Glinda slowly moved through the charred black hallway of the Emerald City palace, where a massive battle had just taken place. Moments earlier, she had been conversing with several palace servants when a piercing cackle echoed throughout the hallway. As she spoke in mid-sentence, the lights from the nearby gas lanterns went out as the area became pitch black. Suddenly, a huge burst of flame flew through the air and went straight towards her. Without thinking or even contemplating who was attacking her, the good witch immediately raised her wand and blocked the fireball. Several more were generated in quick succession and each of them was hurled towards Glinda.

Even though it was a bright afternoon in Oz, this particular hallway was in an interior corridor of the palace and had no windows. Consequently, the only thing Glinda saw were the fireballs and the only thing she now heard behind her were the screams of the palace servants she had been conversing with moments earlier.

Despite the pandemonium, Glinda quickly and successful blocked all of the fireballs with her wand. But whoever was attacking her was relentless. The creature continued to cackle nefariously as it generated fireballs with its hand, lunging them aggressively at Glinda. A feint blue light emanated from Glinda's wand as her magic continued to absorb the fireballs. "Get the children to safety!", the good witch screamed at the palace servants who were cowering behind her. The group began to slowly retreat into the interior of the hallway. As they passed a pair of thick double doors, Glinda swiftly used her wand to shut the hallway door and used further enchantments to strengthen its lock.

Everything became eerily quiet. "Go", Glinda told the terrified palace servants. "Get the children to safety", she repeated to them. As there was now only one way to escape, the palace servants ran away from Glinda as the witch kept an eye on the locked door. As their terrified voices grew more distant, a deafening silence permeated the hallway once more. And it was so dark that the only thing keeping Glinda from seeing her own two hands was the feint light emanating from her wand.

There was then a loud banging on the door. Whoever had attacked Glinda was forcefully trying to bash the thick double doors open. The noise was so loud and its power so incredibly strong that dents and cracks were starting to show on Glinda's side of the door. BANG! BANG! BANG!

For the first time in her life, Glinda was incredibly frightened. She took off and started to run away from the thick double doors, her eyes wide with fear and her heart pounding in her chest. She didn't get far when she heard the double doors slowly start to creak open. She stopped and held her breath. The creaking sound was distant, as Glinda had turned several corners. It was still pitch black and the witch tried to remember which way to go. She was now lost.

Her hands continued to tremble with fear as the witch slowly and carefully began to tip toe in the darkness.

She stopped as the back of her hairs stood on her neck. The good witch started to experience goosebumps and a tingling sensation near her spine. She now heard heavy breathing behind her and a low, terrifying growl. Glinda's eyes were wide with panic. She slowly and slightly turned her head. Her hands continued to tremble as she tightly held her wand. She was prepared to do battle once more.

Suddenly, she heard a loud thud as the nearby hallway lanterns became ablaze once more. The good witch turned around fully and she saw her mother, Queen Lurline. Glinda then looked down. Lying unconscious and face down on the plush palace carpet was a green skinned witch who wore a black corset dress and a large pointy black hat. It was Theodora, but the good witch could barely recognize her.

Queen Lurline gazed at her daughter. "Now you know why we must keep her locked up. We must protect the land and your little sister from herself. She must never again leave her bedroom."
