The cold light of dawn seeped through the cracks in the blinds, casting a harsh, unwelcome glow on Lucy's tear-stained pillow. The scent of stale alcohol and regret hung heavy in the air, a cruel reminder of the night before. She winced as her eyes fluttered open, her heart pounding against her ribs like a desperate prisoner. Her gaze settled on the blank walls that surrounded her, as barren and devoid of life as she felt inside. As the first rays of morning pierced her safe haven of darkness, she began to grapple with the painful reality: her life was spiraling out of control, and she had no one but herself to blame. Her mother's disapproving face flashed in her mind, along with the smug smirk of a man who had promised love but delivered nothing but pain. A wave of self-loathing washed over her as she lay there, immobile yet restless, consumed by thoughts of how she could mend the broken pieces of her twenties.
Lucy was struggling to avoid falling back into old habits, but also trying not to sink into a state of depression where she would be tempted to relapse. The most important relationship she wanted to mend was with her mother, and the fact that she shut down the other night when her mom tried to put her to bed instead of staying with her showed how volatile their dynamic was. If she had given in, it could have been the end - yet she resisted.
Three taps at her door made her shuffle in bed. After clearing her throat she called out, "Yes?"
"I'm going grocery shopping for mom, did you want to come?"
Lucy dreaded going grocery shopping, mainly because of the chilly, desolate atmosphere that left her feeling uneasy and eager to leave. However, she would still rather endure this discomfort than stay cooped up in her room, lost in her own thoughts, when she could be out with Scott instead
"Well, sure."
Lucy rose from her bed and quickly pulled on a pair of soft, worn sweatpants over her loose pajama shorts. Scott leaned against the doorway of her room, his eyes following his older sister's movements with concern. She still seemed tense and awkward, as if every step was a struggle. A small sigh of frustration escaped from Scott's lips and Lucy snapped her head up to meet his gaze. Her expression was guarded, but her eyes held a hint of vulnerability and pain.
"What?" She said through a small chuckle, looking up to make eye contact with Scott. "Don't tell me you dont like my spongebob shorts."
The siblings smiled at eachother and the boy of the two shook his head and turned around, "I'll meet you in the car."
Scott asking his sister to come grocery shopping was definitely a fail. Lucy was not helpful at all- not that he needed the help but all she did at her grown age was pick out her favorite snacks and run with them to the car after they had finished paying, leaving Scott with the actual heavy groceries.
As Scott walked across the dimly lit parking lot, he swore Lucy chose the heaviest items she could. As the cook of the family, she was of course the one who chose most of the foods and even with the wolf powers, his arms were exhausted from walking around the parking garage.
And why had he been walking for so long? Scott stopped in his tracks and scanned his surroundings. Then it hit him, he forgot where they parked. He sighed heavily and turned around to try one more time on another level.
He wandered around for a few minutes before coming to a halt once more, shaking his head at his own impulsiveness. Giving up, he plopped the multiple bags onto the ground and reached into his pocket for his cell phone. After a brief moment of consideration, he debated whether or not to call his sister. Lucy wouldn't be of much assistance; she was sitting in the car, munching on a chocolate bar with her phone set to silent as usual, unbeknownst to him.
As Scott fumbled with his phone, a bottle of milk began to roll out of the bag he had placed on the floor. He stopped what he was doing to reach out and grab the milk but he was too late and it slipped out of reach under a car.
As if this little moment in the parking garage couldn't get any worse. The boy got down to the car's level and reached under to grab at the bottle- but it rolled back. He examined the milk with a perplexed look… and that was before he noticed the three puncture wounds. They were definitely from claws.
Scott's heart dropped to his ass. His mind immediately went to Lucy and he had no idea where she was either. Shit.
Completely ignorant to the danger her little brother was in, Lucy was sitting in her car skipping through songs on her phone to sing along too. She had rushed to get out the store and she definitely did not feel bad about leaving Scott with all the other groceries. But the real issue she had right now- why the hell was he taking so long?
