After the incident with Gryffindor and Slytherin quidditch teams Ron had to serve a weeks detention and Rose had been taking a lot of verbal abuse from Malfoy. He was still mad that Rose was supposedly not taking her position on the team seriously.
After the incident Professor McGonagall had made sure the two teams' practices did not overlap. It seemed like the school would continue like normal for a while and so no one could have predicted what happened just a few months into term.
Rose and Harry had been meeting in the library to catch up and do homework together, sometimes joined by Capella who was actually quite helpful in raising the Potters History of magic grade since she had been taught more than just goblin rebellions, which professor Binns seemed to be stuck on.
It was in one of these sessions that Harry suddenly froze his face a picture of horror. Daphne who had joined them, wanting to get to know Rose's friends more, was un surprisingly the first to notice Harry's demeanour change.
"Harry? What is wrong? You look really pale."
Harry, who was still fixated on whatever it was that was troubling him, was not paying attention and Rose, who had heard Daphne was starting to worry. Harry seemed to finally realise that he was being spoken to and looked at Rose and Daphne confusion clear on his face.
"Did you not hear that voice it was .. Creepy" Harry asked after a few moments trying to understand the situation.
"Harry what voice did you hear? I didn't hear anything" Rose answered looking at Daphne who confirmed she too had not heard a thing.
"But it was so loud, how did you not hear it? It was saying it was going to rip and tear it was eerie"
The look on Harry's face told Rose and Daphne that this was indeed serious and that he had indeed heard something that they had not heard.
"Harry, I don't think you should be telling everyone about this. A voice only you can hear is not a good sign"
Daphne told him to try to be diplomatic in the face of the problem, in true Slytherin fashion. Rose, who had not thought much about this, considered what her friend had said to Harry. She really felt like Harry should tell someone but who would listen, Dumbledore? No Sirius would be better.
"Perhaps we can tell someone. I think that Sirius would listen and take this seriously." Rose told Harry who did not know how to respond he was still trying to process what he had heard and trying to work out why no one else would have heard it too.
Not knowing what else to do in this situation Harry agreed and pulled out a small mirror. Daphne who had not yet seen this mirror was looking at Harry a little confused, even more so when he spoke Sirius' name into it.
Sirius who had yet to go back to work or decide what he wanted to do now he was a free man always had his mirror by his side hoping to hear from his daughter or one of his godchildren. Even though Rose was not technically his Godchild he considered her so and loved to hear from her as much as Capella.
"Harry so good to see you,'' he announced loudly and enthusiastically.
"Sirius we have a bit of an incident here" Rose announced, trying to temper his enthusiasm.
"Ah Rose should have known you were there too. What has you so worried?" Sirius asked, sounding less enthusiastic and oddly serious for a change.
It was a moment before anyone spoke and Sirius was seriously starting to consider the mirror was malfunctioning.
"Hello?" He asked uncertainty.
"What do you know about hearing voices that no one else can hear Sirius?" Harry asked quietly into his mirror hoping no one around was listening into the conversation. Sirius, who had not been expecting anything like this, froze for a moment before looking at Harry with a concerned look.
"Well It has happened before, though not too often I must admit. There are only a few real reasons why you would be hearing a voice no one can hear one way that I know of is legilimency. It is the art of breaking into someone's mind and can be used to leave an imprinted message if the user is skilled enough. Fortunately the skill is very hard to learn and not many at the school would be able to do such a thing. Was there anyone suspicious around you when it happened?"
"We are in the library. There are a few people around but most are students" Daphne offered, causing Rose to laugh out loud.
"Trust you to know something like that Daph."
"Well if you are surrounded by students I doubt any of them would have the skills needed for such a task like I said it is exceptionally hard. I will have to think about this some more, Harry. I will look in my personal library at home. It is rather in depth. Please tell me if you hear the voice again Harry"
This answer did not make Harry feel much better about hearing this mysterious voice but he was glad that Sirius was taking his concern seriously. Deciding that he needed to clear his head, Harry went back to his common room.
"What do you know about hearing voices, Daphne? Your family is kinda good with this stuff right?" Rose asked once Harry had left.
"My mom may know some things but she would not really like to be asked if she has worked hard to escape her past. If possible I would like to refrain from asking her."
"I understand I would never make you ask if it was going to make her uncomfortable." Deciding that they could not help the situation with the knowledge that they had now Rose was determined to change the topic.
"Hey, help me with this potion. It keeps turning red, not pink." Rose announced to Daphne out of the blue.
The two girls continued their studies completely unaware of what had developed a few floors down, though they would soon find out.
The next morning the entire school was a buzz talking about the chamber of secrets. Completely confused Rose pulled one of her school year students aside to question her. What she was told sent a shiver up her spine.
That day no one was paying any attention in classes and the Professors were deducting points left, right and centre trying to get the children back on the subject. By the time History of magic rolled around Hermione had seemingly had enough of not knowing about the chamber and her need to know things made her ask Professor Binns about the chamber.
