In the last chapter we saw red-x joining the team as he may be an unlikly ally or foe in the future, wait and see. But now sometimes the sidekicks become the heros in their time of need. Sorry if some of the wording is sloppy tried condensing one episode into a single belongs to greg wiseman and Brandon Vietti.
Chapter 27:Last Defense
A shadow started to glide over the earths own moon seeming to be heading straight for it. As it did a massive ship casted over with a deep blue color with several red spots as the ship seemed to be in the shape of turnip with roots attached to it
As it suddenly let out a bright light from the ase coast of the United states where the two green lanterns and batman where right now meeting the ship as batman flipped some switches on the bat plan
"Deploying camera sensor units"he said pushing a button as suddenly two small probes had launched from the bottom of the plane. As it did green lantern scanned the area before going wide eyed on something
"Attention"john stewart says as he apporahced the ship right now
"You have entered the boundaries of earth space. Your to disengage all weapons and enginges this is your final warning"he warned as their was nothing at first before they decide to talk. By launching a devastating red beam at the two green lanterns as it covered them the beam phazed right through them as all that was left was their charred sleketons.
Batman seeing this ejected from his plan with the push of a button for safety. Though from the bay doors suddenly super man, shazam, captain atom and martian manhunter come out in oxygen mask to attack their goe
But the beam of the ship charged up again before firing into the four turning them into ash as their screams echoed through the space but no one heard them. As batman was now in a small plane he flew around before seeing a smaller version of the ship coming right for him before launching an identical beam toward him as he narrowed his gaze toward his fate
Mount justice october 6th 4:00pm
Right now inside moun justice red tornado was manning the screen in the center of the training space with another transmission on right now that being zatara
"Tornado did you–"he was cut off by the android
"We all saw zatara all of us"red tornado said looking back toward the team right now. As they all stared in complete shock with conner looking wide eyed at the sight of superman being gone with jinny being stunned herself. As robin looked down for a moment clenching his fist tight to see his mentor gone right now.
Zatara looked down upset"i will wee you in the field my friend"zatara said as the android nodded as he turned toward the team
"We will defend the city but if that times comes you will need to be earth last line of defense"Red tornado said to their shock
"Are you sure?"wally asked as he nodded taking a zeta tube leaving them as deliah sighed holding her head
"Were screwed aren't we?"she asked
"No. we need to hold for now and see how the situation arises"kaldur said as they watched the screen rights now for any sign of hope right noe.
Slowly right now as they watched it showed the world being destroyed before them right now. Several of these ships where flying around all over the place causing havoc and chaos shooting the same lasers at anyone who crossed their paths. As right now doing their best to stave off the invasion was the magician chanting a spell that turned two ships into gold
But flash was also their speeding through trying his best to take as many ships as he could down. Though as they did flash ran toward a women it seems and some civlians on a roof with zatara but then a red beam of light covered them making the tem all disappear into nothing.
Then another screen flickered to show central city under attack as green arrow was firing arrow upon arrow at their attackers. With black canary firing a devstating sonic blast though like the rest soon enough the ship fired another devastating beam turning them all to ash again at that very moment.
With the others in texas revanant jumped onto a ship as his tattoos glowed aqua colroed before ripping into its wings. This sent it down as on a rooftop was vigilante shooting at any that came his way. But like the rest the two desert heroes soon got shot by the same beam of light.
As right now flyin around the city was wonder women throwing her lasso around one. Before growling as she threw it into another destroying them as red tornado was their before looking up
"Wonder woman above you"he warned as she looked above at a approaching ship using her bracer to block it. But the orange beam came through taking her as well with the android hero looking up at the mother ship before he stared at it ahead
"Red tornado to cave. I fear I am all that remains of the league"red tornado said before suddenly the orange beam came at him in an instant. With the entire team watching this display right now as they all where in complete . it was a long moment right now as the team watched what just happened before them right now.
"We are earths hero now"kaldur said but jinny covered her mouth about to cry right now for the person she just lost
"No…no…greg…no"jinny said hugging herself in tears as conner reached out to place a hand on her with a worried lok.
