I cannot forget the day it happened to my two friends: Furaha and Orko.
I remember when they set off in their little boat from the beach, Furaha wearing a hat she made out of newspaper and Orko with some fishing gear he just arranged back home. They pushed their little boat out into the sea and sailed off, further and further, until they reached the shallow part of the ocean, where they engaged in a spot of fishing.
Fishing is a nice, relaxing activity for cubs and Trollan wizards, because you can get to do whatever you want to do. It's like a mental health day. Er….do they have mental health days at school? Hmmmmm, I bet they do. I may have to check online to see if there are. Anyway, Furaha was relaxing in the boat, feeling all content and happy, listening to the relaxing sounds of the seagulls in the sky and water splashing around the boat. Orko, who was very chilled out when it comes to fishing, waited for quite a long time. No matter how long he waited, not a single bite was hooked up onto his fishing line.
"How many minutes until fish come up onto your line, Orko?" asked Furaha. "Zilch," said Orko. "Not a single fish. I've waited for three hours and we're already getting hungry. Good thing I brought us some sandwiches!" Orko pulled out a brown paper package filled with two ham and cheese sandwiches. Delighted, the two friends tucked into their lunch, and all seemed smooth sailing, until Furaha noticed something.
"Erm…Orko?" she asked. "Do you notice anything unusual about where we are?" "My sandwich?" asked Orko. "No, not that." worried Furaha, "It's just that I can't see the beach. It's miles away now." "Then WHERE ARE WE?!" asked Orko, a hint of panic leaking into his voice. "I don't know. We must be…" she swallowed for a minute before she let it all out: "...in the middle of the sea."
"IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA?!" An anxiety attack plagued Orko's mind, body and soul, and he began to scream and whimper in fear and terror. It took 3 minutes for Furaha to calm him down. "Don't panic, Orko, everything won't be as bad as you think." "How can things get any worse?" panicked Orko, negatively.
As if on cue, huge dark storm clouds covered the big blue sky, shrouding it in a black, eerie darkness. Then, the sea started to go tempestuous and choppy. It got wilder, and wilder, until it was throwing Furaha and Orko's boat from wave to wave, and scattering their fishing equipment everywhere! "ORKO!" screamed Furaha over the loud thunder, heavy rain and splashing waves, "HOLD ONTO ME!" "I'M TRYING, FURAHA! I DON'T THINK I CAN-" "YES YOU CAN! Trust me and listen to me because I'm your sister!" argued Furaha, but as if in time with her anger, a bolt of fierce yellow lightning struck the boat, breaking it in two and sending Furaha and Orko floating away from each other. "ORKO!" screamed Furaha, reaching her paw out to her best friend and big brother. "FURAHA!" wailed Orko, holding his own hand out…until the waves crashed down onto them.
Once deep under the stormy waters, Furaha looked around for Orko. She could see him sinking slowly to the bottom of the sea! Bravely, she swam up to her big brother and carried him all the way up to the surface again. "F…Furaha?" asked Orko, coughing out seawater. "It's okay, Orko, just hold on. It'll be alright!" "How? We can't be alright, not without parental guidance!" "We CAN cope without Kiburi and Ua, you'll see, we can go fishing on our own!" "But fishing is not a good-"
Before Orko could speak further, Furaha noticed something floating in the giant waves. "Look! Orko!" she cried. It was a giant brown book floating wide open in the current. "Come on," spluttered Furaha, and she carried Orko towards the giant book. Both of them safely made it on top of the book, wetting the pages but still safely on their port of call.
But it wasn't all safe and well for long, as Orko noticed his hand going through the book, emitting a golden glow. "Furaha…I don't like the look of this," he said, his voice trembling with fear. As if on cue, Furaha could feel her paw going through the book too. "Is it…magic?" she asked. "And what are those words on the page?" Furaha and Orko looked closer. All the words on the page were melting, leaving nothing but black ink. Furaha and Orko instantly knew what this meant…the book was not real. Instead, it was a hallucination made to trick them!
Furaha and Orko screamed and jumped overboard just as the book disappeared in a magical rain of golden sparkles. They were sent struggling in the choppy waters as the seas became more violent, and the effect of the black ink from the book turned the water sticky and black, much like pollution. The water enveloped Furaha and Orko in its deadly embrace, until they are sent sinking deep, deep down into the depths of the ocean, almost close to drowning…
The next morning, Furaha awoke to find herself in a tropical, sweltering hot place, where everything was full of colour. "Orko?" she called out calmly.
