0.1. Petunia's Hogwarts Year One

Petunia's POV:

1st year.

We were escorted to the great hall by Pr. McGonagall. She seemed a bit strict to me . She said to us about the houses and point system. "Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your Houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your House will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your House, sleep in your House dormitory, and spend free time in your House common room."

"The four Houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each House has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your House points, while any rule-breaking will lose House points. At the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever House becomes yours. The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting."

This was something of which I had no idea. How will they sort me? Will they test us? Even if that is the case I have already read few chapters...but what if that's not sufficient. But it was not as I expected. We have to sit on a chair and an old hat will sort us. I was staring at the hat then suddenly the hat twitched. A rip near the brim opened wide like a mouth - and the hat began to sing. In the song it explained about the four houses. Then the sorting began. After few students it was my turn although Snape said Slytherin is the best , I thought that any house will be okay just select me in one.

I was at the chair hundreds of eyes staring at the sight. I felt a bit uncomfortable so I closed my eyes. After few seconds the hat yelled RAVENCLAW!! Then the third table from left burst into clapping. So I realized I have to sit there. I was a bit sad when Alice was sorted in Gryffindor as she was my first friend here. But being in different house does not mean that we can't be friends anymore. Many students of my house said that three houses other than Slytherin always stay as friends except for Quidditch. They said that we usually keep distance from Slytherin. But I found that revolting. I thought that they are being left out. So I decided that I will not discriminate between houses. "I think that's not fair " I said as I wanted to be friends with everyone. Few of students appreciated me so I was assured that I am doing the right thing. I was just moving my head around when I saw a boy with blonde hairs at the Slytherin table. He must be of upper year I thought . Everyone said that he is a bit arrogant and prejudiced against non - purebloods. After listening that my heart sank. But then I changed topic. "What is Quidditch though?" ... After a while we were sent to our common rooms.

Next day I wrote a letter to Lils.

Dear Lils,

I have been sorted into Ravenclaw. You may inform Sev about it. This place is great. It is an old castle. There are many students here. I made many friends. My first friend here , Alice was sorted in Gryffindor. I was disappointed but then I thought that I will make friends in every house. Sev says that Slytherin is the best but people here think the opposite. I hope I will do well in studies. I will write you another letter next week. You can send the reply through the same owl . It is a school owl.

The first week passed very fast .. the classes have started .. I like transfiguration the most. Flying lessons will start from next week. We will have our classes with Slytherin there. I hope to make friends there. Myra says that I should not mention my muggleborn status in front of Slytherins or else I will be bullied. So I did the same they assume me as pureblood. I don't want to lie but Myra says that if I want them as my friends then I should lie. But I don't plan to do it longer. As they will become my friends I will tell them the truth. But they will know in the classes though when professors will call me by my surname. I was damm worried. Then I had an idea . Although Pr. Flitwick was our head of house , I liked Pr. McGonagall more so one day I asked her that will it be okay if every teacher can call me by my first name. She was reluctant but finally agreed as I was very good in her subject and also decent in other subjects. Then it was done. She was Deputy Headmistress so other teachers took her order to call me Ms. Petunia instead instead of Ms. Evans.

Today was Halloween feast it was amazing. Day before yesterday I received Lily's letter. She says that she is missing me and so am I . I just hate flying .. Myra loves it though. Yupp I am still lying to Slytherins as they are a bit thick I mean at very deep inside they have a good heart but it takes time to reach there. Soon weeks passed and it was finally just one week from the Christmas break. I am very excited to go home and tell Lils everything in person. But I will not let her know of lies though.