Maybe he had seen a girl or something and tried to get her number. Lucy paused as the thought ran through her head and laughed out loud at herself. Yeah right.
The growl echoed off the concrete walls of the garage, growing louder and more menacing with each passing second. It sent a primal fear through the girl's body, making her heart race and her breath quicken.
In an instant she turned off her radio and shrinked in her seat. Where the hell was her little brother?
As if the growling noises weren't enough, car alarms started blasting through the entire parking lot- the annoying beeping filled her ears to the point where she could not hear anything else. Lucy's heart was pounding- and she felt like she was visibly shaking with fear.
Even though she was terrified, she still couldn't forget the thought of her little brother being outside in any kind of danger. She had to call him. Unlocking her phone with a shaking hand, she dialed Scott's number and held the phone to her ear, hoping to hear over the symphony of car alarms.
Nothing. To gain some kind of courage, Lucy inhaled deeply and turned off her car. All for Scott. After exiting her car, she slowly walked through the garage- trying her hardest to get closer to the sound of the alarms that were fading away.
As she walked, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was playing the role of the dumb girl in a horror movie. But there was no chance she would abandon her brother in this terrifying situation. The blaring car alarms were becoming fainter, but luckily Lucy was able to pick up on the sound of two voices arguing. One of them undoubtedly belonged to Scott.
She began to jog down the asphalt until she got a little closer, and then began to creep on the side of a car until her little brother…and Derek Hale came into view. She definitely noticed how many times she had run into him in such a short amount of time.
He was speaking in an aggressive tone, "I'm what I am because of birth. You were bitten. Teaching someone who was bitten takes time. I'm not even sure I can teach you."
Lucy listened intently with absolutely no idea what the hell this man was on about. Scott was exasperated in his reply, "What do I have to do?"
Derek chuckled, grabbing Scott by the front of his shirt and pulling him up to his feet. Lucy tried hard not to run out and stop him right there- but how comfortable and trusting Scott seemed influenced her to not move a muscle.
Derek then reached into Scott's jacket and pulled out his phone. He showed the screen to the boy and said, "you have too many distractions."
"Am I supposed to ignore my sister?"
Derek was quiet, like he was thinking before he just hurled the cell phone across the parking garage.
Scott and Lucy both reacted to the sound of the phone hitting the concrete floor with a flinch. The sudden noise was all too familiar to her, causing her to gasp audibly and alerting both men to her presence.
She immediately ducked behind the car, hoping they didn't see her. There was no way she was hiding from her own brother.
"Derek, stop!" She heard Scott's panicked voice. She could sense their presence getting closer, but she tried to convince herself it was just her imagination to calm her nerves. Her heart started racing as she waited for them to reach her.
"I'm just helping you with your distractions," Derek said. He followed his ears to the pounding of the girl's heart, creeping up until he found her crouching behind a car.
She looked up at him with sweet, scared brown eyes that actually made his heart skip in that second.
His words came out in a jumbled mess as he struggled to speak. His eyes were transfixed on her, taking in every detail of her beauty. She was like a rare flower, delicate and captivating. The soft curve of her lips, the sparkle in her eyes, and the way her hair fell perfectly around her face all added to her radiance. He couldn't help but feel his heart skip a beat in her presence.
"Leave her alone," Scott practically was growling and Derek definitely noticed. That was the one thing he needed to teach Scott- to control his anger and control the wolf. It was hard to hide his smirk as he looked down at the girl- who had still not moved -and a genius idea formulated in his head.
He held a hand out to Lucy and when she hesitated he just reached down and grabbed her hand for her. She didn't resist and he easily pulled her to her feet which brought a tiny gasp out of her mouth. Derek felt ashamed that he liked it.
"What's wrong, Scott?" He zeroed his hearing in on the angry pounding heart of the teenager and chuckled. "This is your sister, right?"
"Let her go." He was talking through gritted teeth now.
