Chapter Starts.
In July 1970, Nobby Leach left office for mysterious health reasons, leading to a conspiracy theory that he had been poisoned by his Muggle-prejudice advisor Abraxas Malfoy.He was then replaced as Minister for Magic by Eugenia Jenkins, who, like her predecessor, was sympathetic to issues of social justice. Squibs then began marching for their rights, which spurred pure-blood supremacists to riot. Throughout the decade, with various minority groups demanding to be treated as equals, many of the old, elite pure-blood houses, to which a plentiful number of the earliest Death Eaters belonged, increasingly felt that their very way of life was being threatened. Many pure-blood supremacists who did not join the ranks of the Death Eaters nonetheless gave their wholehearted support to Voldemort's cause in secret even still.
It was in this charged climate that in 1970, Voldemort revealed himself openly, proclaiming himself the Dark Lord, and started to commit extreme acts of terrorism in Britain. With his army of dark wizards and dark creatures at his command, Voldemort launched an assault against the British Ministry of Magic with the intention of toppling it and creating a new world order run by pure-bloods, with Muggle-borns either killed en masse or kept in utter bondage, and Lord Voldemort himself as an immortal leader, though likely ruling from behind the scenes. To achieve these ends, the Death Eaters and their allies (including the particularly destructive Giants, who services Voldemort often used whenever he and his followers wished to go for the grand effect and were responsible for some of the worst atrocities against the non-magical) began openly carrying out attacks on Muggles for sport and to show chaos.
Lily's POV :
It has been two weeks from when I received the Hogwarts letter. Sev too received the same last month. Tomorrow we will be going to Diagon alley to buy my first wand and stuff along with Tuny's 3rd year stuff. Sev has already bought everything with his mother last week. Tuny is happy as now I will be going to Hogwarts too.
Tuny is writting a letter to Lucius asking for his advice as she has to take new subjects this year. She has been writting to him whole summer but still can't write about her feelings. Says that she will tell him in person.
I finally got my wand and now I will come here every year. I liked the goblins in the bank. They kinda felt cute. Tuny says that I will be a Hufflepuff. Sev says I should be Slytherin. I don't have any choice though. Anyone will be great.
Today I am finally going to get to Hogwarts. Me and Petunia waved back merily to our parents. Petunia then went to her friends. I was searching for Snape and then I found him.He told me to better be in Slytherin. But then a boy came and said that Slytherin is the worst. He introduced himself as James Potter. He was with his friend Sirius Black who said that his whole family has been Slytherin and he might be the one to break the tradition. Then I , Sev , James and Sirius sat in a compartment where there was a boy in shaby clothes. He was Remus Lupin. Then we were joined by Peter Pettigrew.
Petunia's POV :
We reached Hogwarts. Lils and Sev will be coming through boats. Me Myra and Alice were in one carriage. This was gonna be my third year here. And now I have to say Lucius the truth. I can't hide it anymore as Lils is here and even Sev. How could I lie now... No I have to tell him the truth.
Pr.Dumbledore gave the speech about Voldemort, his attacks and how we must be united in such dark times. He also says that at this point we must not trust anyone blindly. Then the sorting ceremony began.
Lils has been sorted into Gryffindor while Sev is in Slytherin , I thought at least one them will be in Ravenclaw but nope. Then I glanced at Slytherin table. Lucius was there but he seemed upset. Must be because of his father.
After feast Lily came running into me but I stopped her as I saw Lucius was seeing me. I told her we will meet tomorrow. She agreed. Lucius was now perfect and it's his O.W.L. year. He will be busy this year.
Next day I found Lucius at the library, he was upset. "Are you ok?" I asked. " No my father had forced me to be deatheater. I met him last week. " He replied. " You mean that You know who ?" I asked. " Yes, he is horrible, he says that I am his biggest supporter as dad has led him control over the ministry. He thinks that I will be his most loyal servant." He answered. We talked for an hour. I even missed Divination class. " Who was that girl though?" he asked. " She was my neighbour at some point." I lied. How can I tell him the truth when he needs my support the most. The truth must wait. Then we left for classes.
