Alice hid in the ruined remains of an abandoned building in Indianapolis. She had been there ever since the fighting reached the city. The 10 year old girl was unprepared for this level of danger. While yes she was used to the accessional gang activity that was prevalent in every city, full out warfare in the streets was new. And the little girl had no clue that was happening as she was just trying to get home. However a lumbering figure in some sort of armor walked in and noticed her immediately due to Alice's natural red hair. Then the figure knelt down and took off its helmet, revealing an normal person inside.

"Hey kid. My name is Kirt Smith and I am a Heavy Trooper Private with the Enclave. Are you lost?" The armored figure asked.

"Y-y-yes, I am. You're not here to kill me are you?" Alice asked.

"No I am not. Right now my only concern is getting you back to your parents. This area is an active combat zone and you should not be here."

"I was trying to go home but then the fighting happened."

"And you decided to hide rather than risk getting killed. Honestly that makes sense. Could you tell me your name?"

"It's Alice."

"Ok Alice. Whatever happens, I will make sure I will get you back to your family. How close do you live from here?"

"I live off 63rd st."

"Kid that's all the way in Broad Ripple, we are North East in Castleton. Your parents are behind enemy lines."

"You guys will eventually take that part of the city, yes?"

"Eventually. The plan is to cut most of the city off from the NUSA by encircling it. That way when we do push in the supplies they have now are all that they will ever have as Urban warfare is a nightmare."

"You have to save them."

"Fine, lets go." Kirt said knowing full well that he was going to get a reaming should he survive this. So he stocked up on equipment and fallowed the girl behind enemy lines to her place.

"Mom! I'm home!" Alice said as they walked in, running into her mother's arms.

"Where have you been? I missed you!" Her mother asked.

"I was stuck in Castleton but this soldier risked his life to bring me home."

The mother looked up to see Kirt as he took off his helmet. "You're with the Free States aren't you?" She asked in a slightly hostile tone.

"Close, Enclave. However I am not here to hurt you. The Enclave is here to restore the American Republic and crush the pretenders that defile everything that this country stands for."

She looks around her one room slum, sighs and then speaks again. "My daughter is all I have. Her father works 70 hr work weeks just to pay for this place and it's a shit hole."

"That is no life. Not for anyone. It won't be long before this area becomes a combat zone. It's best that you and your daughter leave. If you can convince anyone else that's still here to leave also."

"But where will we go?"

"There are refugee camps set up in Michigan to take care of both locals who were displaced when we took Flint and Detroit and people who were displaced when we took Gary in Chicago. They will be able to take you until we set up more in Indiana allowing you to return home."

"That's a long walk."

"You should be able to hitch a ride on a medical transport that's moving wounded like all of the other refugees. They are not allowed to say no."

"If this is our only option then, I guess I will take my daughter, meet up with my husband and be on our way."

"It will be for the best."
