Chapter 4: Expedition to Onix Island!
"Traveling to Eastern Unova, in order to compete in the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup, our heroes' first stop is Cynthia's vacation home, in Undella Town, where our heroes have been reunited with Dawn and Piplup. And some pre-tournament special training awaits them all."
"Oshawott, use Water Gun!" Ash called out as Oshawott unleashed a stream of water out of his mouth, hitting a target that was floating above the water. "Yeah, that's the way it's done." Ash cheered as we now see him, Oshawott, Pikachu, and Logan down on the beach training. "But we're gonna need more power if we want to make it through the Junior Cup." He said with Oshawott and Pikachu agreeing, and Logan closed his eyes in thought as he was trying to think of something.
"Although, if you want Oshawott or any of your other Pokémon pals to make some effective hits to your opponent, maybe try to get them to increase their stamina by trying to avoid any incoming attacks they might take, that way they can be able to be faster when it comes to avoiding physical attacks." Logan suggested it as Ash thought about it.
"That might work, but well save that for later, right now we should focus on having to increase the effectiveness on their moves." Ash said, as Logan agreed to that.
While they were training, Meloetta was floating above the cliff, being amazed at the work they were putting in.
"Excadrill, Fraxure! Let's show them what we can do too!" Iris called out as both her Pokémon clashed with each other with their claws.
"And let's do the same, Pansage." Cilan said to his partner, agreeing with him. Piplup soon came down the stairs from the vacation house, wearing a red and yellow striped floatie with Dawn right behind him.
"Training every single day can be such a bore. I know, I vote for some R and R." Dawn suggested as she came down while waving her arms up and down and then coming right up to Iris.
"Iris, listen to this. There's a deserted island near here, so why don't we all go and check it out?" She said to her new Unova friend as Piplup was jumping around happily, not looking where he was going and accidentally bumped into Fraxure, making the dragon Pokémon to temporarily lose its balance.
"Deserted Island? That sounds great." Iris said as Cilan came by, having Pansage on his head.
"It's like going to a resort without tourists." He said as his partner agreed with him, and with Pikachu and Oshawott having their eyes glimmer in awe.
"That actually sounds like a good idea Dawn. I see no harm in doing a little sightseeing." Logan said.
"No way. We've got training to do." Ash declared as Pikachu and Oshawott sighed in sadness over their trainers' answer, and his friends giving him unhappy looks.
"Ash Ketchum, you're always such a party pooper." Dawn said as she soon held out her right pointer finger in the air.
"Are you even sure that's a good idea to keep training?" Logan questioned his friend from Kanto.
"Of course, I mean there will be strong opponents once the tournament starts, so we need to make sure that we don't lose any momentum." Ash replied as Logan sighed and shook his head side by side.
"Look, I get what you mean about trying to become stronger, but that doesn't mean you and your pals need to work hard all the time. It's important that you need to rest every once in a while, or else you or your team might feel some pressure in the middle of a battle. Besides, resting is always an important part of training." Logan said to Ash, as he just noticed something about the way he spoke. "Where have I heard that before?" He asked himself out loud.
"Maybe some of your memories are coming back by themselves." Iris theorized.
"I guess so, but I still got some way to go to remember." Logan answered.
"Anyway, for your information, Jervis just told me a few tidbits that might change your mind. He told me a special Onix lives there."
That caught Ash's and Logans attention.
"Special Onix." Ash asked with stars in his eyes as he got up to Dawns face. "Did he say what's special about it, did he?" he asked.
"No" Dawn simply replied.
"I think I've seen an Onix." Iris said.
"Uh, what exactly is an Onix?" Logan questioned, scratching his head.
'Here, have a look.' Ash said as he got out his Poke Dex as both Iris and Logan looked and the screen and they see a Pokémon that resembles a snake with a fin on its head, while also made entirely made out of boulders.
"Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon. By twisting its large and powerful body, Onix can quickly bore through the ground at 50 miles per hour." The Poke Dex stated, amazing both trainers.
"And they say if you're lucky enough to meet the special Onix, something will happen to you that's totally amazing." Dawn informed.
"Then I want to meet that special Onix right away." Ash said, causing both Pikachu and Oshawott to become cheerful again, with some shine in their eyes with Meloetta floating down next to them.
"So what are we waiting for?!" Iris called out.
"Great, then that means it's expedition time." Cilan called out.
"Yes, then it's all started. Let's go!" Dawn cried out with her right arm raised into the air.
'I will be your guide to the island. Please get on board' Jervis said as our young heroes started to board Cynthia's boat.
"Oh, wow. We're going by boat. I'm totally psyched!" Ash cheered in excitement.
"What a kid." Iris said.
"I sure hope he doesn't go overboard." Dawn agreed with her and hoped Ash didn't get carried away as they both shared a laugh with Ash giving them a look of shock to what the girls said about him.
"Knock it off." Ash said as Pikachu, Oshawott, Piplup, Logan, and Fraxure looked at them arguing with the four Pokémon gave a laugh, as Logan was confused on what their arguing about.
Suddenly, Meloetta appeared from her invisibility as she made her way to the four trainers and Logan at the dock.
"Hey, Meloetta." Ash greeted.