As red-x huffed"so what we getting a little theme song right now?"he joked as wally eyed him walking over shoving him back slightly
"Shut up this isn't the time to joke"wally said in a serious tone with kaldur walking over getting inbetwen them as he eyed wally who stared back looking away sighing
"Earths weapons are inffective and it has been made trgicallt clear direct attacks won't succeed. Robin any idea?"he asked with slight hope as the boy wonder paused before searching through his holo gloves as he found something
"Well i've checked satellite imagery and well heres where they are now"he said pulling something up that being the alien ships hovering over a large fortress right now which confused a few of them
"Is this one lost or something?"deliah asked as they shared looks
"Ummm that superman fortress of solitude"robin corrected to their surprise right now the boy in blue has a secret fortress which made super become confused and offended a little
"He has a fortress of solitude?"he asked
"The power source inside the place must have attracted him. I mean if hes got a fortress place gotta have some alien tech. right?"Red x asked looking toward robin who smirked
"He does but…this one seems to be a scout ship"robin said with conner scoffing as he crossed his arms
"Must be some fortress huh"Conner growled as jinny was still emotional after losing her father figure. But quickly placed a hand on his back to comfort him immediately
"Conner…it'll be fine"jinny said as he soften his gaze
"I'm okay. Guess i don't know alot about superman…i'll never know now"he said with a upset look for the man he was cloned from
"We will target this lone ship then"kaldur stated as wally smiled smacking his fist together
"Yeah break it down. Build some more and boom we hit them with their own medicine. Lets see how they like it"wally said making artemis laugh slightly as the others decided to get geared up for their mission to save the world right now
After some time they soon were in the bioship flying through the arctic winds at that moment. But slowly they made their way down to the ground as a ship was flying around but jinny and artemis both claded in winter gear right now shared a look nodding as they stared at a door labeled with an S.
As flying camouflage through the air was miss martian before her eyes glowed green. Then she used her telekienesis to rip the ship wing off. The ship flew around for a moment in the air struggling slightly
"Propulsion are disbalied and communications"she relayed as immediately artemis came out from her hiding spot before firing a few arrows at the center of the ship. With jinny assisting her firing off her rifle toward it. As the arrow hardened before the ship fired at them but this managed to cover the ship slightly
"Ship covered fish boy!"she called out as aqulad froma vantage point under some ice jumped through it. As he used his waterbeares to coat the ship into water sinking it a little as the ship tried to shoot at him. But immedialty wolf growled tackling him out of the way to safety as the atlantian nodded thanking the canine
Immediately kid flash ran around barely bein seen like a blur. Jumping off of him was robin who landed on the ship slowly sinking into the ice. But as he did miss martian deliver three quick telekinetic blast right where the boy was. As he leaped out of the way with one of the laser lighting up
Seeing this superboy growled gripping the metal of the laser to try and rip it off or come loose. Though as it did the laser began to white to life as his trusted canine barked before he jumped at him. This knocked the clone out of the way before looking up going wide eyed to see the laser take his canine companion as he growled in complete rage
"Nooo!"he growled in rage right now as he leaped forward slamming his fist down onto the ship hard stunning it. Though as he went at the laser cannon again pulling even harder trying to rip it off its hinges. With jinny firing at the ship eyeing the martian
"Hey miss M call in your little ship please"she asked as the martian nodded before calling to her bioship. Suddenly superboy tore the laser off tossing it to the ship as it took the weapon seeming to integrate the weapn into its ships matrix. Seeing this deliah smiled
"Now we got some fire power. Take em down M!"she called out but she had bad news
"It'll take time for bioship to integrate the weapon we need to be decamouflauge for a moment."miss martian said through their mind link to their annoyance right now
"Well then i got you covered! Get inside!"artemis called out as they all began to run toward the bioship at that moment. With this happening red x zipped forward as he got into the ship waiting for everyone else. As they all began to get on but artemis was lagging behind as artemis nocked three arrows firing them at the still functioing ship as they blew up
But suddenly the ship cannon whied to life beofre firing another laser toward her. As miss martian looked back goin completely wide eyed
"Artemis!"she shouted out as artemis looked ahead going wide eyed. Before the laser covered her as it slowly disappeared to reveal nothing was their as wally growled in rage
"Artemis!"he yelled out as aqualad had a murderous look in his eyes brandishing his water bearers
"Inside now"he ordered as they all paused for a moment but ran inside the ship. As where the ice was broken right now he used his magic to launch a torrent of ice ripping it apart. Which broguth the ship up to thirty feet but as it came back down it had no effect. With the fish themed hero thinking of one thing before turning the water intoa giant icicle that went through the ship blowing it up.
