Chapter 18: Ivy's Interrogation:
On her way to the militia's cells, Ivy opened the communications channel and ask Batman how can he be so certain that her pheromones would work on most of them.
After all, during the time when she was still his enemy she used her pheromones on him, and it didn't work.
Batman appeared on the channel, still inside the Batmobile. "Ivy, what is it?"
"It's about the interrogation, how can you be certain that my pheromones will work on most of them? They're animals whom care about nothing but death and destruction."
Batman explained his point. "I was listening to all the militia conversations over the city, it's clear that most of them had been military rejects or worse. Aside from the military training from The Arkham Knight, little else from his character rubbed off on them."
"I don't know, I'm still not certain of it."
Batman explained furthermore, "While I was fighting the militia guarding the Arkham Knight's missile launcher, they had said he was only used to fighting the typical street punks we see in Gotham, and that's it. But the reality is the militia is just a pack of armed thugs for hire. The only thing that sets them apart from the ones seen on Gotham is they have military discipline and the loyalty to one another, whereas the Gotham thugs would throw the others under the bus the moment trouble starts. You'll be fine, Ivy, I know it."
"Alright, if you say so." Feeling a lot more confident and reassured thanks to Batman's pep talk, she set off towards the Militia's cells.
But not before doing one more thing.
Ivy walked over to Joana, who was in a group with a few other officers to ask them something. Ivy knew Joana would immediately take her side, but she didn't know about the others.
"Joana, could I please get your help with something, it's really important. Can you and a few other officers be present for my interrogation of the soldiers?"
The kind officer smiled, "Of course, Miss Isley, anything for a friend."
Unfortunately, two of the officers in the group of the four officers that included Joana and a much nice colleague were heavily against their colleague's decision. And they made sure, Ivy knew that
"What the hell Joana, why are you helping her?" The female of the group says.
"Easy Ramirez, she's not who she was before." Joana tries to de-escalate the situation with his female co-worker. Ivy just stood next to him, not saying anything.
"No shes right, why should we trust her?" The second officer added, "She's tried to destroy Gotham so many times over the years. I still wonder why the hell Gordon and Cash are soft on you, Joana, sometimes I wonder what goes on inside that head of yours."
Another cop, Officer Johnson, stepped in, taking Joana's side. "Alright, that's enough, we don't have time for petty arguments, regardless of how we feel about Poison Ivy, she's helping make things easy at the moment, so let's do this one thing and get it over with."
"Whatever, let's go, Gordon's boy." Ramirez purposely glared at Joana, whom wasn't even acknowledging her. Ivy and the cops head off towards the cells containing many of the Arkham Knight and Scarecrow's Militia.
Upon seeing Ivy surrounded by the four cops, the Militia wasted no time in throwing insults her way.
"Check it out boys, looks like Ivy's got her own police escort, she really is scared of us."
"What's the matter Ivy? Can't handle words? Can't fight your own battles?"
Joana began the interrogation process, "Okay listen up, we're not in the mood for your games, so here's how this is gonna go, me and Miss Isley have some questions for you, and your gonna answer them, it's as simple as that, got it."
The Militia soldier looked as if they didn't care. Some were even laughing and mocking Joana's demands, which disgusted Ivy since Joana was the only person, other than Batman or Harley who really cared for her and treated her like a human being.
Ivy couldn't wait to teach this meat sacks a lesson they'd never forget.
Joana asked the first question, "Alright, for starters, where's Crane? I want all of you to tell us where he is, now."
"Even if we knew, we'd never tell your sorry ass, pig!"
"Yeah, screw you copper!"
The Militia were not making things any easier for Ivy and Joana. Ivy's patience for one, was dwindling very quickly. "These kind of people remind me exactly why I was less empathetic before?" Ivy mentally pinched herself regarding her opinion towards the Militia.
She was going to give them a little more time before she had gotten involved with HER interrogation tactics.
"Again I ask of you, where is Crane? What's his current whereabouts, and what else does he have planned for tonight? Tell me, now."
The Militia laughed once again at the Officer's interrogating of them. It was obvious that they were trained to be loyal and not to reveal any of their secrets or Scarecrow's for that matter. Ivy was growing increasingly restless.
