The Imitation Confrontation
After Ash and his friends encounter Champion Alder as they leave Unova, our heroes relax upon the now descending plane as they land in the Hoenn region, home to Ash's next Frontier Battle against the supposed "Pike Queen", alongside Serena's next Pokemon Contest.
Pilot: *over intercom* Attention, passengers, this is your captain speaking. We are about to touch down in the lush and beautiful Fortree City of the Hoenn Region. Thank you for flying Air Mistralton and we hope to see you again soon.
As the plane landed, Ash, Cobalt, Green, Serena, Oliver, Gary, and Grookey walked into the airport, looking out the window to see Fortree City's famous treehouses.
Cobalt: So, this is the Hoenn region. Once you start traveling everywhere, it doesn't seem too different from home, huh?
Ash: I can understand that, Cobalt, but it's about what you discover in a region that matters. And what we're gonna discover is my next Frontier Symbol.
Serena: And don't forget my Contest Ribbon.
Gary: You know, Ash, Sceptile are native to Hoenn. Bet Green feels a bit at home here.
Green: Actually, now he mentions it, yeah. I do feel a bit homey here.
Ash: Well, that's probably natural. Come on, let's get a layout of the town and find the Pokemon Center.
As the group began to leave, Serena stopped as she saw her Oshawoot begin to lag behind and stumble.
Serena: Oliver?... Is something wrong?
Oliver: I… I… Serena, I… I don-...
Suddenly, Oliver began to fall over, causing her to gasp sharply as she ducked down to catch him before he hit the floor.
Serena: Oliver! Oh no… What do I do?
Just then, a familiar (to us, at least) voice rang out, causing Serena to look up.
?: Excuse me. It's about your Pokemon…
The camera pans up to reveal the voice to belong to Brock! Yes, baby, LET'S GO! Brocky boy's back!
Brock: See, I'm studying to become a Pokemon breeder, so I know a thing or two about medicine.
Serena: I… Thank you. It's my Oshawott, we just got off the plane and he just collapsed.
Brock: Say no more.
Meanwhile, Ash, Gary, and their Pokemon had just reached the sliding doors to the outside.
Cobalt: Hey, I wonder if we'll find the Water starter of this region. Wouldn't that be cool, Ol?... Oliver?
Grookey: Ollie gone!
Gary: *looks back* Ash, wait. Where's Serena?
Ash: Huh? She was… right behind us, right?
Ash and his starters looked back behind as the crowd thinned out, only to see Serena kneeling on the floor, holding her unconscious Oshawott. However, what really surprised them was the familiar male looking Oliver over.
Cobalt: Wait… Is that….?
Green: It couldn't be… Could it?
Ash: Is that… *starts smiling* Is that Brock?!
Brock: Mm-hmm…. Mm-hmmm….. Just as I thought. He just has a little bit of jetlag. He'll be fine after he gets some rest.
Serena: I see, thank you so much.
Brock: Not a problem.
Ash: HEY! BROCK!
Both Serena and Brock turned to see Ash, Cobalt, and Green running towards them just as a female stewardess walked in front of him. Seeing the stewardess, Brock immediately became excited as he ran forward…. Only to push the stewardess away.
Brock: MOVE! *to Ash* Ash?!
Ash: Brock!
Ash/Brock: What are you doing here?!... What am I doing here? What are YOU doing here?!
The two suddenly stare before laughing loudly and hugging each other.
Ash: I missed you so much!
Brock: I missed you too, buddy. *to Cobalt and Green* Cobalt, Green, good to see you guys again. Ash been improving his cooking?
The two Pokemon smile and give their own greetings as Gary and Serena approach the small group.
Gary: Brock, it's a surprise to see you here.
Brock: Gary? Well, I could say the same to you, especially with Ash. *to Serena* And I don't think we've been introduced.
Ash: Oh, this is Serena. We actually met when we were kids, but she moved to Kalos some time after. She just started her journey not too long ago.
Serena: So…. You're Brock? Ash and Cobalt told me about you. It's nice to meet you.
Brock: Glad to meet you to-... Wait…. Ash AND Cobalt?
Serena: He….. He told me you know he could talk to Pokemon…. I can too.
Brock's eyes seemed to widen at the information as Gary chimed in.
