Summary: Sango and Miroku were sent to the present with Kagome before the well closed. Kagome is plagued with dreams of darkness enveloping the universe, but are they just mere dreams? Chapter One
Silence. Pitch dark silence. For miles and miles, that's all she could see. It felt unnatural, sending a foreboding feeling deep into the pit of her stomach. This…- It wasn't a normal darkness that came once nightfall hit. It was almost a black mist that came and wiped out all of the light the sun gave off. It was cold and suffocatingly heavy.
The further she walked, the worse it got.
Suddenly, almost as if it were some last-ditch effort of self-preservation, a bright beam of light emerged from the dark clouds that hung all around. Before long, the distinct shape of the sun could be made out, but she couldn't help but note she was much closer than she ought to have been to it. She looked down but all she saw were more dark clouds.
There was a scream, and she swiftly looked up to try and pinpoint where it came from. The only thing she could go on was what it came from in front of her. As she looked up, her eyes landed on the blindingly bright orb in front of her. Maybe it was due to the presence of the clouds all around it, but it didn't hurt when she looked directly at it.
She watched, seemingly frozen in time as dark cracks started to travel along the surface of the sun. That feeling of foreboding grew heavier as the sun seemed to crumble and lose its shape- falling into millions of pieces as if it were nothing more than a ball of sand.
In the aftermath, all that remained in front of her was a girl whose face couldn't be seen. She lay on the ground, dark hair framing her silhouette. A small ball of light surrounded her, seeming to come from within her before it too was fully extinguished as darkness swept over the entire terrain once more.
All that remained was silence and darkness.
Kagome woke up, her body lurching forward in bed as she abruptly sat up/ Her heart pounded in her chest as if she'd woken up from a nightmare. Then again, she might as well have. An air of heaviness settled around her in her room as she glanced around her surroundings. Nothing was out of the ordinary, yet something felt so… off.
That dream wasn't anything new. For as long as she could recall, she would have that dream frequently. Nothing about it ever changed, either. It was a random occurrence, but it was a frequent one. It seemed that after falling five hundred years into the past, it only became that much more of a common occurrence, however. Most nights she was plagued with it, but she still couldn't make any sense of it.
A few minutes passed before Kagome finally moved to get up out of bed. She quickly changed clothes into her school uniform before making her way back to her bed. She haphazardly tossed her covers back in place before turning and making her way to her desk. Once there, her eyes focused on the pink jewel resting on top of the wooden surface. Wrapped in a shimmering translucent barrier to ensure it couldn't be touched or detected for that matter. She reached for it. The second her fingers made contact with the barrier, it fell.
Kagome grasped the jewel by the chain it was attached to and lifted it up so it dangled seemingly innocently before her eyes. It was anything but that. It seemed pure rotten luck to be stuck as its guardian.
Her grip on it tightened before she let it loosen up. With a faint sigh, she moved to clasp it around her neck so it could fall to its usual spot. Her hand moved, fingers falling to rest against the pink bauble.
"... There's always this odd feeling I get whenever I put it on," she mused softly to herself. It was like a weight had fallen to rest on her shoulders whenever she wore the jewel. Perhaps that came as no surprise. After all, a thing such as it could only be something burdensome,
Kagome sighed and shook her head.
There were plenty of things the jewel had done that didn't make sense to her, but not all of them were malicious in intent, at least.
It'd been a few weeks since she last came back through the well. The last trip through it ended with the well completely sealing from both sides. She figured that was for the best in the end, after all. A portal such as that didn't need to be left open, even if only a select few were able to be transported through it. There was never any telling when or if more would be allotted access, and something like that was something better off left unexplored. Frankly, it was something she didn't want to worry herself with.
Before it had been fully sealed, it would seem the jewel had once last act before those ties were deemed severed, and that came in the form of bringing her human companions over from the past. There had never been any clarity given as to why such a thing had been done. It had just happened.
With the shrine left in her name, it wasn't that big of a struggle accommodating Sango and Miroku there, and after a few weeks they'd settled in easily at their new home.
Kagome turned from where she stood, heading for the door to exit her room. On the way out, she ran into the brunette whose room was right beside her own. Sango gave her one look, a flicker of concern flashing through her eyes.
"Is something wrong, Kagome?" Sango asked, falling back to lean against the wall beside the shorter girl. Kagome glanced at her and brushed off her concerns with a faint smile.
"No, nothing wrong," she said. Sango gave her a look that told her very clearly how little she actually believed those words, yet she didn't push any. After all, she could always fashion a guess and probably hit the mark head-on. Sango spared a brief glance at the jewel visible against Kagome's skin, looking away a second later.
Much like her, Sango wore the same uniform. The green plaid skirt had been tailored a bit so it was longer, but just barely. It wasn't anything that would call attention, at least.
Normally she'd feel uneasy about starting the school year so late, but she felt a bit better knowing she wouldn't be alone, at least.
The sound of someone coming down the hall caught both of their attention, and Miroku lifted a hand in greeting.
"Morning, you two," he greeted. "Looks like we're all ready to leave, then."
Kagome nodded. She knew she'd slept in a bit later than she meant to. She'd even slept through her alarm, oddly enough.
"We should get going before we're late," she said.
"Right," Miroku nodded, motioning for the raven-haired girl to take the lead. "After you, then, Lady Kagome."
Well, the best way to get back into normalcy was to find a routine and what better routine was there, if not for a school routine?
Auroua-chan: Ending this here.
Currently it's just Sango (+Kirara) and Miroku with her, but it won't be long before others show up. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and Shippo in particular.
The green plaid skirt probably gave away what school they are attending.
Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