Ivy walked away from the cells momentarily.
"Hey Ivy? Where you going?!" One Militia soldier taunted. "You gonna cry because you know these pigs can't help you?! HA! I don't blame you."
Not long after, Ivy came back with a small vine she had gotten from a house plant. The Militia wasted no time in finding insults.
"What the hell are you gonna do? Beat us to death?"
"I used to get beat as a kid, never scared me then, won't scare me, so do your worst."
Ivy merely grinned. "You'll see."
When the soldiers refused to answer the Qs Joanna asked them, Ivy took a small vine from the houseplant and threw it into the cell. Channeling her powers, she mutated the vine.
The vine rapidly grew inside the cell, nearly burying some of the soldiers in the process. They were in complete shock by what was happening. Even Joana and the three other officers he had with them were a little surprised.
"What are you doing?! Let me go!" One soldier yelled out.
"Let me go, or else I'll kill you!"
Once all of the soldiers were tied up in Ivy's vines, Ivy could now get involved in the interrogation process. "Boys, you should've answered my good friend, Officer Joana's questions. He's much more compassionate than I am, I'm going to ask you again, where is Scarecrow? Where is he hiding, we want to know his current location, now."
The Militia, despite being tied up within her vines, still openly mocked her. "You think we're scared of you and your plants? Scarecrow nearly killed you, and he can do it whenever he wants! We know you won't kill us, your to soft for that!"
Ivy's patience was stretching as far as it could go. The Officers could see that she was growing more frustrated by the minute. "Again, I'll ask for the last time, where. is. Scarecrow?"
"Forget it! I'm not spilling anything! You and Batman can both burn in hell for all I care."
That was the last straw for Ivy. The mockery of the Militia infuriated her. Their laughter as they were tied up in her vines was just adding fuel to the fire.
Ivy thought of a way that she was certain would pry out some answers. She got it. She smirked once it firmly became her interrogation method.
Immediately, she began mutating the vines into something the Militia would have never expected.
"What the? Why do I feel so-so-so itchy?"
Some of the soldiers were struggling to scratch themselves, but couldn't due to being wrapped up in Ivy's vine. They were now sweating profusely and straining themselves to try and get free.
The soldiers inside the other cells nearby were completely awestruck.
"What are you doing to them?" Joana asks.
Ivy in turn, explains exactly what she's doing to them. "Poison Ivy. Normally it causes itching and swelling, but just imagine what mutated strains of poison ivy could do to them while at my will."
Joana was amazed at the scientific probabilities here, he almost felt sorry for the soldiers.
Ivy on the other hand felt nothing for them and continued letting them suffer for a little while longer. She'd be lying to herself if she were to say she didn't enjoy this.
"LET US SCRATCH YOU CRAZY BITCH!"
"PLEASE! MAKE IT STOP!"
Ivy ignored there agony and got straight to business. "Your agonizing screams mean nothing to me, now here's how we're going to do this, just tell me what I need to know, answer all of my questions, and this ends, got it?"
The desperate Militia rapidly nodded their heads.
"Good, now what I would like to know first is...where Crane is hiding at? For real this time."
"I-D-DON'T KNOW! HE HARDLY EVER REVEALS HIS LOCATION TO ME!" A plant wrapped around the soldier's throat, and slowly started squeezing. "T-THAT'S ALL I KNOW, I SWEAR!"
Ivy seemed unconvinced, "Do you know what poison could do to a man should it touch his throat? Just imagine what my variant of poison Ivy could do to you? Permanent throat infection...neck cancer...swelling..."
Ivy was only bluffing about doing these things, but there was no need for the Militia to know that. The soldier was terrified combined with the agony from the poison Ivy tainted vines.
"Don't lie to me, because that'd end really badly for you."
The tormented soldier yelled, "NO! I'M NOT LYING! I-I SWEAR! THAT'S ALL I KNOW!"
Ivy could tell he was telling the truth, so she released the vine that had a grip on this man's neck. But, he still was subject to the other vines that had trapped the rest of body.
