. "But that would make more sense than the Alliance just suddenly attacking and starting another war."
While Athrun's question on those that were influencing the Alliance was a valid one, there was no good answer at the moment. There was something else that Tyler wanted to bring up which had come to his attention earlier that day. It was more that Tyler wanted to warn Athrun of something ahead. Tyler couldn't call himself a good friend if he let Athrun walk into something dangerous that he knew about and not say something beforehand. That was the kind of person Tyler was when it came to friends. And with Athrun being with the Minerva, they would be affected as much as Athrun would be. As Tyler had seen, the Minerva's crew were good people none of which deserved to potentially die.
ZAFT intel unlikely had caught up with the latest movements of the Alliance as the Federation had. There was an OMNI fleet of moderate size between Shira and Carpentaria on the likely path the Minerva would take. They were in what was supposed to be international waters a short distance from Federation territory. Because of that, the Federation's Military forces were unable to do anything actively about the OMNI force for the time being. From what Tyler had read, he felt the fleet was waiting for ZAFT forces, or rather the Minerva were he to guess. Were that the case, OMNI really wanted to sink the ship if they were willing to divert forces for one enemy ship. Not that it would be unheard of as the Archangel had gotten similar treatment by ZAFT during the Alliance-PLANT War. And like the Archangel, this would involve a friend of Tyler's which made it something he would pay attention to. He couldn't directly get involved due to the Federation's position, but that didn't mean Tyler couldn't do anything to help.
Tyler could tell Athrun about what was ahead if he couldn't get the opportunity to get the message to Captain Gladys. He would rather tell the woman commanding the Minerva directly if he could pull it off and not have there be evidence the Alliance could potentially use to say the Federation was assisting ZAFT. Yet because the Minerva was being scrutinized and watched by the Alliance along with its crew, talking to them directly was more difficult without it being noticed. Thus, telling Athrun who was newly assigned to the ship was the best option to get the needed info across and the Alliance not point fingers so easily. "There is one thing I do want to bring up with you while we are talking, Athrun," Tyler began. "And I ask that should you tell this to others, you don't mention where it exactly came from. I'll explain why I say that in a moment but let me get to what I want to tell you first."
Athrun was curious and worried about what Tyler could want to tell him with how he worded his statements. They had been carefully worded to say that whatever was to come was potentially problematic in some way, shape, or form. Tyler wasn't one to waste words or play things up or down when telling others about something. He was blunt and to the point when a situation was seen as serious by him. And Tyler's judgment was one that was usually on the money with whether something was serious or not. "You're not making me feel good about what it is you have to tell me Tye," Athrun replied. "But what is it that you want to tell or rather I feel warn me about?"
Tyler hadn't doubted that Athrun would get the implications that Tyler had been laying out with his tone and statements. He knew his friend wasn't stupid about picking up on implied inference, nor was he naïve as Kira was, which Tyler was thankful for. "I assure you, I would rather be saying things to make you feel good. But I also want you to not go headlong into something that could threaten you and say nothing about it either." Tyler paused for a moment gathering his thoughts before he continued. "Correct me should I be wrong, but the Minerva intends to head to Carpentaria from here when it departs tomorrow."
It was Athrun's understanding the Minerva would be departing tomorrow morning and would be heading to Carpentaria. That was an expectation after the operation it had participated in so it could get work done on it and receive new orders. The trip to Carpentaria would be through international waters that bordered the Federation's Equatorial Union's territory. The route should be clear and the journey uneventful since it had been with the territorial lines as they were. However, Athrun felt that the said journey would be anything but clear and uneventful by Tyler bringing the point up. Yet, he nodded, "That is my understanding of the general plan for the Minerva at this time," Athrun replied. "I take it that something about the journey isn't as it would be expected to be?"
Tyler was glad his friend was catching on that what Tyler had to tell him things were ahead that wouldn't be nice. He would've said more, but the meals arrived for them which put the conversation on pause. With the food there, the two tucked into the meals silently agreeing to continue the conversation after the meal. The food was amazingly delicious as it smelled, and both ate with gusto. Athrun had to admit that the ramen was the best he had ever had in his life, Tyler hadn't been joking when he had said that the ramen was a taste of heaven!
After both had gotten a good taste of the food, Tyler's thoughts returned to what he'd been about to tell Athrun. It had sounded like Athrun would be more accepting of the information that he would be told about. And with the Alliance lying in wait for the Minerva and some of the data informants had given, there was a trap ahead of the ZAFT ship. "You would be right," Tyler stated. "The route the Minerva will likely be taking has an OMNI fleet in international waters between Shira and Carpentaria. Their positioning just outside the main shipping lane makes it so the Federation can't call them out for squatting to do stupid things." Tyler shrugged with a frown, "It's a really annoying thing the Alliance has taken up doing which can be considered standing at or on the line of breaking laws but not going over it."
Athrun didn't like what Tyler was saying, but he didn't doubt the information was true. For an OMNI fleet to be set to wait for ships to come by and attack them if they chose to was worrisome. There had been nothing from ZAFT intel that had suggested that point that Athrun knew of. And that the Alliance was sitting just outside of the main shipping lane did lend credence to what Tyler said. OMNI was toeing the line of breaking the law as blocking international shipping lanes without a solid and valid reason was illegal. It was sounding more like some sort of blockade against ZAFT's Carpentaria if Athrun were to give his opinion. But what mission OMNI's fleet had didn't matter in the end really, their position was the issue for the Minerva as it would be for any ZAFT ship. "OMNI positioning a fleet by the international shipping lane is a problem," Athrun remarked. "And I would be shocked if they would let the Minerva pass them to go to Carpentaria."
The day OMNI let a ZAFT ship pass a group or fleet of theirs would be the day they would also admit their hatred of Coordinators was wrong. Tyler didn't buy the Alliance's claim of their OMNI fleet being by the shipping lane was for its defense. They were waiting to intercept ships they didn't like and do what they wanted. There was no evidence, yet that OMNI had done more than inspect some ships before letting them pass. And all of this was before taking into account what some of the informants have said about this OMNI fleet. Yet, Tyler kept going, "I wouldn't disagree with you. OMNI would be having a serious off day if they let the Minerva pass them without doing something nasty to it."
Tyler stopped as the other things he'd read from the Information Network about the OMNI fleet. That things reported about it were concerning beyond just the fleet being where it was and make up. There was one piece of information that Tyler was very concerned about which was why he was telling Athrun about this in the first place. "But to my point for telling you about this," Tyler iterated. "With how foolish the Alliance is these days, it would be best if this information is not seen coming from me or the Federation. They are more than willing to point fingers for nonsense they can, so they are able to play the victim."
Athrun had seen a little of what Tyler was talking about, but more heard about it happening. However, for Tyler to be giving information which the Alliance would no doubt be against being given to those on the Minerva wasn't a good sign. He was almost afraid to ask Tyler what info he could have which the Alliance didn't want the Minerva to know about at this point. Yet, Athrun didn't doubt that the information would be helpful in some way for the Minerva bad as it could be. With that in mind, Athrun exhaled heavily, "I can only assume that whatever data you have is some sort of warning for the Minerva, you would like me to get to them, correct?"
Tyler didn't like giving his friends non-nice news or information, but he would when it would help them somehow. And with the mention of the fleet having "special equipment," Tyler was more than concerned. The fleet was supposed to have at least three carriers with them which would have mobile suits with them and outnumber what the Minerva had to work with. The mention of special equipment told Tyler that the fleet had some custom model suits or perhaps a new mobile armor to employ. That wouldn't be as much of an issue if not for the Alliance having developed some dangerous technologies in the last year from reports. So, Tyler nodded, "Something like that, yes," Tyler returned. "From what data has come in from network informants, the fleet which the Minerva will encounter won't be a nice issue to deal with. It has at least three carriers in it, maybe more and I would assume smaller support vessels equal to the number of carriers plus one as well if not more. That will have the Minerva outnumbered in combat regardless of which end of the scale the numbers are on. That would be concerning in my mind, but not something the Minerva couldn't deal with from what the ship has shown itself to be capable of. However, there has been mention of "special equipment" the fleet has to work with which does raise a potential red flag to me."
Tyler mentioning "special equipment" instantly had Athrun paying sharper attention to what his friend was saying. Special equipment could mean/refer to several things that the Alliance could be using. From what Athrun had been told already, the Minerva had already gone against a "new" mobile armor during the last operation. But without more detail, Athrun was worried what the Minerva could be facing ahead when they went against the OMNI fleet. "When you say special equipment," Athrun stated carefully, "do you have details that could say what it is? I'm concerned as you are with special equipment is mentioned like you are. And with the Minerva facing off against a mobile armor which hasn't been seen before in the operation it participated in, I'm even more worries."
Athrun saying the Minerva had faced off against a new OMNI mobile armor was troubling. It meant the reports of Alliance R&D had been cranking out what they could as fast as possible. Tyler was inclined to believe the OMNI fleet had some sort of new model mobile armor if he was to make an educated guess. With what the Alliance had been "developing" those machines could have dangerous options to use against their opponents. Tyler sighed, "I wish I had specific details to give on this," he admitted. "Yet, the informants haven't been able to acquire such. But I would guess that the special equipment is likely a new model mobile armor of some sort. It could be the same model OMNI used against the Minerva, though I kind of doubt that with combat over water. However, if OMNI is confident said equipment will give them a real advantage over ZAFT forces that are in the shipping lane, then I would say it shouldn't be taken lightly."
Athrun was concerned about what Tyler was saying the Alliance had prepared for the Minerva when they traveled to Carpentaria. Yet, knowing that such was ahead did give the opportunity to prepare some countermeasures for it. That in itself was helpful and Athrun would be grateful to Tyler for the information. "Well," Athrun started, "That you are giving the information to me will be helpful. I will get it to the Minerva's captain so she can help prepare the ship for what could be ahead. Better to know when there will be problems ahead than to be blind to them."
Tyler smiled at the real wisdom that Athrun had just said. It was better to know that there was trouble ahead and prepare than to be taken by surprise by it. "That's why I wanted to tell you so that you knew what was ahead. I couldn't stand by and just let you go off into an OMNI trap and have to deal with it." Tyler shrugged, "While I can pull off "flying by the seat of the pants," as the old phrase goes than most do, I don't recommend doing it often. It really hits the stress levels hard and that is difficult to handle just being reactionary on a regular basis." Tyler sighed, "I swear that you and I may be kept busy, but the exchange doesn't always feel like it's worth the effort we put into it."
Athrun wouldn't disagree with Tyler's assessment of the two of them staying busy. They were working with military forces to mitigate the effects of the war the Alliance started. The Federation was already working hard by what Athrun had seen to curtail the Alliance's goals. ZAFT was doing much the same with Durandal at its helm. Athrun hoped that the two factions working toward the same goal could get the result that the two wanted. That was the motivation that Athrun had which had led him to rejoin ZAFT and work with them. Athrun cracked a smile in response to Tyler's statements, "We certainly are good at keeping busy, aren't we Tye?"