After that when I was in ground, some Slytherin students called me. " Prewett , meet our new friend - Severus Snape " one of them said. Oh oh Sev must have understood that I lied what if tells everyone. But no he gave me handshake just like he met me for the first time.
Later that evening I explained him everything but not that I lied to Lucius too. He agreed to me but says that I should tell Lils the truth before she gets to know from someone else. Yes he was right. If I don't tell her the truth it will create problems.
Next day when I was sitting with Lucius , Lils ran into me " So this is Lucius Tuny, he is cute sister. " She said with a smirk. But it was I who realised what she has done. " Sister? " Said Lucius. " I am not your sister." I said suddenly, I should not have said that but I couldn't control myself. I was very angry at her ...no at myself. But before I could say anything Lils burst into tears and ran towards the castle from there.
Lucius thought that I must be annoyed with her as she claims to be very good friend even so that she can call me sister. But how could I tell that it has been me who is lying here not Lils. So I just nodded.
Later I found her near the black Lake crying alone. She was mad at me. But then I told her the truth about my lies as I want to be friends with Slytherins.She was horrified to hear that and asked me immediately to tell the truth . But then I promised her that I will tell them the truth very soon. She understood but took time.
So now both of them know that I am lying to Slytherins but dont know that i am lying to Lucius too.
This year I told Lucius that I don't need flying lessons as I learnt it and also that Lucius is busy. He agreed too. Soon the time passed soon and we were near the Christmas break.
Lily's POV:
Petunia is behaving strangely. She is isolating herself from me. I don't like it. Sev too is alone in his house but still he is my best friend.
Then there is James Potter and his friends. They call themselves Marauders or something. They always prank people. Even professors. Last week they painted Slytherin common room with pink. They are funny though. And also good in studies. Well I am better than them. My favourite is potions. Pr. Slughorn seems nice to me. He even invited me to his Slug club. Tuny will be there too. They say that we can bring plus one for the Christmas party too. Whom I can ask ? Maybe Sev right.
Next day. " Sev will you go with me to the Christmas party? " I asked . Sev was surprised but happy too. " As friends I added." . He nodded and accepted. I hope Tuny asks Lucius for it.
Lucius's POV:
I can't hold this more. I was very sad. My dad wants to take some symbol in my hand to be officially called Death Eater. And I have no choice .
Next day I was sitting alone at the library. It was Sunday. Then Petunia came in. " Are you busy ? " She asked. " No just thinking" I answered. " Are you upset on something?" " My father wants to make an mark on my arm so that I will be the part of Dark lord's inner circle. He says I should be proud of it. " I told her everything. She comforted me. We talked for a bit. Then she said at last , "Well you said something to me last year." " What .. I don't reckon. " I answered. What was she talking about? Then she stood up and kissed me on my cheek and then her whole face got red due to blushing and so do mine. " I think now you got it ." She said in teasing voice . I couldn't help but smile. I never expected her to do so. " I too like you Lucius." She said while completely blushing. I thought if she too liked she would have told me so. Why did she waited for these many months. Must be some girl problem, I thought. And I replied " I like you too Petunia ." Now her face turned completely pink. And so did mine and silence took place. Then I finally broke the silence " Then I reckon...err... I mean ..em...Will you go to the Christmas ball with me ? " She said nothing but hugged me. We pulled apart after a minute and she replied " Sure". I was happy at the moment. I just forgot all my sorrows and got lost in her thoughts. Then we got back to our common rooms.
It was now the day of ball we have agreed to meet in the great hall at 7 and then go to the ball together. It was now time and I was waiting for her. After few minutes she came in. She wore a blue dress and blue butterfly earings. She was looking beautiful. We step in the ballroom and ances together. It was nice and then again back to our dormitories. And now I have to back to my house where my parents will finally turn me into death Eater.
Narrator's POV:
The Christmas went nice for Petunia and her sister while Lucius struggled within the battle between himself and his own family. But it was now that Lily has finally realised that Petunia's hiding something.