Right now all of them where inside of the bioship right now as m'gann fought her tears back right now breathing slowly but she was holding back her tears. As deliah was slamming her fist in rage on the console infront of her
"Dammit…dammit…not you…dammit"She cried and cried as kid flash growled holding his head slamming both fist down
"Dammit! Not her…how many more people will we loose"kid flash said as red-x crossed his arms
"You all can mourn later. We got a new job because we gotta save the earth apparently…which is so great"red-x said as they stared at him as kaldur closed his eyes as he was right
"He is right but we should head to the hall of justice. Its probably the last safe havan for the human race"kaldur said as they agreed charting a new course for their destination
Right now outside of a large building made of stone marble it seems was the sight of the mighty hall of justice. As right now outside of the building was the army with the american flag flying hide right now as the army was their onstand by with them watching out for anything with the tanks and soldiers at the ready
Though soon enough coming into their airship was an alien ship but the bioship opened as out jumped they all hoped out with some of the soldiers in surprise by them but one them cheered laughing
"Hot dam we got superman here. Told yah he wouldn't leave us"A soldier said elbowing the superboy for a moment
"I don't see a cape. But he looks young all of yah do"another soldier stated as the clone stared down.
"But i'm not him"conner replied but someone could say otherwise
"I say otherwise son"A man said as walking over was a man who was an older caucasian male with blye eyes and gray hair. As he wore a military unifrom for the united state with four stars on his collar for his rank. But he wore a green beret on his head as he stared at them
"I don't know who any of you are. But your wearing that S i've seen you work with that man before. And you can get the job done i'm sure"the soldier said before looking toward them
"I'm general wade eiling U.S air force."the general said
"Aqualad justice league. We can help salvage these cannons to use for our own if possible. How many have you taken down"aqualad asked
"About four of them though come inside"eiling said as they followed him inside. Once they where inside they where met by a force of united state soldiers and marines. But their was also a few civlians here as red-x eyed them seeming bothered by it which robin noticed
"Worried for them? Thought you where a thief?"he asked
"Hey a thief can have a heart"red-x replied back as conner stopped staring at the statue of superman closing his eyes. But felt a hand on his back from jinny who stared at the ground
"Sorry to hear your mentor gone too…guess we share that"jinny said as he sighed
"Guess we do"conner replied as m'gann walked around eyeing the statues before landing on her uncle. Though as she looked at it was destroyed right now as she hugged herself ready to sob with deliah reaching an arm out wrapping her up close. Watching this was red-x with intrigue
"Ohhh girl on girl action here"red-x joked making deliah growl at her right now
"Shut up prick she lost her uncle"deliah said but that piece of rubble started to move to their confusion. All the soldiers aimed their rifles at it but slowly from the rubble it was lifted revealing someone that being martin manhunter as m'gann smiled
"Uncle j'onn!"sher cheered hugging him right now as deliah and conner helped get the rubble off him. As the man he;d his head for a moment but kaldur stepped forward
"M'gann he might not be who he appears to be check his mind"he ordered as the martian flinched before staring at her uncle for a moment reading his mind before smiling hugging him again
"Its him hes alive…hes alive"m'gann reassured but this confused them right now
"Wait but…we saw you get disintergrated…you superman….everyone"Conner said in shock as the man rubbed his head
"I remember but…i cannot remember how i surivved"he said but his niece had an idea
"You probably density shifted and the beam passed through you"m'gann offered
"Scrambling your brains along the way"robin said as the martin held his head for a moment wincing in pain feeling a cloudly mind
"My mind is cloud i feel like i was going to tell you something"j'onn said but wally eyed him for a moment before eyeing the cannon. Immedialty he zipped over dragging robin over right now to their confusion
"What are doing kid mouth?"artemis asked as he had an idea
"Robin hook your glove up i think i got a theory"kid flash said as the hero did as instructed. His glove came on at that moment as he stared at it before going wide eyed seeing something
