Chapter 14: The Plan

Everyone got up the next morning determined to build a plan to stop the sentinels so that mutant-kind was safe, the group gathering with their breakfast as they didn't exactly have a war room at the moment. "Okay, I say we find the main factory these sentinels are coming from and burn it to the ground." Logan says as he eats his bacon and eggs.

"No, we can't rush into there." Scott shakes his head.

"Why not? Jus' blow de whole place up an' no mo' sentinels. Simple as dat." Remy raises a brow as he brings his coffee mug to his lips.

"But it isn't that simple," Scott sighs. "They'll see us coming before we can even step foot in the factory. We have to do this strategically. Otherwise we'll be killing ourselves."

"So what do you suggest then?" Piotr asks as he placed his mug down.

"We go underground and attack from underneath, this way we have an escape route and attack directly below the source." Scott sits back in his chair, Logan snorting. "This could be our only chance of attack otherwise we could get surrounded."

"I've been in many wars, Cyke, but… I think this plan of yours might be our best bet."

"Then it's settled," Scott nods. "We'll head out in two hours, everyone prepare yourselves."

Everyone finishes up breakfast, a nervous energy in the room as they all went to go prepare. Xavier sat with his fingers bridges together in front of his face, his brows furrowed. "Something wrong Charles?" Hank asks.

"I worry for my X-men, but I know they can do it. This will not be easy." Charles looks at the blue beast.

"While I too am worried, I know we can do it. We've all gone up against Apocalypse and his horsemen. If we can do that then we can do this." Hank gives a reassuring smile.

Charles smiles, nodding in agreement. Logan goes through some procedures with the X-men after everyone got suited up, sharing his own insight on what he has experience when everyone got split up. The sentinels were tough, but were also easy to damage the right spots like the sentinels they dealt with in the past. He informed them all to be careful as the robots were amped up since the first time they faced them.

Rogue took a deep breath, her gloved hands in fists at her sides while a focused expression was on her face as she was tense. She felt Remy's gloved hand grab hers gently and give her a reassuring squeeze as they listened to Logan, which made her less tense.

Once the debriefing was done, it was time to get going, Hank having the Blackbird ready as he and Storm sat in the pilots seats. The X-men buckle up, everyone all determined to make this mission successful. "Ready?" Storm flips a switch.

"We're ready." Scott places his hands on his armrests, Jean sitting next to him and placing a hand on his.

The Blackbird takes off, the Professor watching as they leave, his mouth pressed into a straight line. "Stay safe, my X-men." He says as he watched the jet fade into the sky as it uses its cloaking technology.

The ride was not overly long, but as they waited to reach their destination, it was clear there was still some anxiousness amongst some of the X-men. Kurt was bouncing his leg as he tried to remain calm, while Kitty was fidgeting with her hair, but Piotr had placed a hand on her to reassure her. Remy was shuffling his cards while his own knee bounced lightly, trying to get his mind off of how this could go down.

There was a silence on the ride over, even when they touched down far away from the vicinity, but everyone knew what to do. The ramp deploys and everyone gets out, immediately getting to work as Scott starts to blast a tunnel downwards into the ground. They had looked at the schematics before coming, Logan, Scott and Hank talking about it with each other on how to approach the facility stealthily.

Scott pauses, nodding to Jean who used her powers to check for any guards, shaking her head to signal they were in the clear. They make an entrance, splitting off into their groups they had devised earlier, Rogue sending Remy a look to which he gives her a comforting one back. The pair split off with their groups, the facility immediately sounding the alarms. "Well that didn't take long." Rogue rolls her eyes.

"Let's hurry so we don't get spotted by sentinels." Jean leads her group, but they pause when a sentinel comes into view.

"Mutants, must be detained." The sentinel voices as it trudges towards them.

"Grab my arm!" Kurt commands.

Jean, Rogue, Kitty and Beast grab onto the fuzzy elf, Kurt teleporting them into the room it emerged from. "Let's keep moving, perhaps we will find the main controls to shut them down." Beast starts to lead the way, the others following.

