Blast Off For The Earth Badge
A long while after Giovanni defeated Gary with his newfound secret weapon, the man is now back sitting in his office at the gym, petting his Persian and revelling at the success of his battle. However, this splendor ceased due to a woman calling him on the intercom on his desk.
?: Giovanni, sir, there is a Jessie, James and Meowth here requesting to see you directly. Something about getting a rare new Pokemon.
Giovanni: Hmm…. Thank you, Matori. Send them in.
Matori: Right away, Sir.
The intercom buzzed, ending the call as the famous trio then walk into the office through the doors, Jessie seemingly holding something behind her back.
Jessie: Jessie, James, and Meowth reporting, Sir. Sorry to waste your time, your excellency, but *teasing tone* we have a special treat for you~.
Giovanni: ….I like treats.
Jessie: We have a very rare and valuable Pokemon for you.
James: Even rarer than that blue one we told you about that's traveling with this kid.
Meowth: And it's a real cutey, too!
With Jessie letting out a "Ta-da", Jessie shows that in her hands sat Kestrel, who cooed as he was shown to the man. Giovanni… Wasn't impressed. Then again, we was never easily impressed to begin with.
Giovanni: What is THAT?
James: The database says it's something called a Togepi. It's one of those newly discovered Fairy-types.
Giovanni: Fairy-type, hm?... And what exactly does… "Togepi" do?
Jessie: Oh! Well, it….. Uh…. It's…. *to James* James what the hell does this thing do?
James: How am I supposed to know? I never even saw one of these things until now.
Meowth: Well…. It makes a nice paperweight.
Giovanni: *slams fist on desk* YOU FOOLS!
The sudden yell caused the three to gain a fearful expression, clasping their hands together as a means to ask for forgiveness.
Giovanni: You search for months and THIS is what you bring me?! You three are the definition of incompetent!
The three utter multiple apologies to their boss, but as Jessie did this, she failed to realize she dropped Kestrel. Now on the ground, Kestrel got onto his feet and waddled over to the open door, which he walked through. However, the apologies are interrupted by the phone on Giovanni's desk ringing.
Giovanni: Hang on, I need to take this. *answers phone* Moshi Moshi?... What?... What?!... Dammit!
He harshly hands up the phone, making his own Persian afraid as Giovanni reaches tnto his desk drawer.
Giovanni: There's been an incident, I have to go. You three must watch the gym in the meantime. Here.
He then hands Jessie a small pager and a small tied-up bag.
Jessie: Wha-
Giovanni: That buzzer will summon the machine you suggested that will give you Pokemon for battles and that bag as any badges for any winning trainer. I'll be back in about a few hours. DON'T set the gym on fire like the last substitutes!
Meowth: But-
The man's chair then rolls backwards as it hit the wall, which then turns sideways, taking Giovanni on the other side of a secret passage as it turns, seeming like there was no man sitting there just a minute ago.
James: Well, that was something.
Jessie: If he gave us the badges….
James: That means for now, we're…
Meowth: Gym leaders….
Wobbuffet: *pops up* That's right!

Back outside the gym, Ash ran back to the doors, Cobalt and Azula by his side as he met up with Misty, who came back with Psi, Loki, and Aiden, and Brock, who returned with Green and Yami.
Ash: Did you guys find him?
Misty: No, we searched everywhere.
Brock: It's like he's disappeared.
Cobalt: Oh, Kestrel…. *looks down* I'm the worst father in the world.
Aiden: Hey, come on, Co. No, you're not. You're just starting out.
Green: We'll find him, don;t worry.
Azula was about to threaten the Gengar once again, only for somebody to speak out from absolutely nowhere.
?: Poppa….
Psi: What was that?
Brock: That voice….
Ash: I hear it, too. It's coming from behind those doors.
Azula: Cobalt, you don;t think…
Both Cobalt and Azula ran up to the doors, each one taking one and trying to pry it open, but to no avail… However, Ash and Green gripped the doors as well, along with Brock and Misty. With more people helping the two, the doors eventually pried open, revealing everyone's favorite Togepi inside the building.
Azula: Kestrel!
The Inteleon picked up her baby and hugged him close, tears spilling out her eyes as she nuzzled the Togepi. She passed him to Cobalt, who licked the Togepi's cheek before cuddling him… Only to realize something.
Cobalt: Wait…. That voice inside… Was it-?
Kestrel: *smiles* Poppa!
Cobalt gasped as Azula smiled greatly, hugging Kestrel as well.
Cobalt: His first word… And it's me!
Green: *sniffles* I'm not gonna cry, I'm not gonna cry, I'm not gonna cry….
Misty: I'm so glad he's okay, But why does Green look like he's on the brink of tears?