"Its giving off zanopenes!"he shouted to some confusion
"Zanopenes? What are those exactly?"deliah asked as kid flash smiled
"Their the stuff that power our zeta tubes. These thing are disintegrate its teleporting them….so artemis could be alive!"wally cheered as red-x chuckled
"You into this chick or something buddy"red-x asked as the speedster paused for a moment
"No! I umm…well…not as much as deliah and m'gann are into each other"kid flash said making some go quiet as the martin blushed for a moment that he said that as deliah glared at him
"Shut up you idiot! I…ah crap"deliah said as she let it slip out as their one time of need for heroes they bring up their dating world. With red-x whistling for a long moment as jinny was happy to hear her mentor was possible alive as she smiled at the two
"You two are a thing? Well this is interesting….by the way who else knew?"jinny quickly aksed as some shared looks with robin scanning his hologlvoe but focused as he raised his hand as conner eyed them
"You two always are with each other kinda figured it out"conner said as they got back on the topic at hand right now.
"So wait all of them are alive?"red-x asked
"Probaly but maybe thats why you cam here to tell us their still alive"Robin said to the manhuner who gripped his hand in pain slightly. Though the sound of ships could be heard right now as they looked through the class seeing several ships coming through.
"Crap we gotta get out of here"deliah said as aqualad eyed the one leaguer here
"Can you grant us acces to the zeta tubes we cannot make it to the bioship from here"aqualad said
"I can but….m'gann try to call to her"manhutner siad as his niece did with the glass crashing in. as the bioship came in but immediately a bright laser came out of nowhere hitting the ship as a loud screech of pain came from it. This caused m'gann to cry in pain clutching her head as jinny growled
"We gotta fall back!"she called out as they began to run toward the hall with manhunter running to the doors in the room
"I can authorize one at a time"he said
"Send the soldier first"kaldur decided
"Belay that you all are our best assets we can't lose"eiling snapped as the martin nodded before overdiing access
"overide :martin manhunter, zero seven"he said as the computer beeped recognized him as the zeta tube began to spin up at that moment.
Miss martian, B-06, Robin B-01, Kid flash B-03, Private jason bard a-04. It said as the doors suddenly exploded before them as aquald was their as they all stared at the sight. Immediately jinny ran forward seeing some trapped soldier as she helped them up as the ship began to charge the laser
Superboy went wide eyed"watch out!"superboy called out as jinny looked back going wide eyed as the laser hit her turning her into nothing. The clone growled in rage but kaldur stared at him closing his eyes before sharing a look with red-x
Immediately the thief shoved him through teleporting him through as he stared at the atlantian
"Better come on the other side fish boy"red-x said as he drew his water bearers
"I shall try"kaldur said as red-x slipped through as the magic weilder let the soldier go in first letting them travel to the other side. As he leaped toward the ship right now at the ready. Once on the other side the others all stare at each other as manhunter approached them with a concerned look
"So what do we do now?"deliah asked as superboy was seething in rage slowly keeping his cool right now but robin took charge
"Missions clear if we believe the aliens have been teleporting their victims we–"robin was stopped
"They are teleporting them"he corrected as he eyed him
"Their only one reasonable detention faicltiy then. The mothership atop smallville ring any bells?"robin asked projecting the hologram of the ship as the manhunter held his head for a moment right now
"I'm i am sorry"manhunter replied with a confused look
"Then superboy and wraith will create a distraction"robin ordered to the martin shock
"No! Hes offering you two as scarfieces! Aquald would never do this!"m'gann shouted in worrie as deliah took her hand sighing
"Were the powerhouses"she said as conner nodded controlling his rage
"Shes right. They'll be targeting us i'm guessing"he asked the boy wonder who looked down
"Aquald scarifeced himself, a mistake costed us our leader. They'll perceive both of you as threats and you can cover him with your kinetic blast and charges"robin said
"Worst case your both teleported inside i call that a win. We free you two, arrow chick, cowgirl and fish boy"red-x said with a cocky tone as they all turned toward each other at the ready right now.