Athrun's question brought Kira to Tyler's mind. Their other friend wasn't directly involved in the war that had started recently and likely wouldn't be until pushed. Instead, Kira was looking after kids at the orphanage which most wouldn't be seen as much of a job. Not to say Kira's chosen life wasn't without its benefits that could be seen by others. He got to spend his days with the girl who loved him and that alone was a perk, not that Kira seemed to see the point. No, Tyler knew his friend's cursed naïveté was still as irritatingly as healthy as ever and stunting his growth. So, Tyler snickered the question, "I'd say we do tend to yes. All that's missing right now is Kira telling us of his quiet life looking after kids with Lacus." Tyler shrugged, "But then, our friend still lives with his ongoing naiveté, so is his bane and Lacus' frustration."
Athrun had to hold in the laughter at Tyler mentioning Kira. It wasn't that Athrun didn't miss Kira's company and views of the world. Kira was and always would be the eternal optimist as far as Athrun was concerned. The world would be a darker place if that changed with him, and Athrun hoped to never see that day. That was one of the few good things that seemed to come from Kira's naïveté, his optimism. However, Athrun couldn't help but wonder if Lacus would have any more luck than they had to help Kira move forward from his naïveté. She hadn't had success thus far from anything Athrun had heard. Athrun chuckled and nodded, "Yes, I wonder as you do, if Kira will ever fully shed his naïveté. I haven't seen much progress with him though I wouldn't doubt Lacus has been trying on the point."
The subject of Kira's naïveté was one that Tyler both cursed and faced as a challenge at the same time. He'd learned of it shortly after meeting Kira and had quickly begun cursing it after finding how powerful it was and what it did to his friend. Tyler had done everything he could think of to help Kira get over his naïveté over the years of their friendship. And yet, nothing that Tyler had done had helped Kira shed his naïveté much to his frustration and chagrin. Athrun hadn't had any more luck than Tyler when it came to Kira's naïveté. And Tyler unfortunately doubted Lacus would have any more luck than they had with Kira. He would love to be proven wrong about that assumption, but he wouldn't hold his breath. Still, Tyler gained an expression that was a mix of mirth and care, "I hoped that Lacus could help Kira in a way we couldn't, but yeah, there hasn't been any sign of that yet." Tyler sighed, "We can continue to hope and pray for our other best friend Athrun, that's the best I've come up with these days." The two finished their food shortly after that before he paid the check for them both and they rose to exit the restaurant.
As the two exited the restaurant, Tyler glanced to his right and couldn't stop the smirk that came to his face. There was still a line for the restaurant that went down to the end of the block. It said that business was doing amazing for Tyler's old trainer, and he was glad that was the case. While his trainer had put Tyler through a grueling time, he was glad the man was living the dream he'd mentioned to Tyler. And with the food cooked at the restaurant, it was no shock of there being a crowd wanting to partake of it in Tyler's mind. He always gave an outstanding review whenever he came to eat at the place to help business. And it had been great to share the fun with Athrun before he shipped out with the Minerva.
Nonetheless, it was about a minute after Tyler and Athrun stepped out of the restaurant that things changed. Tyler felt an all too hauntingly familiar shiver run down his spine which was the last thing he wanted to come right now. The shiver was one of the warning signs that Tyler got when Sakura was getting close to him. And Sakura popping up right now was the last thing Tyler needed or wanted to deal with. But his stalker had never shown she cared what he thought of her "surprise" visits. Honestly, Tyler was kind of surprised that Sakura hadn't popped up already with the down time he'd been experiencing. The woman had a real knack knowing when he was on assignment or not and taking advantage of it. Yet, with the shiver that Tyler had gotten, he had a little time to try and get away from Sakura. He could lock his house down in the attempt to have peace for the night and Tyler fully intended to do just that. However, that would require leaving Athrun here to find his own way back to the Minerva. Tyler didn't want to leave his friend hanging if he didn't have to, but his situation was already going in a direction he didn't want it to.
Athrun noticed Tyler stopping suddenly and having a barely seeable shiver go through him. Tyler wasn't one to stop suddenly for no reason, no with how calm he tended to be while under pressure. So, Athrun could only wonder what had set Tyler off and put him on edge as Athrun was seeing at the moment. He glanced side to side trying to find something that could play into the sudden change in Tyler. There was a line of people that were waiting to get into the restaurant, but there was nothing else that Athrun could see to explain Tyler's behavior. "Tyler, you okay," Athrun asked, "You're not one to suddenly be on edge or jumpy without reason."
Tyler was conflicted with leaving Athrun, but he didn't want to have to just accept dealing with Sakura tonight. He hoped that Athrun would understand he wasn't ditching him out of the blue as it could appear. No, Tyler was trying to get away from his stalker and have peace and Athrun should be able to forgive Tyler for that. So, Tyler turned to Athrun, a growing expression of panic and sad acceptance at what was ahead of him. Escaping Sakura was never easy, regardless of whether he managed to slip away from her or not by the end. "Athrun, I'm sorry to uh," Tyler hesitated, "cut out and run without warning my friend. But um, the change in circumstances require me doing so." Tyler shuttered before he continued, "I hope you understand."
The expression on Tyler's face had given the hint to Athrun that something Tyler was aware of was coming up. But it was the shutter that tipped off Athrun what it was that set off Tyler to be acting as he was. The shutter was one Athrun had seen a few times over the year since the Alliance-PLANT War had ended. It was one of the few warning signs that Tyler got before Commander Clyne would appear around him. From what Tyler had said and Athrun had seen, Commander Clyne's "different" behavior which came up around Tyler hadn't changed other than becoming more pronounced. His friend seemed to suffer when Commander Clyne came around and Athrun could only feel sorry for Tyler. So, Athrun didn't hold it against Tyler that he felt the need to leave him and run. In fact, Athrun would do what he could to delay Commander Clyne so Tyler would have as much time as possible to do what he could. That would come with consequences, but Athrun would bear those for Tyler. "I understand," Athrun replied. "It's probably better you go before she gets here. I wish you the best of luck at preparing as you can to keep the commander out. I'll cover and delay her for you the best I can."
Tyler would not say that his friends wouldn't do what they could to help him in his times of need, even if they didn't do what they did. Rather, Tyler was grateful to have friends such as Athrun who wouldn't hesitate to step in and up to help him out of things. And in this, Athrun was putting his own neck out for Tyler saying he would delay Sakura. The woman was still as cold as could be to those who weren't her family or Tyler. Athrun would be aware of that and yet, he was still willing to do what he could to delay the woman and face the consequences for doing that. Tyler smiled and nodded, "Athrun, I know I don't say it enough, but I'm grateful for your friendship. You are a true friend to be willing to do that, thanks a million."
Tyler turned and sprinted off to the back parking lot to get to his car. The sooner he got to his house, the quicker he could start locking it down before Sakura caught up to him. He knew the chances of escaping Sakura were low, but there was still a chance, and he would take it and hold on with what he had. He wouldn't accept defeat and let Sakura win without a fight and dragging. Every win she got encouraged her and if he gave it to her, it was worse for him. So, when Tyler reached his car, he wrenched the door open and just about jumped inside. He quickly buckled up and slammed the door shut before starting his car. Tyler threw the car into reverse and put his foot down on the gas. His car jerked back out of the parking spot before Tyler shifted his car into drive. He knew he couldn't floor his car until he was out of sight of the restaurant, or he would be reported for reckless driving.
Athrun heard a brief screech of tires from behind the restaurant. Then a moment later, Athrun saw Tyler's car coming out to the street and turning to the left. Athrun could only imagine that Tyler didn't want to draw attention to himself by just flooring his car and racing off. He didn't doubt his friend would be racing when there was no one watching him on the way to his house. The car turned the corner at the intersection a few blocks down, and shortly after that, Athrun heard a reeving of a car engine. Athrun once again wished Tyler luck as he would need it to manage shaking off Commander Clyne. Sakura Clyne wasn't known for giving up on something she's set her sights on before. Her ZAFT service record was a shining example of the opposite and it had been appearing to be getting stronger over time. Athrun didn't see how that would change with Sakura working with the Federation according to Tyler.
Athrun took a deep breath thinking about how he could do as he told Tyler he would. Commander Clyne's attitude hadn't changed a great deal from what Athrun had been told. She was still ready and willing to hand out punishment when she saw fit. ZAFT soldiers would still shake at the mention of Commander Clyne and her dealing out consequences. Athrun knew that whatever he would face from Commander Clyne wouldn't be pleasant. And that was before he would need to explain to Captain Gladys why he would look tired at the very least tomorrow morning. The commander may have retired, but just saying her name could work, but then he would have to explain why he'd gotten on the woman's bad side. Athrun was brought out of his thoughts when the sound of a motorcycle came to his ears. He turned and saw a motorcycle coming up to where he was. The motorcycle came to a stop right in front of Athrun. The rider glanced at Athrun, but the woman's face was hidden by the visor being down. However, Athrun knew exactly who the rider was.
Sakura had been tracking down Tyler for about half a day now. From what she'd seen, Tyler didn't have any standing orders nor were there any that were going to be handed to him in the immediate future. That was an opportunity for her to get "time" with her beloved. Sakura wanted to snuggle and cuddle with Tyler. She had been missing the time she'd gotten with him and wanted more. And since Tyler had free time to work with, it was the perfect time for Sakura to spend with him. Thus, Sakura had traveled to Shira to search for her beloved so they could have time together. Sakura had gone by and checked Tyler's house but had found him and his car gone when she had gotten there. She had really wanted to show Tyler how she looked in riding leather and see if he liked it.
In short, Sakura hadn't had luck yet, but she had gotten a tip that Athrun Zala happened to be around the city right now as well. Zala would know where Sakura's beloved was even if he would need some convincing to tell her. Sakura had been cruising the streets when she had come upon the restaurant with the line to it. The line wasn't what caught Sakura's attention, but the one who was standing near its entrance. Athrun Zala was there meaning he could point Sakura in the direction of Tyler. So, Sakura pulled up to be in front of Zala and looked his way before she flipped her helmet visor up. "Athrun Zala," Sakura stated in a flat tone, "So, you are around here."
Athrun gulped as he felt the woman's gaze settle on himself. The wary fear of Sakura Clyne still was around for all ZAFT soldiers, Athrun included. The woman still put off an air that was hard not to be wary of and want to steer clear of. Even seeing her outside the military setting, Athrun still felt Commander Clyne didn't like him and so had something against him. That had lessened slightly since Athrun had been around Cagalli. He could only guess that since Athrun had shown he had no interest in Lacus, Sakura would leave him alone somewhat. Athrun could only wonder how Kira dealt with Sakura as the woman wouldn't let another get too close to her sister without her permission. Athrun shook his head and did the best thing he could think of, which was to salute, "You're looking well tonight, Commander Clyne."
Sakura was accustomed to others reacting to her with forms of fear. She had to deal with fools that thought they knew better than she did, so she had become irritated with that. Such had lessened considerably since Sakura started working with the Federation. Those in the Federation's Military seemed much better trained and understood when and how to question orders where enough in ZAFT didn't. Zala was showing some respect by saluting her which Sakura would applaud. And he had given up on Lacus being in a close relationship which had raised Sakura's standing of the man. However, there were more pressing matters for Sakura to see to like spending time with her beloved. So, Sakura glared at Zala, "I'll applaud your show of respect Zala. Seems your behavior has improved with your time around the Federation." Sakura paused for a moment, "But to business, which way did he go? Tell me that Zala, and I'll be on my way and leave you alone this time." Zala didn't say anything for a long moment as Sakura waited for an answer. But it seemed that Zala needed more motivation to do what Sakura wanted which she would give him. "Should you not tell me, then things will become very unpleasant for you. You are among those which understand what happens to those that don't do the right thing when I tell them to."
