The episode begins with the teams continuing the race from Iceland's Chill Zone in the order they are placed in.
"This oughta be good," Crimson said.
"Not for us," Brody said. "We were almost dead last in the previous leg."
"Something about sharks is just nothing to be cool around," Geoff said.
That meant the ice dancers were leaving first.
Josee: Take a bus to the geyser field and locate the Don Box.
"Looks like it's off to visit the geysers," Carrie said.
"I love geysers," Dwayne Junior said.
"Yellowstone National Park has some of the coolest," Ellody said.
Don: The geysers of gasses gill are part of an active volcano field tucked under a skimpy 20 centimeter layer of siliceous sinter, whatever that is.
"Last time Owen, Geoff and I met a volcano, Ezekiel fell in," Noah said. "Haven't seen the poor guy since."
"Must be rough," Ellody said.
"No kidding," Geoff said.
"And everyone thought Heather would be reformed at the time," Owen said. "She had her lemon filled days."
"Trust me, buddy," Noah said. "We've all had one of those days."
*Interview break* Josee: coming in first has given us a taste for gold. We hope to be at the top of the podium from here on.
Jacques: And I love that taste of gold in the morning.
"Not everything is about winning gold," Laurie said.
"Kitty and I barely made it to bronze, and still enjoyed the race," Emma said.
"Told ya you'd have fun," Kitty said.
The ice dancers arrive at the bus stop, followed by 5 more teams not even 5 seconds later.
"Ain't that quite a surprise?" Jen asked.
Everyone laughed.
Jacques: Don't even think about getting on the bus before us.
Macarthur: You can't stop me from thinking about it.
"Those two are starting to bug Macarthur a bit more now," Sanders said.
"It's only a matter of time before all of us get bugged by them," Macarthur said.
"She has a point," Dwayne Senior said.
The bus then shows up for everyone to board.
Don: Our first teams began to head off as another gets psyched up, but for some, the fear and panic is clearly visible.
"It didn't look that way from our perspective," Ennui said.
"No, it didn't," Erin said.
That clearly got Don grumpy, but felt better when another team: The Adversity Twins, is able to show the fear.
"Because of a spider?" Carrie asked before laughing.
"Don't laugh," Owen said. "I feel bad for those two."
"So do I," Miles said. "I wish there was a way to help them get over their adversity."
"Maybe one day, we'll come up with a cure for that," Mary said.
*Interview break* Mickey: I'm only mildly afraid of spiders. You should see me around a werewolf. *End interview break*
"Definitely not a good sign," Geoff said.
"No kidding," Stephanie said.
More teams go for the tip.
*Interview break*
Laurie: I'm super optimistic about our chances right now.
Miles: I know. We're proving you can race without hurting anyone or anything.
*End interview break*
"That sadly isn't gonna last," Miles said.
"Yeah," Laurie said. "We'd share why, but spoilers."
"Thank you," Macarthur praised. "Don't you just hate it when people spoil a show or movie?"
Everyone nodded in agreement. The first six teams have found the Don box.
Sanders: It's an all in. Broken Icelandic telephone?
"What the fuck does that have to do with going all in?" Macarthur asked.
"Looks like we're about to find out," Dwayne Junior answered.
Don: For this all in, teams need to hold down the speaker button on this box to hear me say, "Please Give Me My Next Travel Tip," in Icelandic with perfect pronunciation.
The speaker box says exactly that in Icelandic.
"Ooh!" everyone said before clapping it up.
"That was perfect," Dwayne Junior said.
"We should learn more foreign languages," Mary said.
Don: Then, they must run across the geothermal field of hot springs and repeat the sentence to this Icelandic local.
"She's cute," Kitty said.
"Yeah," Sanders said. "Wait a second. What is she wearing?"
Everyone, including Don, wanted to know the same thing.
Don: Say the sentence right, and you get your next tip.
"Some of us should've studied Iceland a bit more," Emma said.
"Says the one who was too caught up on studying to be a lawyer," Ryan said.
"Shady," Emma commented.
The cadets arrive first.
Macarthur: Here it comes.
Speaker box: Vinsamlegast gefðu mér næstu ferðaábendingu.
"Got it," Sanders said.
The Dwayne Duo then arrives.
*Interview break* Dwayne Senior: My mind is a steel trap. Once I know something, it's…
Dwayne Junior: Really? When's my birthday?
Dwayne Senior: Summertime?
Dwayne Junior: October.
*End interview break*
"Steel trap, eh?" Mary asked.
"Says the pair who couldn't build a little sand castle in time," Dwayne Senior said.
"Burn!" Geoff and Brody said together before laughing.
Don: Six more teams are heading for the geyser field, leaving three that have yet to begin the race.
The first two teams make it through with ease. Dwayne Senior thinks it's all about timing when the geyser stops perfectly. That didn't go so well.
"Now who's talking about anti-smart ideas?" Ellody asked.
"Okay," Dwayne Senior said. "I'll give you that one."
Noah and Owen are seen listening to the instructions. Owen then talks back, asking for Chinese food, but is stopped by Noah, who pulls him along.
"Not the best time for conversations with speaker boxes," Sanders said.
As the second bus arrives, the last three teams finally depart.
*Interview break* Geoff: Starting in last place is tough, especially because Brody's so messed up. Guy got a few too many shocks from that speed boat. *Sees Brody still in electric pain* But I can do all the heavy lifting. It's too early to give up and go home. Surfers don't quit.
"Thanks for the uplifting attitude," Brody said. "Really needed it."