Lucy took it upon herself to back away from Derek at the sight of her brother's distress. "Scott, are you okay?"
"Lucy, get away from him."
Derek raised a brow to go with his smirk. "Getting angry, Scott? I'm just helping her up."
Confusion was an understatement for Lucy's current state. She had no clue what was happening and the tense atmosphere was making her uncomfortable.
Scott locked eyes with her and even she saw the urgency in his eyes. "Lucy, go back to the car."
"Uh-ok" Even with him being the little brother, she figured it was better for her to butt out of his business for now and step away from the boys in front of her.
Her gaze couldn't help but flick up to the towering figure before her, his piercing eyes still locked onto hers. A wave of nerves washed over her, causing her palms to grow clammy in his presence. Every encounter with him was a rollercoaster of emotions, as if he embodied multiple personalities that brought out different sides of her as well. Each time she interacted with him, it was like meeting a whole new person and discovering an entirely new version of herself in response.
"Uh, bye." What was consistent everytime, though, was how nervous she felt around him. She wanted to rush away everytime she saw him.
"Bye, Lucy." As for Derek, as much as Scott's older sister intrigued him- looking back at Scott made him realize he could use her in a very different way than just trying to romanticize her.
"What the hell was that?" Scott questioned once the coast was clear.
"Hm?"
"WIth my sister?"
"That was nothing. But like I tried to tell you- getting angry is the only key. You want to learn how to control this? How to shift? You do it through anger. By tapping into a primal, animal rage."
"I can get angry without you bothering Lucy."
" You're so mad about me talking to your sister- you think he won't go after her too? You're weak, Scott. And one of the biggest reasons is because of the girl. You need to stay away from the girl. She makes you weak and with her around you have to get angry. Can you stay away from her long enough? At least until the fool moon."
Scott felt defeated with his answer, "If that's what it takes-"
"Yeah well if not," Derek glanced back in the direction of where Lucy had come from. He had a plan brewing. "I'm going to have to try something else."
Once the teenager joined his older sister in her car, Lucy was quick with the questions about what had just happened.
"What is going on with that Derek guy and you?"
Scott dreaded the idea of having to explain anything to Lucy. He had kept his werewolf identity a secret for far too long, and now he would have to add another person to the list. He couldn't hide his frustrated sighs. To make matters worse, he could tell that Derek was looking at his sister with inappropriate desire, something he was not accustomed to dealing with. Despite Derek's insistence, Scott couldn't shake off the anger he felt whenever he thought about the wolf and his older sister together.
"Don't ignore me, Scott." Lucy spoke again, now staring at the side of his face while he stared off into space. "The other day I asked him to go get lunch with me, I didn't even mean it but like I was just trying to see if I could do that- you know? Like have the courage to do it….. But I don't know."
That was what brought Scott out of his trance. He tried not to be too intense as he faced her directly, grabbing at her arm gently. "Lucy, stay away from him- do you understand?"
The gravity of his words caught the girl off guard, causing her to feel disoriented and overwhelmed with thoughts and memories. She didn't want to push the topic any further at that moment.
Scott noticed her discomfort quickly and racked his brain for what he did that brought her into such a vulnerable state. He was definitely mad at himself every time he was the one that made his sister remember anything to do with her asshole ex.
"I'm sorry," he rushed out, "for whatever I said."
"No, it's fine. I'll stay away from him."
Even with the many, many problems and promises Scott had to keep up with, the one thing he absolutely could not keep up with was staying away from his girlfriend. Responsibilites aside, Scott at least knew when it was time to leave her house to get away from the dangers that were her family.
While on the sidewalk outside of the girls house, he pulled his keys out and began to fumble with them so he could unlock the car door. As he stood there, a tingle ran down his spine and he stopped in his tracks.