After some time the team soon found themselves on a barren spot where the mothership was. As they where looking at it with a few of them right now getting ready with some charges with red-x placing them over his chest. As they did wally sighed as he held his head
"If we make it out of this then where all going out to eat after saving the world and the league"kid flash said
"Sure if your buying"red-x said making the speedster smirk as robin looked at the two maritnas
"First team deploy"robin said as the two flew up as m'gann threw her hood up sharing one last with her girlfriend who gently waved to her. As the two camofualge they apporahced the large ship just getting close enough to the hull of it. As j'onn pases through m'gann does to.
But as she did she groans before straightening up quickly right now.
"Ready and in positon"m'gann relayed through their link as wally and robin hang onto superboy. Immediately he leaped forward into the air as red-x was princess carried by wraith as he looked annoyed under his mask as she used her powers as the blue haze covered her launching her into the air
As they where going forward soon enough they landed onto the as superboy crashed through a wall. As he set down the boy wonder with kid flash running off slightly as red-x jumped out of wraith arms. With them on the side of the ship.
"Careful don't disconnects its power source"Robin remind as superboy aproahced the first gun ripping one out carefuly then to the next as wraith picked it up grunting using her enhanced strength from her powers.
"Okay then lets see how they like a taste of their own medicine"superboy said getting onto the gun finding them to be alien. But sticks his hand in it finding the trigger before firing onto the invaders. Wraith followed suit grinning as she began switching a few targets shooting down a few of the props laughing
"This is like a video game but in real life"wraith cheered firing down a few ships as kid flash nodded using his speed to zip away with red-x and robin. As they did they soon reached an hanger being emptied out as their was a patrol of strange bots passing by them.
Watching carefully the three then made their way further into the ship right now.
Right now outside the others where struggling a little as conner was firing a laser at another ship. With deliah panting as she tired to lift the guns but it fell down onto the ship as she looked up going wide eyed seeing the laser beam coming right for her as all she could see was red.
As inside m'gann decamouflages before losing her balance as her uncle caught her as she was ready to cry right now
"No…their gone…both of them"she said as the others where their with wally coming to her side
"Hey they'll be okay alright"wally reassured but the manhunter looked wide eyed
"No"manhunter said getting their attention
"My mind is clearer now. That is exactly what it is a disintegration beam. No prisoners…no detention faiclity. Our missions hold no purpose"manhunter said to their shock right now as m'gann was ready to break down crying as wally grabbed him
"No! You're wrong! Their was zeta radiation which proves she was alive! Shes!..."he was stopped as red-x placed a hand on his shoulder as the two shared a look
"She aint here kid"red-x said making wally growl as he swiftly turned around slamming him into the ships wall
"Shut up! They have to be here they all can't be dead!"kid flash said but robin looked down
"Stop it KF. i've scanned for the league and team the entire time. None of them are here all of them are gone."robin said to their shock as wally opened his mouth to say something but he gritted his teeth in anger. As m'gann slowly worked her way up to her feet as red-x eyed the door before them
Walking over he approached it as it opened by itself to reveal a room bathed in a red light. With a gigantic looking orange sphere with metal plating in the middle with two drones on the side of the sphere
"Well lookie here found the power core. We blow this up and throw those guys a heroes parade…what do yah say?"red-x asked as they though about it. But as they walked inside suddenly the gravity on the platform started to change as robin slipped landing on the closest edge. But suddenly the sphere began to drag his body forward
Wally was close enough to him as the martin where in the air being pulled by it. As red-x leaped forward launching a tether to hold the two in place. But as he did he shared a look with the martian girl for a moment as the drones approached them
M;gann launched a blast at the first then her uncle knocks it away completely. The two of them soon desotry the second as the gravity restablized for them as robin saw the glowing sphere
"You knew didn't you?"Wally asked looking down as the two shared a look