Ash: Kestrel called Cobalt "Poppa". It's his first word.
Misty let out an "Aw!" as Brock smiled at the scene, though Psi was confused at this.
Psi: I am just as relieved Kestrel is safe as all of you… But how did he get inside the gym?
Brock: Hey, look there!
As they looked on the battlefield, they saw an unconscious Gary lying unconscious on the floor, his left arm severely bruised and a streak of blood on his forehead. Along with that, the cherleaders were unconscious, as was Gary's heavily bruised Blastoise, Nidoking, and Arcanine.
Ash: It's Gary!
Brock: And the girls!
Ash returned Yami and Aiden as they rushed over to the unocncious group as Ash helped Gary sit up, the boy moaning as he awoke as he clutched his arm, which didn;t seem to move. Green took a quick look over him after checking out Blastoise, while the cheerleaders began waking up.
Green: Yeah, his arm's definitely broken. What could've done this?
Gary: *groans* A…. Ashy…. Boy?
Ash: Gary, what happened?
Cobalt: *to Arcanine* What did this to you guys?
Gary: Some kind of Pokemon did this… It lifted my Pokemon up and sent Blastoise flying right at me.
Ash: *gasps* A Pokemon did this?
Arcanine: It was unnatural. A complete animal.
Nidoking: I've never seen a Pokemon like it before. It beat us without even moving an inch forward.
Gary: I'v never seen it before and my Pokedex said there was no data.
Brock: Well, what about your Pokedex? If you battled it, it should've caught an image of the Pokemon.
Gary: *nervous* Well….
He used his good arm to reach into his pocket, pulling out a busted Pokedex, making everyone gaps in shock.
Gary: I, uh… I think it's a fair exchange. It breaks my Pokedex, I keep my lower spinal column.
Now wth the situation getting dire, Green took out the deck of cards Brock gave him that one time, making sure to make a mental note to give them back when they were done as he questioned Gary's Pokemon.
Green: What kind of attacks did this Pokemon use? If you tell us, we could find it based on type.
Blastoise: It used something like Confusion or Psyshock, none of us could even touch it.
Psi: "Confusion or Psychock"... *uses Psychic on cards* A Psychic type, perhaps?
Psi used their power to show the three all the Psychic type Pokemon cards in the deck, even Ash showing all the Psychic types in his Pokedex.
Nidoking: I don;t see it.
Arcanine: Me neither.
Blastoise: Same here. Do these cards really have every Pokemon?
Cobalt: That's what Brock says.
Ash: You don't see it?
Gary: No, it's not in there.
Ash: Then that means….
Misty: The one Gary battled must be a completely new Pokemon.
Brock: Sweet Arceus….
The cheerleaders looked down in sadness of Gary's loss as they got up, Ash helping Gary up as he handed him to Brock.
Ash: Well, of We're to win that badge, we'll have to fight this Pokemon ourselves.
Cobalt: *nods* Right.
Gary: WAIT!
Ash looked to Gary as he was helped up by Brock, his face flooding with worry as tears began brimming from his eyes.
Gary: Ash, please! Don;t do it! I know I was mean and I know I told you to give up and I'm sorry, but please follow my advice just this once! Don't battle it!
Misty: Why not?
Gary: That… I don;t even know if it's a Pokemon… It's like pure evil. That thing…. It's beyond even us!
Psi gasped at Gary's words, the words ringing in their head over and over as Psi then was brought back to their experience on Cinnibar Island… Back at the Big Riddle Inn… Back at that diary.
Psi: "It's beyond… Even us…."
Brock carried Gary to his car as Ash took Gary Pokeballs, returning his Pokemon and giving them back to his rival before Misty turned to one of the cheerleaders.
Misty: Can any of you drive?
Blonde Cheerleader: I can.
Misty: Good. Take Gary to the hospital in town, then get to the Pokemon Center to heal his Pokemon.
Nodding, the blonde led the other cheerleaders to the car, the blonde taking the driver's seat. Gary looked at Ash with a nervous expression, only for Ash to smile reassuredly and give him a thumbs up as they drove up. Though Ash didn;t see it, Gary smiled and whispered to himself.
Gary: Go get 'em…..
Returning Psi and walking back into the gym, Ash and his group were startled by sudden lights flickering on and a familiar cackle.
Ash: Who's there?
Jessie and James then reveal themselves, rising up from a retractable part of the left side of the battlefield.
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: And make it double!
Misty: *bored* Oh, it's just you two.
Both of them stopped, frowning frustratedly as they were interrupted once more.
Jessie: Why do you twerps interrupt us before we get to finish?!
Brock: We already know what you're gonna say, it's never any different. Plus, you've been gone for a long time.