Athrun knew that delaying Commander Clyne wouldn't be easy for him, not with ZAFT's Black Zephyr. The compliment she'd given him would've been nice if not for the situation Athrun was in. He knew that when he didn't help the woman, he would have to face the consequences she would force on him. But Tyler had done so much for Athrun throughout their friendship which Athrun had never asked for nor expected. It was Athrun's turn to help Tyler in this time of need even when there was a price he would pay for doing so. Athrun took a deep breath before he spoke, "I am truly sorry ma'am, but I will be unable to help you in your pursuit. I was just about to head back to the ship I'm assigned to so I can turn in for the night."
Sakura was taken aback for a moment by Zala's reply. She had figured there was a chance the young man would refuse to help her find her beloved Tyler. However, Sakura had thought if she laid out what could happen to Zala, he would perhaps help her. Yet, with the improvements that Zala had made, Sakura would give him one chance to change his answer. That would be the reward for the improvement she would extend. "Really, Zala," Sakura remarked, "Are you sure that's your answer? I'm feeling a tad generous right now, so I'll give you a chance to change that answer and do what is in your best interest."
Athrun was forced to pause at Commander Clyne's statement. It was rare for the woman to give a chance for any to change their answer to a question from her. Command Clyne wasn't one to be generous often that Athrun knew of. In fact, he'd never seen it himself nor heard of the idea happening from someone that had seen it. That wouldn't change Athrun's answer to the question from Commander Clyne of Tyler's whereabouts. Tyler was his friend and Athrun would do anything for his friend as Tyler would do for him. "As generous an offer that is from you, commander, I respectfully decline," Athrun stated firmly. "I say again, I will be unable to assist you in the pursuit that you are on. That is my final answer, and it won't be changing. So, if you could get to whatever you see as consequences so I can head back to the ship I'm assigned to, ma'am."
Sakura was silent for a long moment at Zala's reply. She would commend the young man for standing up for his friend, it was admirable. It wasn't every day that a soldier from ZAFT could stand up to her and maintain their standing. In fact, it had been a while since there had been any from ZAFT had done so. That wouldn't change what Sakura would do to Zala as consequences for not doing the right thing. Sakura would just make Zala's punishment quicker than she would normally as a show of her appreciation he had stood up to her and held his position. Still, a frown formed on Sakura's face with the denial of help to find her beloved. "I'll commend you for standing up for your friend and holding your ground, Zala," Sakura remarked coldly. "It has been some time since any from ZAFT have done so with me." The sight of the frown made the blood in Athrun's face begin to quickly drain. An unhappy Commander Clyne was never a good thing for any around her. "You know what kind of fate awaits you by doing so. For the courage you are showing, I'll make the consequences quick, but no less horrible. So then, I assume you've prepared yourself for the punishment. You'll be able to show up for your duties, I assure you, but tomorrow will be a grueling day, I promise you that and see to it personally."
The reply Commander Clyne had given had not helped Athrun's stress levels at all. And the tone had made Athrun's blood run colder than it had been before. He'd known that delaying Commander Clyne would come with horrible consequences even if they would be short as the commander stated they would, but that didn't make the point any nice for Athrun. Athrun watched with growing apprehension as Commander Clyne flipped the motorcycle's kickstand down and got off the bike herself. Athrun would need a serious miracle to get out of this without looking so haggard tomorrow morning that there would be questions asked of what happened to him. That was before the explanation Athrun would give to Captain Gladys of what happened. As Commander Clyne had said in her last sentence, tomorrow would be a seriously grueling day for Athrun. But this would be for Tyler, and that was what made the consequences Athrun was about to receive bearable.
At the same time, Aila was left to wonder how a dinner she had taken her juniors on had devolved into what she was seeing. The food at the restaurant had been amazing, Aila would admit. She would remember this place so she and Matt could come back at a later date to enjoy together. However, the three with Aila had gone from enjoying the meal to acting strangely. Aila would've said it was just them having a good time at first, but it had gone beyond that and into worrisome territory. The three were acting far "looser" than they ever had around Aila before that she could recall. If Aila wasn't relatively sure of the point, she would say the three had been drinking alcohol. They were showing signs of being drunk, but they had been drinking the regular drinks from the menu, so that was nigh impossible.
Nevertheless, as the meal wrapped up, Aila was left to wonder how she would get the three somewhere they could calm down. Taking them to the Minerva as they were wouldn't go well as they were acting suspiciously enough to be noticeable. Aila wanted to give the three teens a chance to collect themselves before returning to the Minerva. Aila paid the bill and told the others in her group to get up so they could go. Rey and Shinn did as Aila told them, but they were looking a tad wobbly on their legs. Lunamaria on the other hand, tried to get up but started falling before she was fully standing. Aila managed to catch the girl and prevent her from collapsing to the floor. She glanced around hoping this scene wasn't being watched with it being embarrassing for them. Aila was thankful those around were concentrating on their meals and not viewing this.
Aila began helping Lunamaria heading for the door with Rey and Shinn behind her. She still didn't know what was happening or how she would explain this to others. However, once outside the restaurant's entrance, Aila's attention was shifted by a stranger sight. A short distance in front of her was none other than Athrun. He was facing someone who appeared to be a woman by the figure visible through the leather outfit they were wearing. The woman's figure was something Aila would admit, fuller than the average one she'd seen by a notable margin. But the stance Athrun was in, and his visible shaking said the woman wasn't there to be nice to him. That made Aila wonder what the heck was going on for her to see what she was. "Athrun," asked Aila, "What are you doing around here?"
Athrun turned and saw his fellow pilots from the Minerva other than Matthew Dems standing there. Athrun had to blink as he took in the group since it was strange at the moment. Aila was the only one that appeared to be fine in the group. The other three seemed very different than Athrun would've expected of ZAFT pilots since he'd not met them personally yet. The redheaded girl was being held up by Aila and seemed to be more than wobbly on her legs. The two boys were at the wall of the restaurant, the blonde leaning up on the wall and the black haired one sliding down to the sidewalk. Athrun could only wonder what was going on before he recalled what he was facing with Commander Clyne. This could be the miracle Athrun may get to duck out of the consequences, but he was doubtful.
Sakura had spotted the group that Zala was facing. The lot looked rather poor and would need quite a bit of help from what she could see. It may not be the exact punishment that Sakura had in mind to give to Zala. Yet, it would do for the time being since this was a waste of time she could be using to find her beloved Tyler. So, Zala got really lucky in this instance. The young man would be wise to not think this would be a regular result with her for it wouldn't be. Sakura turned and mounted her motorcycle and flipped down her visor, "You are very lucky tonight Zala," Sakura stated clearly, "don't mistake that. Besides, you dealing with the mess that has popped up will still serve as some consequences for you and making a poor decision. I'll find my query myself," Sakura focused forward, "he might have managed to evade me a few times before, but he won't tonight."
The motorcycle reeved before racing down the street and turned right at the intersection. Athrun let out a heavy sigh of relief seeing Commander Clyne leaving followed by his shoulders slumping slightly. Somehow, he had gotten out of facing whatever Sakura would have done to him this time. Such a thing was extremely rare when Sakura Clyne was involved, so Athrun was counting his blessings. He then turned to Aila, "So, how about we go around the corner out of the view of others, and we can talk about what has us here, sound good?"
Aila was glad that someone she knew was here and willing to help. She had three teens that were acting strangely and Aila hadn't any idea what to do with that. Maybe Athrun would have some idea what could be done for the three. So, she followed Athrun who was leading the boys around the corner of the restaurant. Athrun had the two young men lean against the wall as they were wobbly on their legs too but not as bad as the girl. With them coming out of the restaurant, they had probably come to eat there. Athrun could only guess the three had ordered drinks from the non-family section of the menu. They hadn't gotten the same warning as Athrun had from Tyler and so had consumed alcohol spiked drinks without even knowing it. It would explain the teens showing clear signs of being drunk. Athrun turned from the teens to face Aila, "Do you want to give me the story of how these three ended out the way they are, or is it something I don't want to know?"
Aila wanted the answer to the question that Athrun had asked herself. She didn't know how the three teens had end out the way they were right not. And she doubted that Shinn had been going for how he and the other two were currently when he was looking into dinner. She had thought of calling Matt to ask for advice, but Aila wouldn't know what to say to explain what she was dealing with. Aila ended up shaking her head at the whole situation, "To tell the truth, I don't know how they became the way they are now," Aila admitted. "We just came here as Shinn," Aila pointed at Shinn, "Had gotten me to give him a reward for his performance in the last operation. I didn't think much of it when we came here and sat down at the table. I certainly didn't think it would end out like this."
Athrun glanced back at the teens for a moment before turning back to Aila. He needed to know if the three had done what Tyler had warned him not to do during dinner. It certainly could explain why the three teens were showing classic signs of them being drunk. "This may seem an odd question," Athrun began, "But did they happen to order drinks from the menu that weren't in the family section?"
Aila blinked at the question as it was so unexpected. She couldn't think of what it would matter what any of the teens ordered to drink. They hadn't ordered from the section which alcoholic drinks, Aila was sure of that. So, what would it matter what the three had ordered on the menu? Athrun seemed to know something that Aila was missing which could potentially explain what had happened to the teens. "Maybe," Aila replied, "I don't really know. They ordered drinks from the menu, but I can't recall much beyond that. Why do you ask that?"
That answer told Athrun it was likely the three teens had ordered from outside the family section. And they had been unlucky enough to have gotten drinks that had been spiked with alcohol. Tyler had mentioned something to the effect that alcohol could find its way into drinks around half the time. The teens likely hadn't even been aware they had been drinking the alcohol spiked drinks. And they wouldn't have been able to tell before the alcohol hit their brains and started affecting them by dulling and cutting their judgment down. So, Athrun gained a sympathetic smile, "Then it's likely they did and wouldn't have known what they possibly got themselves into. And by the signs I'm seeing, they were unlucky enough to get caught up in the idea."
Aila blinked at Athrun's statements. He seemed to have an idea what had happened to the teens, at least more than she did. Aila would love an explanation that could make sense of how her three juniors were acting like drunken fools when they had consumed no alcohol that Aila could think of. "What are you talking about, Athrun," Aila questioned. "Do you know something I don't which could explain how they ended up like this?"
Athrun wished that he didn't have an educated guess on what the teens had unknowingly gotten into. If Tyler hadn't warned him, Athrun could've gotten caught up in the same unknown alcohol consumption the teens had. And Tyler had mentioned something to the effect of the alcohol spiking was a thing in the later evenings around Shira in certain areas. That made Athrun think that the citizens were aware of the point and knew how to avoid it and would teach the young, so they had a choice. Outsiders wouldn't be around long enough to know of the unsaid activity, so wouldn't be aware. Thus, Athrun gave a sad smile, "Oh, I have an educated guess, which comes from something my friend told me," Athrun returned. "Apparently, during the evening and nights, non-family drinks can be spiked with an "extra kick," by what I was told. That was the advice I was given, and I took that to mean that alcohol can be added, and the amounts may vary."