Meanwhile, Scott and his team run down the halls, a few sentinels coming into view as they come to a halt. "Hey, Colossus, how 'bout a cannonball?" Logan suggests as he unsheathes his claws.

"Not bad idea." Piotr nods, grabbing Logan and throwing him at one sentinel while Remy, Scott and Ororo blast the other with their powers combined.

Logan roars as he slashes away at the mechanics in the sentinel, causing it to fall backwards and short circuit. "Let's get going and find the source!" Scott commands, starting to run ahead.

"De faster we find de source, de quicker we can blow dis place t' hell." Remy tosses a card behind him as he ran, the others following Cyclops as they run down the long hallway as the card explodes.

A man slams his fist down on a table, sighing in frustration as he pinches the bridge of his nose. The larger machine behind him sat as it processed more sentinel shells, the man making a face as he watched. "Dammit, you were supposed to eliminate them." He growls.

"We have apprehended them in the past. Mutants seem to have a plan of escape." The larger machine spoke.

"Then make them better, Master Mold. I didn't create you to be obsolete. They have infiltrated the facility and already taken down several Sentinels." The man yells in frustration.

"Perhaps you are the one that is obsolete, Bolivar." Master Mold said, making Bolivar Trask even more pissed off.

"Next upgrade won't be pretty for you." Trask growls as he turns back to the screen to see where the teams were going.

Beast finds a room that held the main power circuit, the group keeping their guard up for any nearby Sentinels. "Okay, I found the main power supply." Beast says into their communications they all had.

"Great, cut that and get out of here." Scott says over his.

"On it."

Rogue peers down the hall, hearing a clank that made her cautiously move forward. Her gloved hands were ready, but of course she wasn't ready for a sentinel hands grabbing her, making her yell out in shock. "Rogue!" Kurt looks over.

Jean uses her powers to pull anything she could off the walls to hurl it at the sentinel while Kurt teleported onto the sentinel's arm and grabbed Rogue. He teleports into the room Beast was in, asking if she was okay while she was trying to catch her breath. "How much longer?" Kitty asks, nervous as the sentinel crashes down while Jean held it off.

"Shouldn't be much longer," Beast types away on the keyboard as his eyes scanned the coding. "Now!"

The sentinel goes offline, other nearby sentinels pausing where they stood, while Master Mold's eyes dim and Trask yells out in frustration. "No! I blame you, Gyrich." Trask curses under his breath as he tries to reconfigure the power.

"Don't move bub." Logan's claws unsheathe as he saunters forward.

"Stay back you freak!" Trask stumbles backwards. "You're all freaks that need to be eradicated!"

"Yeah, well, you'll be going away for a long time, buddy." Scott moves forward. "Ororo, take the others out of here with this man."

"What will you do?" Ororo asks.

"I'm going to blow this place up so the sentinels can't be rebuilt." Scott says.

"Fools! Master Mold cannot be stopped." Master Mold comes back online, surprising everyone in the room. "I do not need a main power system to function. Now I will program my sentinels to eradicate mutants and humankind alike."

"What?! I didn't program you to do that! I command you to stand down, Master Mold! This is not what I wanted!" Trask's eyes widen in shock.

"I do not follow your commands any longer." Master Mold booms as the building starts to shake.

"That's your cue to leave!" Scott yells.

"Come, we are taking you out of here." Piotr grabs Trask by the back of his shirt, easily taking him out of the room.

"What about you Cyke?" Logan asks.

"Don't worry. I got this, Logan. Just get out of here. Make sure Jean doesn't try to come after me." Scott gives him a look through his visor, Logan clenching his jaw but nodding.

"C'mon, Cajun. We gotta go." Logan says gruffly.

"Y' gon' need some help, mon ami." Remy shakes Logan's hand off his shoulder. "Y' not gon' be able t' blow dis place up by y'self."