Even after Professor Binns explanation Rose did not feel like she understood what was going on any better. The fact that there was supposedly no hard evidence to support this chamber made Rose think it was maybe a hoax but seeing the reactions of the teachers told her otherwise.
That night the library was full of students crawling over each other to find books with even a mention of the elusive chamber. Seeing just how many people were in there Rose decided to take a rain check on visiting it.
Deciding that she wanted a quiet place to study, Rose went to her bedroom. She was joined sometime later by Capella who was holding her mirror.
"Want to hear what Dad has to say about the chamber. It has him all in a tither."
"Ohh I didn't think of asking him about it. Is he on the mirror right now?"
"You didn't forget about me did you Rose" Sirius asked in a joyful tone and it was clear he was enjoying himself.
"How could I forget you uncle Sirius." Rose replied in a deadpan voice trying to add her own humour to the situation.
Sirius seemed to see the humour because he started laughing for a moment. A short cough from Capella reminded them that they were talking about something serious.
"Right, sorry." Sirius replied, returning to the topic at hand.
"I don't know what they are telling you at the school but what they are probably not telling you is that the chamber has been opened at least once before around 50 years ago. Despite what the Ministry believed the culprit was never actually caught, whoever was responsible framed a student and closed the chamber. I want you to be very careful at school this year. Last time it was opened a Student was killed."
The tone Sirius was using left no doubt that what he was telling them was the truth and was not to be taken lightly. Capella leaned into Rose feeling the need for some comfort. Despite the situation it made Sirius smile to see Rose looking after Capella like a sister would.
"Who did they think opened it last time Uncle Sirius?" Rose Asked her curiosity peaked.
"I'd rather not say right now. All you need to know is that the person is innocent and the real culprit was not found." Sirius responded a little cryptically.
Rose, seeing this as the dismissive statement it was, did not question it again.
For a little while Rose and Capella enjoyed some lighter conversation with Sirius. He seemed particularly interested in whether or not the girls had done any pranking yet to which Rose had answered she hadn't been pranking and Capella stated she had only done a few minor pranks to test the waters.
That night Capella spent the night in Rose's bed not wanting to go back to hers after spending the night talking with Sirius and gossiping with Rose.
After the attack on Fiches cat and the writing on the wall stating the chamber had been opened the entire school was on high alert. Many students were jumping at their own shadows and refusing to travel around if they were not in groups with their friends.
The upcoming game of quidditch was a distraction that many of the students and staff needed. So far nothing had happened regarding the chamber and that had people more concerned than if something had happened.
The game in question would be Slytherin vs Gryffindor and Rose would be sitting in the wings just in case one of their team was injured. The game was brutal with Slytherin doing anything they could to unseat members of the opposite team.
After a gruelling half hour of play one of the bludgers started acting unusual. It looked to Rose like it was only targeting her brother. Rose watched with horror as the bludger followed close to him forcing him to perform some pretty advanced moves to avoid being hit. It was one of these moments manoeuvres that Harry saw an opportunity to put his sister in the game, purposefully flying by a Slytherin chaser the following bludger didn't have time to change course and hit the chaser just as Harry planned.
Despite Flint being the captain the appearance of Rose in the air reduced the amount of foul play that the Slytherins could engage in, Rose flat out refused to play anything but fair.
With the game becoming more fair several people in the stands were enjoying the game more. The competition actually got harder for the Gryffindor's who were so used to Slytherin being aggressive that they had no strategies to counter the skill Rose and her fellow chasers were now employing.
Unfortunately this did not help Harry and Rose who now had to focus on the game was unable to help him. Fortunately Harry was a good flier and he managed to avoid the rogue bludger. Rose was managing to score goals bringing Slytherin close to Gryffindor's score; it all came down to who caught the snitch really.
The game ended with Harry catching the snitch after successfully feinting Malfoy and causing him to fall off of his broom and even though they did not win Rose felt great about her first game played that was until Rose found out that Harry had been "fixed" by Lockhart and was now on his way to the hospital wing.
While Rose was sleeping in bed that night she had no idea what was happening to Harry in the hospital wing. That was until she was rudely awoken by Harry yelling her name through his mirror.
"Harry it's" Rose started before stopping realising she didn't actually know how late it was. "It's late, what's up?"
"I'm sorry I just needed to speak to you. Rose, I heard that voice again. After I did the teachers brought Colin into the hospital wing, you know the boy that won't leave me alone? They said he had been petrified."
"Harry, that is a lot to take in, slow down a second. How did a student get petrified? And why did that happen after you heard a voice? You think they are related?"
"I think they might be the voice was talking about ripping and tearing again and then someone turns up after an attack"
Rose couldn't help but consider the information provided. It was a scary thing to think about and Rose wished she could get some hugs right now.