Athrun's explanation as unpleasant as it was did explain why the teens were acting as they were. Aila had been sure that alcohol couldn't be a part of the behavior as her juniors hadn't ordered from the alcoholic section of the menu. However, by what Athrun said, the things Aila had been seeing from the teens were indeed signs of them being drunk. And honestly, the boys being drunk was pretty sad to see, Luna was the worst among the three. Aila's head fell, and she then shook it, "That would explain why they've been acting like their tipsy or worse." While the teens being drunk was problematic enough, there was more to the point ahead of them. Aila knew their behavior would be held against them and earn a dressing down from one like Arthur were they to go back to the Minerva tonight. And yet, their condition wasn't their fault as they hadn't known about their drinks being spiked. Aila ended out sighing, "Well, this does provide an unexpected predicament. If they go back to the ship as they are, then they will be punished for the behavior."
Athrun was curious as to what Aila meant. It wasn't unheard of for a ship officer to dress down a soldier or crew member for bad behavior. However, if the said officer was given the same explanation, then they should understand and not do the dressing down. Granted, Athrun knew there were some ZAFT officers that were stubborn and wouldn't listen to explanations. Yet, Athrun doubted there were any of those on the Minerva. But by what Aila said, there was at least one officer that could be less understanding with what had happened to the three teens. "Is there an officer that is unwilling to listen to explanations," he asked. "I've met a few of those, but I've found they tend to be rare."
Aila had been thinking about what could be said so Arthur wouldn't dress down the teen pilots when Athrun had asked his question. It wasn't that Arthur was inclined to not listen to explanations as Athrun implied. It was more that Arthur had a tendency to jump to conclusions which could cause issues. Talia would be far more understanding, but she was likely busy with preparing the ship to head out tomorrow. So, Aila shook her head, "It isn't that the one who would be judging this is unwilling to listen." Aila hesitated, not wanting to paint Arthur in a bad light if she could help it. The Minerva was lucky to have Arthur as he was a dedicated officer and was also a talented one. "It's more the deputy captain tends to jump to conclusions which would be the issue with this."
Athrun nodded in understanding to what Aila was saying about the Minerva's deputy captain. He'd come across those that "jumped" to conclusions when they were faced with a random situation. Such tended not to help in the long run and the majority of those like that usually were apologists. Captain Gladys had mentioned her deputy, Arthur Trine, to Athrun during their introductions. From what the captain had said, the Minerva's second in command sounded like a fair officer to Athrun. But if the man was as Aila said, that would cause a complication with helping the three drunk teens. They hadn't known they had been given alcohol, and by the time they could have, their judgment would've been affected. Thus, Athrun sighed tiredly, "I assume telling the deputy captain the three had no idea what they had gotten into wouldn't help their case?" Aila shook her head in response, which was what Athrun expected. "I see," he returned, "That means it would be better if they didn't go back to the ship tonight."
Athrun thought for a moment about what could be done. As taking back the drunk teens back to the Minerva wasn't a good option, a place would have to be found tonight for them. Finding the place was something that Athrun could help with, but he did hesitate a bit with the idea he had. Athrun didn't doubt Tyler would be more than willing to help him and the other four out with what they had been caught up in. However, Tyler was dealing with Commander Clyne which normally took most if not all of Tyler's attention to handle. He didn't want to add more to the plate Tyler was working on if he didn't have to. Yet, Tyler's place was the best Athrun could come up with to house the teens while they dealt with the alcohol they had drunk. "I have an idea of where we could take the three so they can sleep off the alcohol they partook of unknowingly," Athrun stated. "But it would be best to have someone covering for us on the Minerva."
Aila figured there would need to be someone that would cover their group to help the three teens through their issues. They couldn't go to Talia or Arthur directly without explaining what happened which may not go over well right now. However, Aila was sure that Matt would be able to give something to them and not have further questions asked until tomorrow. Matt would be willing to cover for them if Aila asked and gave him a short explanation of what was going on. Aila put a hand to her chin, "I think I could get one on the Minerva to cover for us until tomorrow. I would just need to reach out and tell them a bit of what is going on and they would be willing to do the job."
Aila sounded confident in whoever she had in mind to cover for the group, so Athrun would accept that. If she could get to that, Athrun could call for transport to get their group to Tyler's place so they could sleep off the alcohol. "That sounds like a fair plan," Athrun replied. "Go ahead and call whoever you have in mind to cover for us. While you do that, I'll work on getting transport for us to the place I have in mind to stay for the night." Athrun took his com-unit so he could get transportation for their group. While he did that, Aila took out her own com-unit and put in the code for Matt's personal com-unit.
At the same time, Matt had been in his quarters having a quiet evening. He'd known being the pilot in charge would be boring for the last night in Shira's port. But he wanted to help Aila fulfill her promise of a reward for Shinn's performance. The kid did deserve a reward for what he'd pulled off, Matt was in agreement with that. Sure, Matt would've liked it more if he and Aila had gone out to dinner around Shira. However, he would make it up to her when they reached Carpentaria by taking Aila on a date. He would spring that on her when she got back after the dinner Shinn had said would be his reward.
However, Matt was brought out of his thoughts when his personal com-unit began going off saying he had an incoming call. When Matt picked up the unit and checked the ID, he was a tad puzzled to see it was Aila calling him. There was little reason for her to be calling him tonight before getting back to the Minerva that he could think of. Really, the only thing that Matt could come up with was something had gone wrong and Aila may need assistance of some sort. Even if that were the case, Aila could call the captain to get the needed help. Still, Matt had the unit connect the call so he could find out what was going on, "Hey Aila," he greeted, "What can I do for you? Not that I have anything against you calling and talking, just didn't expect that before you return to the ship tonight."
Aila was glad that Matt had picked up relatively quickly. Things were off enough from what she'd expected tonight she needed someone to listen to her. Athrun listening and explaining things had helped, but Aila was still stressed right now with the teens being drunk. It had happened under her watch even if she didn't know about the "tradition" Athrun had mentioned. So, to hear Matt's voice was helpful to Aila. He would understand the position she was in and would help keep it from Arthur so the teens wouldn't get into trouble they had no choice in. "I wish this was just for a chat," Aila remarked. "But I'm calling to ask a favor from you, Matt."
Matt's attention sharpened at the mention of a favor, for Aila wasn't one to ask for favors regularly. For her to reach out to him also said this favor likely had something to do with her group. And that he was the one she called, said that whatever was going on wouldn't be good for the moment to get to the captain or deputy. "What kind of favor did you need," Matt asked seriously. "I can only guess it is something you don't want the captain or deputy to know about right now."
Aila figured that Matt would pick up on the unsaid points quickly enough to grasp the situation somewhat. That was why she had reached out to Matt for the help she needed with the situation as it was. "Yes, it would be best if Talia nor Arthur know about what I will be telling you in detail until at least tomorrow," Aila replied. She paused for a moment gathering her thoughts before continuing. "Dinner itself was fine, but something came up from it which has changed things for the group. Put simply, our juniors unknowingly consumed alcohol due to things we weren't aware of. I very much doubt it would be wise for them to return to the Minerva in their current states."
Matt couldn't help but wonder how things could have ended as Aila had stated. The teen pilots the Minerva had weren't ones to blatantly wave off laws and rules. And alcohol consumption was something that Matt didn't believe the three would do knowingly. That left the question of how they got pushed into consuming alcohol as Aila was implying. He agreed with her that the teens coming back drunk to some degree would be a bad idea. Arthur could dress the teens down and likely would given the chance if they appeared drunk. Matt hummed in response, "Yeah, it wouldn't be a good idea if they came back drunk to some degree. So, what's the plan then?"
Aila was onboard with Athrun's idea of having the group stay elsewhere for the night and then return to the Minerva in the morning. And it sounded like Athrun had a specific place in mind already for them to stay. That would just leave transportation to the place which Athrun was working on and covering them for not returning to the Minerva that evening. "I bumped into Athrun around the restaurant that Shinn chose, and he is willing to help in this. The favor I need from you is to cover for my group not coming back to the Minerva this evening. We will return early tomorrow morning before the ship heads out, I'll make sure of that. But if you could come up with an excuse as to why my group won't be coming back until then, I would really appreciate that."
Coming up with a cover story for the group away shouldn't be that difficult for Matt to do. Arthur would accept most of what Matt said without too many questions. The captain may need some more convincing to buy a story that Matt came up with. Matt could still cover for the other pilots being away for the night and he would. The teens didn't deserve a dressing down for something they hadn't chosen to do. "You can leave it to me," Matt assured. "I'll come up with a believable story and send you details so you'll be ready if questioned when you get back."
Aila was glad Matt had gotten on board with this to help their juniors wouldn't be punished for something they hadn't done by choice. "Then I'll leave that part to you and see you tomorrow morning." Aila disconnected the call and turned back to Athrun who looked to be checking over the teens.
Athrun was glancing over the three teens to make sure none of them had consumed too much alcohol to be a problem. He didn't think they would've as Tyler explained the tradition was for sampling and not heavy drinking. And none of them looked horribly drunk from what Athrun could see after glancing them over. Granted, the boys were showing lighter signs of drunkenness than the girl was, but that was likely the individual response to alcohol. Athrun kind of hoped that Tyler had something which would help the three. The Federation had come up with medication which helped with alcohol-related symptoms by what Athrun understood. And with how prepared Tyler had a knack of being, it wouldn't surprise Athrun if his friend had medication for what he was seeing with the teens. Then the three would only have to sleep off the effects that were brought on by the alcohol consumption.
Athrun had already called for a vehicle to pick up his group and take them where they would go. He hoped that Aila would make the arrangement to cover them not going back to the Minerva this evening. If she had, then them being absent wouldn't be a big deal and arriving tomorrow morning would be fine. Should Aila not manage that, then there would be awkward questions asked of them. The explanation which would follow wouldn't likely go well for the teens with what had befallen them. Athrun would help them as he could, but he would be limited since he was still new to the Minerva. The kids didn't deserve what they could face for unknowingly drinking alcohol, for it wasn't their fault. Athrun's gaze shifted to Aila as she was approaching him, "I hope an arrangement has been made so the return tomorrow morning isn't questioned much," he posed. "It will give these three time to recovery as well."
Aila nodded in reply noting that Athrun had been looking over the teens. She was worried about her juniors even if they should be okay with what happened to them. However, the expression on Athrun's face said he wasn't extremely concerned. Aila took that to mean the three teens were doing okay and weren't in any immediate danger. Aila looked to Athrun, "Are they okay," she asked, "I would rather not have those under me hurt while under my watch if that can be helped." Aila sighed, "They are far too young to be hurt for something foolish."
Athrun nodded, "They appear to be as good as they can be other than being inebriated from the alcohol consumption. They will need to sleep the effects off before they are ready for duty I would say." Athrun thought about Tyler hopefully having medication that could help this along. There was the chance Tyler would have something to help, but Athrun couldn't be sure at this point. And the vehicle that would transport them would be arriving soon enough would take them to Tyler's place. He was sure that Tyler would be willing to help him and those with him in their plight. "I have a vehicle on its way to pick us up," Athrun continued. "It will take us to a place where the three can sleep off the effects of the alcohol. And potentially getting medication that could help speed up the process."