Gary: Maybe the airport isn't a good place for this. Let's head for the Pokemon Center?
Cobalt/Green: Oh no.
Though, as they walk out of the airport, they were unaware of some kind of… invisible presence watching them, curiously.

Meanwhile, back in Galar, we see a lightning bolt ascend from the rocky crevasses near Stow-On-Side. At the fossil excavation site, Bray and Cara have been knocked unconscious as Mudsdale falls to the ground. Just before the Draft Horse went unconscious, he's picked up by the mane by what we know is the reincarnated Pikachu… At least, he ain't a Pikachu now.
Mudsdale: Wha…. What do you want?
Leader Pikachu?: I sense the aura of a human that passed by here. He wears a red cap and is with a Lucario and Sceptile! Where did he go?!
Mudsdale: *eyes widen* I-I don't know. He… Just passed by a few weeks ago, didn't say where he was going-
Leader Pikachu?: LIES! I know he went here… Now where is he?!
Suddenly, back in Kanto's Mt. Moon, the Clefable Luna suddenly gasps and opens her eyes as she clutches her head and groans, causing Shawna, the Clefairy Ash befriended, to rush and support her as the other Clefairy and Clefable look in worry.
Shawna: Luna! Are you alright?!
Luna: Danger….. Danger is coming…..
Shawna: What?! Then… We must prepare! No danger can come to Mt. Moon-
Luna: It is not coming here, Shawna.
Shawna: Then…. Where is the danger… going?
Luna: ….The Speaker boy…

Back in Hoenn, Ash and the others, now joined by Brock, entered the Pokemon Center to see the front desk absent.
Ash: So, Brock, if you don't mind me asking, why are you in Hoenn?
Brock: Oh, I was here for a seminar on Pokemon breeding by the esteemed Professor Birch.
Gary: The Hoenn regional professor?
Brock: Yeah. He knows A LOT about Pokemon care. So, what about you, Ash? What brings you to Hoenn?
Ash: Actually, I'm on a new journey to beat this thing called the Battle Frontier. We're heading over to Lilycove for my next battle.
Brock: Lilycove? Hey, what do you know, I'm actually on my way there, too. Gotta catch a boat back home.
Cobalt: Well, talk about convenience.
Ash: You're telling me. *to Brock* So, if you're heading to the same city as us… Will you be there for my battle?
Brock: *smiles* I wouldn't dream of missing it. I've been kinda itching to see you battle again.
Green: Aw, yeah! Brock's back for a limited time! Let's go!
Serena: It's good to see your old friend join us, Ash.. But something seems missing.
Gary: Hey, yeah, now that you bring it up, Serena… Where's Nurse Joy?
Ash was surprised Brock didn't point it out first, as he was usually the first to point this sort of thing. However, the pittering of feet caught their attention as they look to see the Center's Chancey approach.
Chancey: Hello, dears. Welcome to the Pokemon Center.
Cobalt: Well, there's Chancey, but where's Joy?
Like magic, Nurse Joy came out from the same hallway Chancey came from, though something about her seemed different… Yet familiar.
Nurse Joy: Nurse Joy's currently holding a Pokemon examination.
Gary: Wait, aren't YOU Nurse Joy?
Serena: Maybe they have two?
Brock: As much as that would be a dream come true, Serena, I have to say you're wrong. I know my Joys and she ain;t one of them!
Cobalt: Ash, he's right. Her aura's not matching any of the Nurse Joy's we've met… *smirks* But she is someone we know.
Nurse Joy: Well, based on Cobalt's look, I bet he's figured it out. Guess I should've thought twice about trying to fool you.
Serena: …Ash, how did she know Cobalt's name?
Ash: *chuckles* If you are who I think you are… Off with the costumes.
The Chancey then glows before shrinking in size and transforming into a Ditto.
Ditto: Hey, guys!
Gary: Woah, it's a Ditto!
Green: Ditto! You little…. Wait…. You seem familiar. *looks to Joy* Then does that mean...?
Nurse Joy simply smirked as she ran back down the hall as another girl came up, a familiar face to Ash and Brock as the familiar girl gave off a smile.
Duplica: I remember you, you remember me… Ashy-boy?
Ash/Brock: Duplica!
Serena: Duplica?
