Chapter 8

Lunch time soon rolled around at the high school. Daniel led Sam through the line. They emerged in the cafeteria each with a tray of food. They scanned the area for a place to sit and eat. There sat Janet all alone at a round table. They made their way to the table and greeted her much like any other day.

"Janet." Sam stated as she sat down.

Daniel took his seat as well. He noticed she was reading. "What are you reading, Janet?" he asked.

Young Janet Frasier looked up from her book. She paused unsure what to say to the two new classmates. "Why are you sitting with me?" she wondered.

Sam replied. "Because you are my friend. What are you reading?" she asked wondering.

"Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys." she told her holding the book up.

Sam looked at the cover of the book. "Wow, you had that collection since high school." She noted the book collection she would give Cassie to read in the future.

"I just got it." she replied a bit baffled.

"Well…it is high school." Daniel stated. "So, why are you in Mr. Hinckley's class?"

"I have dyslexia. I see words backwards and upside down. He's helping me with it." she told him. "You really put Tony in his place today."

"Just some smart mouth kid." Daniel shrugged it off. He began to eat the food. "You know, this food is actually not half bad for school food."

Janet stated. "The pizza is awesome. And they make this chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes that is really good. But don't eat the baked chicken. That's too greasy." she advised.

Sam asked. "You mean shredded chicken mixed with gravy that is poured over a scoop of mashed potatoes?"

"Exactly." she nodded.

A slight smile crept across her face. "I wondered where you got that from. Cassie loves it." She looked at Daniel. "You know the biscuits and gravy?"

He nodded. "I know." He then figured out that one of Janet's most beloved family meals was in fact something she got from a school cafeteria. "Jack loves it." he mentioned.

Janet had no idea what nor who they were talking about. She asked. "Where are you two from?"

Daniel stated. "I'm originally from New York."

Sam stated. "I'm from all over. My dad is military and we travel a lot."

"Military?" she asked. "The recruiter is coming into the school. I often thought about joining the military."

Sam asked, "Don't you want to become a doctor?"

She cocked her head. "How did you know that?"

"Just a guess." she smiled amused.

Daniel asked, "How long have you been in Mr. Hinckley's class?"

"Since last year." she told them.

Sam asked "What do you think about that guy flying around in the red suit? It's all over the newspapers."

"That's Mr. Hinckley." she told her.

Sam and Daniel traded glanced. Sam asked. "He told you that?"

"Oh' no." she countered. "I figured it out. Last year we were on a field trip and Mr. Hinckley was driving the bus. The bus broke down in the desert at night. He went to get help. We saw lights in the sky. Lots of lights. And when Mr. Hinckley came back to the bus he had a case with him. He wouldn't tell us what was in it. Then the man in the red suit showed up." She then added, "I think aliens gave him the suit and he's fighting crime with it with that F.B.I. agent he hangs out with."

"Huh." Sam pondered why Janet never said anything about Mr. Hinckley before.

Tony walked over to the table. He looked at Daniel. "Hey Daniel."

He looked back at Tony. "What?"

"Don't cramp my style man." he stated. "Why are you hanging out with the class nerd?" he asked for Daniel seemed to be one of the cool kids to him.

He watched as Janet slunk in her seat. He stood up and looked Tony in the eye. "I would really appreciate it if you stopped calling my friend names and treated her like a person and not your verbal punching bag."

Tony held up his hand. "Easy. Just wondering why."

"Janet is my friend. That's why." he told him.

"Okay." he then walked way not wanting to get in a fight. He feared Daniel would likely win as they were of equal height and weight.

Daniel sat back down after Tony left.

Janet smiled. "You are not afraid of him at all."

"Why would I be afraid of him?" he asked her.

"Tony doesn't get in a lot of fights but he can hold his own when he does." she stated. "Not even the karate kids will cross Tony."

Sam asked. "Who are the karate kids?"

"Johnny and his pals." she replied. "He and this new kid have it in for each other." she spilled the high school drama. "His name is Daniel too. Ali is dating him. She's Johnny's ex girlfriend."

Daniel stated. "You have your ear to the wall, huh."

She stated. "It's kind of weird. I'm alone and have no friends but I know everyone."

Sam assured. "You are not alone and I am always your friend."

"Really?" she asked.

She nodded. "Really."

"Thank you." she told her.

"Anytime." Sam assured her.

Few Hours Later

Sam and Daniel had returned to Knight Industries after school. Sam changed into something more comfortable to wear: a pair of blue battle dress while Daniel found the t-shirt and jeans suited him just fine. They sat at the briefing room table and gave their findings.

Daniel looked at Jack seated at the table. "You are never going to guess who is in Mr. Hinckley's class."

"Who?" Jack asked.

"Janet." he told him. "A very young Janet Frasier."

Teal'c perked up. " is in the classroom."

He countered, "She's not a doctor yet. She's sixteen and has reading problems. I think Mr. Hinckley must have helped her overcome it and he is probably one of the reasons she became a doctor."