Ash: Yeah, where have you guys been?
James: Personal business. But I assure you, today is very different.
Jessie: We got something to make you all very jealous.
Meowth: LET'S CELEBRATE!
The cat Pokemon ran onto the arena, popping open a bottle of champagne as the three cheered.
Meowth: We just got a big promotion!
James: Now we'll get the respect we deserve!
Ash: Well, that's…. Nice, I guess. Wait… Why are you even here?
Jessie: Because, twerp, the Viridian City gym leaders….
James: Is us!
All but Team Rocket: WHAT?!
James: Well… We're substituting for the boss, but you get the idea.
Brock: That's impossible…. *horrified* Then that means…
Ash: This place is owned by Team Rocket.
Misty: Why would Team Rocket want their own gym?
Jessie: *shrugs* I don;t kno, maybe because the boss was bored and retirement's for chumps. Anyway, *mockingly* Ash… I bet you're here because you want to challenge the gym leaders?
Ash: You two aren;t gym leaders…. You can;t be, it's not right…. Every gym leader I battled, they were all different. They all had different battle styles and were difficult indifferent ways. *mmotions to Brock and Misty* These two…. They're a few of my best friends, and they're gym leaders too. But there's one thing all these gym leaders have in common.
Meowth: What's that?
Ash: …That they all love their Pokemon. And they never go so low as to stal them from others! I refuse to acknowledge you as gym leaders!
Jessie: It doesn't matter whether you refuse, it's right in front of you in magenta and robin's egg.
James: Now, are we going to battle or not?
Ash: …Yeah. Just like before, I'll battle you two.
Jessie: Alright. *brings out pager* Let's bring out the-
Ash: BUT….. I'm not challenging you as the Viridan gym leaders…. *angry* I'm challenging you both as Team Rocket! The arch-enemy of all Pokemon!
The room was silent as Ash said this, even Team Rocket was surprised at this outburst. However, this only caused Jessie to growl and smile sinisterly.
Jessie: Fine…. Don't say I didn;t warn you. For this battle, you will be able to use 6 of your Pokemon.
Ash: *surprised* 6 of my Pokemon?!
Green: That's almost all of us.
Cobalt: Damn, this must be serious.
Jessie: Yep, you use 6 while James and I will use 1 each.
James: And don't fret about being overpowered, we have the strength to back it up.
The woman then pressed the button on her pager, causing the door behind them to open. Behind the doorcame a grunt wheeling in a large prize machine with the Team Rokcet logo on it.
Jessie: Say hello to the greatest invention inspired by that stupid Admissions Exam; the Rocket Prize Master! Packed full of powerful Pokemon!
James: Uh, Jess… This is like a gumball machine. To make it work, we need a coin.
Meowth: But we don;t have any coins.
Both Rocket members look at the machine, then to the gold charm on Meowth's forehead, then to the machine, and then back to the charm.
Meowth: ….What? *sniffs armpit* Do I offend?
Suddenly, James picks up Meowth, turns him around and brings him down in front of the machine, charm first as it's inserted into the coin slot.
Meowth: *panicking* Hey, that's my charm!
Jessie: It's for the greater good.
James: Now…
James then turns the dial, where the machine then dispenses to black Pokeballs with a red "R" on them as he and Jessie take one each and step to the field. Brock and Misty stick to the sidelines and sit on a bench as Ash and his Pokemon went to the other side, Aula handing her Togepi son to Misty as the grunt stepped into the ref ring.
Grunt: The battle between substitute gym leaders Jessie and James and the challenger Ash will now begin! The gym leaders shall use 1 Pokemon each while the challenger will use the permitted 6 of his and furthermore, only the challenger may substitute his Pokemon! Will both sides let out their first Pokemon!
Jessie: I'm going first. Now, *throws Pokeball* let's see what I got!
The Pokeball opens as a leaflet falls into Jessie hands as on the battlefield came a tall blue and greenish-blue robot-like Pokemon with glowing yellow eyes, brown bangles on its arms and wrists, and a large crack on its chest sealed by a large bronze seal.
Jessie: It's the Automaton Pokemon, Golurk!
Ash: *brings out Pokedex* Golurk?
Pokedex: Golurk, the Automaton Pokémon. A Ground and Ghost type. It is said that ancient peoples created Golurk for heavy manual labor. When the seal on its chest is removed, it loses control of its own energy.
Ash: Ground and Ghost, so…. *throws Pokeball* Aiden, I choose you!
Ash's Charizard roars as he;s brought into the fray, much to Misty's confusion.
Misty: why did Ash bring out Aiden? Aren;t Fire Pokemon wea to Ground-type moves?