From the corner of his eye, a looming shadow caught his attention in the thick tree line. He froze, heart pounding, as he strained to catch a glimpse of the mysterious creature stalking him. Suddenly, a rustling of leaves and a quick movement sent shivers down his spine. He could feel the weight of the creature's gaze on him, daring him to make a move. The forest grew eerily silent as tension hung heavily in the air, broken only by the sound of his own racing heartbeat
In the darkness, Scott's eyes strain to focus on a looming, indistinct shape. As they come face to face, he sees two red, fiery orbs staring back at him.
A jolt of fear shoots through his body and he takes off running for the safety of his car. The sound of heavy footsteps pounds relentlessly behind him, getting closer and closer with each passing moment. But Scott refuses to give up and pushes himself harder, finally reaching the car and slamming the door shut with lightning speed.
He can still hear the menacing presence outside, its weight and strength evident in every thud against the car. With shaking hands, he frantically locks all the doors, hoping that will be enough to keep him safe from whatever lurks in the darkness
With shaking hands, Scott fumbles to insert the key into the ignition. His heart hammers against his chest as he glances up and catches sight of the massive beast prowling in front of the car. Fear paralyzes him as the creature approaches his side of the vehicle, peering in through the windows with hot, heavy breath that causes the glass to fog with each exhale.
"What do you want from me?" he cried out, still stuck with his hand on the keys.
Slowly but steadily, the alpha brought a hand up to the condensation filled window and used his claw to paint a picture for Scott. A spiral.
Even he knew that was not okay. Whatever symbol the Alpha had left on his car window- the spiral- Scott didn't know what the hell that meant whatsoever and he knew right away he was going to have to tell Derek. Just when he thought he had that under control.
Thinking of Derek brought his sister to his head. That was another thing he had to worry about. As he walked upstairs into his house, he hesitated at her door and contemplated knocking.
The thought of leaving her alone for the night or just checking to see if she was okay circled in his head for only a second before he tapped on the door three quick raps. He waited a second. Nothing. Did he notice her car in the front?
Not knowing if she was home created some panic within his stomach and he hurried into his room and jogged to the window, pushing the shade open with some heavy breaths. Her car was there. But did that mean she was safe? He had just seen a very angry looking alpha and now Lucy wasn't home. Shit.
He had to check her room. He spun on the heels of his feet and shouted at the sight of Derek standing in his room.
"You seriously need to stop doing that!" Scott followed up his frightened scream with some panicked speaking. He ran his hand through his hair and tried to steady his breathing as Derek stood there menacingly.
"What happened to you?" Derek said smugly, completely ignoring how he might've creeped out Scott.
"Where is my sister? I told you to stay away from here."
"She's in the shower, dumbass."
Scott's eyes grew until they were almost popping out of his head. "How do you know that?"
"Listen!" They both shut up as Scott focused on the background sounds in his house and heard the steady flow of the shower from down the hall. He felt relieved instantly, allowing his body to relax and threw himself onto the bed.
"You still need to stay away from her."
"Like you've been staying away from Allison?"
There was silence in the room as Scott allowed himself to be reprimanded. He had had way too crazy of a night to keep arguing with him.
"Just tell me about what happened with the Alpha," Derek changed the subject and looked expectantly at Scott.
"Nothing happened! He was just angry. Really angry." He paused, thinking hard. "And he drew a spiral."
Dismay settled in the bottom of Derek's stomach as gears began to turn in his mind. There was so much he had to understand and he wished he had enough time to be dealing with Scott. Without another word, Derek turned to swing open the door but stopped at Scott calling him out.
"You know what it means. You have this look like you know what it means."
"It's nothing." He grunted out in response.
"Whoa, wait a second. You can't do that. You can't ask me to trust you and then just keep things to yourself."
Derek shot him an irritated look as he tried to dimiss the teenager again, "It doesn't mean anything."
"You buried your sister under a spiral. What does it mean?"
With a sigh, Derek started to leave the room again. "Worry about your own sister- she's getting out of the shower now. And besides, you don't wanna know."
