The Almost kiss, That moment after Jim That pissed us all off, followed by Max kissing someone else so Zoe was jealous back, Things are different here as this is a what if. The what if question or Questions this story will ask are, What if Max didn't pick flight while in shy panic,and what if the following stops on the time travel adventure where different. Those are our questions, so let us see what happens when we apply those things to this story.
Within the Backlander time seemed to slow down, even though as they were traveling through time, one could say no time was passing, despite motion. This was the moment Rex was stunned watching Zoe lean in Max was red panicking. Ursula looked on curious hoping the boy would jump and her rival would be shamed and embarrassed. Zander was wishing Reese was more like Zoe, Ed didn't care nor did Doctor Z. Watching this but no one knew about Max, the standard thoughts of what if we lose her wasn't happening right now, Risking a friendship for happiness was not something to be scared of he knew that. He also knew if he never tried he would regret it deeply. Max was socially awkward as he was on the Autistic spectrum some where, he had emotions probably to too much end, So could he blow it by going in and over reacting, or would avoiding it be the over reaction? This was the question Was he ready? Was he not? And how do act on either without overreacting and making an ass of himself. The mental coin flipped and unlike in Canon it didn't land on tails. He dove forward to it, holding her hands and putting his lips on her's.
Rex gasped in shock as did Ursula. The older woman gasped too as the woman was having a boyfriend before her, She was going to be a Christmas cake for life. Rex was gasping as yes he had a crush on Zoe, yet looking now he had to wonder is this should have happened? Rex came From the future while the shock kept it at bay this made him wonder, He shouldn't even know Zoe , let alone have feelings for her. She should just be a nameless dead woman to him. His heart was doomed to break by that logic, same as Zander. The two of them were doomed to heartbreak and sadness as they didn't belong here and as such the Drake Sisters were people they were never meant to meet. Meaning if Seth didn't take his parents time traveling RV, would Max and Zoe have been a couple all along without him third wheeling it? He had to guess yes, That time was repairing itself from the damage Seth made by making all this happen. Time was just going to forget him and move on with out him. Needless to say Rex's gasp had more meaning to it.
Now zoe's reaction she was wide eyed blushing as Max kissed her looking into her eyes deeply. She was red stunned and stiff from it. His lips thanks to adventure where a bit dry and well the taste of cooked on fire salvaged food, but her lips were in the same state old world funk. She buried that thought that she probably had bad breath in her first kiss, as well, he didn't seem to mind their current state thanks to this, so she won't mind it either. After all the off putting factors where the same for her and it would be hypocritical.
Processing the negatives she felt are a temporary thing she now focused on the positives, She felt like she was being shocked in a good way, blushing looking into those deep eyes, filled with love affection, wanting her to stand beside her as an equal, everything a man of Jim's age won't be. Unlike her other crushes for clear reasons Max was able to return affection and he did. She liked this and well now that she had caught the boy she didn't know what to do. Mentally she wasn't too ready for this and could only blush happily. Soon the new found shyness slowly took over making her turn red and close her eyes. Returned affect made her personality do a one eighty. She liked it ,she did. She was mentally waving arms around freaking out about her first kiss and eeping. She still returned kiss. This made Max's arms wrap around her.
her hands went to his shoulders holding them, feeling them oddly broad under that jacket, and she wanted to be closer, she did. She removed that belly bag a stupid thing, but she knew Max's grandpa owned it and the man was gone so the time she removed she just held so she could get closer, knowing this item was currently an emotional stabilizing thing. She closed her eyes tight realizing what she just did without thinking. Max's hips left to her hips holding them tightly. Like in the movies. She moved her head to deepen the kiss.
Max was shocked everything he did he was doing for movie, Like Zoe he made a mental note that currently both of them didn't have the best breath , they would both take a break to at least use mouth wash before the next one he hoped, there was a next one at least as he liked this. Zoe was wiggling happily in his arms trying to get close as she could. That had to be a good sign, he saw her blush closing her eyes, he did it closing his eyes. Mental Max had instincts triggering, his nervousness around his crush and not knowing how to act was shutting down as he had her. The thought that took most of his brain power was leaving rerouting that power to other things, I repeat, Max's brain was rebooting and finally getting some powers. Right now it told him to hold her close as possible to enjoy the moment before they set out to handle this problem and save their parents to then stand beside eachother through life which by now they knew could throw anything at them. After all they had their first kiss on a time machine with Dinosaurs after fighting pirates, and aliens in the past. A unicorn, a demon and a ghost won't be too shocking at this point.