"Well, what brings you all the way out here?" Logan asked as the Pokémon were happy to see them, especially Piplup and Oshawott as they had hearts in their eyes. Soon Meloetta came over to her human friends.
"We're going to a deserted island, Meloetta." Ash said.
"Would you like to come with us, Meloetta?" Logan asked as Meloetta nodded her head as Piplup and Oshawott got more excited as steam came out of their nostrils, then started butting heads together.
Soon our young heroes climbed aboard the boat as we now see them in the middle of the sea.
"Jervis, do you know what kind of special Onix lives there?" Ash asked.
"I regret to inform you, that all I know is that there are many Onix living on the island and that one is a special Onix of some kind. I can't get any more specific than that" Jervis replied as Logan started to grow a little nervous about what Jervis just said while the others were curious.
"But is it true it's good luck to see a special Onix?" Cilan asked, with Jervis saying that is what the tourists say as Ash noticed that Logan looked a little tense.
"Hey Logan, are you alright?" Ash asked his friend as his friend heard him as he shook his head a little bit and turned to him.
"To be honest, I'm just feeling a little concerned about being on the island when we find the special Onix, I mean being ambushed by that Bisharp when I woke up was one thing, but being possibly ambushed by a bunch of Onix in their own turf, that's what I'm more worried about." Logan explained as he was slightly shaking.
"Hey, no need to worry. We'll be sure to be careful and try to stay together." Dawn said as Logan started to ease up a little.
"There's the island up ahead." Jervis announced as they all got a good look of the island up ahead.
"Wow, it's pretty big." Dawn said with the wind blowing on her hair as she had one of her hands on her head to keep the wind from blowing her hair. Suddenly, a Staryu emerged from the sea as it made a jump over the boat. But that was where the fun continued, as a giant Wailord emerged from a short distance as it made a jump and then crashed into the water with a splash as they continued making their way to shore.
We soon see a helicopter with the Team Rocket logo fly over the sea. Within the vehicle, we see the three villains as they appear to be searching for something.
"We're approaching point X, so stand by with water sensors." Jessie declared while looking at a spherical scanner.
"All set and ready to drop 'em anytime." Meowth called out as he was working on the digital keyboard.
"Ready to initiate test. And go!" James stated as he pushed the controls away from him as the copter continued its course.
Piplup, Oshawott, Pansage, Fraxure, and Pikachu soon jumped off the boat as the group made landfall, while Fraxure tripped and fell on his stomach with getting help from Meloetta to get back up. As Oshawott and Piplup were racing against each other, Jervis dropped of the group and say that he will be sure to pick them up before dinnertime.
"Thanks Jervis." Dawn said happily as they were about to start their fun. "Oh, yes, one more thing." Jervis called out catching their attention. "Being very careful is of the utmost importance." He warned as they started to feel a little uneased right now.
"There was nothing light or frothy about that." Cilan commented as he had his eyes closed.
"You're not the only one, mate." Logan said to his green haired friend as they now started their fun. We can see where the Pokémon were building a sand mountain with Oshawott chasing after a Pokémon that resembles an orange and dull crab, scuttling away. Then the crab Pokémon decided to be done being chased and used one of its claws to clamp down hard on Oshawott's tail, crying out in pain, as the others were laughing at the Otter Pokémon's misfortune.
As Piplup was laughing at his rival for Meloetta's heart, he did not see another crab Pokémon that slightly resembles the other crab sneaking up behind him, and using its claw to grab his head and lifted him out of his floatie. The small, blue penguin was arguing with who did that, and saw the crab, which scared him, causing him to run away with Oshawott who still had the crab stuck on him still being chased by the Crab Pokémon's as the others were watching. Causing them to all laugh at how funny it was, with Iris asking who those Pokémon were as Dawn brought out her Poke Dex to them.
"Krabby, the River Crab Pokémon. Living on sandy beaches, in burrows it digs, Krabby can grow back its pincers if they broke off in battle." The Poke Dex explained as it then shows the image of the bigger crab. "Kingler, the Pincer Pokémon and the evolved form of Krabby. Kinglers larger pincer has immensely powerful crushing strength, but because of its weight, it is difficult to aim."
"Amazing." Iris said as they started to hear a grumbling noise and turned to look at Ash, as he gave an embarrassed look as he held his stomach, showing that he was hungry.
"Ha! No wonder why I constantly see you eating, you must have room as big as a black hole." Logan joked about Ash's constant eating and laughed a little, when suddenly a slightly louder grumbling can be heard, and Logan stopped laughing as he suddenly held his stomach as well, much to his misdemeanor.
"I thought you might be hungry, so I brought us all some lunch. It will take some time to prepare, so why don't you all go play on the beach." Cilan said as the others liked the idea, while not seeing both Oshawott and Piplup looking tired and tending to their minor injuries from both Krabby and Kingler.