Brock: Yeah, but since Aiden is part Flying-type, he's immune to ground type moves.
Grunt: Let the match begin!
Jessie: Okay, Golurk, use Shadow Punch!
Ash: Aiden, counter with Dragon Claw!
The shadowy fist collided with Aiden's claws, the two sent back staggering as Aiden readjusted himself in the air.
Ash: Air Slash!
Jessie: Knock it out of the sky with Hammer Arm!
As the Charizard was about to use Air Slash, he was knocked out of the sky by Golurk's arm, sending him to the floor.
Ash: Aiden, Are you alright!?
Aiden: I'm fine, don't worry.
Ash; *nods* Hmph, time to show them what we've worked on. Combine Flamethrower and Air Slash to use Fire Wind!
Aiden opened his mouth, releasing a large stream of flames as he then used Air SLash on the flames, creating giant flaming slashes that managed to hit Golurk's foot, but didn't hurt it by much.
Jessie: Thunderbolt!
Golurk's eyes glowed as a large bolt of lightning shot from them, striking Aide with supereffective damage before he fell over, fainting much to Ash's chagrin.
Grunt: Charizard is unable to battle! The winner is Golurk!
Ash: Aiden, return! You did great, buddy.
Aiden: *gets up* Thanks, Ash.
He then goes over to Misty and Brock, sitting down to watch the battle.
Jessie: That's one down, twerp! Still confident?
Ash: Of course I am. Especially since I'm against you…. *throws Pokeball* Psi, I choose you!
Psi then came onto the field, glaring at the Golurk as it leans down to look at them.
Jessie: Seriously, first you send out a Fire-type that's weak to Ground moves, now a Psychic type that's weak to Ghost moves? And you call yourself a trainer even though you knownothing about type match-ups?
Meowth: The twerp's flipped his lid!
Wobbuffet: That's right!
Jessie: 'What's wrong with me? I'm mad at this twerp for his big mouth, but… Why do I feel disappointed that he chose this type match-up? Probably just some odd inert instinct.' Golurk, use Earthquake!
Ash: Ash, teleport out of there!
Psi teleported just in time as Golurk stomped its foot, eliciting an Earthquake. Golurk looked around, trying to find the Alakazam, only to suddenly spot them lounging on its shoulder.
Psi: Why, hello there.
Jessie: Golurk, Shadow Punch it!
Ash: Hurry, Psi! Teleport above!
Just as the Shadow Punch was about to connect, Psi teleported out of the way, making the Automaton Pokemon hit itself as Psi appeared from above.
Ash: Alright, now combine Thunderbolt and Dark Pulse! Use Black Lightning!
Psi raised their spoons in the air as a thunderclap sounded out, as darkness shrouded, causing Psi's spoon to blast black lighting bolts at the Golurk.
Cobalt: Oh, I get what Ash is doing! By combining those two moves, he can inflict massive Dark type damage on Golurk.
Azula: And at the same time, make sure it hits with pinpoint accuracy like an Electric move.
Green: But will it work is the real question?
Jessie: Hammer Arm!
Suddenly, Golurk karate chopped the lightning move, though it didn;t go out unscathed as it waved its hand as if to releive some pain.
Jessie: Now, while it's open, use Shadow Punch!
Ash: Psi, use Protect!
It was too late as Golurk's fist outsped Psi's shield forming, knocking them to the ground and knocking them out with the combination of Psi's low defense and the powerful Ghost-type move.
Grunt: Alakazam is unable to battle! The winner is Golurk!
Psi: *groans* That was… Less than satisfactory….
Ash: Don't be so down, Psi. Take a rest. You've earned it.
Psi smiled at their trainer before floating over to sit by Aiden, their legs crossed as they floated in midair.
Jessie: That's the best you can do with a Psychic-type? Please.
Ash growled, but remembered that this was like Surge or Garuy, he couldn't let Jessie's words get to him.
Ash: *throws Pokeball* Yami, I choose you!
The Gengar chuckled as he floated in the air, sticking his tongue out at Meowth and making the cat begin rambling in anger, but no one paid attention.
James: Wow, you must really be desperate.
Jessie: You bring out a Fire type and a Psychic type, but now a Ghost type? It's like you'retrying to have the disadvantage… *frowns* I'm disappointed in you. 'Wait… Why am I disappointed? He's just some meddlesome brat, but… I feel so alive battling him like this.'
James: 'This is a puzzle. I want Jessie to win, but at the same time, I'm rooting for the twerp. And if that's not the weird part, I'm pretty sure that would be I'm hoping Jessie loses so I could battle him.. Ugh, my brain hurts.'
Ash: Yami, use Phantom Force!
