Chapter 12: Honesty.

I was sitting in my car in the campus parking lot. I got here almost forty minutes early. All that courage I'd had two days ago. Had long fizzled out. Everything I had done and said was replaying in my head. How was I supposed to face him now?

"God, this is so embarrassing."

I heard a knock on my window. I looked up and saw that it was Inuyasha. I banged my head against my steering wheel, the horn going off.

"You've got to be kidding me," I mumbled.

"I'm not going away. Not until you speak to me. I'll chase your car if I have to Kagome ."

I got out of the car, closing the door behind me. This was going to happen at some point. Better sooner than later I guess. I sighed and just looked at him. He had a blank expression on his face.

"What is the matter Inuyasha?"

"You spent the night with him."

"Him? You mean with Sesshomaru?"

"Yes with-! Look, don't play stupid. What are you getting at here? Are you doing this to hurt me, to get under my skin?"

"I'm not doing anything because of you."

He shook his head. "I knew this whole teaching assistant thing was a load of crap."

"No, it isn't. I am his teaching assistant."

"So you're just fucking him on the side then."

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "I don't have time for this," I said, trying to walk away.

He blocked my path. "No, you've been ignoring me and dodging me. You need to make time, just like you do for him. Sesshomaru? Kagome, really? If you were trying to make me jealous you fuck one of my friends, not my brother!"

I put my hands on my hips. "One, I'm not trying to make you jealous, and what is that supposed to mean? There is nothing wrong with Sesshomaru. If I decide to sleep with him I can. That is my choice and it has nothing to do with you."

"Decide to? That means you haven't done it." He put his hand on his stomach. "That means you still care about me. You just wanted me to pay attention. I knew you would never do anything like that to hurt me. Just come back to me and we can forget this whole thing happened. We can go back to the way it used to be. I can even keep Kikyo out of the way if that's what you want."

I blinked a few times, trying to process what I'd heard.

"Are you out of your mind? Come back to you? So you could play with my feelings? For what!? So I could make you feel better about yourself like I always have. What? You want me to come by your side because someone is interested in me. Do you know how sick that is? You haven't even really apologized for all the fucked up shit you said to me. Hell for the fucked up way you've always treated me. Not that I would accept it anyway. This proves that you only care about yourself, and never once thought about what I feel. I will never forget those shitty things you said to me. So you can keep Kikyo as close as you want because I will never be by your side again. You've abused the soft spot I've had for you long enough. I Will never let you do it again." I started to walk away, but I turned back to say one final thing. "Oh and just so you know. I wanted, no I want to fuck your brother. Even at this very moment, he is who I am thinking about. But he wants to wait. So, you have him to thank for now." I said storming off.

Inuyasha had pissed me off so much I could barely even focus during class. I was too busy thinking about other things I should have said; like if I should hit him. I groaned, running my fingers through my hair. I looked up and saw no one else in the lecture hall but Sesshomaru and me.

He walked over to me. "Follow me into my office please."

I stood up and grabbed my things, following him. I took a seat in front of his desk. I heard the door close. He stooped down in front of me holding my hands.

"You are upset."

I relaxed a bit. "I'm sorry. I just…"

"Was it Inuyasha?"

"How did you know?"

"I received an angry phone call before you arrived in class. Apparently, you said some interesting words ."

I could feel my face get hot. "Well, he had it coming."

He gave me a small smile. "Come to dinner tonight."

"Dinner? Dinner with your parents?"

He nodded. "Besides, they are already expecting you."

"Inuyasha will be there."

He nodded. "He will."

"I do not want to see him."

"I will be there with you."

I gave him a small smile. "I guess if you put it that way."

Sesshomaru had been kind enough to swing by a store to grab me something to wear. The clothes and shoes he picked were expensive. He wouldn't allow me to pay for them either. Despite how much I protested. We'd gotten ready at his house together. We made sure to grab flowers too. We'd reached his parent's house right on time. I walked beside him up to the front door. I was nervous. What would they think if I showed up with him like this? That we were together. I mean, were we dating? What was this? Did I like him enough to start dating? Did I like him at all? I felt a hand on my shoulder. I nearly jumped out of my skin. I looked over at Sesshomaru. He kissed me on the cheek.