Sam added. "She also knows that Mr. Hinckley is a man in the red suit. Apparently, he took the class on a field trip and the bus broke down. He went to get help and the lights in the sky came. He came back with a case and the bus started again. No one fixed the bus." She then wondered. "Now, why did she not tell us about Mr. Hinckley, the suit and lights in the sky. She would have told us that if she remembered."

Daniel suggested. "Not if these aliens wiped out everyone's memory of it."

"That would be amnesia on a global scale." Sam stated. "We are talking about very powerful aliens."

Archangel stated. "Shame we cannot use the mini gate to go to the future, get intel and bring it back."

Sam admitted. "That would be a huge tactical advantage if we could do that."

Daniel asked. "How did training go today?"

Jack stated. "Not bad. We are brining in a doctor."

"Who?" he asked.

"County medical examiner. Some guy named Quincy." he stated.

Marella assured. "Dr. Quincy would make a great base doctor. He has assisted police in many investigations."

Caitlin stated. "The Medical Examiner does assist police."

Michael Knight mentioned. "I remember Dr. Quincy. He helped me out on a few cases when I was a cop."

Caitlin asked, "When were you a cop, Michael?"

"Up until two years ago, Cait." he replied. He looked at Devon and Bonnie. "They really should know."

String came to attention. "Know what?"

Jack stated. "Yeah! Know what?"

Devon disclosed, "Michael was a police officer up until two years ago. He was ambushed working a case. He was shot in the face and left for dead. Wilton Knight stepped in and paid for reconstruction surgery. Due to the nature of the case, Michael was declared dead and given a new identity."

All eyes fell on Michael. He looked directly at Cait. "It's me Cait. Michal Author Long."

She gasped. "Mike! You were killed in the line of duty. I went to your funeral."

"I know that." he confessed. "I still sound the same."

"You don't look anything like your old self." she told him shocked.

"I know." he winced.

Devon further disclosed. "The surgery constructed Michael's face to look like Wilton Knight's distant son, Garthe."

Jack interrupted. "Wait!" hw held up a hand. "Let me get this straight. Michael is an ex cop, who was shot in the face and some rich dude gave him the face of his son?"

Michael slowly nodded. "Not my choice."

"That's messed up." Jack told him.

Sam suggested, "We could always get a hold of the Asgard. Have Thor make a clone of Michael, who would have his original face. Then transfer his consciousness into the new clone and he can look like himself again."

Michael asked, "The Asgard can do that?"

She nodded.

"That's even more messed up, Carter." Jack huffed. "Heck, just get Loki and have him make a bunch of mini clones while we are at it."

"You did the right thing by letting him live." she assured.

"I'm afraid to even ask." String sounded.

"I will." Archangel stated. "What did Loki do?"

Jack huffed. "He stole my ass and made a mini me."

Sam tried very hard to keep a straight face as she disclosed what happened. "Loki of the Asgard took it upon himself to try to fix a cloning issue. He abducted the Colonel from his residence as he slept and slipped in a clone. You see, the Asgard thought they found a key to help them in the Colonel's genetics. But the clone that Loki left to take the Colonel's place did not mature all the way and when the clone woke up he thought he was the colonel and was somehow made into a fifteen year old boy. Thor helped us retrieve the Colonel from Loki and fixed his clone so he would not expire and die."

The table fell silent for a moment.

String finally asked. "You mean there is a teenage version of Jack running around out there in the future?"

"He's living his own life." he shrugged.

Archangel looked about the group. "Anyone have anything else they would like to disclose." He feared what would come next from SG-1.

Michael Knight shook his head. "I thought my story was messed up until I heard that."

Sam stated. "We probably should disclose the ascended and what happened to Daniel."

String asked cockeyed. "What happened to Daniel?"

Michael wondered. "More teenage clones?"

"No," Daniel shook his head. "I was exposed to a lethal dose of radiation. There was nothing Janet could do and the Asgard were too far away. Thor could not get to me in time. The Ascended were the Ancients. There was a plague. Those who survived did so by ascending. That's when you leave your physical body behind and use your mind to ascend to a higher life form. Think angels. A friend on mine, Oma who is one of the Ascended, helped me ascend. I was ascended for a year. Then, I was sent back. I woke up off world, naked and in a field and I had no memory of who I was or what happened during my time as an ascended being."

Dom asked, "You were an angel for a year?"

"I was ascended." he told him. "They can be mistaken for angels. They are not perfect." he warned.

"Jonas filled in for Daniel during that time. And Daniel did contact us as well." Sam added. "Basically…Daniel died, became an angel and then was sent back."

Archangel asked. "Like a fallen angel?"

"More like I was kicked out of their little club because I refused to turn my back on those who needed my help." he explained.

String concluded. "More like an archangel."

"They were not angels." Daniel insisted. "They were once humans who ascended and basically now think of lower life forms as bugs."

Marella asked. "Have you tried hypnosis to try to regain those memories, Daniel?"

"No." he replied.

"I am a licensed therapist. I would be happy to help you with hypnosis." she offered.

"I will take that into consideration." he replied.

Jack stated. "Now that the air is clear. Ready to go get Earnest, campers?"

"Yes sir." Sam agreed.