" What are you hiding ?" Lily asked directly to her sister when they were on the way to meet Severus. " What no, there's nothing." And Petunia again kept it to herself. Then the duo headed towards the Park where they met Snape. It was rough time for him as his father has become a heavy drinker and often vent his anger on him and his mother. The abuse was rising but Severus still denies to complain. Then Petunia instructed Lily to return home and turned to Snape whi was also heading home but was stopped by her.
" What's going on ?" She asked sternly. " I know Sev that you are wearing a glamour charm. It is just because of Dark Lord that the ministry is no longer focusing on trace on children or else you may have been expelled. " she continued. " It's just er. ... that " " Don't even think of lying Sev I know that you can't say this in front of Lils but You can tell me , I am like your sister. " she expressed herself. But Snape kept silent. " Ok then , I must do complain on your behalf. " " No , no please " " Then tell me. " " Okay my dad is very angry because my mother is not well. I mean because she has not used her magic from years there is something wrong with her. I don't know exactly what but there's something that's why his abuse has been increased. " said Snape hesitantly. Snape didn't understand the condition but Petunia did. She wouldn't use magic, but she couldn't get rid of it; it would turned inward and drove her mad, it exploded out of her when she couldn't control it, and at times she would be strange and dangerous. Yes she was becoming Obscurial. Petunia realised that but thought better bit to inform the boy that his mother may die at any moment if she gets out of control. But she has make him aware as she may even hurt Sev , untintionally of course ,but yes she could. So Petunia decided to talk to Pr. Slughorn so that he could deliver the news to his student. So Petunia decided to comfort him. Then when she was about to leave. Snape stopped her and asked " Why are you using Prewett's name? " . Petunia was shocked. She is caught. What if he tells Lucius. Oh no. " Please Sev don't tell anyone, I like Lucius I didn't want to lie, I swear but there was no choice , he is troubled from inside if I will leave him then he would turn into someone who he isn't . Sev please keep it a secret. Don't tell anyone but even Lils. Please Sev. " She explained him hurriedly. Snape thought for a while but then finally agreed.
Sonn the students were back to Hogwarts. Petunia was anxious to meet Lucius. But it has been two days and she didn't even met him . She asked his friends about his whereabout but gained nothing . Something is definitely wrong. Why is he avoiding her? Do he know the truth now. No , how can he? What if Snape told him? But no when she asked Snape he told that he has kept his promise. When she talked with Severus, she remembered that she has to meet Pr. Slughorn.
" Excuse me professor. " She asked politely while knocking the door of his office. " Yes , miss Petunia. " he answered. Then she explained Sev's situation and asked if her suspicion is true. " I am afraid , Yes miss Petunia. I think that his mother has indeed been Obscurial. Don't worry , I will look into the matter. You may leave now unless you want to ask anything else. " Then she left the room . She was relieved. But still where is Lucius.
It was now that Voldemort has reaveled himself , the muggleborns were in danger. Then it was time to form the Order Of Phoenix. The Order of the Phoenix was founded by Albus Dumbledore during Lord Voldemort's first rise to power in the 1970s. Dumbledore formed the Order to combat Voldemort's increasing threat and power. Aurors from the Ministry of Magic also joined the Order to participate in more secretive, sudden assaults aimed to crush the Dark Rebellion. Dumbledore created a method of communication among Order members by inventing a way to make Patronuses speak.
It was now time for the final exams. Petunia still not got a chance to meet Lucius in private. Then on the last day Petunia literally dragged Lucius from the great hall. " Why are you avoiding me? " snapped Petunia. " I don't want to drag you in this. He is very evil. If gets to know you he will try to make you a death Eater just like me. " answered him showing his hand to her. It was there, the death Eater mark. " Oh Lucius you don't have to do this. I am capable enough to not fall in his trap. I will be safe. I just don't want to loose you. " said petunia. " I too don't want to loose you Pet. " and he was cut off as she hugged him tight. The duo talked for hours untill it was time for their departure.
Finally the dark lord has risen. The order is formed . Students are joining the order who are of age. The world is surrounded by the shadows of evil.