"I'm going for a swim." Ash yelled out as everyone started to get ready to have some fun. As Cilan was preparing lunch, we happen to see what our young group are in their swimsuits are doing things like splashing each other with water, some of the Pokémon just relaxing, even doing some fun like Pikachu riding on a surfboard and catching some waves, while we see Ash and Logan swimming underwater with some goggles and seeing the vast Pokémon swimming around. As all of this was happening, Meloetta was sitting on a rock looking out to the vast sea, and we see Piplup with hearts in his eyes as he saw how beautiful Meloetta looks, but was suddenly caught off guard by Oshawott, who fired his Water Gun at the Penguin Pokémon, which caused him to laugh at how easy it was to hit him, while not knowing that Piplup fired his own Water Gun as a little payback and laughed at him. Soon they got into each other's faces as they started to argue, while not noticing that wave was coming at them, which caused them to slightly panic, while Fraxure was having fun and Pikachu coming in while riding his board.
As everyone was having fun, Cilan called out that lunch was ready. As soon as everyone got there, they were amazed by the food they saw and how everyone was going to feel great from eating their meal.
"You're an awesome chef, Cilan." Dawn complimented. "He'd give Brock a run for his money, right?" Dawn asked Ash, agreeing with her, as Iris, Cilan, and Logan are confused for who Brock is.
"Who's Brock, Ash?" Iris questioned as Logan thought that Brock is an old friend of theirs.
"He's a good friend I was on my journey with for a long time. He was always making meals for us" Ash explained as a flashback showed a young man with a medium tan on him with spiky brown hair, eyes closed, and wears a green collared shirt, an open orange and black vest, light grey pants, and blue and white travel shoes cooking in a pot outdoors.
"And right now, Brock's studying to become a Pokémon Doctor." Dawn explained as Piplup and Oshawott are holding their foods while walking and looking at each other with a mad expression on their faces as they march their way towards Meloetta, who was sitting on a rock.
"A Pokémon doctor? How cool." Iris said, while not noticing the two water Pokémon offering to share their food with Meloetta with blushes on their faces, causing both of them to start arguing with each other, then causing them to wrestle with each other inside a small sand cloud. Soon Pansage, Fraxure, and Pikachu noticed the commotion and went over to stop the fighting with Pikachu getting in the middle to stop them, while Pansage holds Piplup and Fraxure holds Oshawott.
As the struggle temporarily stopped, Oshawott accidentally dropped his shell and went to pick it up and placed it back on his stomach, with Pikachu sighing in relief that the battle between the two water Pokémon has temporarily stopped.
"Awesome. Nothing like a full stomach." Ash said as he started to stretch as he and the others finished their lunch.
"Which means, it's time to get busy." Iris said
"You can say that again, after eating that delicious meal, now I feel like finding that Special Onix." Logan said as he gave a light tap to his now full stomach.
"Yeah, let's do it." Dawn cried out as she had her fist in the air, getting some cheers from the other Pokémon.
We soon find our heroes to be fully dressed and have left the beach to find the Rare Onix, and are right now standing outside of a giant cave.
"Onix live in caves like this, right, Cilan?" Ash asked Cilan, as he said that is right.
"That's not always true." Dawn said as Iris was giving a dumbfounded look, and Iris saying how like a little kid, he thinks he knows everything.
"I guess some things never change." Dawn said as she shook her head, causing the two girls to laugh, and Ash, having had enough of the girl's making fun of him, walked forward into the cave. While Ash started to make his way in, Logan felt that something was off and went up to Ash and grabbed him by his left shoulder to stop him before he took another step.
"Huh, what are you doing, Logan?" Ash asked as his friend squinted his eyes to see a little better. "I don't know, but I think there's something coming right towards us." He said with a small serious expression as the others looked a little scared as they tried to see what was inside the cave.
Sure enough, a flock of Woobats started making their way out of the cave and startling our group, even causing Ash to trip a little as everyone came over to see if he was all right.
"Just a bunch of Woobat. What a little kid." Iris said as she and Dawn gave a small laugh. Causing the boys to look at them, and how Cilan says about the girls some common ground with each other. As they continued to trek through the cave, Iris turned towards Logan. "Hey, Logan, how did you know about the Woobat coming right towards us?" Iris asked as Logan was in thought of how to describe it.
"I don't know how to exactly tell you Iris, but all that I do know was that I felt an unfamiliar presence coming right towards us, like I can somehow sense some danger if they would mostly cause trouble." Logan explained as his friends looked at him in surprise, causing them to have their own theories for his explanation.
"I wonder if your just a natural at this kind of stuff?" Ash theorized, but Logan shook his head.
"I don't think so, I mean if that were possible, wouldn't you have met some trainers that seems to have a key instinct in battles?" Logan asked as the others were giving it some thought, and agreed with their friend's possible logic as they continued down the cave.
"I can't believe how large the cave is." Cilan stated.
"Well, I'll bet you it's the perfect size for an Onix to hang around in." Ash stated as Cilan is shocked about the possibility of how large an Onix is.
"I don't wanna freak anybody out, but I've heard rumors of Onix being up to 30 feet long, and as wide as this cave." Dawn stated, causing Iris, Fraxure, and Logan to freak out a bit.
"So, what are we gonna do if we happen to run into one here?" Iris asked in a scared tone, while Logan was looking around the cave, feeling a slight familiarity while being in the area.
"[laughs] Easy, run real fast." Dawn said in a small giggle.