The dawn was breaking over the McCall household, casting a soft, golden hue through the gaps in the blinds and painting a tranquil picture of serenity. It was a deceptive calmness that belied the flurry of activity within. The siblings, in an intricate dance of silence and haste, tiptoed around the house, their movements as synchronized as if choreographed. The scent of brewing coffee permeated the air, mingling with the sharp tang of freshly ironed uniforms, as they readied themselves for another day at Beacon Hills High. Yet, amidst this morning routine, there was an undercurrent of quiet consideration - a collective effort to not disturb their slumbering mother. Their silent communication spoke volumes about their bond, as well as their shared responsibility. As they navigated their morning tasks, each glance and gesture hinted at something more than just another school day looming ahead - a subtle intrigue that made this particular morning different from all others.
Scott was in his head about- well everything. Lucy on the other hand was actually excited about going to work and settling into her job. She made her and her brother breakfast and brewed a pot of coffee for the both of them.
Scott couldn't contain his joy at having his sister step into this nurturing role; it was an enormous was full, energized, and had a ride to school for once.
They drove in a peaceful silence. Scott was actually okay with being early to school since Lucy had to get there early to be shown around her office. He was proud of her and overall the feeling of having a steady morning routine with his sister definitely felt nostalgic.
Simliar to her brother, Lucy had a very calm energy about her that morning. She drove with one hand and sipped on her coffee while going at a relatively slow speed. Once they arrived at the high school, she parked in a spot reserved for staff and tried hard not to be smug as she walked in the opposite direction of her brother as he joined the other students getting off their buses.
The other sibling went to meet her boss, the school Principal. He greeted her with all smiles, "Ah! Nurse McCall. Right on time."
With her own smile, she replied, "Good morning. How are you?"
"Great! In a little bit of a rush, though. Let me show you to your office."
The nurse followed him suit just down the hall into an office labeled, 'Nurse's Office.' She felt butterflies deep in her stomach as he opened the door and handed her the key over to her afterwards. Once she was inside she took in her surroundings with a smile.
In the far corner of the room sat a sturdy desk and two chairs, their wooden frames worn from years of use. A state-of-the-art computer and school phone rested upon the desk's surface, surrounded by stacks of papers and colorful pens. Behind the desk stood several cabinets, their doors slightly ajar to reveal shelves filled with books, binders, and supplies. On one side, a sleek ice machine hummed quietly, offering a refreshing respite from the stuffy air. The rest of the room was bare and sterile, begging for someone like Lucy to inject some color and personality into its dull walls.
"So, here is your main office. And here we have a private exam room. We're sending out some forms asking for permissions for you to give physicals, vaccines and administer medications. We've made it clear you are a RN and that we are partnering and trying to relieve some of the stress at the town's hospital." He explained as he walked into the adjoining room that was also pretty drab- only filled with an exam bed, a scale, a sink, cabinets, and bright lights.
Lucy was quite pleased with the idea of being her own little doctor and nurse combo in the school. She broke away from behind the principal to peer in her cabinets and counters. There was sterilized and packaged equipment in there for her already that made her smile.
"Then of course there is the bathroom here and this smaller extra room behind the curtain just has beds for the kids. Your login is on the sticky note on your desk, and some virtual training nodes for today. I assume this day will be pretty slow for you but do you have any questions?"
It was hard for her to stop looking around her new work space, taking it all in and letting this new feeling soak in. It was more than exciting at this stage in her life.
"No," she stuttered out, turning to face her boss with a smile. "I'll be fine, I would just like to get settled and comfortable."
They shook hands as a goodbye and Lucy was left in her new space. She didn't even move as she stood silent in the bare room, taking in its air and energy. Slowly, her tear ducts began to fill and sting her eyes, heat rising in her face and body.
The tears started sparse but they quickly grew to a steady stream that she simply could not hold back. There was a large sense of relief flowing through her body. It had been a long time since Lucy had been able to feel right in her own space and barely in her own mind- but at least here now she was feeling an overwhelming sense of peace.