Aila wasn't aware of medication that could help recovery from the effects of alcohol. But it wouldn't be a surprise if the Federation had come up with something to do that, and yet it would be to a degree. Aila wouldn't disagree that their three juniors really could use the time to sleep off the effects of the alcohol without being dressed down. And the place that Athrun seemed to have in mind sounded like it could be helpful to them in their plight. So, Aila would trust Athrun's judgment in this and hope that they could get the assistance for the three they needed. "Well, I'll trust you in this plan of yours," Aila stated. "You seem to know Shira better than I do."
Athrun would've said more, but the sound of a car drew his attention to the street. He glanced that way and saw the car was the one he'd called to pick his group up. Athrun went and talked with the driver for a moment. He told them about the three teens having sampled the alcohol a bit too much and so they were quite tipsy. Then Athrun had Aila help him get the three teens into the back of the car as they were having trouble doing that themselves. Once inside the car, Athrun gave the address of Tyler's place to the driver to take them to.
Meanwhile, Tyler had gotten home from the restaurant after he'd made a "run for it." He knew time was against him with his stalker after him once again. Sakura hadn't let up on her pursuit of him at all since the Alliance-PLANT War. If anything, the woman had become more "determined" and persistent on chasing him. Tyler had been forced to realize that the woman was harder to be rid of than he'd imagined. He'd tried many different methods to avoid being around Sakura but hadn't ever managed to get much time away from her that wasn't him during his service. And with her now a part of SOLAS, even his service didn't help get time away from her as it did before. That didn't stop Tyler from trying to get Sakura to leave him be for his own peace of mind. Lacus' older sister had forced him to redefine what he considered stalking and those who did the idea. Tyler had been required to get creative in the methods that he utilized in his attempts to avoid and escape Sakura.
The other "issue" that had been coming up with Sakura and Tyler was the newer feelings that seemed to come to him with her around. Tyler wouldn't admit the point to others and especially not to Sakura, but some of the things Sakura did feel "nice." It had been surprising to him when he'd begun to realize the newer feelings. Tyler had never thought there would be a part of him that would like and even kind of enjoy what Sakura did to him. Tyler had made sure that the woman wouldn't go past lines he defined since she had took advantage of him around the ruins of Junius Seven. He didn't want any of those type of shenanigans happening in the near future if there was anything he could do about it.
With all of that in mind, Tyler fully intended to lock down his house to try and keep Sakura out. Tyler would do everything he could think of to make sure there were no openings which the woman would exploit to get inside. He knew that Sakura wouldn't make keeping her out easy or simple. But Tyler would employ all his military training he would need to do the best to keep the woman out of his house. In the end, Tyler knew his chances of placating Sakura was unlikely to finish with him being able to keep her away. Yet, he would still give his best effort for the slim chance of being about to keep Sakura out for the night. Tyler wasn't in the mood to deal with what came when Sakura was around him, not after sending off Athrun. That send off had been cut short with Sakura coming around even if Tyler was somewhat ahead of her.
When he arrived at his house, Tyler hadn't seen any sign that Sakura had beaten him to the place. He would take that small advantage while he had it to work with and get down to business. Tyler pulled his car into the garage and shut the door before he jumped out of his car. He then began locking every door and window he came across as he made his way through the house. Each door had two locks at minimum thanks to Sakura's attempts which Tyler was quick to switch to their locked position. He did the same with the windows, which each had a lock, and some had other mechanisms to help keep them closed and locked. Tyler didn't want to give Sakura any chance to get in that he could prevent her from using. That would leave Sakura smashing a door in which was unlikely or her breaking a window to get in. And either of those would be a warning for Tyler so he could defend himself from his stalker.
Tyler had gotten through the entire house one time and was starting to double check the locks. After that he would move some furniture to block some of the windows to further block his stalker from getting inside. Yet, a shiver ran down Tyler's spine telling him he was out of time for the preparations he'd been making. His stalker had caught up with him a bit sooner than he'd predicted. Granted, Tyler hadn't thought that Sakura would be put off by him locking down the house, but it should slow her down a bit. The sound of a motorcycle getting closer came to his ears which he assumed was Sakura. That got Tyler to stop his checking as he now would be on the defensive against the woman. And Tyler would do what he could to fend off Sakura as she came at him.
When it came down to the issues with Sakura, Tyler would fight for his freedom and safety as he felt necessary. Sure, he knew that Sakura had hand-to-hand combat skills and they were more than good. But Tyler would use his skills and fight dirty if he had to in his defense against his stalker. That was something Tyler had learn, with Sakura, he would have to fight dirty at times to get her off and leave him alone. He wished that such wasn't necessary, more for Lacus's sake than Sakura's but the older woman was making it necessary. So, he moved to the living room as it was the best defendable position in his house. Tyler then settled into a defensive stance and waited for whatever came his way.
Sakura arrived at Tyler's house as it was the most likely place he would go. She wouldn't give up on spending time with her beloved tonight. Sakura had worked hard to track him down and she would have what she wanted for the efforts she put in. She would snuggle and cuddle with her beloved Tyler tonight, she would make sure of that. And yet, Sakura figured that Tyler was going to play hard to get as he normally did. Not that Sakura had an issue with her beloved playing hard to get, it did provide some fun that she enjoyed. The chase she'd been on tonight would make when she caught Tyler all the better. That was her motivation to get time with her beloved, to get the time she wanted so much.
Sakura got off her motorcycle and when the back door first to check and see if she could use it to enter. She made sure her movements as quiet as possible, so Tyler didn't hear her coming to him. The door was locked when she tried it. Sakura took that all the doors and likely the windows would be locked by her beloved. That was to be expected from him with Tyler playing hard to get with her. But all Sakura would have to do was find an opening to work with to get inside the house. Once inside, Sakura could get to Tyler quickly enough and cuddle him as she wished to. So, Sakura began probing each window and door to see if she could use it to gain entry. She was sure that one would allow her to enter the house. Tyler may be good at preparing, but he wasn't perfect, and Sakura knew that for a fact. She didn't hold that against him, but she would use the lapses he had if she had to for time with her beloved Tyler.
As Sakura was inspecting the outside of the house, she found what she had been searching for. To her good fortune, she found one of Tyler's bedroom windows not locked fully. It took a bit of work to slide the window open and not break it, but she managed it. If most of the other doors and windows were locked, it would make him potentially escaping her less likely. So, Sakura slipped in through the window and glanced around to see what her surroundings looked like. Any sound would alert Tyler and he would be more prepared for her. Sakura wanted to surprise her beloved and hug him. So, she began making her way through the room to the rest of the house so she could find her beloved Tyler.
Tyler remained where he was, listening hard and trying to get anything to say his stalker was coming at him. The feeling of tension and apprehension was getting stronger within him with each passing moment. Tyler was practicing some of the exercises he'd learned during his SOLAS training to remain calm and ready. He was breathing in and out in a calculated manner to both keep calm and not give any assistance to Sakura. Tyler knew that the woman wouldn't give up on getting to him easily, even with his house locked down. She would likely find a way inside given enough time, he was expecting and counting on the point. And Tyler was on his own to deal with Sakura which was both as he intended and wish it wasn't. He preferred that the crap Sakura pulled him into wasn't shoved upon others for it was bad enough for just him. And yet, dealing with the crap alone still royally sucked and Tyler wouldn't deny that. But Tyler was ready to fight, however the waiting for his opponent to come was stressing him.
As the minutes ticked by, Tyler heard nothing as he kept completely still. There was not a creak from a single floorboard to signal any approaching. Nor was there a whisper of any movement to help Tyler know the woman was coming either. Tyler didn't flinch or move an inch as he waited for his stalker to make the next move. A counter was his best chance to keep Sakura a distance for a bit. If the woman managed to latch onto him, Tyler would be hard pressed to get her to let go. He knew her strength was more than his enough of a margin that Tyler was at a slight disadvantage. But he wouldn't make this easy for Sakura to win and get her way tonight. He would fight back and defend his freedom and personal space to the best of his abilities. Sakura would not beat him just so she could cling to him and enjoy herself while he suffered in response.
Back with Sakura, she had shed her leather riding outfit before entering the house, leaving her in shorts and a t-shirt. The leather suit made too much noise and would give her position away. Sakura didn't doubt Tyler was somewhere in the house, listening for her coming toward him. She wanted to get the jump on him if possible so she could surprise her beloved with an embrace. Thus, Sakura carefully opened the bedroom door so it didn't make a sound as it swung open slowly. She silently made her way into the hallway searching for her Tyler. She had been to the house enough to know most of the spots that would creak if stepped upon, so she could avoid them. And as Sakura came to the corner that had the kitchen and the living room beyond, she caught sounds of breathing. By what Sakura could tell, Tyler was in the living room likely waiting for her.
Sakura slipped around the corner keeping in the shadows so that Tyler wouldn't see her coming. However, as she was closing the distance, one step set off a creak from the floor. Sakura shot forward at Tyler as the sound would tell him where she was coming from. He managed to weave out of her lunge, so Sakura passed Tyler. Sakura slid to a stop before she lunged again at Tyler but he lept and did a flip to avoid the second attempt. She would admit that Tyler was doing better than most against her attempts to get to him. However, she spotted an opportunity for her to turn the tables in her favor. Just before Tyler landed, Sakura spun around and swept Tyler's legs out from under him. As he was falling, Sakura rushed forward and embraced her beloved.
Tyler had been doing okay at avoiding Sakura trying to grab him. The creak from the floor had given him just enough warning to weave out of the first lunge. The second attempt was harder to avoid. Yet, then his stalker had managed to sweep his legs out from under him before he landed from the front flip he'd done. Tyler had fallen and struck his head on the floor which had hurt an amount but more dazed him for a moment. Giggling snapped him out of the daze and made him more aware of his situation. Arms had gone around him and had him in a hold which wouldn't be easy to break Tyler knew. "~You're so cute when you play hard to get honey~" Sakura sang, "~But my love for you will always win out for it is stronger~"
A shiver shot through Tyler at hearing the woman's voice, and it was worse with her singing the lines. Not that Sakura's voice singing was bad or anything, quite beautiful really, though he wouldn't tell her that. No, it was the woman's reputation of being cold which so clashed with her singing that put off Tyler. And then, the pet name of "honey" which she had used brought mixed feelings for him. On the one hand, Tyler wasn't pleased with the pet name as it disgusted him to an extent to be called such things. On the other, there was a part of Tyler that actually liked Sakura using a pet name with him which was more than worrisome. Once again, Sakura was enjoying herself at the expense of him being unhappy and suffering. Tyler wouldn't let that stand without him fighting against it to free himself and protect his personal space.
With that in mind, as any other would in his position, Tyler fought back and struggled against the hold he was in. And yet, Tyler found the hold he was confined in was firm and wasn't letting up as he struggled. He'd expected Sakura's "embrace" to be strong and difficult to escape if he could manage it. It was what made escaping from Sakura such a hard thing and have such slim chances for him to do successfully. That didn't diminish Tyler's efforts to try and free himself, nonetheless. He wouldn't listen to the part of him which was liking the hug from Sakura. He would get her to let him go and leave him be for the night if Tyler got any say in the matter.
Sakura felt Tyler struggling in her embrace. He was continuing to play hard to get, and it was just so cute to her. Tyler resisting them being together was just so adorable. It motivated Sakura to convince him that she was the only girl for him. They would have a life together, Sakura would accept none other than her beloved Tyler. He was the only one outside her family that had treated her as a woman and not the feared Black Zephyr of ZAFT. That was one of the many qualities that he had which attracted her to him. All of Tyler's resistance would just make the ending result all the more worth it for both of them in the end. So, Sakura maintained her hug and began snuggling her beloved. "You're so cute when you struggle, Tyler," she said. "I'm here to spend time with you while you have down time. We should develop our relationship as we can you know."