"That was not very funny." Iris said as hers and Fraxure's eyes are slit out of fear.
Cilan happened to notice how Logan has not spoken up in quite a while. "Hey Logan, is everything alright." he asked his friend as Logan did not look back and placed his hand on the wall.
"I can't explain it, but there's something about this cave that feels ... familiar." He described.
"By familiar, do you mean that you went through something like this and having to deal with something scary?" Iris asked in a scared and concerned tone.
"I don't think I had to deal with the scary, it was more like I came to a place, just like this, as though to help improve myself." Logan said as he soon had a thought. "Maybe the reason why I'm able to notice uneasy feelings, is that maybe I was trained to hone my skills." He explained as he soon had a vivid flashback of being surrounded by other people, who have their attention towards a single person. This person has a tall and strong build, spiky red hair, wearing a red vest with yellow fur on the collar, a black top mostly covering his chest, brown pants with two red stripes, and black shoes. But what makes him more distinctive is him giving the group a huge smile, showing that he has sharp teeth, and a necklace that is shaped like a golden 'X'.
Before the group can process what their friend just said, they started to feel some rumbling, causing the group to get scared, thinking that it's an earthquake, when suddenly, Logan felt a presence as he and the others soon saw a pair of glowing eyes coming their way, soon revealing to be an Onix charging at them.
"Please, don't tell me that's the special Onix?" Iris asked, hoping that she was wrong.
"That's a normal one." Ash declared, giving how he had his fair share of seeing Onix up close.
"Whatever. Run real fast!" Dawn cried out.
"You don't need to tell me twice!" Logan screamed as they now started to run away from the angry Onix, but then found themselves being cornered by two Onix's, causing the group to split up with Dawn and Iris being one group, and the boys being the other.
We soon see the girls running out into the forest and catching their breaths after losing the Onix, and Iris (with Fraxure in her hair) asking where the others went, with Dawn replying that she doesn't know, soon realizing that Piplup isn't with them, and realizing that he's with the boys.
"I think we should go back inside the cave and have a look." Iris suggested with Dawn agreeing with her.
As soon as they were about to be ready to enter the cave again, they got scared and ran away after seeing an Onix was guarding the entrance to make sure there were no trespassers as the girls were catching their breath after being scared.
"I don't think we have any other choice left but to make our way back to the beach." Dawn said as they can't think of anything to do next since that Onix is guarding the entrance.
"So, were done searching for the special Onix?" Iris asked, with Dawn stating that it will more than likely be looking for them.
"I guess so. The guys will probably go back to." Iris said. "Let's act like nothing happened." And Dawn agreed to that.
Meanwhile, we soon find the boys, Pikachu, Piplup, Oshawott, Pansage, and Meloetta hiding behind some rocks as they catch their breath, and Ash realized the girls aren't with them, and Cilan saying that they must have gotten separated.
Soon, Piplup got sad as he was worried about Dawn, so Oshawott tried to cheer him up a bit, but Piplup rejected his kindness by slapping his paw away from him. That action alone causes Oshawott to get angry and the two water Pokémon got in each other's faces again as they argue. Pikachu tried to diffuse the situation, causing the two to turn their backs against each other, causing Pikachu to sigh to himself.
Ash then got back up after catching his breath. "We better head back to the cave and look for them now." Ash suggested, causing Logan to give his friend a look as if he had lost it.
"Are you crazy, after what we've just went through for being chased and surrounded by those Onix?!" Logan exclaimed.
"He's right, it's dangerous there. That cave seems to be a nest of Onix." Cilan agreed.
"So that's perfect. Aren't we here to look for a special Onix in the first place?" Ash questioned as both Cilan and Logan can't believe what they are hearing.
"True, but, Ash..." Cilan started out, but Ash was so excited about what the special Onix looks like. Cilan then tried to get Ash's attention by saying how the cave is like a giant maze.
"I say let's head back to the beach and plan a strategy, alright?" Cilan asked with both Ash and Logan agreeing with the plan. Soon the boys and the Pokémon with them started making their way back to the beach while traversing through a forest. Suddenly, both Meloetta and Logan are a little surprised as they stopped with the others curious of what has gotten into them.
Suddenly, the ground exploded in front of them as an Onix appeared from the ground and roared in rage, causing the group to scream in fright from the surprise attack. With Meloetta being scared, this caused the two water Pokémon to act with Oshawott firing water gun and Piplup unleashed bubble beam at the Onix while causing major damage to it, having no choice but to retreat back into the ground.
"Way to go, Oshawott, Piplup." Ash cheered.
"Since Onix is a rock and ground type, water type attacks are super effective." Cilan deduced as Logan started to understand how different types work on each other.
"And since Oshawott and Piplup are both water types, all it did was cause the Onix to be in double trouble." Logan finishing what Cilan means.
"Correct. There's no better example than that." Cilan praised the two water Pokémon as they were proud of themselves for the action they did, but soon caused them to start arguing with each other again for who did better. Meloetta saw this and used her invisibility to disappear, as Oshawott and Piplup tried to look up at her and tried to ask which one of them was better. But as soon as they saw that Meloetta wasn't there, the group started to feel the ground shaking as they were scared and confused about what was happening right now.