Ivy looked at the next Soldier. He was still trying to break free and scratch himself, but to no avail. "Now you. Do you no where Scarecrow is? You've already been told what could happen to you if you lie, so don't even bother doing that."
He screamed at the top of his lungs. "I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE CRANE IS, I HARDLY SEE HIM, THE ONLY TIME I NORMALLY HERE FROM HIM IS...IS-OH GOD! IT BURNS!..THE ONLY TIME I HEARD FROM HIM IS WHEN HE GAVE ME ORDERS FOR PATROL PATTERNS! THAT'S IT! THAT's ALL I KNOW, NOW MAKE IT STOPPPP!"
Ivy ignored his pleas and focused her attention to the next tied up soldier. "You, do you know where Scarecrow is?"
"NO! I DON'T! SCARECROW IS A BUSY MAN! THE LAST TIME I HEARD FROM HIM, HE SAID HE WAS PLANNING SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL FOR BATMAN!"
Upon hearing this, a protective instinct in Ivy kicked in and she wasted no time and prying for information regarding this 'special surprise' for Batman. "You wouldn't happen to know what this special surprise is?"
"I don't! BUT HE SAID IT WAS GOING TO END BATMAN'S LIFELONG SUFFERING! THAT'S ALL I KNOW! I SWEARRR!"
It wasn't much, but it was a small amount of progress. Ivy was growing even more frustrated. So far, there was nothing as to where Scarecrow was currently hiding at.
Ivy moved on to the next soldier, who was violently thrashing back and forth due to the agonizing desire to scratch himself. "Do you know anything regarding Scarecrow?"
"NO I DON'T! I HARDLY EVEN TALK TO THE GUY! AS A MATTER OF FACT! I'VE NEVER EVEN MET HIM IN PERSON BEFORE!"
Seeing that this soldier would be useless, Ivy ignored him and proceeded with her interrogation of the other soldiers inside the cell.
Ivy shot them all a glare to let them know that she meant business and she wasn't in the mood to horse around with them.
"WE'VE TOLD YOU EVERYTHING! JUST MAKE IT STOP ALREADY! I ALREADY FEEL A BUNCH OF BRUISES AND BLISTERS FORMING ON ME!"
"OH GOD! I THINK ONE OF THEM POPPED!"
Ivy didn't feel any pity for them. Her stress and frustration with not learning any useful information about Scarecrow was beginning to take over her.
"I think these guys have had enough, Miss Isley," Fortunately for Ivy, Joana was there to help feel more at ease. "They only thing we'll continue to get out of them, is blisters and bruises, they won't provide any useful information."
Ivy looked at the agonized soldiers for about one more minute. Eventually she realized Joana was right and had finally called the vines off of them. Upon the vines dispersing, the soldiers immediately wasted no time in scratching themselves. With the way they were acting, you would've thought they were wild animals.
"Not one single piece of useful information," Ivy facepalmed herself out of irritation and moved onto the other cells containing the various levels and rankings of Militia members.
Upon arriving at the other cells containing the other soldiers, Ivy's mood hadn't improved much since the first interrogation. In fact, these men irked Ivy more than the last bunch of them.
Unfortunately for Ivy, the other militias' cells, now knowing what they know, they weren't intimidated by this anymore, since it was clear Ivy wasn't REALLY going to kill them.
"Hey Ivy, we saw what you did to the others, that won't work on us, I've experienced much worse than blisters and bruises!"
Ivy only rolled her eyes. "Good for you," She sarcastically replies.
"You won't get anything out of us! We're much more prepared than those dirtbags back there!"
Another soldier had even attempted starting a rallying chant, "SCARECROW! SCARECROW! SCARECROW! SCARECROW! SCARECROW!"
Eventually other Militia in the cells joined the chant as well. "SCARECROW! SCARECROW! SCARECROW! SCARECROW! SCARECROW! YEAHH!"
As a result, Ivy blew her pheromones into their cells, causing the soldiers to come under her mind control.
And the result proved Batman was right: all of them quickly fell under her influence, most of whom immediately began the hooting on her like a young model showing off her lingerie.
"She's the most beautiful woman on the planet."
"I want her to marry me."
"She could do anything she wants to me."
"She's drop dead gorgeous."