Tyler wouldn't give into the snuggling that Sakura was using to try and convince him to give into her. Athrun had given him time to prepare as he could for the woman to catch up to him. Tyler wouldn't let his friend's sacrifice be in vain. He may not know what Sakura could've done to Athrun, but Tyler doubted it was nice in any way. Sakura wasn't the nicest to those that blocked her from getting to him, Tyler had found that out. And Tyler had no intention of waving the freak white flag for Sakura tonight. She'd done nothing to change that so he would resist the best he was able to get away from her. "I would ask if you understood the value of personal space," Tyler replied with effort. "But I doubt that means much to you with how you pursue me. And I have no interest in a relationship with you in the way you want Sakura, so leave me alone."
Tyler managed to make some progress and slipped out of Sakura's hold on him. The moment that Tyler was out of the hold, he made distance between him and Sakura. "I'm not going to admit defeat tonight that easily Sakura. Athrun was willing to face the consequences you would dish out for me, and I will not let that be wasted." Tyler paused for a moment as a question came to his mind. He was sure that he'd locked down his house well enough to keep Sakura out for longer than it had. That made him wonder how the woman had managed to get inside without him hearing a door busted down or a window broken. "But out of curiosity, how did you get in? I'm sure I locked all the doors and windows before you arrived around here. You've shown that the curtesy of using the front door isn't your thing. There was no sound of a door being busted down or a window being broken."
Sakura smiled at the question as it confirmed her assumption that other windows and doors would be locked. That meant it would take more time to use them for Tyler to potentially escape her. It would make the chase that Sakura didn't doubt would shortly start more advantageous for her. So, Sakura giggled in response, "One of your bedroom windows wasn't fully locked. It took a bit of work, but I managed to get it open and used it to get in. Even if that hadn't been the case, I would've found a way in soon enough my beloved Tyler."
Tyler grimaced at being told he hadn't locked one of the windows completely. It was essentially him inviting Sakura into his home. He would've likely found that if he'd had the time to double check the doors and windows. But it was far too late for Tyler to do anything about that other than regret the point. He would now have to deal with Sakura and her intention of catching him to do what she wanted. It meant a chase was about to start which Tyler would be doing everything he could to evade the woman. The problem for him, all Tyler's preparation now put him at a disadvantage. Doors and windows would take longer to open giving the chance for Sakura to catch up with him. So, Tyler swallowed hard, "Dang it," he cursed. "I seriously doubt there is anything I can say to get you to back off and leave me alone tonight."
Sakura took a step forward, her smile growing as she did so, "Now why would you ever want me to leave you alone, my dear Tyler? All I want to do is show that I love you." Sakura giggled before continuing, "You should be happy about that as any man would be receiving such from a beautiful woman." Sakura's smile morphed into a possessive grin, "And I know the chase will make it all the more worth the cuddling we will do afterward!"
Tyler cried out as he dove and rolled out of the way of Sakura rushing at him. Sakura collided into a chair tipping it over. Tyler came out of the roll coming to his feet and raced off toward the front door. Sakura lept over the chair she had hit and was after Tyler a moment later. Tyler heard footsteps right behind him and knew he would never get the front door open before Sakura latched back onto him. So, instead, he took a few steps up the wall before he flipped over Sakura, "Oh no you don't," Tyler barked. "You ain't catching me that quick or easily!" Sakura couldn't stop her forward momentum as Tyler used the front door to flip over her. So, she crashed into the door as Tyler ran in the other direction.
Tyler sprinted to the closest living room window, just about ripped off the latch and threw it open. He dove out of the window without hesitation and rolled so he didn't crash into the ground. Tyler recovered and shifted into a run along the outside of the house. He planned to get to the garage and use his car to escape the woman. He didn't care if he crashed through the garage door to get away, he could have it fixed later. Tyler could find a place to stay tonight to wait out Sakura. The Normandy would be the first choice as he could lock down the ship and not let any onboard. He would do that in a heartbeat if he could get away from his stalker.
Sakura had quickly recovered from the crash into the front door. She had seen Tyler diving out an open window in the living room. Sakura would guess he was going to try and get to the garage and to his car. She wouldn't let her beloved get away that easily. Thus, Sakura sprinted down the hallway the other bedrooms were down. She guessed that Tyler was going the long way around the house assuming she would go to cut off the short way. She would catch him before he could get to the front side of the house. Sakura smiled as she got to the first bedroom and got the window open and heard approaching footfalls. She had assumed right that Tyler had taken the long way around the house. She would catch him as he passed, Sakura would make sure of that.
For a short moment, Tyler thought he'd managed to evade Sakura. She would try to cut off his trek to the garage. But Tyler figured she would go for the master bedroom assuming he would take the shortest route to the garage. That was why he was going the long way, to get the little extra time he would need to evade Sakura. However, it was shortly after he'd slid around the corner that Tyler was proven wrong. He'd past three of the four windows along the west side of the house when something appeared in front of Tyler. The next moment Tyler smashed into whatever had appeared in front of him at his chest level. His legs flew out and forward followed by the rest of his body going into a flip. Tyler was in a daze from whatever had smashed into his chest since the breath had been knocked out of him.
Sakura hadn't meant to hit Tyler, she had just been trying to grab him. She had certainly hadn't intended to "clothesline" him. Sakura would apologize to him while they cuddled and showing her affection for him. But she managed to catch Tyler before he touched the ground and hit his head potentially. She didn't want him to get too hurt with the chase, then he would have to potentially go to the hospital. That would make any chance of snuggling and cuddling tonight go to zero. Sakura didn't want that, so she was doing what she could to be gentle. She pulled Tyler into the first bedroom and hugged him to her, "I'm sorry for hitting you my beloved," Sakura said. "But when you provide a chase, it is just so hard to hold back my enthusiasm."
Tyler was just trying to process what had happened to him a moment ago. Something had appeared in front of him out of nowhere. That had apparently been Sakura's arms which Tyler had crashed into and been "clotheslined" by. That had transitioned into him doing a flip while he was out of breath and in pain. Then Sakura caught and pulled him inside the first bedroom on the west side of the house. It said that Sakura had guessed his plan and countered him. And with the pain he was in right now, Tyler was left to consider if it was worth fighting Sakura further. Tyler was surprised he hadn't cracked some bones from the clothesline, for it had hurt terribly.
He began coughing to try and get his breath back from being slammed out of him. Tyler had heard Sakura's "apology." He didn't know whether it was being done in a genuine manner or not. The mention of her "enthusiasm" was no excuse for what the woman had done to Tyler in his mind. When Tyler had gotten his breath back, he'd come to his decision. It wasn't worth enduring more pain like he'd gotten to escape Sakura. He would wave the white flag even when he would be cursing while doing so. Thus, he grumbled, "Fine Sakura, you win tonight." Tyler took some deep breaths, "What you did to me freaking hurt more than it's worth to keep avoiding you for now. But you are not to take advantage of this and get me involved in sensual stuff."
Sakura fully intended to make up for the hurt that she had caused to Tyler. The snuggling they would do shortly would just be the start. Sure, Tyler had said no sensual stuff and that was fine for Sakura right now. So, she giggled happily as she hugged Tyler to herself and headed off toward the master bedroom. Tyler didn't do much to resist Sakura hugging him and dragging him off to his bedroom. What could he do at this point? He'd admitted defeat and waved the white flag, even he couldn't deny that. That didn't stop him from grumbling about his situation as he didn't like it. Not that Sakura listened to any of Tyler's grumbling as she led the way to his bedroom. Nevertheless, there was a part of Tyler which was liking what Sakura was doing with her hugging and cuddling. Tyler wanted to deny that, but his "libido" wouldn't let him do that.
Meanwhile, Athrun's group was on its way toward Tyler's house. Athrun wondered how Tyler was or had faired in evading Commander Clyne. He'd done what he could to delay the woman for his friend but hadn't gotten much time for Tyler. The situation between Tyler and Commander Clyne hadn't gotten better by what Tyler had mentioned. If anything, it had gotten worse since the Alliance-PLANT War had ended. Athrun felt sorry for his friend and what he dealt with when it came to the woman that pursued him. Tyler really did have it rough because of Commander Clyne. Athrun wouldn't have believed what his friend faced with the Commander if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes. Commander Clyne just acted so radically differently around Tyler than she did around others it was unbelievable.
But regardless of how things had gone and ended between Tyler and Commander Clyne, Athrun was confident that Tyler would be willing to help his group with what it was dealing with. The teen pilots of the Minerva hadn't gotten into their drunken states by choice, they had been drinking unknowingly. They shouldn't be blamed or punished for what had happened to them, which was what they would face going back to the Minerva as they were. That led to Athrun suggesting they go elsewhere for the night which was Tyler's house. Tyler could give them a ride in the morning to the dock the Minerva was in. The journey to Tyler's place from the restaurant took about ten minutes. The five got out of the car, Rey being the only one that was able to do the job unassisted.
As Aila was helping Lunamaria out of the car that had dropped them off, she was glancing around. The house they had been dropped off in front of looked rather normal from what Aila could see. It appeared to be a three or more bedroom and two or more bath by its size. She couldn't help but wonder why Athrun would bring them to this place specifically. He hadn't mentioned anything about him potentially owning a house around Shira. No, Aila recalled him saying something about a friend that could help their group out. If this was Athrun's friend's house, it would be rather large for one person. Heck, Athrun hadn't given much more detail about the said friend that he was taking them to for help. Not that Aila didn't trust Athrun's judgment, she would just prefer he give details about what he was getting them into.
Athrun assisted Shinn to get to a wall and had him slide down before facing the door. He looked at the porch, searching for the spare key that Tyler hid up there. Aila helped Lunamaria lean up against a support pillar. Then she glanced over at Rey to find he was leaning up against the neighboring pillar. Aila shifted her gaze back to Athrun to find he had a key in hand and was unlocking the house's front door. That did lend credence to Athrun knowing the owner of the house since he knew where a spare key was. Athrun went back to Shinn and helped him move inside the house. Aila hesitated for a moment before assisting Lunamaria through the door and told Rey to do the same.
Once inside, they were greeted by silence, not a single person around to greet them. With how late it was at the moment, Aila would assume that whoever was here was likely getting ready for bed. She looked to Athrun, unable to keep the questions that were coming to her mind to herself, "Athrun," she began. "You mentioned you would be taking us to a friend for help tonight. I assume this house belongs to your friend then?"
Athrun stopped, helping Shinn slide down a wall as the teen was having difficulty staying on his feet. He glanced back at Aila with her question. "Yes, this house belongs to my friend. It's usually just him when he makes it around Shira, so he has extra room to spare if needed."