"I did….the main reason where here we have four minutes"robin said setting the charge as they decided to start running. As they did they soon reached the hanger as the doors where closed as wally banged on it
"Great just great"he gripes as six drones appeared with red-x eyeing the manhunter for a moment
"Hey green guy take your niece and go we got this"Red-x said with confidence to her shock
"No we can't leave you all"m'gann begged but robin eyed her
"Thats an order we can follow after blowing the blast doors"robin said as the manhunter grabbed his niece taking her out. Once he did the three shared look as the thief chuckled to himself
"Well…guess this is it huh joined your little team and off to a great start"Red-x said with a chuckle as they lunged forward to fight the drones. Before the ship started to explode from the inside. As outside m'gann watched in complete horror seeing the whole thing go up in complete shock right npw
"Don't tell me…this…this was a success….i…i…we lost everyone"m'gann said as she looked up in tears seeing another ship as she backed up in complete fear. But her uncle opened his eyes before doing something. Suddenly m'gann felt immense pain in her chest as she looked down to see her own uncle hand through it. She looked at him betrayed as she cried sielntly in pain
Mount justice october 16th 4:37pm
Inside mount justice m'gann opened her eyes right now as her hair was floating right now. But she gasped for air snapping to life sitting up as she looked around in shock. Right now infront of her shazam was helping up wally slowly from a bed with red tornado helping up artemis. As revannt helped deliah who was panting in complete shock as she smiled
"Your all alive!"She cheered but robin whipped the sweat off his face
"What happened in their?"batman asked the martin manhunter
"The exercise went wrong"manhunter said to their shock
"E-exericse?"jinny asked heaving through her breaths.
"You don't remember?"Revanant asked as they paused as red-x made sure his mask was tightly secured
"No…what was this?"red-x asked as they explained
"We physically linked your minds to manhunters for a training simulation"red tornado started
"You all knew this was going on but what you didn't know it was trained for failure. But during that time every accomplishment it got worse. Though even with the league death you all hardly grieved"he said as manhnter continued
"Thats why you hardly react when wolf turned to ash before your eyes. You reacted when one of you was gone for a brief second"manhunter said before looking toward artemis for a moment
"But that changed when she died. Consciously m'gann knew it wasn't real but her subconscious mind could not make that distinction. She forgot it was an exercise. That when her subconscious took control making you all forget too."manhunter said as some looked at m'gann who covered her mouth in complete shock
"I..i..i'm so sorry"m'gann said as deliah walked over hugging her tight for a moment
"This isn't her fault! I…i mean why didn't you stop it!"Wally asked
"We did. But she had a deathgrip on the scenario i needed to wrestle control. But as i entered the reality i was overwhelmed by all your collective emotion. Too much noise to think cleary on why i was their"manhunter said
"But what happened to us?"jinny asked
"Once artemis died we tried to wake her. But the shock made it where she believed she had passed on. That also followed suit with the rest of you. But after the deaths of wraith, superboy and aqualad..it cleared my mind"manhunter said startling the three for a moment
"But only when the mothership exploded my mind was silence and i remembered my true purpose. I had to shock m'gann out of the exercise before all of you went into permanent comas"manhunter said to their shock right now
"I had no idea this training exercise could be so dangerous or…damaging"manhunter said but m'gann turned away from them before covering her face falling to her knees starting to cry. With deliah walking over hugging her close right now as shazam knelt down to console the teens as he did batman stared at the martian before him
"How bad was it?"batman asked
"It may be troubling them now as we speak"manhunter said
"Yet this is not what troubles you i take"red tornado asked as he eyed his niece for a moment
"Make no mistake. My niece is untrained and cannot be held responsible for this debacle. But…"he paused
"No one blames her. Though we clearly underestimate her abilities"batman said but he was corrected
"You understate it. In terms of raw power she had the strongest telepathetic mind i have ever encounters. Stronger than mine probably"manunter said as m'gann sobbed into her girlfriend arms for what she did to her friends.
It seems that the team survived the training exercise for the time being. Along with some figuring out m'gann and deliah relationship together. Though how will this trauma affect them in the future. Thanks for reading!