Ivy ignored their zombified advances and got straight to the point. "Would you all be so kind and tell me anything about where your leader, Scarecrow is currently hiding at?"
One of the mind controlled soldiers spoke up first, "We don't know where he is, Ivyyyyyy, the boss hardly tells us anything regarding his whereabouts."
This time, Ivy was a bit more patient. This was due to fact that the uncontrolled Militia earlier had told her similar things to what their saying to her now.
Ivy moved onto the next Militia soldier for more information. "How about you, darling? Do you have any idea where Scarecrow might be hiding at?"
"I haven't got a clue, Ivyyyy, I would never lie to youuuuu."
The reformed meta-human moved onto some more of the mind controlled Militia. Like all the rest, they two were astonished by her natural beauty, even if it wasn't by their own self control.
"Hello, Ivyyyyyy. What can I do for you on this lovely evening?"
Ivy dismissed the advances. "Well for starters, you can tell me if you know anything about where Scarecrow might be hiding."
"Sorryyyyyyy, I don't know where he's hiding, he keeps that a secret from everybodyyyyyy."
"I see," Ivy replies, disappointed. "Thank you."
"You're welcomeeeee."
Ivy continued to ask for more details from the brainwashed Militia, and so far, none of them had anything that could be useful for her to share to Batman.
"...I would never steer you wrong, Ivyyyyyyy."
Ivy moved on from this zombified soldier and onto yet another soldier. She hoped this time he would have some information for her to share. "Do you know anything about where Scarecrow is currently located at?"
"No Ivyyy, I do not know where Scarecrow is..."
Ivy sighed in disappointment.
"...But Scarecrow was always the one who came to the Arkham Knight's HQ on Founder's Island."
Ivy finally gained interest. Finally something that could prove useful. While it wasn't where Scarecrow exact location was, this was something that could potentially help later.
Before Ivy could assume anything, she had to confirm whether or not this was true. So asked all of the brainwashed Militia to confirm this in unison, "Is this true, boys? Does Scarecrow frequently come to your base on Founder's Island?"
"Yesssssssssss." They all replied in complete obedience.
Now that Ivy had confirmation, there was no nothing she needed to ask of them anymore so she eventually released her pheromone hold on them.
They didn't waste any time with throwing insults her way.
"You brainwashed me?! You tramp, you're gonna pay for this!"
"How dare you do this to us? The more you aid the Bat, it just makes us want you dead even more than before."
"So the plant lady is bought off and now helping the freak, what happens next is on you."
Ivy merely ignored the petty comments coming from the Militia. Ivy herself, however, was disappointed with the results. Not a single militia knew where Crane was.
That fact really stung in Ivy's mind.
Later, Ivy was back inside the main area of the GCPD Building. She was happy that she was finally able to move away from the Militia. She was going to think to herself alone in her original temporary quarters.
"Ivy,"
Upon turning around, she saw Batman walking towards her with another man in his hands, arrested and subdued. His grey hair and heard was poorly groomed, as was the suit jacket he wore. "Batman."
The obviously disturbed man, began to speak to her, "Well I'll be damned, Poison Ivy! Gotham's own personal symbol of ecological rebirth! Here before my eyes, here before god's eyes! Join me child, I can show you the world god wants, the way it's supposed to be, Gotham will burn in enteral damnation and be reborn from its ashes."
Not only was she not interested, but she was disgusted by this man's obviously deranged and twisted views of religion.
Sensing this, Batman shut him up. "That's enough out of you Blackfire," Batman looked at Ivy, "Give me a moment, I'll be with you shortly." He went to go toss the insane cultist leader in the main cell with the others.
Ivy decided to go wait inside the makeshift office she had occupied most of the night. She waited patiently for Batman to return to her.
Eventually, he did return to Ivy. He didn't waste any time in asking her how things went how he was gone, "How did things go while I was gone?"
"Well, Barbara Gordon is slowly starting to come around to me, we worked well together when fending off the Militia from the GCPD."
"Good to know, did the Militia say anything as to where Scarecrow is located?"
Ivy revealed her disappointment to Batman. "Not a single militia knew where Crane was, and only a few of them said that Scarecrow was always the one who came to the Arkham Knight's HQ on Founder's."