Gary: "Ashy-boy"?
Later on, Ash and his friends sit at a table with Duplica as Cobalt and Green sit on the floor, conversing with Ditto.
Ash: Arceus, Duplica, we haven't seen you since Kanto.
Duplica: I know, I can hardly believe we ran into each other like this. But, where's Misty?
Ash: Oh, uh… She decided to go home for the time being, we actually just ran into Brock- Oh~ I almost forgot! *to Gary and Serena* Gary, Serena, this is Duplica. She's a friend of mine from my Kanto journey.
Brock: She and her Ditto are performers for the club, House Imitay.
Gary: House Imitay? I thought that place was run down.
Duplica: It was almost, until Ash and his friends came along and helped out my Ditto.
Cobalt: Been a while since we've seen you, Ditto. How've things been?
Ditto: Great. The club's getting really successful now that I can perfectly imitate Pokemon.
Green: Hey, that's great. No offense, I'm just still… Kinda salty about last time.
Serena: *whispers to Ash* Last time?
Ash: *whispers* Explain later. *to Duplica* So, what brings you to Hoenn?
Duplica: I'm gonna compete in a Pokemon acting competition. A whole bunch of the best performers'll be there.
Brock: And I guess you're here to get Ditto a physical?
Duplica: Well… Yes, but also no.
Suddenly, the sign above the door glowed as it opened, revealing Nurse Joy wheeling out a small blue Ditto.
Nurse Joy: Now, that wasn't so bad now, wasn't it?
Excited, Duplica cheered and ran to thestretcher, hugging the smaller Ditto.
Ash: Woah! You have a shiny Ditto?!
Duplica: Yep. I call this little guy here "Mini-Dit".
Cobalt: Well, it's nice to meet you, Mini-Dit.
Mini-Dit: Nice to meet you too.
Gary: So, Duplica… Why was it in the emergency room, was Mini-Dit hurt?
Duplica: No, they're just fine. It's just… I have another… situation, to say the least.

Outside, Ash and the others were at a little playground as Lucky and Grookey were seen playing with Mini-Dit.
Brock: What did you mean by "situation"?
Duplica: It'd be better if I showed you. *to Mini-Dit* Mini-Dit, Transform into Murkrow!
Mini-Dit: You got it!
With a glow, the shiny Ditto turned into another Murkrow, making Green scoff a bit.
Green: Show-off.
Duplica: Good job. Now, Transform into Grookey!
The other Murkrow nods and transforms into Grookey, making Gary's chirp in delight.
Gary: I don't get it, it transforms just fine.
Duplica: If you had a bigger Pokemon, I could show it easier.
Ash: I think I got one. *throws Pokeball* Okay, Jaws, come on out!
As the Pokeball opened, Jaws happily muched on their trainer's head as he yelled within the massive Pokemon's mouth while Cobalt and Green tried pulling him out.
Green: Dude, seriously?! Again?!
Ash: AW COME ON, JAWS! WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS! I'M NOT A SNACK!
Jaws: *laughs* Sorry~.
As Ash was pulled out, Brock and Duplica juststared in shock.
Brock: Ash… Not to offend your choice of party members… But what in Arceus's name is that thing?!
Ash: Their name's Jaws, they're a Pokemon called a Dracovish. It's one of a kind too.
Duplica: So cool…. Anyhow, Mini-Dit, transform into Dracovish!
The new Grookey nodded as it glowed, transforming into another Dracovish. However, unlike Jaws….. Mini-Dit as a Dracovish was the size of a normal Pikachu.
Serena: Aw~, how cute!
Dracovish: Cool~. There's a tiny me! *waves fin* Hi, Tiny Me!
Ash: But… That's impossible. My Pokedex says Jaws is over 7 feet tall, so why is Mini-Dit like this?
Duplica: That's the thing. Mini-Dit can transform no problem, but for some reason, they can't get any bigger than their normal height.
Brock: Huh, weird.
As Brock said this, Mini-Dit automatically grew discouraged as they reverted back to their old form with a frown.
Duplica: Yes. And this flaw manifests itself into really bad confidence issues.
Mini-Dit: I feel like such a loser….
Ditto: *comforting* Hey, hey, you're not a loser. I had a problem using Transform, too.
