Chapter 14
Everyone in the courtroom was frozen. They couldn't do anything but watch. Jennifer closed her eyes and waited for the loud bang of a gun shot. However, when Freddy pulled the trigger, the gun made a clicking sound. "What?" says Freddy. He looked at the gun before pulling the trigger several times. For some reason, there weren't any bullets being fired out of the gun.
Freddy had a confused face, then he opened the gun and saw it was empty. "Looking for these?" Freddy looked up and Leo was holding a tiny bag. He reached inside and pulled out a silver bullet. It turns out that before the trial started, Leo took out the bullets and hid them in his pocket. "Shit," says Freddy. Suddenly, a couple of police officers tackled him to the ground.
The police officers dragged him onto his feet, he then looked at his mum and says: "You should have let me see him." "I know. And I'm so sorry," says Freddy's mum. "Also, I like the name Talbot more than O'Brian." Judge Levia banged her gavel and says: "Order in the court! Now that this event has ended, we shall all take a break of thirty minutes. Officers, keep that man in custody. And I would like the jury to come up with a verdict for Wendy Barclay and Freddy Talbot."
Judge Levia banged her gavel again, Freddy and Wendy were escorted out of the courtroom by some police officers. Jennifer placed a hand over her heart and took some deep breaths. "Jennifer! Why did you do that?!" says Leo. "Because I thought he was going to kill our daughter," says Jennifer. "But if I forget to take the bullets out, then you would've been shot. You could've died!" "So could Wendy! It's my fault this happened to her! If I didn't let Red bite me, then we wouldn't have become Werewolves like him!"
Leo wraps his arms around Jennifer and says: "Listen to me. This isn't your fault. It will never be your fault. So please, don't think that you're a monster. You're my wife. And Werewolf or not, I love you and Wendy. Ok?" Jennifer hugs him back and says: "I love you too." Judge Levia walks up to them and says: "Just so you know, I have a good feeling Wendy's going home today."
After a few minutes, Connor says to his mum: "I can't believe he just tried to kill Wendy. I want to kick him in the balls right now." "Calm down. Everyone knows what he did, he's going to jail. I know he is," says Connor's mum. Leo and Jennifer walked up to them and says: "It's time for the verdict. Are you ready?" Connor sighs and says: "Ok, let's do this."
Everyone walked back into the courtroom. Freddy and Wendy were standing in front of Judge Levia. Connor, his mum, Leo and Jennifer were sitting at a table. "Has the jury reached a verdict?" says Judge Levia. A guy stands up and says: "Yes, we have." "What is the verdict for Freddy Talbot?" "We the jury, find the defendant, guilty."
Connor whispers to himself: "Serves you right." Judge Levia clears her throat before saying: "And what is the verdict for Wendy Barclay?" Connor and his mum held hands, Leo and Jennifer held hands before the guy in the jury says: "We the jury, find the defendant, not guilty."
Connor gasped and covers his mouth with his hand. Leo and Jennifer hugged each other. "Freddy Talbot? You are to return to court in a week to receive your sentence. And Wendy Barclay? I'm pleased to tell you that you're free to go. Case dismissed!" Judge Levia says as she bangs her gavel. Some police officers escorted Freddy out of the courtroom.
Wendy walked over and hugged her parents. She then looked at Connor and says: "Do you still want to be friends with me?" Connor smiles and says: "Of course." Wendy smiles before hugging him. Connor's mum reaches a hand out and says: "Connor's told me a lot about you." Whilst shaking hands, Wendy says: "Really? Well, it's really nice to meet you." "It's nice to meet you too."