"I think that Onix is coming back for round two!" Logan exclaimed as the ground exploded again as three more Onix appeared. "And it looks like he brought friiiiiieeeeennnnndsssss!" He shouted as the others yelled in terror.
"Quick, Oshawott, use Water Gun! Piplup, Bubble Beam!" Ash cried out as both water Pokémon unleashed their moves, only this time two of the three Onix were able to dodge the attack, making the group cry out in shock on their reflexes. One of the Onix started to charge at the group, causing them to freak out. When suddenly, Meloetta appeared in front of them and started singing a new melody as soundwaves came out of her mouth, causing the Onix to be temporarily be distracted, but kept charging forward.
"Meloetta," Ash called out.
"If you want to beat them, then maybe it would be wise if you were to sing louder." Logan suggested as the group then noticed that Meloetta is glowing with prism color as she continued to sing. They soon see that Meloetta is transforming, seeing how her long green hair is wrapped around her head as it turned orange, and her dress splitting into four parts as she did a little dance and finished with a pose. This alone caused the group to be amazed at what they were seeing.
"Meloetta looks different." Ash said in awe.
"Did Meloetta evolve... or is this something else?" Logan asked.
"I think it means that Meloetta can change its form." Cilan theorized.
They soon see Meloetta charging at the Onix as she soon started unleashing some kicks and strikes that hit one in the jaw, the other across the cheek, and the third one in between the eyes as the group were amazed by her skills.
"Wow, close combat." Cilan cheered.
"Awesome!" Ash exclaimed.
"I never knew that Meloetta was a fighter, but I'm starting to like it." Logan said. "Come on Meloetta, show those Pokémon that you're a force to be reckoned with!" He cheered as Meloetta continued her hits as the other Pokémon were amazed by her fighting.
"A powerful dance with elegance and refinement." Cilan complimented as the Onix retreated back into the ground. After the battle was over, Meloetta transformed back into her previous form and then flew to the boys.
"You saved us, Meloetta. Thank you so much." Ash thanked.
"Yeah, you were a major help, although I didn't take you as much as a fighter." Logan said as the Melody Pokémon was blushing from the praise. With Piplup and Oshawott to blush as well at Meloetta.
"Oh, no, it's a dead end." Iris said as she, Dawn, and Fraxure are in front of a rock wall. "What do we do? Which way should we go?" she asked as Fraxure was trying to get her attention while pointing to his left. Iris is unsure where to go until she decided to follow her partner's suggestion and used her right pointer finger to point to her left.
"There. That way." Iris pointed out confidently, while Dawn is pointing to her right.
"I think it's this way." Dawn said as Iris is confused as to why they would go that way. "Why, Dawn?" Iris questioned.
"Just a hunch." Dawn simply replied. "That's not good enough." Iris said as she and Fraxure had their eyes narrowed.
"No need to worry. The truth is my hunches have a great track record." Dawn assured as they made their way to one of the trails. When suddenly they ran into a dead end.
"There is a need to worry." Iris said in despair as Dawn clapped her hands together and apologized.
"But you should say that there was a need to worry." Dawn said as Iris and Fraxure gave her tired looks. They soon came across another fork in the trail, with Dawn saying that they should go right, while Iris said that they should go left.
"How come?" Dawn asked as replied with a hunch while her cheeks were red.
"That sounds awfully familiar." Dawn stated as she gave a small huff from her mouth.
"My hunches are 100 percent accurate." Iris assured as they used the left side of the fork this time, but soon found themselves at the edge of a cliff as they looked down.
"Uh oh, now there's a cliff to deal with." Dawn said as a Pokémon approached them that has a grey sphere in the middle with a single eye, a magnet on each side of its body with red and blue detail, and some screws on its body. Iris soon saw the Pokémon and was amazed by it.
"Wow. This must be some kind of rare Pokémon." Iris said as she went to touch it by one of its magnets, with Dawn looking at her friend, causing the latter to panic.
"Uh, Iris, don't touch it." Dawn warned with Iris being confused as she was holding on to the magnet, with the Pokémon narrowing its eye as it gave both Iris and Fraxure a shock. Soon, Iris and Fraxure fell onto the ground with the former having poofy hair and both trainer and Pokémon having X's on their eyes.
"Are you okay?" Dawn asked as she crouched down to check on her friends, as Iris' hair was sparking with electricity. "To be honest, no." she replied. Suddenly, a Pokémon that resembles a mushroom with a big pink mouth, black eyes and to the top of its head resembles a Poke Ball, appeared out of curiosity. Dawn was a little surprised at seeing the Pokémon.
"Check it out. I found a rare Pokémon too." Dawn said as she crawled her way over to it and started to touch the top of its head, causing both Iris and Fraxure to panic. "Wait. Don't touch it." She warned, causing Dawn to be confused. Suddenly, Foongus got irritated from being touched, and sprayed her with orange dust.
"That was Foongus's stun spore." Iris explained as Dawn was laying on the ground with X's in her eyes as she was twitching. "Where's Brock when you need him?" She asked herself.