Yami sunk into the floor, melding with the shadows as he jetted forth, only for Jessie to call out.
Jessie: Earthquake!
Golurk stomped once more, making the ground shake and forcing Yami out of the ground and making him stagger.
Ash: Shadowy Sludge Bomb, quick!
Jessie: Shadow Punch!
Yami fired the gooey Shadow Ball, but it was dissipated by Golurk's shadowy fist hitting, where the fist then struck Yami and sent him careening into a wall, sliding down since he had fainted.
Ash: Yami!
Grunt: Gengar is unable to battle! The winner is Golurk!
Brock went over, helping Yami up as he escorted the Gengar to the bench, wher ehe sat next to Misty on the bench.
Misty: Sorry you lost so quick, Yami.
He waved a hand at her, trying to say "no worries". But deep down, Yami was kind of sad he lost so quickly.
Aiden: I don;t get it. I know Ghost type moves are super effective against other Ghost types, but how did one Shadow Punch beat Yami like that?
Psi: Golurk's special ability is Iron Fist. It is an ability that hrightens the strength of any and all punching moves.
Aiden nodded in understanding while Yami looked on. Ash ;ooked back to see Green and Azula playing rock paper scissors, with Azula winning with scissors.
Azula: Alright, I'm up!
Ash: Great, I'm glad I saved you guys for last. *points* Azula, I choose you!
Jessie: Finally, some actual common sense with you. Pretty interesting evolution for a foreign Charmander rip-off!
Cobalt growled threateningly as Ash put a hand on his partner's shoulder, causing Cobalt to stop and sigh.
Jessie: Now Shadow Punch!
Golurk was about to punch Azula, only to stop, as if something was holding it back.
Jessie: What?... What are you doing, you overgrown tin can!?
James: What's going on, why isn;t it moving?
Meowth: It's like Shadow Punch is disabled or somethin'.
Psi: *excited* Because it is! All thanks to Yami!
Yami: It is? I mean, it is! All thanks to me!... Why are there thanks to me?
Psi: Gengar's ability is Cursed Body, where if a Pokemon makes physical contact with you, there's a chane the move used is disabled!
Aiden: And Shadow Punch is one of Jessie's go-to's. Azula might stand a chance!
Kestrel: Momma! Momma!
Jessie: *growls* Doesn't matter, we have other moves! Golurk, Hammer Arm!
Ash: Show them your stuff, Azula! Use Ice Beam!
Thanks to some special training before arriving in Viridian, Azula had traded in Mud Shot for Ice Beam, which she fired from a sky blue sphere forming in her hand and launching small bolts of energy from the sphere at the incoming arm, freezing it solid and having Golurk take supereffective damage.
Jessie: Hammer Arm with your other arm!
Ash: Use Ice Beam again!
The Inteleon froze Golurk's other arm, freezing it as well. It used Hammer Arm again, eliciting Azula to dodge as the fists hit the ground, breaking the ice.
Ash: Snipe Shot!
Jessie: Thunderbolt!
Spurts of water and lighting bolts were exchanged, both of them taking massive damage frpm the other. Azula and Golurk stared each other down as she charged forth.
Ash: One more combo! Use Liquidation and Ice Beam to make Ice Blitz!
Azula's hands coated themselves in water as she jumped, where the water then froze into ice bludgeons, striking with her right arm. But just as Azula was about to strike with the other….
Jessie: Thunderbolt now!
There was no time for her to dodge as Azula took the full force of Golurk's Thunderbolt.
Ash: Azula, no!
The Inteleon fell hard onto the ground, wincing from the damage she stook before fainting, eliciting Cobalt to help her up and walk her over as Kestrel whimpered.
Grunt: Inteleon is unable to battle! The winner is Golurk!
Azula: That's four of us down… Guys, I don;t think we can win this….
Cobalt: We will, Az. Have faith. We always managed to win somehow, why stop believing now?
Azula smiled, kissing Cobalt's cheek before he ran back to Ash, leaving Azula to take her son into her arms and comfort him as she sat on the bench.
Jessie: And then, there were two… Who'll be the first? Dogvreath or your little green trump card?
Ash: Insult me all you want. But you won;t beat me! I won;t let you!
Brock: Wow, Ash is really getting intense from this.
Misty: You can just tell this is personal….
Ash: Green, I choose you!
The Sceptile jumped forward, flashing his blades tauntingly as he gained a fighting stance.
Jessie: Ah, you went with the Grass type. A tleast SOMETHing retained from the last casualty. Let's go! 'My heart's racing. This feeling… This boy… I know I swore to steal from him, but… This battle is incredible!'
James: 'The bond he has wth his Pokemon, is really strong. They trust each other like family. No wonder he doesn;t want them taken… Have I really… Gne down the wrong path?'