About an hour and a half later, that same peace was interrupted by two sets of hands knocking on the nurse's office door, interrupting Lucy from the boring training modules she was halfway through.
The door was locked and the lights were dim, but the kids outside didn't take the hint, so the nurse got up and unlocked the door, pulling it back slowly to reveal her younger brother and his best friend standing there.
"Nurse Lucy!" Stiles shouted, shuffling past the girl with Scott in tow. There was always something suspicious about Stiles, Lucy thought as he watched him sit in the chair outside her desk with a little too much enthusiasm.
"Congratulations," Stiles continued, "I like the office, really like what you have done with this place!"
Scott looked around the plain office and sucked his teeth at Stiles' sarcasm. Lucy looked between the two boys and raised a brow at her baby brother. She asked, "Don't ya'll have a class or something right now?"
"We just got out of class," Scott answered, "it's lunch time."
"Yeah, besides-" Stiles sat up in his chair and put his hands on the desk in front of him so he could look right up at Lucy. "we just wanted to visit our favorite school nurse!"
"Well thanks for visiting me." There was a smile playing on her lips that looked genuine.
Scott felt so much warmth in his heart from how innocent his sister was at times. He really appreciated how sweet she could be and felt bad that his friend's plan was to deceive her. Before his friend could keep talking he asked, "What are you up too?"
"Well I'm just doing some computer training. I think tomorrow I will start calling certain students down, reviewing records, reorganzing, maybe some decorating." The last part of her answer was for Scott specifically, "Just trying to make the best of it."
There was a moment of silence, Stiles being the odd one out of the sibling moment and understanding. He barely noticed nonetheless, and got right back to trying to finesse Lucy out of a heart monitor for his plans with Scott.
"Okay, there is a reason why I came down here seriously." At Stiles words, Lucy hummed out in response and turned her attention back to the boy.
He continued, "As you know, Scott is co-captain and rising star of the lacrosse team and as much as I am happy for my best friend…. I have to catch up, right?"
"Mhmmm."
"So he's going to train me and help me get on that lacrosse star level! But- we need your help."
"My help?" How can I possibly help?"
"Well now that you're here- I mean let me just get to the point! In order to make sure Scott doesn't kill me-" Stiles smirked a bit at the inside joke and even at Scott's uncomfort- "You would let us borrow a heart monitor."
"Huh?"
"Like to make sure he doesn't pass out on the field. He's got a lot of getting in shape to do!" Scott quickly interjected.
Lucy felt the weird energy between the two, and as she stared at their oddly deceiving smiles there was many thoughts going through her head. She didn't see what could be so suspicious to need a heart monitor and at the same time she didn't want to get in trouble for giving equipment to her brother.
The trio stared at each other, the two boys giving these puppy dog eyes that were definitely convincing the older girl. She sighed and walked to the back room where she looked for a heart monitor device that the boys could take.
When she walked back in the room, Stiles hopped out of his chair and held out his hand with this smug smile on his face.
"Wait.. You're sure this is for purely sports related heart monitoring and not anything weird?"
"Yes!" Stiles was a little too eager for Lucy's liking but he had already decided in her heart that she was going to aide them in whatever bullshit they had going at the moment. Instead of putting it into Stiles' hand, she moved past him and gently put it her younger brothers hands.
"I need it back at the end of the day- seriously."
"I know- thank you!" Scott stood up and hugged her gently, which Lucy returned promptly. Stiles watched them and decided to join in- making Lucy laugh and snuggle into him just a bit. She would be lying to herself if she didnt admit that they made her feel safe.
After the boys left, Lucy sat back down at her desk and logged into the very boring training modules the school provided for her.
In all honesty, she never imagined school nursing to be such a challenging role. But then again, her life consisted mostly of social events in LA and her degree seemed to go to waste. What did she truly understand about the job?
As the minutes ticked by, the nurse's anxiety skyrocketed. She couldn't resist the urge to check her phone, even though she knew it was a bad idea. Her thumb hovered over the screen before finally tapping on her messages. The unknown numbers stared back at her, a menacing reminder of the threats and scares that had flooded her inbox - over a hundred of them now.