"Relax, there is no need to worry," he said, dropping his hand.

He rang the bell, and not too long after Totosai opened the door.

"Welcome Sesshomaru, lady Kagome."

Lady Kagome?

I smiled. "Hello Totosai," I said as I stepped inside.

Sesshomaru and I headed over to the dining room. Inuyasha was there, surprisingly without Kikyo. I gave the flowers to Izayoi. I hugged them both and sat next to Sesshomaru. I could feel Inuyasha's eyes burning holes through me, but I didn't even look at him.

"Well, this is a first," Izayoi said.

"What is?" I asked

"The two of you showing up here together," InuTaisho said.

Inuyasha scoffed, but I paid no mind to it.

"I guess you're right. This is the first time."

"Sesshomaru tells me that you are his new TA. How is that going?" he asked.

"Just fine actually. I enjoy the job, and it pays well. Seeing as that is my last class to graduate. It worked out perfectly."

"I bet it did," Inuyasha mumbled.

"I remember when Kagome was little. She used to have the biggest crush on Sesshomaru." Izayoi chimed in.

I instantly felt my face get hot. "What? I did? I don't remember anything like that."

She smiled. "Of course, but you were so little back then. I remember it like it was yesterday. You're probably just too young to remember. You used to follow him around like a lost puppy, and bother him whenever you would come over with Inuyasha."

I buried my face in my hands. "Oh my God, that is so embarrassing."

I looked up seeing his parents smiling at me. They always loved to tease me about things. I could see Sesshomaru smirking out of the corner of my eye.

Inuyasha folded his arms. "So, why did you two show up here together?"

"Is there something bothering you Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru asked.

"Don't play stupid!"

"Inuyasha, don't speak to your brother like that." his mother scolded.

Inuyasha folded his arms. "No, he needs to tell you the truth. They both do."

"Sesshomaru, what is the meaning of this?" InuTaisho asked.

"He's fucking Kagome!"

The room went silent. I could feel their eyes on us. I balled up my fists. Sesshomaru held my hand under the table. I took a deep breath.

"Sesshomaru and I are not sleeping together. Even if we were, I don't see how that would be any of your business."

"You're his student Kagome! That's against the law or something."

"She is who I have chosen," Sesshomaru said calmly.

I could see the color drain from Inuyasha's face. Izayoi gave me a small smile. It makes sense. She had been in my position before.

"Then it can't be helped," she said. "Inuyasha I understand Kagome is your friend, but you must let it go. You need to let her go."

"Let go?! No! Kagome is supposed to be in love with me! Not screwing around with my older brother. He always gets everything. It's always been that way since we were kids. Isn't that enough? Kagome was the one thing that was mine, and he had to come and take her too!"

InuTaisho banged his hand on the table. "That's enough Inuyasha! She is not yours."

Inuyasha left the table and stormed out of the house. I sighed. Sesshomaru still hadn't let go of my hand and I didn't want him to. I looked up and he was looking at me.

He gave my hand a light squeeze. "Are you alright?"

I nodded.

"Kagome."

I looked over at InuTaisho. "Yes."

"You know what it means for a demon to choose someone correct?"

"I do."

"How do you feel about that?"

"Honesty, I'm still trying to figure that out."

InuTaisho turned to Sesshomaru. "Do you understand she is not obligated to return your affection right? If she does choose to pick you. It may take even years."

He nodded. "If that is the case. I am willing to wait for her. I have told her this. If she does not return my feelings, then that is just something I will have to deal with."

I could feel my face get hot. How was it so easy for him to say those things out loud? InuTaisho sighed.

"Well, then you two have my blessing, but there are some things I wish to discuss with Sesshomaru."

Both of them left the dining room, leaving Izayoi and me behind. She was staring at me and had a smile on her face. I could feel it coming. She was about to give me the third degree.