After Dawn recovered from the attack, we soon find the heroines on top of a tree branch with Iris holding onto a vine with Fraxure looking unsure about his partner's plan. "Why didn't I think of this before." Iris asked herself as she stretched the vine to test its durability.
"What?! We're gonna swing on these things?" Dawn asked with uncertainty as she looked down at the ground with dread.
"Ready? Go!" Iris cried out as she leapt off the branch with the vine in hand, with Dawn holding on to the same vine, getting dragged behind Iris and Fraxure.
"Onto the next vine." Iris called out with a light chuckle as Dawn was screaming right behind her, as they jumped off the vine they were on and hopped onto another vine as they continued to swing through the forest.
"Your not bad." Iris said to Dawn as she was getting the hang of swinging. "Once you get the hang of it, it's fun." Dawn replied.
"If we keep this up, we'll be out of the forest in no time flat." Iris said out loud, with Dawn liking the news. Unbeknownst to them, the vine they were swinging on could not handle the strain and snapped, causing the girls and the young dragon Pokémon to panic as they started to fall. As Dawn was falling, Iris was doing a couple of front flips as she stuck the landing. Dawn, however, was unfortunate as she landed in a bush.
"Dawn." Iris called out as Dawn stuck her head out of the bushes, catching her breath. "No need to worry, see? Bushes rule." She assured Iris as she got out of the plant and back on her feet. "You know what? You've got incredible reflexes." the Sinnoh Coordinator said. "That's true. Thanks just the same." Iris said as she made a T pose, with Fraxure crying out in praise.
Suddenly, an Onix came bursting out of the bushes, scaring the girls and Fraxure as they soon made a dash away from the rock Pokémon, soon the rock serpent made chase for the trainers and Pokémon. "Time to worry now." Dawn screamed as they continued to run away.
We soon find our main heroes in the canyon as they soon came across a dead end.
"Man, it's a dead end." Ash whined.
"True. We must have made a wrong turn somewhere. But look at all these strange stones." Cilan theorized as Logan looked around the area while also staying on guard.
"Uh guys, we didn't make a wrong turn and there is something definitely wrong with these stones." Logan said nervously as everyone look at him in confusion. "What do you mean." Ash asked.
Logan soon made his way to the walls, where an arrow is shown pointing to the left. "Well, I was able to create a mark like this just in case if we were ever get lost or need help getting back to the beach." he explained.
"So, you actually made directions in case we forgot where to go. That is actually quite clever." Cilan said as he was impressed with his friends' thinking.
"So this was the way we came from, but I don't remember this wall being here. What's up with that?" Ash questioned as Pikachu used his tail to touch the rocks. Soon afterwards, the rocks started to shake, causing everyone to be surprised. They suddenly got scared as several Onix revealed themselves from their slumber, causing our heroes to run away.
Unbeknownst to them, the girls were about to run into each other, as they soon reached each other, feeling relieved that they had run into each other, as Piplup ran up to her trainer, giving her a hug as Dawn returned the gestor. "Oh Piplup. Thank goodness, you're okay. You had me worried sick." Dawn said as she hugged her friend.
"Are you sure about that Dawn, because from what I've just seen, your Piplup happens to be a pretty tough fighter." Logan complimented.
"Well, that's my Piplup for you." Dawn said with pride for her aquatic partner, but their reunion was cut short as more Onix appeared around them, causing them to run away once more as they gave chase. Our heroes soon came across another dead end.
"Oh, no, a dead end." Ash cried out as Cilan stated that the rocks are the real thing. The Pokémon started to get scared as the Onix started to attack, causing Meloetta to cry in fear. Soon, Oshawott, Piplup, and Logan stood ready to protect their friend.
"Oshawott, Water Gun." Ash called out as Oshawott used its move to attack the Onix.
"Help out, Piplup. Use Bubble Beam." Dawn commanded as Piplup fired its bubbles, causing both moths critical damage on the Onix.
"Great, Oshawott!" Ash cheered as Oshawott was still ready to fight as the Onix are angry for how they were attacked. "Now Aqua Jet." Ash shouted as Oshawott surrounded itself with water and rushed at the rock snake Pokémons, causing critical damage to them. But because of the Onix's hard skin, it caused Oshawott to be stunned, causing Ash to be surprised to what happened.
"Piplup, use head butt." Dawn ordered as Piplup rammed its giant head right on the jaw but caused the Penguin Pokémon to be stunned as well. "Piplup!" Dawn cried out as her partner was temporarily dazed.
"We're trapped!" Cilan shouted as everyone grew worried as this was the end of the road for them. But there was something that felt familiar for how Cilan said those words as Logan started to remember something from his past.
"We're trapped!" A young boy said as he is shown to be a young man with black hair with purple features, blue eyes, and wearing a black, sleeveless training attire. We soon pan out to find him with Logan, in a white training attire, in a cave with a maze design. As Logan was looking around his surroundings while his friend was slightly panicking a bit. "Oh man, if we pass in last place, then sensei is going to get us to put in some extra training in... Again!" The boy cried out as he was desperate not to lose again.
"Hey, don't worry bud. I'll make sure that the both of us will not lose this event, and that's a promise." Logan assured as he was feeling the walls when he noticed that they were feeling a little light.