"That's not all that happened. That elf, Dobby, came to visit me in the hospital wing. He was the one that set a bludger on me. I think the elf thinks I may be at risk. He was trying to get me injured enough to get sent home"
"You think that whatever is attacking students will attack you? Isn't the rumour that it only attacks muggle borns?"
"I don't know anything more than you Sis. I just needed to tell someone." Harry said, looking at Rose and seeing her worry.
"You know Sirius will want to hear about this, why don't you call him and then head to bed. We can come back to this tomorrow with a fresh head and hopefully pick up something we missed."
Not having any argument to Rose's sound logic Harry ended the Mirror call and Rose was left looking at herself.
"Urgh I have such bad bed head" She said to no one in particular before falling into an uneasy sleep.
When Rose woke up the next morning Capella was sitting on Rose's bed dressed in her school uniform and clearly waiting for Rose to wake up. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes Rose lifted herself up.
"Capella not that I don't like seeing you but what are you doing in here?"
"Daddy is in the school. He wants to see me, you and Harry. I told him I would wake you up since I'm a girl and can enter here freely."
"Oh. Do I have time to shower?" Rose asked, still trying to wake herself up.
"Mhm I don't see why not I will wait here for you"
After grabbing her shower bag Rose left Capella alone and went to clean up, one quick shower later and Rose was back with Capella.
"Dry my hair for me?"
Capella smiled and pulled out her wand. "You know this spell isn't hard to learn"
"I know I just like you doing it. It feels different, nice." Rose replied with a cheeky grin as she slipped her feet into her school shoes.
Accepting this statement Capella finished drying Rose's hair and handed her the usual red headband that she wore. After putting the aforementioned headband on Rose stood up and took Capella's hand and started to leave to meet Sirius.
Harry and Sirius were waiting for Rose and Capella in Professor McGonagall's office. Sirius must have told Capella this via the mirror because she led Rose there with no detours.
"Nice of you to join us girls" Sirius jokingly commented as they arrived, looking at his watch for extra effect.
"Rose looked like she was enjoying her sleep. I didn't want to wake her up" Capella responded, making Rose wonder just how long Capella had been watching her sleep.
"Well we are here now and I for one am curious why we are here instead of the great hall" Rose told the room at large.
"Well After speaking with Harry at one in the morning, thank you for that by the way Rose, I felt we needed to meet and talk about what Harry told me."
"You don't want to know what he was doing" Harry offhandedly commented before he could think about what he had said. At this Sirius blushed a little and started laughing.
"Not the time Harry" Sirius said once he recovered from laughter.
Capella and Rose looked at each other confused. It was clear neither knew what Sirius had been up to and both were curious.
"Back to the topic at hand. I did some research like I promised but I must say I have been coming up blank. I can't seem to find anything that would explain the voices Harry has been hearing. While I am not a huge fan of Albus I thought it was time we told him too."
"Why don't you like Professor Dumbledore Daddy?" Capella asked, ignoring the bigger problem.
"That is a conversation for another time. The professor will be arriving soon."
As if he had been summoned by his name being spoken Albus Dumbledore entered the room and after looking around the room to see who was gathered he summoned a plush chair with his wand.
"Do you think Capella and Rose need to be here, Sirius." He asked in a manner that made it clear he did not think they should be present.
"I think all things considered, all those that are going to be close to Harry should know about this" Sirius replied, leaving the unsaid perfectly clear for Dumbledore to ascertain.
"Sirius" Dumbledore said in a warning tone. This caused Sirius to stiffen in his seat looking like he was ready for a verbal battle. Dumbledore must have seen this too because he turned to Harry and started speaking.
"Harry please can you tell me from the start the events that have brought us here"
Upon hearing Dumbledore's request Harry looked to Sirius who nodded his head indicating Harry should tell the headmaster. What followed was a long conversation where Harry told Dumbledore about the elf and the voice. Dumbledore for his part sat impassively if he was feeling anything from hearing the news he was not letting on.
Once Harry had finished telling the headmaster everything Dumbledore stood up and started to leave the room. Just as he was out of the door he turned back round.
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention" With a swish of his cloak Dumbledore was gone leaving the students in the room completely baffled.
"Did he believe Harry?" Rose asked after a few moments of silence. Sirius, who seemed pretty annoyed by the reaction, turned to face Rose.
"He most certainly did. He does that" Sirius said as though this was all the explanation that was needed.
"So what happens now Sirius?" Harry asked, still feeling confused by the headmaster's reaction.
"For now all we can do Is monitor the situation. As much as I hate to say this, we just don't have enough information to move forward in any meaningful way. I want you to look after each other and keep an eye out while you're learning. If you see anything odd let me know."
Upon hearing this from her Dad Capella spoke up.
"How about the fact that the Defence Against the Dark arts teacher here is completely useless Dad."
"I've spoken to Albus about that already. Apparently he was the only one who would take the job" Sirius replied.
There was silence for a few moments as the group thought about something else to bring up. Sirius, seeing that nothing important was left, sent the Student to their lessons.