Cobalt: Yeah, and I had trouble learning Bone Rush when I was a Riolu. Everyone has that one thing they're bad at.
Ash: Plus, it's nothing to worry about, Duplica. Remember what you said, having a Ditto is like having every Pokemon at once.
Duplica: I guess….
Ash: You know what? I bet you're even stronger than last time. Let's have a battle, settle this thing between us.
Duplica: *confident* Yeah… Yeah, let's do it! Mini-Dit may not have much in size, but they make up in talent! In fact, let's make it a double battle!
Ash: Alright, then! Jaws, you up for a battle?
Jaws: Okay!
As Ash and Jaws step back to make room for the battle, Ditto and Mini-Dit ooze in front of Duplica as Ash throws a Pokeball into the air.
Ash: Okay, Psi, I choose you!
The Pokeball opens, revealing his Alakazam as they levitate in midair, their spoons swirling around them.
Brock: Man, haven't seen Psi in a while, and seeing I don't know much about this "Dracovish", this'll be a great match.
Gary: You have no idea.
Duplica: Okay then, Ditto, transform in Dracovish! Mini-Dit, do the same for the Alakazam!
Both Dittos nodded and shapeshifted into their respective Poekmon, leaving another Dracovish and a smaller Alakazam.
Ash: Alright, then, Duplica. You can start us off.
Duplica: With pleasure! Mini-Dit, use Psychic on Dracovish! Ditto, use….. Uh…. Use Bite!
Mini-Dit used the move just fine as they flung Jaws and Psi back a bit, but… Ditto just stood there, looking confused.
Ditto: Uh… I can't do that.
Duplica: Huh? Why aren't you attacking?
Ash: See, the thing is… Jaws doesn't know Bite.
Duplica: What?!
Gary: Since Jaws is the only existing Dracovish so far, nobody except for us knows their moveset!
Serena: That seems… Kind of unfair.
Ash: Sorry, Duplica. How about I show you how we do it. Psi, use Zen Headbutt on Dracovish! Jaws, you use Fishious Rend on Mini-Dit!
Psi's head glowed with an etherial blue as they charged forth while Jaws's fangs glowed blue as well. Psi collided with Ditto while Mini-Dit was trapped within the Fishious Rend.
Duplica: No! Okay, if Bite doesn't work, then maybe… Use Ice Fang!
Ash: Use Protect!
Psi put up a barrier just in time as Ditto tried biting down onto them with ice-covered jaws.
Ash: Alright! Now, use Dark Pulse! Jaws, use Hydro Pump!
Jaws's mouth filled with water as they fired a high-pressure blast at the Alakazam still in their clutches, sending Mini-Dit back. Though as Psi prepared their Dark Pulse, Jaws became distracted at the glow of the spoons catching their eye… and bit down onto one.
Psi: What in….
Green: What are you doing, Jaws?!
Duplica: Quick, Mini-Dit, while it's distracted! Use Zen Headbutt!
Psi: I say, let go of my spoon!
Jaws: But it's pretty~.
Ash: Jaws, let go! You're going to get hit!
Jaws was struck by the opposing Ditto's Alakazam, but kept their grip on Psi's spoon as the Alakazam began trying to create their own Zen Headbutt. However, Psi couldn't focus due to Jaws latching on their spoon.
Psi: Jaws, I am serious! Get off!
Jaws: But the thing's shiny and it tastes nice!
Psi: I cannot concentrate like this! Let go!
Duplica: Mini-Dit, use Dark Pulse! Ditto, Fishious Rend!
The assault continued while as Cobalt watches, he spots some sort of blurred figure, levitating and watching from behind the tree. Ordinarily, the creature was invisible, but Cobalt could see it due to his aura vision.
Cobalt: Huh?
As Psi tries to make Jaws let go, they fail to notice their spoons gaining a magenta glow as Psi's eyes gave off the same colored glow.
Psi: I… said… LET GO!
As Psi yelled, a pink and magenta bubble surrounded both them and Jaws and grew before bursting, send9ing Jaws and both Dittos back and on the ground. Ash uncovered his eyes to see some kind of faint shape next to a tree, which was about to fall due to it being weakened from Psi's attack.
Ash: *runs* LOOK OUT!
