February 29th leap day…
Well it WAS another day, Hiccup's birthday! Hiccup didn't really celebrate his birthday oddly enough. All he did was just explore away from the central part of berk and not want to be a burden for one day.
His dad always had chiefing duties or was usually busy in general, and just left him a gift in the morning or when he had time anyways.
It was just an extra day of the year to everyone on Berk, it wasn't that important. And besides everyone just had their own thing to do with the extra day, and Hiccup was used to being alone and thought that this year would be no different, sure he had friends but they probably didn't even know it was his birthday, but he knew that they would find out about his birthday whether he told them or not, and he decided that he would rather tell them personally and not have them hear it from his dad or Gobber…if they asked that is.
All the riders were at the arena and had just finished up training for the day. All the riders except Hiccup were talking about what they would do for leap day while they cleaned their dragons after a long day.
"I'm going to rest and sleep in" said Snotlout
"That's boring! We are going to pull Loki's all over town!" said Tuffnut
"yeah much more fun than sleeping in" said Ruffnut "I agree with snotlout! Rest and relaxation is key! Especially when Hiccup gave us the day off." said Fishlegs
"Thank you Fishface!" said Snotlout "...was that sarcasm?" "No! Why would you think that?" said Snotlout now very confused
"well maybe it's because you're always sarcastic towards me" said Fishlegs bluntly
Astrid rolled her eyes in annoyance and decided to pipe in before a full blown fight broke out amongst the group
"Well I'm going to practice throwing my axe, because since I've been in training I haven't had that much time for it recently" said Astrid enthusiastically. Which started a whole new conversion. Thankfully…
As the others talked she had noticed that Hiccup wasn't talking much. Matter of fact he wasn't talking at all. It looked as if he was thinking but not thinking at the same time.
"Hey Hiccup, what are you doing for the 29th?" she asked to try and ease whatever he was worried or upset about
"huh oh me? Oh maybe just fly around on Toothless really. I've never done anything special on my birthday…" he didn't even realize what he said before it was too late.
"WHAT?!" they all shouted in unison with utter confusion and shock.
"W-what?" he said rather confused by the sudden outburst from all of his friends
"what do you mean what?!" Snotlout shouted "Hiccup it's your birthday…what's not important about that?" fishlegs said
"well I've never celebrated my birthday so it's not that important to me" he said
"Why?" said Snotlout rather empathetically
"...Look i don't know why you guys are making a big deal about this it's just a day like any other…" he was now getting more confused than before.
"wait, wait, wait, you mean to tell me that you've never celebrated your birthday?" said Astrid sadly
"yeah, my dad has just always been busy all the time and i've never had any friends to celebrate it with" they all looked at him with mixtures of sadness and shock.
"Guys it's really not a big deal…i need to get home before it gets to late anyway"
"well if you need me, i've got to go to the forge and work on a project, good night guys…" he said in a mumble as he left the arena, rather quickly
They all stared at each other with sad looks painted on their faces "okay what the heck was that?!" said Snotlout
"Yeah! I mean he's never celebrated his birthday? That's kinda messed up" said Ruffnut
"Yeah but why is the question" said Tuffnut
He was right! Why didn't Hiccup ever celebrate his birthday or why did he say that it wasn't a big deal? It WAS a big deal! And why didn't he tell them that it was his birthday? Did he not want them to know? But like Tuff said, why didn't he celebrate it? She was thinking while everyone talked about the strange encounter.
"Look let's talk to Stoick, maybe he knows something" Astrid said
They all nodded in agreement and went to find stoick and talk to him. But they were all thinking the same thing: why did Hiccup not celebrate his birthday…?
And there it is folks! ik it was small and I'm hoping to write more once I get the hang of writing more!
(like i said this is my first time writing like ever!)
I WILL UPDATE MORE AS TIME GOES ON THAT IS A PROMISE! I will not just abandon my story! Ik how annoying that is!