She dropped the phone like it was on fire, her heart pounding so fast it drowned out all other noise. Trembling, Lucy pushed herself out of her chair and ran a hand through her hair, trying to calm down. She couldn't bring herself to pull her brother out of class or disturb her mom at work - but what else could she do to protect them?
"It's fine," she said aloud to herself. The girl checked the time on her computer and pictured getting lunch and the comfort of some good food calming her down. Now that she had the access and ability to eat whatever she wanted, that was always her first choice when she wanted to calm down.
Lucy locked her office door and walked confidently through the familiar halls, heading towards the exit. She couldn't help but notice the numerous students roaming the halls this time, their curious gazes lingering on her. It made her feel uneasy. After all, they didn't know she was the school nurse and not one of their peers.
Down the hall some, Allison sat on the floor with Jackson right next to her. He was speaking at her, and she didn't understand his motive at that moment- but she knew there definitely was one.
"You totally hate me, don't you?" He had just finished asking her, a smirk dancing at his lips as he stared at her with sincere eyes.
Allison fingered the pages of her book and looked around the hall, contemplating her answer. In the corner of her eye, she saw someone she had never seen before. Allison thought she might be the prettiest girl she's even seen; she was pretty small and thin with curves to kill for. She had to be a senior, because she looked older than most but still had a pretty young face- doe eyes, an upturned nose, high cheekbones, and plump lips to match.
"Who is that?" Allison changed the subject, tapping Jackson and nodding toward the woman as she got closer.
Jackson's jaw just about dropped when he laid eyes on her. But he knew she was, unlike Allison. "I think that's McCalls' sister. She's like a celebrity on facebook. I didn't know she still lived out here."
"She's beautiful," Allison said, still shocked that a girl like that could be related to Scott. She turned up her face in annoyance at the thought. How could she not know that about her own boyfriend? Could that be why he was acting so weird?
"Definitely."
Allison picked herself up and approached Scott's sister and stood right in front of her with a thin smile on her lips. There was visible shock in the girl's eyes but Allisson ignored it and stuck out her hand.
"Hi, you're Scott's sister, right? I'm Allison."
Lucy raised a brow at the girl standing over her. She was a pretty girl and clearly a student at the school but she had no idea who Allison was and how she knew Lucy was Scott's sister.
"Yeah," Lucy faked the funk easily though, "Yeah I am! Nurse or Miss. McCall if you want."
"Oh, you're the nurse here?"
Lucy shuffled her feet- she didn't think this was going to turn into a real conversation. "Yes, it's my first day. I'll be calling students in my office to meet over the week."
Allison didn't know what to say, she genuinely felt hurt that Lucy didn't recognize her name. Even by the rushed attitude that the nurse was giving her. The feelling was cemented when Lucy walked around her and said, "I have to go- nice to meet you."
Allison sighed at the dismissal and turned to Jackson with an upturned mouth. He was trying hard not to giggle at the way Allison was feeling. Looks like Lucy McCall was helping without even knowing it.
Instead of spending money on getting herself a lunch, Lucy changed her whole mind on what she wanted to do to provide herself some comfort and ended her time at work to go grocery shopping. She was home alone since her family members were at work and was able to play her music loud and proud while she worked on making them both a grand dinner.
One of things Lucy loved to make was anything her abuela taught her all those times that her mom would be at work late. Being here made her so happy to be making Mexican food again. For dinner she packed her mom and brother buttery cilantro lime rice with chicken lasagna rollups.
Scott was at work at the Vet's office in town and her mother was of course busy in the hospital. Once food was done and packed, before she even ate, Lucy was driving to her brothers to surprise him with dinner.