Ursula was staring jealous, She hadn't had one date, her standards apparently too high, yet this little witch was kissing, having her first kiss before her. To say the younger woman having a kiss, when she was kissless and older meant she was so jealous she would admit she was the older woman, or an old lady. She was mentally admitting she was the old lady watching Zoe snuggle and kiss the boy, who was holding her in big strong arms. She was petty enough to be jealous of two preteen's relationship blooming, into teenage love.
Zoe was red she let out a gasp opening her mouth and she went reader, big tails sticking up as steam came out of her ears as her eyes widened, Max took her open mouth as the sign to speak French. She felt his tongue down her throat. She was red freaking out, and all her brain could say was. "RETURN FIRE!" She returned it, and now they were open mouth kissing , tongue in use, down their throats and they liked it. The kiss continued like this, Zander turning to tilt his head at the sight of them. Zoe's hips gave a nervous shake as she wasn't use to having caught the boy, and was at a loss, which made her panic and go into shy mode. While Max having no reason to be nervous and act a fool because of it went into bold make out with the one he loved mode. This kiss was changing everything itself alone, and that's just half of what we are asking.
The kiss continued, Doctor Z sighed, "I once knew a love like that." he commented before going back to matters at hand, with his kids all gagging at the mental image, note this was the first time someone spoke in this story. The kiss still happening. Max holding Zoe close as he could, protectively, and gentle, so gentle like he was scared he would break her almost. Zoe still kept pushing forward wanting to be closer, and she didn't know what else to do, as she was freaking out, mentally the roles reversed with a kiss, as they made out. Zoe wanted to be close as she could feel muscles under the hoodie, and well, She knew it was only natural and won't blame him for it. She was red shaking her head in her mind and was weeping happily, as this happened. Zoe continued to return the make out as they continued to do it. She was smiling tearing up with emotions. Jim was a jerk, he had to be as he was time where women where objects. Jim was the first guy to chase her, which kind of damaged herself worth because of it. Yet here was Max life long companion and friend holding her close making out with her. even she while having a brain overload had to ask the question, Would they have been doing this sooner without the Dinosaurs and time travel?
Max was groaning, he was winded wanting air but he didn't want to break this kiss in case their won't be a second one. Zoe also groaned needing air, soon , Zoe's mind was in red alert and she backed up, and action she was already beating herself up over as she panted, for a moment a little e bridge of spit linked their mouths. They panted red , standing there looking at eachother. Zoe panted struggling to say something, anything, luckily Max managed to force out, "Girlfriend?" She panted nodding and in reply forced out, "boyfriend?" Max nodded and they panted while holding eachother, Zoe red blushing and happily tearing up as Max held her, in the same state. To our Shippers congratulations that was you just read about one thousand five hundred words of a kiss.
Rex was jaw dropped as they panted standing before falling over on the floor, Zoe's legs gave out from shock making them fall backwards, she landed on top of her boyfriend going redder form how that looked, but Max laughed it off, making her laugh as they sat up laughing happily together as they sat up, Zoe now sitting in his lap side was holding his hand and resting head on chest, teared up panting and laughing. She couldn't breath, same for her boyfriend. they looked so cute and happy. Rex looked away not wanting to see it. Ursula did the same thing but for different reasons.