The mysterious creature hasped as Ash pushed it out of the way just as the tree fell over. The creature fizzles back into view and rubs its head before looking at Ash.
Ash: That was close. Are you alright?
It gasps as it floats off, turning invisible before Ash could give chase.
Brock: What happened?
Ash: I don't know. That move Psi used unearthed the tree a bit and was about to crush that Pokemon, but it floated off and turned invisible before I could get their name.
Duplica: Speaking of that move, what was that?
Gary: I read about it. It's a move called "Expanding Force".
Ash: *checks Pokedex* Expanding Force?
Pokedex: Expanding Force, a Psychic type move. A powerful burst of Psychic energy is used against the single opponent. When Psychic Terrain is active, this move's power is boosted and it damages all opposing Pokémon.
Gary: Well, it's cool Psi learned a new move, but here's the thing that has me concerned.
Serena: What's that, Gary?
Gary: Psi's Expanding Force hit both Ditto and Mini-Dit, alongside Jaws. But it only its more than on target when Psychic Terrain is up.
Ash: But Psi doesn't know Psychic Terrain.
Green: How is this possible?
Psi: It…. It should not….
Duplica: So, should we consider this a draw, or-
Suddenly, a net from off-screen springs forth and wraps around both Dittos, reeling back up the roof of a building.
Ditto: Woah!
Mini-Dit: What's happening?!
Duplica: Ditto! Mini-Dit!
Serena: Who's doing this?
Brock: I think I have an idea.
From above, the three familiar figures of Cassidy, Butch, and Sableye jumped down, smirked evilly as Bitch held the net.
Cassidy: Prepare for trouble...
Butch: ...and make it double!
Both: Here's our mission, so you better listen!
Cassidy: To infect the world with devastation!
Butch: To blight the people in every nation!
Cassidy: To denounce the goodness of truth and love!
Butch: To extend our wrath to the stars above!
Cassidy: Cassidy!
Butch: And Butch, of course!
Cassidy: Team Rocket, circling the Earth all day and night!
Butch: Surrender now for you will surely lose the fight!
Sableye: Got that right!
Ash: Team Rocket. Why am I not surprised?
Duplica: Huh? But these aren;t the Team Rocket guys I seen before.
Sableye: Good thing, cus lemme tell ya, sweet cheeks. We're new and improved.
Cassidy: We were just here to pick up another essential for our ploy, but some Ditto for the boss would do nicely.
Ash: Oh no you won't! Jaws, Hydro Pump!
The Dracovish unleashed a large jet of water that collided with Butch and sent him into the wall, dropping the net as Green quickly ran up and grabbed it before shoving Sableye aside.
Duplica: My Dittos!
Cassidy: *growls* We'll teach you to mess with Team Rcoet, you little brats.
Butch: Yeah! These uniforms are dry clean only!
Cassidy pressed the button on her pager, summoning a Corvikight that flies down and drops off the Rocket Prize Master and just as it flies off, Sableye does his thing and ejects two Pokeballs from the machine, which are nabbed by the humans.
Cassidy: Now you're all in trouble. Since I got…
Cassidy's Pokeball opens, revealing a squad of six round Pokemon with yellow helmets and red horns atop their black bodies and shields stuck to their sides.
Cassidy: The Formation Pokemon, Falinks!
Butch: And now, for me!
Butch's Pokeball opened, revealing a rock with a pair of tentacle-like arms and hands coming forth, two angry faces on the palms.
Butch: The Two-Handed Pokemon, Binacle!
Gary: Take any Pokemon you want, we outnumber you 5 to 2!
Cassidy: Oh, really? Faliks, surround them!
The small parade surprised the group by separating, surrounding the group and threatening them with their horns.
Brock: What the-?!
Serena: *takes out Pokedex* What are these things?!
Pokedex: Falinks, the Formation Pokémon. A Fighting type. The six Pokemon that make up Falinks rely on teamwork as their strategy to win battles, and constantly change formation when they fight. The leader is known as the Brass, while the followers are called Troopers.
Green: So, it's 6 Pokemon in 1? That doesn't seem fair.
Sableye: Eh, we're bad guys. Whatdya expect?
Cassidy: Alright, all of you Falinks, use Megahorn! Sableye, you get in there too and use Shadow Claw!