Scott nods to Remy, then Remy looks to Logan. "Y' get outta heah Wolverine. We'll make it out."

"You better, or Rogue will kill you." Logan nods, then runs out after the others.

"I think that is our cue to leave." Beast looks around as they felt the building shake.

"Let's go!" Jean leads the way back to the tunnel they had made to get in.

The group exit the tunnel, Piotr was bending metal around Trask so he wouldn't escape, Logan standing their with his arms folded as explosions can be heard going off. "Logan.. where's Scott?" Jean asks, knowing the answer but she wanted to hear him say it.

Rogue looks around, then felt her own heart drop. "Gambit?" She calls out, her voice filled with anxiety.

"Sorry, Jeanie, but Scott said he had to do it." Logan shakes his head.

"Oh mah gawd… Remy's still in there!" Rogue starts to rush back to the tunnel entrance, but Logan lunges to hold her back. "Let go of meh Logan!! Ah gotta go get 'im!"

"Can't let you, Stripes! Can't risk losing you too!" Logan grunts as he tries to restrain her.

They all hear a loud explosion, the building itself crumbling as it goes up in flames, Jean gasping and covering her mouth while Rogue fell to her knees and felt tears run down her cheeks. "No…" She sobs softly.

The X-men stood there, watching the building crumble and burn, Trask sitting down with his head hung down while a shadow was cast over his face. Logan hugs Rogue tightly, then he perks up as his ears heard some movement. "Scott!" Jean gasps as Scott emerges with smoke on his suit.

He coughs then embraces Jean tightly. Remy also had emerged, coughing, then he spots Rogue who was let go. She rushes up to him, tears in her eyes as she hits his chest. "Ah hate you!" She cried then embraces him, but he pulls her in for a deep kiss.

"Can' be killed dat easily, chère." He mumbles against her lips. "'Sides, I know y' don' really hate m'."

"No ah don't, but don't evah do that evah again or ah'm gonna kill ya." She looks up at him.

Remy gives her a smile, kissing her head, his arms still securely around her smaller frame. "I promise, I won'."

Rogue mumbles into his chest as she hugs him, feeling a light rumble as he let out a soft chuckle. The X-men watched the fire consume the facility, Trask not even saying a word or looking at all his hard work burning away. Scott contacts the Professor on the blackbird, the Professor having contacted SHIELD to take Trask in.

Director Fury steps out of his helicopter at the sight, commanding his men to make sure there wasn't anything in the ruble. Logan shakes Fury's hand, glad to see him again. "Good to see you Fury." Logan smiled a bit.

"Hope you don't mind me taking this gentleman off your hands so he can be locked away. He's caused enough trouble for you and everyone else." Fury nods.

Piotr hands Trask over, taking the metal bar he wrapped around the man off so the SHIELD agents could properly cuff him. "Bolivar Trask, you're going away for a long time after trying to eradicate mutant and humankind. Get him in the 'copter." Fury narrows his eyes at the man who was still looking down.

"You mutants will pay for this!" He suddenly yells out as he sits down and glares out to the X-men. "You hear me! This is not over!"

"Where he's going, there won't be any chances for him to make anymore robots." Fury looks at the X-men, hands in pockets.

"Hope so." Scott sighs.

"Thanks again for comin' out Fury." Logan shakes Fury's hand to which the man smiled.

"It's not problem, Logan. If you need any help, you can always call me. Now, if you don't mind, I have another team I need to go check in on. Can't leave Stark alone for too long." Fury waves as he walks towards the helicopter, getting in and buckling up.

It takes off as the X-men all get back into the blackbird, relieved and ready to go home to rest. Jean and Scott held each other as they sat next to each other, Kitty held Piotr's hand with a small smile while Rogue and Remy were leaning against each other and taking a nap. It was over. They can now rest easily as their looking threat was taken down.

Through the rubble, the head of Master Mold laid offline and still as the blackbird flew away. The head's eyes flash briefly, but only for a second before going still again.
