Chapter 2: CEO ?
Felicity who had stood there silently during the exchange finally spoke. "Laurel, is there anything you need?" she said, placing her hand on her shoulder.
Laurel looked at her with a small smile, "Thanks, maybe a bottle of water."
"You got it," the blonde responded, heading off.
Laurel turned to John with a small smile before saying
"I plan on joining him, being a lawyer has never been enough" pointing to Oliver "all my cases this year were solved thanks to his help. I'm going to get myself trained, and as soon as I'm ready I'll be joining him in the field" she declared.
"You really want this?" John questioned.
"Yes, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing he's out there by himself" Laurel answered.
"He has me and Felicity" John responded, not liking a fact Laurel had all but joined the team on her own.
"Felicity doesn't help him in the field, and from what it sounds like you only support him out there on certain occasions" she parried.
"You don't have the training, while your self-defense classes are top-notch that is nowhere enough for what we go up against" John responded.
"I'm helping him, as soon as I'm ready I have no Illusions I'll be out there tomorrow. Training it's going to take months, the moment I'm ready I'll be out there by his side" Laurel responded.
With that, John put his arms up and limped away. As far as he was concerned this was a terrible idea, Oliver didn't see clearly when it came to Laurel. Her joining the team would just complicate things. And his view that three of them was enough. He was certain Felicity felt the same.
Eventually, after a short conversation with Felicity Laurel fell asleep in the chair next to Ollie's cot with Felicity's water bottle in hand and with the other clutching Oliver's.
"Laurel?" Oliver's eyes opened after roughly an hour and a half. He grimaced as he sat up, damn the shoulder hurt. Looking around he found both Felicity and John gone.
"Ollie, take it easy, your shoulder," Laurel advised, rubbing her eyes.
"Yeah, remind me never to stab myself to dispatch an enemy" Oliver responded again grimacing.
"I want to help you, Oliver the thought of you out there alone terrifies me" Laurel stated
"You're thinking about becoming part of the mission." Oliver wanted to facepalm he had known this would happen if she ever discovered his identity.
"Yes, Ollie. I know I'll need training. But I want to join you and fight beside you" she begged.
Oliver stood and began to pace. He wasn't getting out of this one once Laurel put her mind to something she wasn't going to stop. It was one of the things he loved about her.
"Okay, I'll train you. My rules you will not be going out on the field until I declare you're ready" Oliver said in a firm voice.
"I can learn, Oliver."
"You better" he responded.
With that the couple came together, exploring each other's bodies as Laurel pushed Oliver back down on the cot.
S.C.P.D : 12:00 pm
Oliver, arriving with Laurel by his side, was immediately greeted by a distraught Thea. "Ollie, I don't understand how could Mom do this?" She asked, throwing herself into a Brother's arms, body wracked with sobs. For Oliver's part, he simply held his sister and rocked her gently.
Laurel leaving the pair of siblings "Ollie, I got to find Dad."
Oliver nodded, as the family lawyer approached Jean Loring, alongside Walter. "Oliver we need to speak now in private, it's about the company" Walter spoke giving Thea an apologetic look.
With that Trio made their way into one of the empty police interrogation rooms. "Oliver, I know you have a lot going on right now. But you must sign these papers turning a company over to you. Robert put these contingency plans in place years ago just in case anything happened to him in your mother" Jean spoke.
Oliver glanced over the papers "These would make me CEO" not hiding a small tremble in his voice.
"Yes," Walter responded.
"I remind you I never finished College, never finished Business School" Oliver responded.
"Oliver my boy, it can only be you. Only you can stabilize a company, it's your name on the building. Your father always had faith in you would have never done this otherwise" Walter responded back.
Jean took over "I'm sorry Oliver you have to make a decision now, before your mother is formally charged she goes before the judge within an hour"
Oliver paled at this, but he didn't have a choice; he couldn't lose the Queen Fortune. His crusade to protect the city depended on that money, "I accept, where do I sign?"
Laurel arriving at her father's desk, I was immediately greeted by a hug, "My God Laurel where have you been I've been trying to call you I've been worried sick"
Laurel swallowed knowing he wouldn't like the answer "I've been with Oliver all night"
Upon hearing this Quentin stepped away hand on forehead, "No, No, No" he mumbled to himself, before turning back to his daughter.
"My God Laurel it's one thing to be friends with him, but this welcoming him back with open arms"
"Daddy, I love him. Maybe I'm making a mistake but it's my mistake to make. He's changed even you admitted to that" she countered maintaining a calm demeanor.
Quentin shook his head, "Okay, I can see I'm not going to win this argument. But please be careful I love you and don't want you hurt again" he stated, clearly unhappy.
"Thank you, Dad," she responded.
"This doesn't mean I will be supporting relationship, I'm only recognizing this is your choice to make I don't like it" pausing for a moment, turning away, "But you are a grown woman with the right to make no mistakes" "Mom?" Oliver said as the officer open the door letting the siblings in. " Mom, how could you? All those innocent people didn't even think of them?" Thea snarled at her mother. Moira looked down in shame.
"Mom, Jean said you're going for the judge in an hour. I signed the papers turning the company over to me" Oliver stated without emotion.
"What?!" Thea blurted out in shock. Oliver turned to his sister and said "Dad had contingency plans put in place, as of 5 minutes ago I'm now the CEO of Queen Consolidated, as strange as it sounds" Oliver turns his attention to his mother "Mom, thank you for turning against Malcolm it probably saved hundreds of lives" Thea looking confused,
"Ollie, how did you know about this?." "I only found out the truth last night, after Walter was kidnapped I started to look into things with the help of an IT girl at QC," Oliver responded. "So the yelling I heard last night".
"Yes, it was me confronting Mom" Oliver stated. Moira now chimed in "Yes, your brother's words convince me to move past my fear and go to the media".
"Fear?" Thea questioned. "Malcolm killed your father, he sabotaged the boat I've been living in fear, these past five years everything I did was to protect you" Moira responded. "Uncle Malcolm killed dad,"
Thea said her voice trembling, turning away from her mother. "Yes, your father was opposed to what Malcolm was planning and was killed for it" Moira stated. "So all the pain in the past 5 years, losing Oliver, Dad, and Sara, was because of that sick bastard?" Thea asked. "Yes," Oliver responded, taking his sister in his arms. Suddenly the door
opened revealing Jean, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I must speak to your mother to prepare her for the hearing" Oliver nodded, leading his distraught sister out of the room.
Where they met Laurel who was waiting for them. "I'm sorry Thea," the older woman said with kindness in her voice. Which caused Thea to collapse into her arms and sobbed.