"But how... I mean, we would be wasting more time if we find another way and by then, we would be in dead last. Just admit it, we lost." The man sighed in defeat as he sat down on a rock.
Logan looked at his friend and back into the wall as he soon gave a determined expression on his face. "Not yet we haven't, sensei always said: 'Whenever in a tight situation, always look for a way out.' And I'm making sure we cross that finish line first." Logan said as he took a stance, readying to strike the wall.
Logan soon found himself back in the present as he now looks at his friends and the wall, as he looked determined to get out of the situation they were stuck in. "Not yet we haven't." Logan said as he went to the wall with his friends were looking at him in confusion while getting back on track and be ready for the Onix the make their move.
As Logan was getting to the wall of rocks, he began feeling around them as if he was trying to feel for something. He soon found what he was looking for, as he closed his eyes and held his breath as he slightly spread his legs as he bawled his right hand into a fist and tucked it right next to his torso as he started to breath out from his mouth, then he opened his eyes with determination as he gave a mighty roar as he extended his right arm and struck the boulders. As his friends looked shocked on what he was trying to do, they suddenly hear some cracking as they now see the boulders starting to grow cracks from the hit, then the boulders suddenly collapsed as they were nothing but tiny pieces, shocking everyone at what they just witnessed.
"I found our way out, so let's get out of here!" Logan cried out as he started running. Ash and his friends shook their heads to get rid of the dumbfound for what their new friend just did, and followed his instructions as they started to make a run for it. We soon found the group being chased by the Onix again as they tried to navigate from the ravine.
"Wow Logan, that was incredible!" Ash complimented Logan as they caught up with their friend, as Ash and Dawn were holding on to Oshawott and Piplup, who were still unconscious.
"Yeah, how were you able to do that?!" Dawn asked with amazement in her voice.
"Well, you can thank Cilan for that, because the last thing he said was able to jog another memory, which was able to help me remember that I took martial arts to help improve my body and awareness." Logan replied as they soon made a right in the fork.
"Whoa, Martial Arts? That is way cool!" Iris said as Logan thanked her for the compliment. They soon found themselves in another dead end as they were once again trapped between a rock and a hard place as the Onix surrounded them once again. "Uh Oh! Sorry guys, but I don't think I can bust our way out of this predicament." Logan exclaimed as they prepare to fight the Onix.
One Onix decided to get closer to them and made a terrifying roar, causing everyone to get scared and Meloetta screaming in terror. That single cry alone was enough for Oshawott and Piplup to regain their senses to try and protect the Melody Pokémon. Oshawott's body started to glow as he used his hands to do a spiral formation and unleashed a huge torrent of water at the Onix. Meanwhile, Piplup used Bubble Beam and combined the bubbles into one giant one, and strikes it at the Onix's head, landing with the head inside the bubble, and exploded, causing the Onix to get knocked down.
"Did Oshawott just use Hydro Pump?" Cilan asked in surprise.
"You bet, Cilan. Oshawott, you learned Hydro Pump. Awesome." Ash responded and complimented the Sea Otter Pokémon.
"Piplup's Bubble Beam was amazing, too, wasn't it, Fraxure?" Iris asked, with Fraxure agreeing with his trainer.
Dawn nodded her head. "Piplup's aim was right on the money." She said, as Pikachu, Pansage and Meloetta cheered for their friends. Both water type Pokémon were basking in the glory, as they soon looked at each other in the eye, they each gave a smirk of their own.
The Onix started to get back up as more began to surround them, causing the trainers to grow worried. "Guess it's not time to have a party just yet." Iris stated.
"No way." Dawn said, agreeing with her as the Onix are angry at them. "There are just to many of them." Ash said with a worried tone, and Cilan asking what they should do now. Ash suddenly got an idea. "Oh yeah, come on, Meloetta, sing your song again." Ash asked the Melody Pokémon.
Meloetta agreed, as she started to sing and try to calm the Onix down. But the effort was all but futile, as the Onix's started to make their attack, scaring Meloetta in the process. Seeing the Melody Pokémon stirred something inside Logan, as if he didn't like how Meloetta was feeling right now.
"Even Meloetta's song didn't work." Cilan stated. "I guess we're gonna have to battle it out." Ash said as everyone prepared themselves for what's about to come next.
As the Onix's prepared to strike... "ENOUGH!" someone shouted with enough force as they stopped their movement as everyone turned to see Logan, who had his eyes shadowed by his hair, had a frown on his face as he slowly marched toward the rock snake Pokémon's with his fists slightly shaking. "I've had enough with all of you today, first you trying to attack in the cave, then in the forest, and finally scaring my friends!" Logan shouted in anger as his friends looked at him in surprise and astonishment. "Just because your all trying to protect your home, doesn't give the right to scare my friend." Logan looked up as the Onix's looked at his eyes, which were burning like fire.
Soon every Pokémon, Ash and Iris could sense the power emanating from his body as they can sense his aura, but that wasn't what got them spooked. Behind him, they can see the presence of a dark figure looming over them. The could partially see the figure as he had two horns on its head, glowing yellow eyes, wearing armor, and wielding what appears to be a sword of fire in its right hand. They could also see that it was surrounded by fire. The Pokémon were mostly shaking, especially the Onix, as if the figure was looking at them, straight in the eyes. Then it gave a mighty roar, causing the Onix to slowly slither back.