"No good, I've already cleared out their base on Founder's Island. Unfortunately he wasn't there. Did they say anything else that might lead to Crane?"
"Sadly no, but one of them did say that Crane was planning something very special just for you. He said it would end your lifelong suffering."
Batman dismissed this, "I've heard that one before,"
Ivy on the other hand wasn't as dismissive, "I don't know, Batman, I'm kind of worried about this. We don't know what sort of concoction that madman has planned for you."
"I'll be fine, Ivy. Right now, what we need to do is focus on finding as much details on Scarecrow that we can get."
Ivy still didn't like this. She had a very bad feeling that she couldn't put out of her mind just like that. She was vastly worried.
"I know Crane almost killed you tonight, but don't worry, I'll stop him. Everything Barbara and you do here helps save more lives by the minute."
"I know bu-"
"I'll be fine." Surprisingly, Batman places both hands on her shoulders. Ivy felt sudden butterflies in her stomach. "I need you to do me a favor. Interrogate Crane's allies that were captured. I have hopes that Crane might have let his tongue slip. Can you do that for me?"
"Of course I'll do it."
And with that, Batman began to head off towards the exit. Ivy on the other hand still couldn't get that lingering thought out of her head.
This time, Joana and the others didn't accompany Ivy this time because they didn't want to be near such crazy people. But Joana for one didn't want to leave Ivy around such crazy people.
"Are you sure you'll be alright, Miss Isley?"
"I promise I'll be fine Joana, go ahead and take a break, I'm not at all worried about these men." Seeing that she was determined, Joana walked away from Ivy.
As expected, Two-Face, Penguin, Deacon Blackfire and the others only threw insults at her upon her arrival. Stagg remained silent, as did the fire chief who was also present.
"Aw, would ya look at that? Batman's bloody daisy." Cobblepot was the first to start the berating of Ivy. "Who would've thought, Poison freaking Ivy, the girl who hates men more than anything, would end up working for The Bat."
"Hello, Oswald." Ivy sarcastically replies.
"I can't say I'm surprised, Pamela, just disappointed." Two-Face adds. "But I can't argue with fate."
Ivy only ignored them. She didn't care for, nor had time for them.
Blackfire spoke up next, "Batman has been living a sinful life child, and I hear that you're rejoicing with him and his sinful deeds. I personally cannot forgive you, but maybe god can child. I'll see if I can put in a good word for you."
"Pygggg can make you perfect, Miss Ivy. Your beauty. Your skin. Can be perrrrfect." Pyg continued. "Pyg makes us better...Pyg make all of us...Better!"
Ivy was a little disturbed by Valentin's reaction to her, but kept her confidence.
Of course, Firefly, the one man she despised besides The Joker and Scarecrow, had to say something to her as well.
"Don't think I forgot about you, Ivy. When I get out of here, I'm dedicating my life to making sure you, Batman and Gotham...WILL BURN!" The psychotic arsonist cackled maniacally.
She decided it was time to show them, she meant business...serious business.
Giving the criminals in there a light smile (which confused them), Ivy threw a few of the vines into the main cell. Channeling her powers, she mutated the vines.
But unlike with the militia, Ivy broke the vines into hundreds of tiny pieces, before mutating them into hundreds arachnid-shaped plants.
"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS THIS?!" Penguin shouted out of fear.
"I'LL MAKE YOU BURN IVY!" Firefly said, trying his absolute hardest to avoid these arachnid plant creatures Ivy created.
"OH MOMMY! I'M SORRY, COULD YOU FORGIVE ME?!" Even in fear, Pyg sounded insane. "NO MORE TORTURE! NO MORE PAIN!"
Even Dent, through his hideously scarred face, was showing visible signs of fear and distress at the sight of these mutated creatures.
Stagg was cowering and whimpering in fear, jumping on the one bench that was in the cell.
The only one Ivy avoided was Chief Underhill, as he didn't deserve such a thing. She made a vine like barrier to keep her arachnid plants from getting to him.
"Against the wall, now."
The criminals all looked at Ivy like they had never before. Was she actually serious.
