Chapter 39: Caught Coppered
After Frank and Len caught up to their remaining friends they had only a few miles to go before they reached me.
"Whoa that was insane!" Len exclaimed.
"I know, I remember Zaí told me that witches are heartless but I thought she said they were all female."
Ok I'll be honest, I made that part up. There is no such thing as a single gender species on this planet, that's just how biology works there are male witches, they're just not as plentiful as the females. So in a way I guess male witches are...rarer so to speak. Does that answer your question?
"Guys come on!" called Iris from up ahead "what took you so long?" she asked.
"So Zerelda do you know where to go?" asked Ruby.
"Yes, all we have to do is use the back entrance to sneak past the armed guards posted outside to infiltrate the lockup and free my daughter."
Meanwhile, in DeDe's dwelling she was drawing up a plan for putting her master plan into motion.
Just then a witch girl rushed in. She had her copper hair in a ponytail and she wore glasses.
"Mastress! Mastress!" She called out to her.
"What is it Wisteria?" DeDe said unamused.
"A gang of outsiders have infiltrated the gates, our guards found them but they escaped. There still within the city limits so they won't get far, the guards are in hot pursuit of bringing them in right now."
"So it apppears as though Zaí's little rescue party fell at the final hurdle, what an inglorious upset, now that they're in my custody I can crush their hopes as well. Once the plan is in motion I'll rip Zaí to pieces in front of them, then they'll all follow shortly after."
"That's an ingenious plan ma'am!" Wisteria exclaimed.
"Oh but on the contrary, I'm just getting started. After I dispose of them, I'll bring this little baby out." she said reaching behind a curtained shelf to pull out a dark red elixir that seemed to sparkle in the light.
"Is that what I think it is?!" Exclaimed Wisteria.
"If you think this is the blood from the last chimera in existance than your assumptions would be correct my friend."
"We just need to reach the point where we can get all the zombies in our captivity, and then we wipe them out entirely to extinction. Then every witch will drink from the vial and we'll all be immortal, free to rule over the entire world with any inferior beings on their knees begging to die."
"Wow! I'd love to be immortal! Then I'll never have to worry about getting all old, gross and wrinkly, Yippee!" She said as she skipped out of the room.
"As much as I love Wisteria it's obvious that her intelligence is below average. I guess it's just a stereotype that people with glasses are smart. I should keep my eye on her though perhaps she's not as vile as I think." She said to herself as she questioned her underlings ulterior motives.
Back with the gang, they had reached DeDe's tower lockup and were hidden from sight.
"So what's the plan?" asked anxiously.
"Oh it's quite simple really, all we need to do is wait until they roll out the laundry bin and we can sneak in while they're distracted."
"Sounds good."
The gang made their way to the back of the lockup they saw large bins being wheeled in and out loaded onto trucks.
"Hold on I forgot the keys." said one of the workers to his co-worker before heading back inside, the other one clearly not paying attention went into the trailer of the truck.
"Nows our chance, go go go.." Zerelda said as they snuck into the bin and hid under the blue lining of the empty bin while the workers back was turned, he then wheeled the empty bin inside and his co-worker came back as they shut the gates and drove away.
"We're in. Another lucky break just like back at the ravine huh?" said Len.
"I suppose we did get lucky again." Scaredy added to his statement.
"Now all we need is to step lightly and maintain the element of surprise." Ruby added. "We're almost there guys I can feel it."
As the gang wandered through the empty halls Doom took the lead to check that the coast was clear, whilst Scaredy was clutching onto Skull Boy with his eyes closed (no surprise there). The entire facility was bathed in a red light that made it look like a boiler room and the further along they went the more turned around they got, it was almost like a labyrinth.
"I'm getting a very unwary feeling about this place." Exclaimed Poe through chattering teeth.
"For the first time I think I agree." said a dishelved Iris. "There's nothing fun about this jail."
"Hey guys check this out!" Ruby said in a hushed tone as everyone gathered around and saw she had found a map of the building.
"This is perfect Ruby!" Iris said.
"Just what we needed." Poe added.
"Talk about a lucky break." Len added.
"Let me see." said Zerelda stepping forwards.
"Okay let's see, if we're here...then Zaí must be being held over here!" She exclaimed pointing to the tower on the west side of the prison.
"They're gonna be killing Zaí over my dead body!" she said.
"Uhh Isn't that a bit redundant?" Frank pointed out since she was a zombie.
"No time for redundancy Frank we've gotta get moving, this way and keep close." Said Ruby.
They went through the hallways until they reached a heavily locked door.
"Betcha that's where they're keeping Zaí." Said Iris.
"The only question is how are we gonna get in?" Skull Boy queried.
Suddenly an alarm went off and a cage dropped directly on top of the gang from above. They all reacted in shock and horror, Scaredy crawled into Skull Boy's jacket and quivered.
"I think we've been found out." stated with a twinge of fear in hos voice.
"So much for a clean getaway." Added Len before the door opened with a cloud of smoke revealing
"Well, well well look who we have here. It's so predictable when people decide to just fall right into the traps set for them." Vyperine said condescendingly. She then magically conjured another communication spell.
"Thanks for the Amber alert Euphemia." She said to the witch back at the battle zone who had set off the signal.
"I wasn't gonna let these outsiders get away." Euphemia said smugly knowing she had foiled their plan.
"Way to bring the house down." said Frank clearly not happy.
Vyperine then ended her "call" and gave a sinister smile. "Thank you I try. Now I think its high time you all met our supreme commander."
"Introducing the witch of wrath, the enchantress of evil, the almighty ruler: DeDe!"
with that DeDe entered the corridor the room was silent as her high heeled boots clacked against the floor, until she spoke.
"Ah our fateful rescue party come to save the day! How intrepid. Unfortunately I knew of your little break-in attempt before you had even arrived.
"You did?" Poe said in shock.
"But how?" added Skull Boy.
Thanks to that Amber alert I knew you'd try to break in to my lair, ergo I told my guards to play along and let you get inside, just so I could apprehend you myself."
Then Vyperine spoke out. "Your grace, on your order, we'll eviscerate them." Her words made the gang all gasp in fear.
"Not yet. Now that I have all of you, I can use you as a means to crush whatever tiny iota of hope Zaí has left." DeDe said.
"But wait perhaps that is a bit too harsh." She pondered. "Who am I trying to kid? If anything it's not harsh enough hahaha!"
"The three of you, take these intruders to my zombie prisoner and make sure that they stay there, I'm sure she'll enjoy the company." DeDe ordered.
Vyperine seemed a bit crestfallen that she couldn't slay them but knew that going against DeDe's command would flag her as a traitor and she'd be slain instead. "Yes ma'am." She said before turning to her cronies. "You heard her, bring them to the dungeon". With that they began dragging them to my current position. I would be seeing them soon, but not in the way I had hoped.

Once again apologies for the update readers I get writers block quite a bit and sometimes I have to rewrite sections of the chapters for not fitting in. I needed to remove a typo from the last chapter I posted because it had an embarrassing spoiler. I also might've based Wisteria on Sonata Dusk. Either way now the witches have chimera blood and which holds the secret to immortality that's going to come into play later so stay tuned.