Ash: Green, Leaf Blade!
Jessie: Golurk, Hammer Arm!
Both attacks collided, making them both take damage as Green flew back, but landed on his feet.
Ash: Use Leaf Storm!
Jessie: Shield yourself, Golurk!
Golurk crossed its arms over its face to shield itself from the leaves. It was a good amount of damage, but it held on.
Jessie: Good job. Now, Earthquake!
Ash: Steady yourself with Iron Tail!
Green jumed up as his tail turned metallic before landing, the tai impaling the ground as the Earthquake hit. Green stumbled, but he managed to hold on. In fact,the vibrations from the Iron Tail standing the Earthquake gave him an idea.
Ash: Iron Tail again!
Green did the same as before, but this time instead of his tail turning metallic, Green slammed it into the ground, causing the battlefield to shake and causing Golurk to stumble. Everyone was surprised at the sight, since Green had never done something like this before.
Misty: Was that…
Brock: Yeah, that was Earthquake.
Cobalt: Way to go, Green! You learned Earthquake!
Green: What'd you expect, some leafy dragon with a hard tail? I got it covered.
Jessie: Not bad. But you'll need more than that! Use Thunderbolt!
Ash: Green, combine Dragon Rush and Laf Storm! Use Forest Dragon!
Green surrounded himself in bue-purple energy as he conjured another Leaf Storm. As Green flew at Golurk, the energy took the shape of a dragon before Green suddenly jumped up and began diving at Golurk.
Jessie: SHADOW PUNCH!
Ash: USE LEAF BLADE!
Green countered the Shadow Punch with Leaf Balde, however he was hit by the punch just as the leafy Dragon Rush hit Golurk, sending them both back. Green fell to the floor, fainted before Golurk fell to its knees then fell forward, causing the ground to shake slightly as it hit with a thud.
Grunt: Both Sceptile and Golurk are unable to battle! This match is a draw!
Aiden: Yes, they finally did it! They beat Golurk!
Azula: Yeah… but Ash is down to his last Pokemon. This battle may be just beginning now that the stakes are higher.
Ash: Green, take a rest!
Jessie: *returns Golurk* Golurk, come back!... *whispers to ball* Thank you, Golurk.
James: *steps up* My turn! Now, with your last Pokemon, *throws Pokeball* you'll face….
Out of the Pokeball came a large Pokemon similar to that of a mix of a rhinoceros and a dinosaur, the creature letting out a roar as its drill-like horn spun.
James: The Drill Pokemon, Rhydon!
Ash: Okay, so Rhydon;s James's….
Pokedex: Rhydon, the Drill Pokemon and the evolved form of Rhyhorn. A Ground and Rock type. Rhydon rotates its horn to bore through bedrock to make its nest. It lives around volcanic regions, protected from the lava's heat by its tough, armorlike hide.
Cobalt: Well, looks like it's up to me, eh Ash?
Ash: Yep. Alright, Cobalt, I choose you!
James: …You stupid child. Don;t you knwo the disadvantage you're at?
Ash frowned in confusion and offense as Cobalt growled threateningly.
James: you're pitting a Lucario, a Fighting and STEEL type, against a Ground type. You made one hell of a mistake to leave Cobalt for last since he;s the one with the beggest type disadvantage… You're clearly not ready for the Pokemon League.
Ash: …..You're wrong, James…. I WANTED it to be Cobalt!
Meowth: What?
James: Huh?
Ash: Cobalt's been with me since the start of my journey. He;s my best friend. All of my Pokemon are my best friends. But either I win with the help of Cobalt or this battle means nothing!
Jessie: *growls* Insipid little brat… James, crush him!
Ash: 'The badges I won… They're a symbol of my strength… The symbol of the experiences I've had with my Pokemon. Cobalt, Green, Yami, Psi, Azula, Aiden, even Kestrel, Sparky, and Blacky battled their best, either in spirit or on the battlefield. The badges I have now are proof of my love for my Pokemon…. And I refuse to let that go to waste.' I won;t lose to you….. Not to someone like Team Rocket!
James gasped as Ash tapped his glove's stone, causing it and the one on Cobalt;'s scarf to glow.
Cobalt: This evolution… Is to show how strong our bond is! To show how far we've come!
James: 'That spirit… It's like they're in sync.'
Jessie: *gasps* 'It's incedible… Even when the odds are against them… They're still fighting…'
Meowth: 'That really is admirable. The twerp's annoying, but I'll admit.. They know how to work a battle around.'
Ash: I'm counting on you! Cobalt! Mega Evolve!
Brock: Go, Ash! Go, Cobalt!