At the same time, Tyler's attention had been shifted at the sound of his front door opening. He'd been dealing with Sakura "snuggling" with him since she'd dragged him to his bed. The part of him which enjoyed what Sakura did had been hard to ignore. That had been getting harder since the Alliance-PLANT War had ended. It was more that Sakura had increased her stalking efforts with all the free time she had. He couldn't say if Sakura was trying to wear him down and give into what she wanted, it was a possibility. And with what she did, there was no way that Tyler's libido didn't have an effect on him. Sakura had made sure he knew what a woman's body felt like with her cuddling and snuggling. And that part of Tyler which was connected to his libido liked the feel even when the rest didn't. At least, The woman had soon fallen asleep holding onto him not actively using her body in the snuggling.
Yet, the front door opening said that Tyler had visitors of some sort. It could be Athrun, Tyler wouldn't be surprised if his friend was coming by to check on him. Tyler felt he might as well go and check. It would take some time for him to get out of Sakura's grasp anyway. So, Tyler got to work getting out of Sakura's hold which wasn't as easy as some may think. It took a few minutes, but Tyler slipped out of Sakura's embrace and headed for the bedroom door. He made his way toward the foyer to see who was visiting at this time of night. As Tyler got closer, he heard the sound of voices. One was Athrun's but he didn't recognize the other one that his friend was talking to.
Tyler caught sight of Athrun which got him to smile. He really was a good friend that Tyler was grateful to have. Athrun was one that would check on Tyler when he faced something unpleasant. It was one of the qualities that made up Athrun's kind soul which fit him so well. But then Tyler heard Athrun saying there was extra room in the house. That had Tyler wondering what his friend was coming to him for. Not that Tyler was against helping his friends when they needed it. But Tyler just got done dealing with Sakura, he needed time to recover from that. So, Tyler stepped forward, "Athrun, not that I have an issue with you visiting," he started. "But why are you saying my place has extra room?"
Athrun turned to the hall that led to the master bedroom of the house, to see Tyler coming into view. His friend looked haggard which Athrun sort of expected should Commander Clyne catch up to him. Athrun could only feel sorry for Tyler with what he endured when it came to Lacus's older sister. But the group with him was in a bind and really could use assistance. Athrun didn't doubt that once Tyler understood that, he would be willing to help them. "Well, I kind of got involved with a bit of an issue that I was hoping you might help me with," Athrun replied. "And I'm sorry that I'm coming to you after what you had to deal with. I wish this wasn't needed, but you are the one I turn to in this."
Aila studied the individual that had entered the foyer and had been caused to pause. The individual was a handsome young man who appeared to be the same age as herself. He had tan hair of medium length, which complimented his green eyes and other facial features. The voice had sounded kind of familiar to Aila, but she couldn't place it at the moment. The other point of note to Aila was the guy looked very tired and haggard. The haggard appearance was odd enough to stand out to Aila as one didn't normally see another like this without something causing it. What could've caused the point, Aila couldn't say. However, that didn't stop her from being curious about the idea.
Tyler took a moment to take in those that were with Athrun. The more that Tyler saw had him wondering what Athrun had gotten involved in. Tyler recognized the four with his friend even if he knew one of them more than the rest. He recognized the kid Shinn right away, but the kid looked rather poor at the moment. Sure, Tyler had told Athrun to keep an eye on the kid, but this wasn't what he'd meant. Then there was the redhead which Tyler had scared while the Minerva had been docked at Asgard. The girl looked a bit worse off than Shinn did and that was saying something. The other teen was the one that had shown Tyler the way to the Minerva's captain's quarters around Armory One. And finally, there was the woman who had done the same while the Minerva had been at Asgard. The woman was the only one other than Athrun that looked okay from what Tyler was seeing.
Tyler couldn't begin to guess what had happened to have what he was seeing in front of him. With the teens looking as they did, it could explain why Athrun had come to him for help. Honestly, they three looked tipsy to drunk which was odd. Tyler's gaze slowly moved back to be on Athrun, "Okay then," Tyler began, "I know I say I'm willing to help with anything, but I ain't a miracle worker on demand you know." Tyler paused for a moment, "Should I ask what is going on to have what I'm seeing in front of me? Or should I just assume it's better I not know the details and you tell me what kind of help you were looking for?"
Athrun sighed at the questions Tyler was asking. He didn't blame his friend for asking, it was just complicated. Lunamaria hiccupped as Athrun considered how to explain what had happened to the teen pilots. "Well, they went to the same restaurant you and I did. And you remember the warning you gave me at dinner," Athrun posed. Tyler nodded slowly but said nothing. So, Athrun continued, "They didn't get the same idea and so weren't aware of the tradition you mentioned."
Tyler was starting to put together a picture from what Athrun was saying. The three teens didn't know about alcohol being slipped into drinks that weren't in the family section of the menu. Thus, they had ordered drinks blissfully ignorant of what they were going to be drinking exactly. And by the time they could've become aware they were consuming alcohol, it was far too late for them to do anything. Their judgment would've been affected by the time they could've recognized the alcohol hitting their systems. Tyler put a hand to his temple, "Let me guess, they ordered drinks outside of the family section of the menu."
Athrun figured that Tyler would put together the picture of what had happened to the teens. It wasn't that hard to figure out once one knew the facts as they were. "That is my understanding with what I've seen, yes." Athrun paused for a moment organizing his thoughts to state his request for Tyler. "I was hoping you would assist us with these three. My sober companion and I thought it would be unwise for them to show up to the Minerva like they are currently. They would likely be punished for what happened even when they had no idea what they had gotten into."
Tyler was beginning to understand why Athrun had come to him for help. The three teens weren't supposed to consume alcohol and they hadn't been by choice. The teens didn't deserve to be accused of drinking alcohol while on shore leave. They hadn't known they had been given drinks containing alcohol. Thus, them returning to the Minerva was not a smart idea until they could sober up. So, Athrun had brought them to a place they could work on the sobering up. Tyler nodded, "Yeah, it wouldn't be fair for them to be punished for something they were caught up in and didn't knowingly do. But with them being somewhere between tipsy and drunk wouldn't help their case and they couldn't effectively defend themselves." Tyler glanced over the three teens again, "I take it you want to crash at my place then for the night, right?"
Athrun nodded, "If you don't mind."
Aila didn't want to impose the problem they were dealing with onto this guy if he wasn't able to help. That he was listening was quite nice of him and Aila was grateful for that. Aila appreciated Athrun's attempt to help the junior pilots the Minerva had at its disposal. But they could think of something else to help them should that be needed. So, Aila gave her assent as well, "Yes please, if we could but, we can find somewhere else if needed."
Tyler wasn't against helping in this situation. The three teens really had the bad luck tonight and that shouldn't be held against them. And Tyler did have some means which he could use to assist them with their drunken states. He had medication in his first-aid case which would help them get over the effects of the alcohol faster and make the hangovers they would have less impactful. Having them stay and then giving them a ride to the dock the Minerva was in would also give Tyler an excuse to get away from Sakura. Tyler wouldn't say no to a chance to get away from Sakura for a time. "Sure, they can stay," Tyler said after a long moment. "I would feel rather bad if I didn't do something to help." Tyler gestured to the living room, "If you get the three to the sofa in the living room, we can start there. I'll go fetch my first-aid case that has medication which will help them."
Athrun had hoped Tyler would have something which could help the teens in some way. He'd hoped his friend had something but hadn't been sure if Tyler would. So, Athrun went over to Shinn and helped him up and began assisting the teen toward the living room. Aila still had questions about what had been talked about. But she got that the guy was willing to help them with the situation they were in. She would accept that and be grateful that her group was getting some help. Thus, Aila began helping Lunamaria to go in the same direction as Athrun and Shinn had gone.
While the teens were being moved to the living room's sofa, Tyler went to fetch the case he had with the first-aid stuff he kept around. He had put it together for emergencies if they should come up, though nothing major had ever happened yet. But Tyler wanted to be prepared should he ever get into something bad, or if his friends be involved in the same. And he'd recently added to the case with the newly certified "hypo-spray" dispenser along with some medications that used that. The hypo-sprays were the new idea which had been designed to replace most injections and medications given that way. Tyler had gotten one of the dispensers after reading about them figuring it would be very handy. Tyler grabbed the case and headed back to the living room so he could get the teens on their way to recovery.
Tyler entered the living room and saw the three teens had been sat down on the sofa. It would make giving them the medication simpler. The hypo-spray was given at a person's neck and so access to it would be needed. The issue, as Tyler was seeing it, the teens' heads were down making access to the neck more difficult. It was understandable, with the teens drunk enough they were having serious trouble holding their heads up. Because of that, Tyler felt they would need assistance doing the point. Once they got the medication and got sleep, they would be doing much better. He put the case down and opened it up. Tyler fetched the hypo-spray dispenser and a small vial which contained the medication he was going to use.
Athrun and Aila had gotten the three teens to the sofa by the time Tyler had returned. Athrun glanced back at his friend who he saw had a sizable suitcase with him now. Tyler opened it and looked to be going through it likely looking for things he intended to use on the three drunken teens. A moment later, Tyler brought out a small device that Athrun had seen before. It was a medical tool that the Federation had invented late last year. It was supposed to be a simpler means to get medication into the human body that had needed injections before. The device had been certified two months ago as Athrun recalled. He had been trained to use it as part of his bodyguard duties. It wasn't exactly a surprise that Tyler had the device, he always seemed to have the newest tool.
Tyler slotted the vial into the dispenser and made his way over to the sofa. "Okay, as the three are having difficulty holding up their heads at the moment, I will need one of you to hold their heads up for me. I need to get at their necks to give them the medication I have which will help."
Aila had blinked when she had seen the device that the guy had taken out of the suitcase that he'd brought back. She'd never seen the device before, and she was hesitant on letting it be used on her juniors. "What is that device you have," Aila asked. "What does it do? I would rather not let something random be done to these three."
Tyler sighed at the response. He respected the woman for trying to be responsible for the three teens. However, Tyler was trying to help them, not do random things to them. He wouldn't hurt Shinn if he could help it, the kid had a good heart. So, Tyler held up the hypo-spray, "This is a medical device which was invented recently. It is meant to replace the need for injections for medication and does that well so far. The vial I inserted in it contains medication which will help the alcohol be processed more efficiently and fast. Plus, it will lessen the effects of the hangovers they will have tomorrow morning." Tyler paused for a moment, "If you would rather, they can experience the full consequences of what getting drunk is like, that's up to you. I'm just trying to help lessen those the best possible, so they don't have to deal with the full experience."
Athrun felt that Aila was just trying to help the three, but Tyler wouldn't do harm to them. So, he nodded, "I would agree with him on that. I've seen the device myself before returning to ZAFT and have been trained to use it in case of emergencies. It is a medical of device that is meant to help replace injections."
Aila would trust Athrun's judgment so stepped back to allow Tyler to get behind the teens. Athrun got in front of the Lunamaria and gently held her head up straight so Tyler would have clear access to her neck. Tyler positioned the dispenser at the center of the left side of Luna's neck and pressed the cone-structure at the end against the girl's skin. He pressed the dispenser's button and there was a soft hiss in response as the medication was dispensed. The process was repeated for the two boys in turn. Aila watched as the process went on, curious as to the device being used. It seemed to introduce medication through the skin in some fashion by what she would guess. The general idea was incredible and revolutionary in the medical field if that was what was being done.
Once done, Tyler stepped back and put away the hypo-spray in his first-aid case. Tyler glanced up at Athrun, "If you would divvy out who gets what room and/or piece of furniture each person will get to sleep on, it would be appreciated." Tyler sighed before continuing, "My night took a very unwelcome turn which has drained me pretty good sorry to say. There are three rooms as you know, so maybe two could share, doesn't exactly matter to me. I'll make breakfast tomorrow before giving you lot a ride to the dock your ship is in."