To show them that she wasn't playing around, she made a few the the plant arachnids each crawl onto their bodies. Naturally on instinct, they all began shaking them off.
"I'll say it again, all of you, against the wall...now." Ivy orders again.
This time, following orders, they all lined up in single file, against the cell's wall. Some of the cops who were nearby were in absolute awe at how easily Ivy was making the criminals obey.
Ivy began the interrogation process once more. "Now, I'm going to ask you all a simple question, and your all going to give me a simple answer or else I unleash hundreds of my little babies upon all of you, let's start, with you." Ivy turned her attention to Simon Stagg, who was utterly terrified. "Where is Scarecrow? You of all people should know, you were working with him, and as a result of your greed, I was almost killed, now talk."
"How should I know?!" Stagg frantically replied. "That maniac is all over the place! One minute he's broadcasting throughout Gotham, the next he's taken over my airships, dispersed his toxins and I'm thrown in jail! My daughter Sapphire won't even return my calls! I don't deserve this treatment! I'M ONE OF THE MOST BRILLIANT MINDS ON THE PLANET! I-"
Ivy gagged Stagg's mouth seeing that he wouldn't be of much help. And most of all, he was really annoying her. Ivy turned her attention to the Penguin, who was quivering in fear.
"What about you, Oswald? Do you know where Scarecrow is?"
"I don't know! He's never in one blasted place, Crane's one tricky bastard, hard to track! Had one of my men try to track him down, but couldn't! That's it, that's all I know, scout's honor!"
"Are you sure?" Ivy made a few of the plant arachnids crawl up Cobblepot.
"I SWEAR! DON'T HURT ME!"
Ivy moved onto Two-Face, who although, had a slight look of worry, maintained his composure much better than his rival Cobblepot.
"What about you, Harvey? Do you know where Scarecrow is?"
"Sorry, Pamela." He said in his usual gravely disturbing voice. "I got no clue where Crane's hiding."
Ivy thought about swarming Dent with her creatures, but thought about it for a moment. Harvey was never really known to be a liar, In fact, he was quite honest, even as Two-Face. Ivy relented and moved onto the next criminal: Pyg.
"Now you, do you have any idea where Crane is?"
Instead of being verbal, Pyg oinked and squealed as if he were an actual pig. "No no no, Miss Ivy. Pyg does not know of a Crane! But Pyg's offer still stands...I can make your green body more beautiful...a work of art."
"Hard pass." Ivy immediately moved on from Valentin and onto the next. "Lynns, do you know where Scarecrow is?"
"Like I'd ever tell you anything! I'm gonna make sure every plant in Gotham, Burns!"
In immediate response, Ivy unleashed her arachnid creatures onto Firefly, who was now screaming in terror. Hundreds of the little creatures began to cover and bury his body. Ivy was personally enjoying Firefly's torture as he was part of the reason she was kidnapped in the first place. And Also for the plants he had previously burned in front of her.
"Tell me where Scarecrow is, and this ends."
"Oh god! Okay! Okay! I'll talk bitch!" Ivy stopped with her arachnid attack and allowed Firefly to speak. "Now I don't know where Crane currently is, but since he personally required my assistance on occasion, me and him usually met privately with each other near the the closed off bridge that lead into Arkham City, but that's it, i promise you!"
Ivy thought about it. It wasn't an exact location, but it was something that would she thought would help her and Batman. "I believe you, and as a token of my appreciation..."
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I TOLD YOU EVERYTHING I KNOW!"
Ivy decided to have a little fun with Lynns and unleashed her mutated arachnid plants upon him. Soon, Firefly was covered in these miniature plants. Penguin, Two-Face, Stagg & Pyg could only look on as Firefly was being toyed around with.
This caused a huge smile to form on Ivy's face. Even if it was small, she was getting some form of payback on one of her tormentors.
Deciding that she had enough fun and had gotten the information she needed, Ivy released her hold on the arachnid plants that were burying onto Firefly.
She eventually did the same for the rest of the plants that were inside the main cell. "It was a pleasure doing business with you boys."
After a semi successful interrogation, Ivy with a small smile on her face, walked away from the main cell, leaving behind a group of perplexed and shocked super villains...