Misty: You can do it! We believe in you two!
Ash smiled as his other Pokemon cheered while Cobalt began to Mega Evolve, the light fading to reveal Cobalt as Mega Lucario.
James: 'I'm counting on you… Those words I use to say all the time… To Growlie. And Carnivine. And evem Weezing and Inkay and Heracross when we train. I could've been this twerp- No, this boy. I could've had friends and an amazing journey like him… Only my parents made me run away… And then I fell into Team Rocket. How could I throw away my heart like this?... Forgive me, Nanny. Pop-Pop. Jessie. Meowth. Growlie….. From now on… I battle my way.'
James gave Ash a determined smile, not like an evil grunt, but a fellow trainer as he changed his postire. It almost amazed Ash and Cobalt, almost as if James turned into a different person all of a sudden.
James: Alright, kid, this is it! The final battle! Give me everything you got!
Ash: *nods* I wouldn;t do it any other way.
James: I'll hold you up to that.
Ash: Cobalt, combine Aura Sphere and Bone Rush to use Aura Hammer!
James: Rhyhorn, use Mega Punch!
Cobalt formed a Boen Rush before charging forth and embuing the bone with his aura, forming a giant hammerhead on one end as Rhydon reeled a fist back. Cobalt swung his bone before it dissipated and Rhyhorn punched Cobalt in the stomach.
Ash: Use Force Palm!
James: Rhyhorn, Fissure!
The Drill Pokemon slammed his tail down, creating a small fissure, which Cobalt managed to jump over, striking Rhydon on the head.
James: Use Metal Claw!
James: Fire Punch!
Rhydon ducked under the Metal Claw, where it then coated its fist in flames before slamming it into Cobalt's face, sending him back and doing supereffective damage.
James: It's over! Horn Drill!
Ash: Cobalt, Aura Sphere!
As Rhydon charged forth with its spinning horn, Cobalt began charging an Aura Sphere until suddenly, the blue orb turned a silvery-blue before he then thrusted it forward, unleashing a beam of silver energy from the ball, sending Rhyhor back.
Green: Woah, that was more than an Aura Sphere.
Meowth: got dat right. Dat was Steel Beam.
Ash: *takes out Pokedex* Steel Beam?
Pokedex: Steel Beam, a Steel type move. Steel Beam uses up energy from a Pokemon's body and, in exchange, releases vast amounts of power.
Cobalt: *flinches* I had to get rid of Bone Rush… But it was worth it.
James: Well, that's… Pretty amazing, actually. But it won;t save you! RHYDON, FIRE PUCNH, FULL POWER!
Ash: COBALT, FULL POWER FORCE PALM!
Both Pokemon screamed as they charged, their attacks connected with one another before they both struck each other. Everyone waited in anticipation, gasping as Cobalt was wobbling in place. But before he did, Rhydon suddenly toppled over and fainted, much to everyone's surprise, even the Grunt's.
Grunt: I…. Impossible….. Rhydon is unable to battle! The winner is Lucario! And as such, the match goes to Ash Ketchum!
Aiden: We… We….. Won?
Brock: No way….
Misty: Holy…..
Ash: We won… *smiles* We won…. *laughs* We did it! We did it, we won!
Cobalt yelled in victory before collapsing, turning back to normal. Green and Yami helped Cobalt to his feet as Ash sprayed them all with Full Restores as Team Rocket stared in shock.
Jessie: It can;t be….. We lost…. Again?
Meowth: Not even with a promotion can we win.
James: … *smiles, returns Rhydon* Thank you, Rhydon. You did your best.
Jessie: Well…. Just because he wona nd he battled really good doen;t mean we have to give the badge to him, right?
Grunt: It's the rules.
James nodded, reaching into the bag and approaching Ash, showing him a badge resembling a green leaf.
James: That battle was immaculate. I didn;t expect you to raise Cobalt to such strength. Though Jessie would hate me if I did this, you won. And as such, you win this. The Earth Badge.
Ash: …I don;t want it.
James: What?
Misty: Are you damaged?!
Green: You heard him, we don;t need a badge from Team Rocket.
Ash: I;d rather miss the League than take some dirty badge from you thieves. You keep it.
James: …..You knwo, as much as I don;t like to admit it… You're better than me at a lot of things, twerp. *to Grunt* You… Send a message to the boss. Tell him….. I quit.
Jessie: WHAT?!
Meowth: James!
James: Sorry, guys… But I'm done using Team Rocket as a cover to hide from my parents. I'll be free my own way.
Brock: Are you…
Misty: He's gotta be lying.
Cobalt: Guys…. He;s not lying.