Butch: Binacle, X-Scissor attack!
All of the opposing Pokemon lunged forward, ready to strike as Ash stood his ground.
Ash: Everyone, focus on Countering while Psi gets that net open! Cobalt, Bullet Punch! Green, Leap Blade!
Gary: You got it, Ashy Boy. Alright, Grookey, use Branch Poke!
Serena: *throws Pokeball* Lucky, Drill Peck!
Brock: *throws Pokeball* Iron-Shell, use Rapid Spin!
As Serena's Murkrow and Brock's now nicknames Forretress pop out, both of them, Grookey, Cobalt, and Green begin smacking away each of the Pokemon that lunged forward and tried to overwhelm them.
Cassidy: Keep up the assault!
Butch: Don't stop until they're down!
Cobalt: Hey, guys? *uses Bullet Punch* Not trying to get us down, but- *uses Bullet Punch* we can't keep this up forever!
Lucky: He's right! *uses Drill Peck* We're about to get overwhelmed!
Green: Psi! How much longer?!
Psi: I just need one last minute!
Ditto: From the look of things, we don't have another minute!
Ash looked around, trying to think of something, but their attacks could only hit one of them at a time and their special attacks would take too much time and leave them vulnerable. If only they had a way to hit them all at on-
Ash: That's it! Psi, use Expanding Force!
Getting the idea, the Alakazam nods and begins charging up another bubble before growing and detonating it, not only making the opposing Pokemon get sent flying back, but also ripping open the net containing the Dittos, which leapt into Duplica's arms.
Duplica: *laughs* I was so worried!
Psi then got on one knee and panted, clutching their head in exhaustion. Jaws looked back as Green helped them up.
Green: You okay, dude?
Psi: I will live….
Seeing their friend near unconsciousness, Jaws started getting serious and faced the enemy, a blue aura surrounding their body.
Serena: What's happening?
Brock: Jaws must be building up their energy!
Butch: We'll show you! Binacle, use Cross Chop!
Ash: Jaws, counter with Fishious Rend!
Both Pokemon charged, however instead of Jaws's mouth glowing, a blue aura surrounded Jaws as they ran, which morphed into the shape of a dragon. Ash, Brock, and his Pokemon watched in awe as the two collided, sending Binacle.
Brock: Woah…
Ash: Was that-?
Green: Yeah, tha… That was my move! That was Dragon Rush!
Ash: Alright! Now let's finish it. Duplica?
Duplica: *nods* Hmph. Ditto, Mini-Dit, Transform into Cobalt!
Both Dittos nodded and transformed, with Mini-Dit transformng into a miniature Lucario.
Ash/Duplica: Aura Bullet!/Double Aura Sphere!
Cobalt used Aura Sphere on his Aura Sphere to make it rocket forward as the Dittos fired their Aura Spheres. The three attacks combined into a larger Aura Sphere that exploded on impact, only to reveal the Rcokets were gone as the smoke settled.
Cobalt: They got away again…
Green: Maybe, but at least we saved Ditto and Mini-Dit.
Brock: Man, even though Mni-Dit's smaller, they sure pack a whallop.
Duplica: Got that right. Hm… You know what, Brock? I think I have an idea.

Later on in town square, a crowd gathered to see Duplica and Mini-Dit as the smaller shiny Ditto sat on a table.
Duplica: Come one, come all! See the amazing Mini-Dit, who can transform into any Pokemon, junior sized!
Trainer: Oh, really? How about my Swampert?
Duplica: Mini-Dit?
Mini-Dit nodded and glowed as they mirphed into a smaller Swampert, making the trainer and crowd look on in amazement as the actual Swampert looked at them.
Swampert: Hehe…. Cool.
As the crowd cheers, Ash and his friends watch from the sidelines, smiling at the sight.
Serena: They really do love Mini-Dit, huh?
Green: I guess even the most unexpected Pokemon can do some great stuff.
Cobalt: Like Jaws did by going in clutch with Dragon Rush earlier?
Green: ….Sure.
Psi: I admit… You were impressive on the battlefield. And I suppose without you, I would not have learned Expanding Force.
The Dracovish gasped and joyfully cheered as they bit down on Psi's spoon. Instead of fighting back, Psi simply rolled their eyes and smiled.
