The Duty of a King, also known as the Supreme Monarch of his own kingdom, is to care for his own people so that his realm prospers over time, whether future generations take on the new mandate. But leaving the foundations well planted so that the future of humanity prospers.

But for a king to be the undisputed leader of his realm, he must also know how to govern. If there is a figure of power, respect, and wisdom maintaining monetary stability and the morale of his people, so that the kingdom does not fall into enemy hands or, in the worst-case scenario, destroys itself, as has happened with different kingdoms around the world.

However, nowadays, this is hardly likely to happen, given that the one currently ruling the largest kingdom in the world was Gilgamesh, a unique king/queen in his own right, born of the Ancient King Lugalbanda and the goddess Rimat-Ninsun.

Born with the perfect physique by human standards from the very beginning of his childhood, he was both envied and loved by the people of his realm. Rumors said that the purpose of his birth was to serve as the cornerstone between gods and humans, who were gradually fading away.

However, as in history, everything was not always the same, changing with the passage of time without being able to intervene, even with the total power of a god. Because from childhood to his current adult life, Gilgamesh's behavior had changed significantly. Whereas in his early life, he used to have affection and sympathy for others, appreciated by the people who praised him as the best king/queen for having earned the title of the greatest king ever.

He was also known as a tolerant, wise, and just person, demonstrating a real personality of superiority. However, as time passed, his behavior also changed, becoming a total opposite of what he was in his childhood.

Being as he was, he did not possess the immortality of the gods, but neither was he a human being like any other. He did not belong completely to either side, born as a guardian of humanity, in the words of his progenitor. The other gods had planned for him to become a good king, loving unity, and who would unite the Earth, praising and worshiping the gods equally. However, he never submitted to them or their will, considering his own interests better. He ruled the kingdom as an individual.

Taking the time to indulge himself at his own expense, regardless of what others might say about him, he mastered every treasure he collected in his life, with the conviction of treating good and evil equally. When they danced together, he was the same. Gilgamesh's own belief was that the gods had lost their positions by bringing him into existence. He rejected the gods as something that belonged to past eras, becoming a king too arrogant, narcissistic, and hedonistic by nature, who would only enjoy the best and most luxurious pleasures of life. A proof of this was that he only ate the highest quality foods.

But despite his arrogant and narcissistic behavior, he respected and valued his people. In the eyes of the King, his people, along with those who lived within his realm, were worthy of his compassion. He understood the importance of each and every one, mostly recognizing that without them, his dynasty could not prosper. But at some point in his life, he set out to kill those who were expendable. However, although he thought they were just pawns, he believed that no one was superfluous, acknowledging that he needed each and every one of his subjects.

He mentioned that he carried his people in his heart wherever he went. As for gathering the treasures of the world, those were events of the past, and a story for another time, to be told to those whom the king considered worthy of his trust.

Currently, Gilgamesh himself was aware that his people were in a not very stable peace due to what had happened a few days ago when those strange creatures began to attack the west gate of his kingdom. For the time being, whatever those strange creatures were, he would kill them so that they did not disturb his realm. But even though that had already happened, his thoughts were currently elsewhere, due to some sudden events that had occurred not far from his kingdom, in a location he knew very well.

The day before, having been resolving matters for his queen, seated in the throne room, he decided to rest for a few seconds from all the work he had done since morning to ensure his realm's stability for the time being, when things began to calm down and the citizens, along with his soldiers, were calm while he resolved the problem of this strange plague that had spread just about three days ago.

Leaning back on the throne, he rested his head on his forearm to rest it in a comfortable position, so he could better rethink his plans on how to deal with this strange plague that had attacked his realm recently. So, closing his eyes, he began to ponder the best possibilities to prevent the plague from entering his realm again and killing innocent people. Although he wanted to spend some time pondering what to do, his thoughts were interrupted when he felt something pulsating on the back of his head, gradually becoming more noticeable, starting out as nothing more than a slight annoyance that wouldn't interrupt him until that pulsation began to grow larger, to the point where he had to pay attention to know what it was.

He focused all his attention on the back of his head where all the pulsations were happening to see what was bothering him. For a few moments, he found nothing unusual, but for a brief moment, an image appeared in his mind. The image of a strange individual he had never seen in his life or in any place he had traveled to. He couldn't see who it was because the person was facing away, not showing their face.

The only thing visible about the subject here was that he was in a completely destroyed area, standing amidst the wreckage with a mostly white cloak with red edges resembling flames that flickered in the wind. The subject's hair was a blond that seemed bathed in sunlight, not too short for the occasion nor too long, in an intermediate point, being wild hair that the wind tried to bring down but remained firm, looking like a knot tied in his head.

She wanted to approach the subject to see him better and know who he was, to see if he was a threat to her kingdom or someone she had seen in the past but couldn't remember until today. So, stretching out her hand in a mental image, she wanted to touch him to turn him around, but halfway there, she was stopped by two factors.

The first was that in front of her appeared to be the shadow of a being reaching the height of a mountain with a shape she couldn't see well, just a mass of black shadows with nine strange protrusions or tails that stirred from three of them, and slanted red eyes warning her that if she approached, it wouldn't hesitate to attack her.

She might have found it amusing because during her life, she had been in countless battles, so a mass of gigantic shadows threatening her was nothing she couldn't handle with her extensive arsenal of weapons at her disposal. So, prepared to remove the shadow beast in front of her to reach the strange subject, she opened the door of Babylon, from which three of them generated around four golden circles, from which chains that seemed to be bathed in gold began to emerge.

Although that seemed the most normal thing in the world to her, it was there that the second factor came in, which was to say that it was one of the few times in her life that she had been surprised by something. That was when she tried to send the chains to trap the creature made of dark shadow masses; the same chains that had been so loyal to her for years since the death of her equal. This was why it seemed they had turned against her, surrounding her so she had no escape, instead of the black mass of shadows.

The golden chains rattled around her, occasionally clashing with each other, sounding like a rattlesnake, warning against its prey, ready to attack at any moment when she was unprepared.

For a few seconds, she remained silent, contemplating everything around her and what she had gotten herself into: the strange subject a few meters away from her, still facing away; the strange thing, gigantic like a mountain made of that strange mass of shadows; and most surprising of all, her own chains turning against her for the first time. All of this was something she had never contemplated in her life. Although she wanted to think more about all of this, in a blink of an eye, everything disappeared, leaving her alone in an environment of total darkness, illuminated only by a light in the whole area that seemed to be staring at her fixedly.

Strangely, the light began to approach her until it was face to face, where silence reigned between her and that strange light for a minute, during which nothing happened until the light began to shine more, closing her eyes for a few seconds. And when she could see in front of her, she saw the image of someone she believed had died a long time ago in her arms, turning into clay. Although that was a topic she would think about another time, because in front of her was the image of what she considered her first friend and equal, Enkidu, the Divine Beast of the gods.

She wanted to say something or even touch him to see if all of this was not the work of some God she repudiated, but she just stood there, staring fixedly, while he also looked at her, but with a smile before speaking.

Enkidu: It's time to wake up, Gilgamesh.

And with that last and only sentence, everything faded away in front of her, returning her to reality, where she slowly began to open her eyes, realizing that she was still in the throne room where the hours had passed, it was now night, where the stars bathed the sky, and the Moon illuminated much of her kingdom, realizing that she had been asleep for quite some time.

Gilgamesh: Enkidu...

And the end of the chapter.