The ice dancers arrive first and say the sentence right without a single slip up.
"Incredible," Erin said.
"Our work today is cut out for some of us," Carrie said.
Josee: Take a helicopter to Vettel National Park and find the next tip.
Unfortunately for the ice dancers, they have to wait for 5 more teams before the helicopter can leave.
"Ha!" Macarthur said. "One can't always get what it wants."
The cold weather gives Devin flashbacks of his girlfriend.
Carrie: He got frostbite and nearly lost three toes over a tea? He deserves better than that. A rabid goat deserves better than that.
"One can see why," Kitty said. "And yet those two made up."
"Yeah," Carrie sighed. "At least I have something better."
She then wrapped Kitty in a comforting hug, unleashing awes out of everyone else. Meanwhile, Owen gets stuck in one of the geysers, but gets free when water comes shooting out, only to be stuck again.
"How is that possible?" Mary asked.
"I wish I knew," Erin said.
The Dwayne Duo then arrive at the lady's position. Dwayne Senior attempts to say the sentence, but messes up. This frustrates Dwayne Junior.
Dwayne Senior: Your language is pretty ridiculous. *During an interview break* I can't be expected to memorize something I only heard once.
Dwayne Junior: WHAT? You have got to be kidding me!
"Now you admit it's hard," Stephanie said.
However, not so hard for the vegans.
*Interview break* Laurie: I had to get it right. I didn't want to be culturally insensitive.
Miles: Yeah. That's how wars start. Laurie: And war is bad.
*End interview break*
"Ain't that the truth," Dwayne Senior said. "Some out there still have nightmares about World War 2."
"Don't forget the September 11th attacks," Brody said. "That was just messed up."
The police cadets and fashion bloggers are then seen trying to dodge the water.
*Interview break* Jen: Geysers are hot water. This top is cold wash only. No one told me there would be real danger.
*End interview break*
"That's how some shows occasionally are," Dwayne Senior said.
The rockers, goths and Dwayne Duo are then seen dodging geysers, but for the adversity twins, they seem okay with it.
*Interview break* Jay: Saltwater helps Mickey's eczema. Sometimes, it gets so bad, his knees look like armadillos.
The interview break ends with a cut to an armadillo blowing a raspberry.
"Okay," Kitty giggled. "I see what they did there."
"Me too," Carrie said.
Taylor then sees the goths arrive. Her mom, Kelly, messed up and went back by herself. However, Crimson easily gets it right, allowing her and Ennui to continue.
"Glorious," Dwayne Senior said.
"Thanks," Crimson said.
"That was amazing," Kitty said.
Crimson: Most of our favorite bands are from Iceland, so yeah. We speak the language.
"Looks like your bands helped you practice real good," Dwayne Senior said.
"You guys can learn a thing or two from one another," Erin said.
While the best friends and Dwayne Duo get the phrase from the box, the stepbrothers get heated again until the Icelandic local broke up the fight.
"Woah!" Kitty said. "Where'd she learn to do that?"
"Do they teach karate in Iceland?" Noah asked.
"I remember taking a few karate classes," Emma said.
"You rocked those classes," Kitty said.
*Interview break* Chet: That girl is so into me.
Lorenzo: She's into me, jerk-y.
The interview break ends with them starting another fight.
"There must be something those two have in common," Stephanie said.
"Those two are like Drake and Josh, only animated," Noah said.
"I keep forgetting he occasionally has a sarcastic attitude," Emma said.
The bloggers arrive.
Jen: Is that an original patroki? Fierce. Doesn't hurt that you have the body to pull it off like seriously.
The local gives Jen and Tom the tip to their delight and the surprise of everyone else.
"How's that possible?" Macarthur asked.
"You never even needed to say that phrase," Brody added.
"This race is full of surprises," Jen said.
"One can tell," Dwayne Junior said.
While the helicopter waits for 2 more teams, more teams struggle to get the required phrase right.
"Tough language to speak," Owen said.
Luckily for the cadets, they get it right. The daters then arrive.
Ryan: I memorized the first half, and Steph took the rest.
Stephanie: We share everything, except French fries.
"I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that," Dwayne Junior said.
The daters' first attempt goes wrong, and Stephanie lets out a little outburst during an interview break.
"And they say I have a bad temper," Macarthur said.
"Wow," Stephanie said. "I had no idea."
Emma is then seen struggling to get the phrase right, though Kitty helps finish it to receive the tip.
Emma: You interrupted me and almost ruined our chances.
Kitty: But I got it right.
Emma: Next time you try to help, don't help.
"Really?" Geoff asked. "Kitty saved you from falling into hot water."
"And you try to scold her for it?" Stephanie asked.
"You almost got it wrong," Kitty said. "That could've made us fall further behind."
"Woah," Emma said. "I almost missed that part. Sorry for not noticing, and thanks for saving my skin."
"No problem," Kitty said. "Sisters do look out for each other."
Don: The first six teams are aloft, while the remaining nine teams are just trying to stay alive.
As the teams try to stay alive, Don then sends the show to a commercial break.
"Who knew some foreign languages would be difficult to remember?" Noah asked.
"Meanwhile, I still can't believe how you and Tom go through," Sanders said to Jen.
"Surprises all around," Jen said.
"At the same time," Brody said. "I'm still emotionally beaten after taken one shock too many."
"Yeah," Kitty said. "How long is that gonna last?"
"Hopefully, not too long from here on out," Geoff answered.
Stay tuned for part 2 of the episode.