Athrun had no issue helping the three teens to a bed so they could sleep off the effects of the alcohol they had unknowingly consumed. There were four beds total as far as Athrun knew between the three bedrooms Tyler had besides his own. Athrun would take the sofa and give the beds to the others, he didn't mind that for a night. Tyler had been required to deal with Commander Clyne which would drain anyone. So, Athrun wouldn't hold his friend's passing off the task to him against Tyler. Thus, Athrun nodded in reply, "Sure, I have no problem doing that. We'll see you tomorrow morning then." With things settled, Tyler turned and picked up the first-aid suitcase and carried it with him down the hallway where he'd come down. He stored the case in the hall closet he kept it in. Then he headed back to his room so he could potentially get some sleep.
Athrun turned to Aila for her help to get the teens to beds would speed along the process. "Aila, if you wouldn't mind helping get these three to beds, it would be appreciated," Athrun stated. "We have four beds to work with. The far and nearest bedrooms have one bed each, so you and our other female companion can use those. The other two can use the two beds in the middle bedroom for the night."
Aila didn't have an issue helping get the teens to beds for them to sleep off the alcohol. And the arrangement that Athrun was suggesting would work out just fine. However, four beds meant that one of their group would be finding something else to sleep on for the night. She didn't want Athrun to just be expected to find something other than a bed for the night. "And what about you," Aila questioned. "That would leave one of use without a bed, and it sounds like you plan for that to be you."
Athrun had no issue taking the sofa for the night. Tyler's sofa was comfortable enough to sleep on, Athrun had done it before. The three younger pilots needed the bed more than Aila or Athrun did. And as a gentleman, Athrun would give the last bed to Aila rather than take it for himself. So, he waved a hand in dismissal, "It's fine, you can have the last bed," Athrun returned. "I will take the sofa for the night. It will be comfortable enough, I've slept on it before, so I know."
That was the end of the conversation. The two got down to work getting the three teens to beds so they could sleep off the alcohol. Aila got Lunamaria to the far bedroom and her onto the bed. Aila didn't even get to the door before she heard Luna mumbling before she began snoring softly. Athrun was getting Shinn to the middle bedroom and to one of the beds in the room. The kid already looked to be pretty much out of it before he hit the bed. Athrun then went back to the living room and worked on getting Rey to the same bedroom Shinn was in. Rey was mumbled something before he was asleep on the bed by the time Athrun left the room. Aila once more tried to say Athrun should take the last bedroom. However, Athrun said she would take it and he would use the sofa in the living room.
Athrun made his way to the living room and sat down on the sofa. He knew it was better that he was on the sofa than anyone else. The "wake up" call that they would all get tomorrow morning would be Sakura chasing Tyler. Athrun felt it was better he be the first to see the point as he knew what was going on while the others didn't know a thing. He could answer or placate questions while Tyler dealt with Sakura. Athrun could cover for his friend better than others trying to figure out what was going on. Plus, the last thing their group needed were for any of them panicking with facing Commander Clyne. Sakura still had a feared reputation within ZAFT even after her retirement. He doubted that would change if any found out that Commander Clyne was working with the Federation's military now. So, with that in mind, Athrun settled down on the sofa to get some sleep. Tomorrow morning promised to be non-dull, and if it was anything else, Athrun would be shocked.
Tyler had made his way back to his room while Athrun was getting his guests to beds. When he arrived, Tyler found Sakura was still asleep in his bed, which was why there were four beds for the guests. That didn't make the situation Tyler was in any nicer to him, but he was trying to look at the bright side of things. He slipped back into his bed hoping to get some sleep before the morning came. Tyler would be making breakfast for his guests and then giving them a ride to the Minerva. Less than a minute after Tyler slipped back into his bed, he felt arms circling around him. Then he was turned around to face Sakura who had cracked open her eyes slightly. Sakura followed that up by hugging him close and kissing him before she cuddled with him. Tyler was left to settle the best he could so he could get some sleep while Sakura was cuddling him.

And that is where I will leave off for this Phase and pick up there in the next one. Okay there is an amount to talk about from this Phase. First, I know in the original version this is but a part of a phase, and I have expanded on this which had ended out splitting the last phase and this one. The reason I split it was the length, as personal policy I try to keep under 30k words per phase as I can. And with some of the detail and changes I did, this part became longer than I thought it would when I started writing this Phase. But enough about that stuff, let's move onto the highlights and explanation from this Phase.
So, overall, this phase is the dinner scene and the night at Tyler's as you readers have seen. And in general, there wasn't a great deal which changed for the events other than me adding details. With that in mind, I will start with the meet up scene and go on from there in my iterations and explanations. Now, I want to point out one thing that is mentioned before the meet up. Athrun mentions that he has more formal clothes which Tyler suggested he wear to the dinner. I want to point out the inference of Athrun going shopping with Cagalli in the past which he got the clothes from. I would say that most of us wouldn't be surprised that Cagalli would want Athrun to have clothes for "special" occasions and just in general while he was her bodyguard. Any female readers can correct me should I be wrong, but from my observations, ladies want "their" man to look good while around them for other to see. Thus, why Athrun have formal clothes to wear when the need comes up.
I would like to point out one other thing which involves the other pilots the Minerva has other than Matt and Athrun. The group of four are going out at the same time as Athrun is and to the same restaurant as it happens. Shinn had done research into where he wanted his group to go out for dinner before the Minerva arrived at Shira. He did so with it being a popular place and not necessarily cheap with pricing. Shinn did that to get back at Aila not telling him better what he had to do around Gulnahan. It is coincidence that the place Shinn chose is the same that Tyler and Athrun go to. Sure, it plays a part in the latter of the Phase, but the choice was by "coincidence" in the story. Shinn does include Rey and Luna for the dinner he gets from Aila, they are his friends after all. Both are okay with that, even if Luna does feel sorry that Aila was being put on the spot for it.
Moving onto the meet up, Tyler does pick up Athrun with his car, that is a given. However, Athrun is spotted by Aila and the three teens heading to dinner themselves. Now remember, Athrun hasn't met the teens as a pilot of the Minerva at this point. They only encountered him when he, Cagalli, and Quatra were on the Minerva around Armory One. Luna recognizes Athrun from that event and doesn't remember that event fondly. She still thinks Athrun works for the Federation and so doesn't like the fact he "popped" up around where the Minerva is docked. Thus, why she reacted the way that she did. Yet, Aila does correct Luna and reveals who Athrun was and his position. And keep in mind that like Tyler, Athrun has a reputation due to what he did during the latter part of the Alliance-PLANT War.
Shifting the what goes down at the restaurant, as stated Tyler has connections there to get a table and a better rate for the bill. That is explained when Athrun asked the question of Tyler for all of you readers. But let's move to the conversation that goes on between the two as that is one of the things that comes out of this scene. A few subjects come up in the conversation which I would like to point out. The first is the notable change within the Alliance which has been shown and not talked about. The Federation has noticed signs that the Alliance has gotten allies they didn't have before. Understand, the Federation hasn't been able to connect LOGOs just yet to the Alliance. That shows LOGOs is aware it is best to cover their tracks and not have the Federation know about them. The other subject about what the Minerva will face in the next phase or two, I'll get back to in those phases. This is just a foreshadowing for what is to come. The
The other thing which I will mention about this scene is the other group from the Minerva and what happens with them. As I said, Shinn had researched this place for dinner. Shinn had liked what he had read about the restaurant when he looked into it. Yes, the pricing for the restaurant isn't cheap, but nor is it like a gourmet level place either. But Shinn has also sampled food like the restaurant serves and learned to love it before enlisting in ZAFT. The food isn't just the local cuisine but is made from scratch, which makes a difference from store bought stuff. Plus, the nightlife of Shira is a part of the tourism that the Republic has, even if not everything that happens is stated beforehand. I am of course referring to the alcohol sampling which happens to the teens, but I'll get to that.
In the "transition" to the other half of the Phase, there is Tyler leaving or rather running away from Sakura. There was a change or two for the encounter Athrun had with Sakura which I want to mention. Remember, Athrun is one of those select few who know how different Sakura is around Tyler from the expected behavior she is known for. Also, Athrun is among those that know Sakura isn't one to take refusal of cooperation well and not punish them for it. As mentioned before, Sakura works for the Federation and so can use the Information Network to find out when Tyler isn't on a mission and potentially free. Thus, why she is looking for him as the Normandy has no standing orders. Finding Athrun was just a step for Sakura to get to Tyler, nothing more than that. Sakura may not be fond of Athrun, but since the engagement to Lacus was nullified, she doesn't come down on him as hard.
Now, Sakura is focused on getting to Tyler, keep that in mind for the short exchange between Sakura and Athrun. The way that Sakura puts out the point to Athrun is what one would expect from her as the Black Zephyr. Sakura wants to get to Tyler to spend time with him that is her focus. That is the only reason Sakura is willing to give Athrun a chance to change his answer to her. I state for the record, Sakura normally isn't inclined to give an option to change answers to those she deals and works with. Athrun's reaction kind of says the point the best I would say. I would also state that Athrun not helping Sakura shows how good of a friend he is to Tyler. He knows he would be punished by Sakura, and her punishments are harsher than what others would give.
I thought about having Sakura actually follow through with the punishment to show what that would involve. But the Phase was getting long so I decided against doing that and instead had Aila appear. Aila's timely appearance saves Athrun from what Sakura would've done to him, I will say that straight out. That moves to Athrun helping the other pilots with the situation they got themselves into unknowingly. As Tyler says, the alcohol sampling is an unsaid tradition, emphasis on the unsaid. Athrun figures out what happened to the teens of course and proposes the solution. I figured Aila could have Matt come up with a story others would be told so they wouldn't get into trouble. But once everything is setup, the group heads to Tyler's house where the rest of the Phase takes place.
Now, to the part I figure many of you readers enjoyed going over, which is Tyler and Sakura's scene. The scene may end in the same way as the original, but it takes a slightly different path to get there. Tyler does his best to secure his house, but Sakura of course finds a way to get in. I would point out that Sakura has learned that she needs to be stealthy to get to Tyler when she pursues him. Also, she has been around Tyler's place enough to know it well and not be heard easily when moving around it. But as you readers knew, Sakura wasn't going to take no from Tyler any time soon. The chase is a little more involved than it was in the original. We also get a view of Sakura and how she feels about Tyler even with her pursuing him.
Moving to Athrun's group arriving after what happened between Tyler and Sakura. I added the part where Tyler helps with "medication" for the teens. And yes, hypo-spray was taken from Star Trek and is being used in my story as a medical device. Also, the Federation are ahead in medical science for those who would ask so hypo-spry and a medication which can help with hangovers and alcohol processing are possible.
In conclusion, this phase came faster than I though it would, but I'm fine with how it turned out in the end. Sorry it is as long as it is, but as a writer, I go from point A to point B in a story rather than doing one scene type thing. Anyway, some of you please take the time to write a review and tell me what you think of the Phase and the story in general. You can also send me questions and constructive criticism to help improve what I put out. I still do not hold that I will keep posting two weeks between as much as I would love to. Peace out until the next Phase!
