Ch 3

Eva frowned, looking in the mirror as she pulled her sweater over her stomach. She was big, bigger than she was supposed to be for her gestation.

If Sparda was right about her having twins, she was going to cry. She was already nervous about being a mother of one. How was she supposed to manage two? It wasn't as though she knew what a mother was.

"Are you ready?" Sparda questioned, his boots thumping heavily on the wood floors as he entered their bedroom. He stopped, taking in her frame before meeting her gaze in the mirror.

His gaze was soft, as it always was when he looked at her.

"My clothes don't fit anymore." Eva pulled her sweater down again as it lifted. It was a tight fit, stretching bigger than the material was used to. It wouldn't be long before nothing in her closet fit. "I'm fat."

"You are pregnant." Sparda corrected as he stood behind her, wrapping his arms around the small woman as he held her stomach. He could feel his unborn child move to press against his hand. "We should buy you more maternity clothes."

Eva pouted, leaning into Spardas hold. She didn't want to be one of those women who wore maternity clothes. They weren't appealing in the slightest and they would age her horribly. She was only 24. She didn't need to dress like she was going to her grandchild's graduation.

"I know you do not like the clothes they sell, but we can search until we find something you like." The devil promised, nuzzling his nose in the crease of Eva's neck. "I'm sure someone sells leather that stretches."

"I would never be caught dead in fake leather." Eva scoffed, stepping out of Sparda hold and instantly missing his warmth. The safest place for her to be was in his arms.

Wobbling as she walked due to her swollen feet, she slowly made her way to the rocking chair by the window and sat. She was way bigger than she should be at only 4 months pregnant. It was possible that her baby was growing in size due to being halfblooded, but the doctor had assured her that the baby was growing at a normal rate.

Sparda wanted her to switch doctors, but doctors who had professional knowledge of demons were hard to find.

Grabbing her first boot, she slopped it on. Sparda stood close by. His eyes steady on her as he looked for any moment of distress. He was always dangerously protective of her, but the knowledge of her carrying his child had only strengthened his protective nature.

"At least your boots still fit."

"For now." Eva slipped on the other boot. They were snug on her feet and it wouldn't be long before she would need to buy a special pair of shoes. "The swelling won't end until I give birth."

"To our twins."

Eva rolled her eyes as she stood from the rocking chair. "I'm ready."

Sparda watched with twinkling eyes as Eva made her way out of their bedroom. They were heading to one of Evas closest friends. A woman who saved Eva during a mission gone wrong. It was a chance meeting, but it was a connection Eva would never forsake.

Twins. Sparda would continue to bring them up until Eva was ready to accept that it may be true. He wouldn't' tell her until she was ready- and he was surprised that she hadn't felt it- but it was never 1 child pressed against his hand. It was 2.

End

Sometimes I want the chapters to be longer, but there is something sweet about a short chapter filled with affection.