Soon the moment was disturbed when everyone heard a angry roar themselves. Logan heard the roar as well causing the aura that was around him disappeared, as they looked up and saw another Onix at the edge of the cliff. But what made this Onix different was the fact that it looks different in color. As everyone was surprised by its appearance, Ash was able to identify it as a shiny Onix. The shiny Onix soon roared once again, soon the other Onix started to slither away from the trainers and their Pokémon.
"Look, they're all leaving." Iris stated, and Dawn asking why. They soon saw the Shiny Onix was leaving as well.
"I'll bet you that shiny Onix is the boss of the whole island." Iris said as she and Dawn looked at each other in the eyes.
"So that means that has to be a special Onix." Dawn deduced.
"What do you know? I've never seen a shiny Onix before." Ash said to himself, and Cilan stating that they might have good luck.
"I'm winning the Junior Cup for sure." Ash stated with everyone else agreed with him and that they'll all win.
"We can't all win, but other good things might happen." Cilan stated as they all made their way back to the beach as the sun was starting to set as Jervis picked them up and started to sail back to Undella town.
"What? You knew that cave was really dangerous, but you didn't tell us?" Ash exclaimed after Jervis told them about the cave.
"Well, I did, in my own way. I said to be careful." Jervis explained.
"I guess we can't really blame you, giving how I kind of knew that there was going to be trouble in the first place." Logan said.
"If we had known if it was like, we wouldn't have gone in." Dawn said.
"I can't help wondering why that shiny Onix would have any interest in helping us get out of there?" Cilan questioned.
"If I were to guess, then it would have something to do with Meloetta's singing and master Logan's emotions to protect you must have touched the Onix's heart deeply, as well as wanting to protect the others." Jervis deduced.
"Wow. So maybe Onix are actually kind and gentle Pokémon." Iris said as they see a Wailord jumping above the water and splashing back down, making a rainbow from the droplets, making everyone be amazed at the scene.
As everyone was looking at the site, Ash turned to see Logan as he looked at the rainbow, then flashing back to the presence of the figure that he felt. 'Whatever it was that I saw back there, I've never seen a Pokémon like that before.' Ash thought to himself as he continued to look at his friend. "Just who are you Logan, and what kind of trainer are you?" Logan soon notices that Ash was looking at him. "Hey Ash, is everything alright?" He asked his friend as Ash shook his thoughts and told that everything is great.
"But on the subject about your emotions, there was something that I wanted to tell you about." Ash said as this got Logan's attention, as well as Cilan, Dawn and Iris. "Back when you were confronting the Onix, I somehow felt the power coming off of you." He said as this surprised everyone, even Logan.
"I guess that makes sense, giving how he was able to break those boulders with just one punch." Cilan deduced as they agreed to that.
"Yeah, but there was something else, I felt this presence was there as well, and it was like I saw this figure that was towering over us." Ash said, as Iris was surprised as well.
"Hold on, you mean you felt it too?" Iris said with Ash nodding his head.
"Yeah, and from what I could tell from all the journeys I went through, I have never seen a Pokémon quite like it." Ash explained as they were confused about what Pokémon he and Iris saw.
"Really? What did it look like?" Dawn asked as she got her Poke Dex out, trying to see if there were any matches to the figure they saw, with Ash and Iris both describing what they saw, Dawn put in the description, and the results shocked them the most.
"No Data." The computer said with a question mark popping up.
"No way! The Poke Dex wasn't able to identify it." Cilan exclaimed as they were surprised to not even know about it.
"Maybe it's a rare Pokémon that hasn't been discovered yet?" Iris theorized.
"Maybe, but whatever the case is, at least today has been a huge help by helping me get more of my memories back." Logan said as he was looking out at the view, with his friends smiling, knowing that he was right.
We soon see Meloetta was sitting on a bench as Piplup hopped up and try to sit right next to the Melody Pokémon, but was soon intercepted by Oshawott as he knocked Piplup off and sat next to her, causing Piplup to get upset as he got up and pushed Oshawott back, causing them to butt heads once more. This caused Meloetta to smile a little bit and started singing, causing everyone to feel at peace.
"Whoa, listening to that beautiful singing makes me think of my home." Iris said, as everyone agreed with her as well, and how Jervis feels at peace as well.
"Meloetta's voice may possess mysterious power." Jervis explained as they all looked at Meloetta in surprise.
"And so, our heroes have experienced the mystery of Onix Island, complete with a special Onix and Logan regaining more of his past. Soon, preparation for the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup resumes."
We soon see Team Rocket's helicopter hovering above the waves.
"That's the final sensor." Meowth reported as James pressed a button on the console, causing something to drop from the cargo hold as it splashed and sank into the water.
"We are going to find those ruins, no doubt." Jessie stated.
"Once we've got Meloetta, we'll have everything we need." Meowth said as he was looking at the data on Meloetta.
"So for now, we can let the twerps take care of our work for us." James said.
"And we do it for the boss." All three members cheered.
"As the Journey Continues..."
