RAIFSG-Chapter 17
With Christmas quickly approaching, Rory was in a tailspin. She was trying to get all the gifts wrapped, trying to stop Logan from buying more gifts, as well as trying to pack. Gloria, Logan's housekeeper, is now working between Logan's apartment and Rory's house. Logan started off hinting that Gloria could start helping. He thought Rory would be a hard sell, but after the first hint, Rory told him to go ahead. With 4 children, both of their busy schedules, she said it was a good idea. They are waiting until after the house remodel is finished to officially move in.
Rory and Logan decided since Christmas is on a Monday, they will leave the Wednesday after Christmas to go to Logan's house in the Hamptons. Chloe will be with Tristan Christmas night and the week after., He and Amy are staying with his parents in the Hamptons that week also. Their houses are close enough that Chloe and Josey can go back and forth. Honor and her family will also be joining them.
Construction on the house started last week. They are working on the pool house and the kitchen to start with . They are remodeling the pool house for a guest house or an office and the kitchen is just getting a makeover. Replacing appliances and painting cabinets. Eating take out or at Logan's apartment was working great.
Rory had two weeks to get everything done. She was exhausted. "Hello," She said, answering the phone while wrapping a present.
"Hey," Lorelia said. "Whatcha doing? Can you believe it hasn't snowed this year. I have been sniffing the air and I can't smell it at all. I am afraid….,"
That is all Rory heard because Chloe and Josey came busting in the door. "Girls, Girls," Rory yelled. "Get out. I am wrapping presents. Please. I will be out in a minute." Both girls scurried off.
"Mom, Listen, I have got to go. There is no telling what they want." Rory said and hung up the phone.
"I wasn't finished. I need to know…..? Lorelia said, then looked at her phone. "Well, they say talking to yourself is a sign of genius."
When Logan got home, well his soon to be home, everyone was ready to go get the tree. Rory, Gloria and the kids decorated the house, putting up the artificial trees, garland, bows, candles, bells and other decorations where they needed to go, leaving the family room for the main tree. It will not be artificial.
They were on the way to Luke's to eat and meet Lorelia. She and Luke are going with them to find a tree. They are going to Landmark Tree Farm. It was Saturday the 16th, less than 2 weeks before Christmas. This is later than Rory usually goes, but this is the first open Saturday everyone was available.
The Huntzburger kids were still getting used to the Stars Hollow gang. It takes time. They didn't like the way everyone was watching them.. Luke had to get on to his regular customer for staring. Lorelia didn't arrive until after they ordered. She stopped at the counter to kiss Luke before joining them at the table in the back of the diner.
"I wasn't sure what time I was supposed to meet you. You hung up on me." She said pouting as she sat down.
"Mom, we had already agreed on a time. Why would you think I would change the time and not tell you?" Rory asked. Giving her mother a shank of her head.
"Lorelia," Logan said, getting her attention. "Have you already got your tree for the inn?"
Before she could answer, Josey spoke up. "Yeah, Dad, you should see it. It is 20 ft tall. It touches the ceiling."
"It's not that tall," Mike said.
Mitch looked at his sister's face and added. "But it's close, right Mike?" He elbowed him in the side. He nodded his head.
"We put everything but the real stuff up after Thanksgiving. Sookie and Jackson got the real stuff the week after. Stop by and see for yourself." Lorelia said. "We can get some hot cocoa after finding the tree."
"Sounds good to me." Logan said. All the kids were smiling.
Luke along with Steve brought out the food. "Are we going to need to take two vehicles?" He asked.
"Yeah, we put the seat back in the back of my Tahoe. We can all fit, but then we wouldn't have a way to get the tree back to the house." Rory said. Luke smiled. He likes to be needed.
"Okay, I will be ready as soon as Kwan gets back from his deliveries." Luke said.
They ate and talked. Lorelai told them again she could not smell the snow. Then she had to explain to Logan, Mike and Mitch that she could smell snow. Of course they laughed, but had their doubts.
Logan rode with Luke because Lorelai insisted she ride with Rory and she was not going to sit in the back seat. Logan wasn't sure how Luke felt about him and Rory getting back together. He didn't know what to talk about so he thought he would start with the diner in a hardware store.
Luke, not being much of a talker, filled him in on how that happened. It was too long before they got to tree farm
Due to no snow, they rode on the back of a wagon to find the perfect tree. It took longer than Luke or Logan wanted, but the kids were smiling and having fun. Lorelia and Rory too, so they didn't complain.
After loading up the tree in Luke's truck, they head to the Inn for hot cocoa and to check out the decorations. Sookie met them at the door. She already had the cocoa and cookies ready, she even had a few brownies left from lunch. Before they left, they had agreed to come back to the inn for Sunday lunch.