Just one day before Christmas I ran into someone on the way to owlery. I almost fell from the stares but the boy I ran into saved me . Then I realized that he was the same boy whom I saw at the Slytherin table on the first day. I thanked and also apologized him for running into him. He did apologized too. And people say that he is arrogant. "Well I am Lucius Malfoy " he introduced himself but didn't raised his hand and asked "And You?". I thought what to tell him . Shall I tell him the truth ?Yes I should tell him the truth." Petunia ...err..er Petunia Prewett" I lied . I don't know why but it seemed right at the moment. It was after he heard my name he greeted me with handshake. So yes he was into all Pureblood madness then. I will tell him the truth though. I made an agreement with myself. Then I sent the letter to Lily. "Why are you using school owl?" he said. "Er.. a punishment..so no owl." I lied again , I just don't know why. He nodded his head. He then said that he is a 3rd year Slytherin, and also a purebloods part of sacred 28. He then said that he is chaser in Slytherin team. "Do you like Quidditch?" He asked . "Well ..emm. not really" i replied. He said that's not problem . I was relieved after hearing that. Then I told him about myself. That I liked transfiguration and like to be called by my first name instead of surname and all that. He was confused for a while but then again became normal as I asked him about Quidditch. "Ohh I am terrible at flying." I said " I can teach you if you want after Christmas break" said Lucius. What he asked me for a date ...no he just asked me for a lesson I explained my self patting on my head. "Sure if that's okay for you " I replied. Then we departed for our common rooms. I told Myra about the incident and she said that I have a crush on him ...What a stupid thing to say I thought. Or do I? But all this was out of my mind when I deboarded Hogwarts Express to meet Mum , Dad and Lils waiting for me.

I just ran hugged them . I was happy to meet them again. We then went home. Wherever we go , home is home. Then me and Lils went to see Sev. He was glad to see me. Then I told them all about Hogwarts. Next day I told Lils about Lucius. And how he asked me for a lesson. She too thinks that he asked me out. I felt guilty for not telling Lils about lies I have said though. Holidays passed soon and before I could tell I was again back to Hogwarts.

Then the day finally came when me and Lucius went to Quidditch pitch for flying lessons . I enjoyed flying that day. Then we decided that we will meet every Saturday for the same. Time was running fast. We soon were near exams but before that there was final Quidditch match - Slytherin vs Ravenclaw. I should support my own house but I don't know why when I saw Lucius flying through the pitch ... suddenly my heart want to cheer for him but my mind forbided me to say so. Match was going nice but then my heart sank as I saw Lucius falling from his broom as he just collided with one of the audience's seat tower. He was after the other chaser when he just slammed into it and fall off. Everyone immediately ran towards him but all of them were Slytherins. I just suppressed the urge to go down there. I felt happy when Ravenclaw won the match but still lost the cup to Slytherin.

Same evening I visited Lucius in the infirmary he has got some broken bones and few bruises here and there. He was a bit surprised to see me there. When I approached him he glanced at his friend group and all went off the room at instant . I think I also imagined some teasing from them. I just sat there and talked a bit . And later I left . We did not meet until the last day of exams.

At last day of exams he gave me one last flying lesson and we agreed to meet again on last day of the term. On last day he gave me his address and I said that I am gonna go to some relatives over summer at Cokeworth, England. Then I finally bid farewell to this wonderful place as I climbed the train.

Later I met my family waiting for me and again I ran and hugged them. I and Lils were talking over the way to home. And now it was over. I need to wait for 2 whole months to again go to Hogwarts and meet Lucius...I mean study lots of things.

A/n: Hope you like it. Petunia was difficult to sort into any one house . She was brave enough as in canon despite being knowing that they may be hunted if they accept Harry but she dared to take the risk. She was very hard working and even kind before all the jealousy stuff due to Lily being witch took place. But I finally decided to put her in Ravenclaw though rather than Slytherin as she became ambitious and self concerned and jealous just because Lily attained her family's attention and she did not. So Slytherin was out too. Also about Alice Long bottom's maiden name I did research and there were two conclusions so I picked Prewett. And yes Lucius must be in 3rd or 4th year now when petunia attended Hogwarts being two years older than Lily coz in canon in Lily's 1st year Lucius was prefect so he must be in 5th or 6th year at that time. So I picked former. Feel free to ask questions.