Lucy pulled her car to a halt, gazing up at the moon's soft glow peeking through the thick clouds. The town of Beacon Hills always had a certain beauty at night; the streets were quiet and still, while the stars danced above. As she scanned the parking lot for any signs of Scott, she couldn't help but notice that the windows of his office were dark and shut. His signature motorcycle was nowhere in sight. However, her attention was drawn to an ominous black Camaro parked haphazardly in the nearby alley. Its windows were tinted down, making it impossible to see who or what might be inside. A chill ran down Lucy's spine as she couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right about this scene.
That Derek character was becoming more and more prominent in her day to day schedule. The scene from the last time she saw it flashed in her head- remembering him being scary and aggressive towards Scott. That idea encouraged Lucy to get out her car, food in hand and rushed to the front door of the building.
She tugged on the door but it opened with ease even though all the lights were off. The office was cold, dimly lit, and extremely quiet- sending a chill up the girls spine.
"Hello?" Lucy called out meekly as she rounded a corner. Her heart dropped as she walked right into Derek who was coming at her in a menacing way. The collision made her shout, and fall to the ground, clutching the food in her hands to her chest.
Derek had heard her pull up and enter the room, but he had to stop her from coming to the back and seeing what he was up to with the Vet who ran the office- for her own safety.
"Get up, come on, you need to go!" Derek ordered, grabbing at her arms to pick her up from the floor. At the contact he felt how bad she was shaking right away. Her timidness was distracting to him everytime he ran into her. She was shy, scary, and always jumpy.
"Where's Scott?" Even though the girl was stuttering and could barely get her words out, she was still concerned only about her brother.
Derek ignored her and kept pulling gently on her arm to get her out of the office. There was silence between the two as she complied and followed suit out of the building behind him.
Just as they got outside, Scott pulled up on his bike and jumped off of it before it even stopped at the sight of Derek holding onto his sister. The rage swirling inside of his head and stomach was enough to have him growling at Derek.
"What are you doing to her?!"
"Get her out of here!" Lucy pulled away from Derek as he boomed out orders at her and her brother.
"What the hell is your problem? I told you not to come near my sister!" Scott was barely able to control his anger at that point, claws starting to grow out of his fingernails- unbeknownst to him.
The anger inside Derek was undeniable, though he did feel a twinge of guilt for having to involve her. He knew that if all else failed, enlisting his older sister would surely provoke Scott's rage.
"You need to calm down,"
Derek attempted to soothe him, worried about him transforming in front of Lucy. However, it appeared that his efforts were futile.
"Scott?" she called out in a small voice. His anger was obvious and radiating off of him at that point.
"Lucy, leave," he growled. His fangs were starting to peek out as well. "Go."
It was almost a play by play of what happened just earlier and Lucy did not like it one bit. With a bit of courage she spoke out, "You need to tell me what is going on."
The soothing and soft tone of hers began to calm her little brother down. The way he started to gain control of his anger definitely left an impression on Derek. He was shocked at the way Scott was able to bring himself back from the wolf so easily.
But it didn't seem to matter regardless, Lucy was standing her ground at the nonsense that was happening involving her brother and Derek Hale.
Scott wracked his brain, desperately trying to come up with a reason for Lucy to leave. But he couldn't even explain why Derek was there or why the wolf had been touching his sister.
"I dont know what's going on, Lucy, I just got here. Can I talk to him?" Scott pleaded, now in a softer and almost similar tone to the voice of his older sis.
There was a way that only the two siblings could convince each other, and it was working on Lucy once again. She rolled her eyes and actually had some anger in her in her response.
"Fine!" She shoved the container of food in her hand at Derek and snarkily said to Scott, "well he can give you that dinner if you'd rather talk to him then even give me any kind of explanation of what's going on."
The wafting aroma of the food now in his hands finally hit Derek and his mouth almost dropped. He hadn't noticed how good the container had smelled over the focus he had on everything else going on.
Lucy clicked her car unlocked and got in without another word. Seeing her be defiant finally instead of the usual gentleness made Derek feel warm inside. Maybe it was the food he suddenly was craving- but he might just like Lucy McCall.