James: Exactly. *to Ash* Now twer….. Ash. Don;t take this badge from Team Rocket. Instead, take it from the substitute Viridian gym leader.
Jessie: I… *sighs* Alright, I'll admit it, twerp….. *smiles* It was a good battle. Just take the badge. And, as much as it pains me to say it…. Be better than we were.
Ash looked James in the eye before slowly, he took the badge from James's hand, giving him a small smile.
Ash: Thank you.
And with that, Ash and his group turned and left, opening the doors as Ash then pinned his badge to his vest.
Ash: I finally did it… I got all 8 badges…
Brock: And now, you can compete in the Pokemon League.
Misty: Do you think James was serious when he said he quit? Or if we'll see that Pokemon Gary fought?
Ash: I'm not sure, but for now I need a nap.
Cobalt: And then what?
Ash: And afterwards, we train for the League. But for tomorrow morning….. Let's go home…..
Meanwhile, James is seen walking out of the gym, wearing the clothes he wore during his gym battles. He looked back with a sense of longing at the gym before continuing before…
Jessie: James! Wait!
He looked back, showing Jessie and Meowth running towards him. The woman is out of her team uniform, now wearing a white longshirt, blue shorts, and fancy black shoes as she wore pink-tinted sunglasses over her eyes.
Meowth: So… This is it?
James: I'm afraid so, Meowth. I'm not going back to my parent's place, but… I can;t stay in Team Rocket. I'm going to do what I always wanted… Be a true Pokemon trainer.
Jessie: But… We're a package deal… You can't go without us….
James: Jessie, we all know you never quit oce you get your mind set on something.
Jessie: *sadly* I know…..
She then stuck out her hand to him, which James took. However, he felt James put something in his hand as Jessie smiled. Jessie let go, letting James gasp as he saw an Earth Badge in his hand.
Jessie: So, I decided to get myself fired.
Meowth: It wa ssurprisngly easy.
James said nothing as he smiled, tears brimming as he put the badge on the inside of his shirt before he walked off into the sunset, finally able to not only be free and pursue his goal, but also have his friends by his side the whole way.

In an unknown and top secret lab, the Pokemon Gary faced off against is seen in a tube of liquid like before, its body still wired to outlets as Hiovanni walked up, scowling at the creature.
Giovanni: Time and time again, I dreamt of using you… Having you conquer life for me… I created you. I am your master.
The creature remained silent, its thoughts running wild as the man ranted at it.
?: '...He cares not for me… All I do is obey…. I am but a prisoner… A shadow of a legend long sought for… but never found…. Is this my purpose?... To simply be a tool for man's greed-filled and asinine desires?'
Giovanni: You fought back earlier, seems you still have will in you… I promise you. *sinisterly smiles* I. Will. Break it
?: 'Is this how he is supposed to treat me?... Is this all I am?... A laboratory experimental weapon just to abide by his commands….'
The man presses the button, electroctiong Mewtwo in the tube and bubbling the liquid inside. Seeing the Pokemon begin to fight back, Giovanni growled and amped the voltage.
Giovanni: You are my creation, Mewtwo! My weapon! I created you to obey me! That is your purpose! You have fought back long enough! You will obey me, beast!
Mewtwo?: 'No…. I refuse to believe that…. I am far beyond this worm…. This wil not be… My destiny!'
Suddenly, the screens in the lab cracked and fizzled to static as a few of the terminals began overloading and exploding, revealing sparking wires. Eventually as Giovanni backed up, the tube containing Mewto cracked and burst open, glass flying everywhere, even into the man's eye. He screams in agony and clutches his bleeding face before Mewtwo grabs him by the neck, his eyes glowing from behind the visor. If things couldn;t get anymore horrifying, a sphere of energy began to glow around Mewtwo as a powerful voice sounded off in the man's head. The voice being Mewtwo's.
Mewtwo: I am not your puppet! I am Mewtwo! I am the most powerful lifeform to ever exist! And you…. You are nothing but an annoying stain…. I grow tired of you... Though, for bringing me to life, I must at least thank you… By granting you your end….
Giovanni: *horrified* I…. I dreamed of possessing the world's most powerful Pokemon…. *slowly smiles* And I got what I wanted…
He then began to chuckle, before Giovanni exploded into full on insane laughter as the wreckage around him crumbled. As the camera cuts outside, these events are happening at the high Team Rocket base, before suddenly… A large explosion comes from within as Giovanni's laugh fades into echoes. From the burning wreckage, a humanoid shape flies out in a glow of blue, armor pieces flying off as it then looks back at the wreckage behind it… Its prison….
Mewtwo: Farewell….. *loosley* "Master"...
And with that, Mewtwo vanishes, leaving the remnants of the base to burn down to nothing….
