Chapter 08: The Next Day!
Erin was laying in the hospital bed after everyone had left because visiting hours were over. The only one who stayed a bit longer was Kelly, who promised to come back in the morning if he wasn't called on a call.
The brunette gazed out the window, trying to clear her head from everything that had happened. It had been six hours since Kelly had left, and she felt alone.
She reached for the remote to turn on the TV, and as she flipped through channels, she stopped when she saw the news playing. Her heart sank when she heard her name being mentioned on the news.
'The female detective who was shot and attacked two and a half weeks ago is now awake. Will she finally reveal what happened?' the news reporter announced, glancing at the paper in her hand.
"Will she help catch the man attacking these innocent women at night?" The news reporter replied, Erin swallowed nervously as she turned off the TV, hoping her attacker wasn't watching the news because she didn't know what he would do if he found out she had spoken up.
Erin knew she didn't want anyone else to get hurt, so she decided to stay quiet for a while, hoping the news hadn't reached her attacker yet. As she heard the door open, Erin looked up and saw that Maggie had entered the room.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Maggie asked as she walked over to check on Erin. Erin shrugged, saying, "It would be better if I could go back home."
Maggie chuckled a bit as she checked Erin's vitals. "You'll be able to go home once we get you up and moving. Your body needs to adjust to moving around since you've been out for the past 2 weeks.
Erin gave a little nod with a frown. 'So, how long till I can get out of here?' She didn't want to hang around if she could just be up and about at home.
'About two or three days, or maybe sooner once you're steady on your feet. You're pretty much healed up, we just want to make sure you're strong,' Maggie explained.
Erin nodded, thinking she must be mostly healed after being out for two weeks, but knowing she needed to build up strength still.
'Everything's looking good, and we'll start getting you up and about tomorrow,' Maggie said after finishing checking Erin's breathing.
'Sounds good,' Erin said, smiling as Maggie tucked her in a bit more. 'Do you want Kelly or Voight to help you tomorrow? They can give you a hand moving about,' Maggie suggested.
Erin was thinking if she wanted anyone's help getting back on her feet, but she didn't want them to see her as weak or treat her differently. She shook her head and said, 'No, I'll be fine doing this on my own.'
Maggie then noted the time for their meeting and said, 'Alright, I'll be here with Dr. Manning at ten in the morning to start. If you change your mind, just let me know, and I'll talk to Kelly and Voight.' Erin agreed as she saw Maggie walk out, turning off the lights so she could sleep.
《 With Erin's Attacker》
Watching the news with a beer in hand, the guy couldn't help but smirk as the reporter mentioned the brunette he had fun with a couple of weeks ago.
'So, you're alive, huh?' he joked, pausing the TV on Erin's picture, finding himself liking his lips as he gazed at her.
'I kinda wanna have fun with you again, but gotta come up with a plan first,' he chuckled. Annoyed when his brother called down to the basement, he rolled his eyes, telling Murphy it was his turn for a shower.
'Alright, I'll get one soon, thanks Mark!' Murphy shouted back. As soon as the door closed, he shifted his hands to his pants, getting lost in the picture of Erin.
'Now I know your name, gorgeous. Time to look you up and find out everything about you,' Murphy said, grinning mischievously.
《 With Kelly》
Kelly showed up at Station 51 the next day already annoyed that he had to go in before seeing Erin. But Boden had assured him It was just a quick meeting so he could check on the brunette in an hour, making the situation slightly better. As he entered the meeting room, he spotted Joe and Otis chatting with Hermann.
'Morning Kelly,' his best friend Casey greeted him with a coffee in hand. 'Hey,' Kelly replied, taking the cup. Hermann also approached them, asking about Erin's condition. Kelly updated them, expressing his concern about not visiting her yet and hoping she wouldn't be upset with him.
"When Erin's out of that hospital, she'll be good to go. I'll swing by later to drop off something for her from Cindy."
Kelly flashed a smile, "I'm sure Erin would love the visit." He paused as Boden entered the office and started briefing them on the new recruits coming in a few days.
"Squad three will have a new member soon. Treat them like family, guys," Boden looked around, knowing their dynamic, especially with Mills. Kelly reassured, "We got this. Anything else on the agenda?" He was eager to wrap things up so he could head to Med to check on Erin, glancing at the time showing it was about 9 in the morning.
Boden declined any further requests, "Nah, everyone should be here. I know you're itching to go see detective Lindsay," he teased, Kelly nodded. "Go on, but keep your radio handy.
Kelly gave a nod. 'Don't worry, I'll be here whenever we have a call, I just wanna visit Erin so she's not alone,' he said. Boden also nodded. 'We know, now go and tell Lindsay we all say hi and that we hope she gets better,' Otis said.
'Lindsay is part of the family and a really good friend, so once she's out of the hospital, we'll have a big party at Molly's,' Gabby said while sitting with Casey.
'Plus, I don't think District 21 can handle themselves,' Mouch joked, making everyone laugh. Kelly chuckled. 'I'm sure once Erin is back, she'll probably put them in their place soon,' Gabby joked as Kelly walked out of the station towards the hospital after getting a text from Antonio that Voight was at Med with Erin now.