That's when Reese called and looked at them on the floor, "What is going on here?" Doctor see looked at watch, "they were making out for I guess about fifteen minutes." Reese's head titled, "WHAT?" Zoe panted pointing to Max and going, "Boyfriend." Reese blinked replaying all the fighting and making up the two did and said one thing, "...That makes sense...How did I miss that, You fought and made up like any healthy couple would." She stated shipping them as the relationship made more sense then The Yes man Rex, who would agree with everything, That isn't a partner that's a crotch. Now Reese adjusted her glasses assuming that Max and Zoe were always dating, and Zoe's star crushes was just normal girl stuff, Max kindly put up with as she knows she couldn't help it at her age, showing his character. After all it was just star struck, that means nothing, that's very mature. " Well then Moving on I don't know why for sure this aliens even need a time machine to get the cosmos stones, however I can only assume they are fourth dimensional objects objects of time, or that each stone changes with time, so their is only one stone with different powers for That period of time, and that time travel is the only way to make it happen. However the fact They couldn't make their own tracker and needed humans with less advanced technology makes me rethink this alien thing. They look to human to be alien. Logic points to this being people form farther in the future having either evolved, or genetically modified them selves for those wings, If this is true will bet humanity had an apocalypse after The Z family's time, to explain the altered bodies and why they need past humans to built for them, they probably salvaged their time machine and don't know how to repair it or make it."
She said stating logic, while adjusting glasses. She looked to Max not knowing how she missed he and her sister was dating, but those moments the bike ride ruined by the old lady, all the moments they shared before dinosaur, or time travel ruined it, and the fact they always fought and made up. They were a couple who's relationship was slowed by time travel, and without it, she probably would have seen them made out a lot sooner. After all without Rex all those outings that became dinosaur problem like the mall or china town would have been Just Max and Zoe, Rex was a third wheel, plus no dinosaurs to ruin the moment.
Little did they Know Rex was holding his head relieving all the moments they all hung out together but removing himself, China Town, The mall, down town, It all came up Max and Zoe date if he was in the future where he belonged. He teared up hiding the tear that fell. He never had a chance, not only did he never have a chance, he was just in the way. An abomination that needs to be removed for nature to take it's course. Hell He looked with his mind's eye to see Marcy calling an older Zoe, grandma. They looked so much alike and let's face it if you met your grandparents as a kid you won't know it was them either. he held his head out right saying it as it came to him. He was in the way, a force that disrupted nature by being where he wasn't supposed to be, something that made the land twisted and toxic. An invader that became a Blight on the land. He watched his crush he shouldn't have even met get up with help of her boyfriend and most likely future husband, and all he saw was nature healing, nature removing him from the land he should have never lived in, Removing all trace of him, nature or time was healing by already forgetting him. They would forget him, they all would, his father, his foster father, foster mother, foster uncle Patrick, his brother, the girl he was crushing on and their by keeping form being with the one she was meant to be with, they would all just forget him, as time restored itself to it's correct state. Who suffers from this? Just him. Stranger in his home land, stranger to his rightful family, having lost over a decade he won't be able to be with the people he should have been with, he won't fit in with the group he would be forced into. He was an anomaly, something that didn't fit in anywhere or any when on the timeline anymore. These new enemies probably had Seth with them, as they were the only other ones with time travel powers. Seth was the reason he was the boy with no time, He would have revenge. It's all he had right now, It really was.
Max meanwhile helped up his girlfriend nuzzling her forehead cutely as she blushed. Ursula gagged, not noticing Rex's mental freak out behind him. Instead she growled walking off bitching about, "The little bitch Got a man before me!? How even?" She growled at the thought storming off before rage gave way to sadness and her falling over crying in her bed all day. This would be the last we will hear from Ursula this story.
Doctor Z looked at his daughter storming off, "I wish I knew what to do here, but...I don't understand woman or girls, I didn't get her as a girl and I messed up and bought her things and you see how that turned out. my boys, they I got. they turned out right, as Zander here is an award winning chemist who found a med that stimulates and speeds up the healing of the body." This explained how the alpha gang recover so fast, "And Ed here is a computer programer who proved his point that our government wasn't secure enough, he beat the prime minister he could hack the system with his cell phone and this man did it! Five minutes. It's how we found out about ...well no spoilers on what he uncovered. No spoilers." he rubbed his beard, "but Ursula I didn't get girls and as such I failed horrible as a parent, and made her a spoiled little princess. I failed so fucking bad!" he said arms out, "I would ask a girl to go talk to her, but right now we have Helga who is robot who doesn't get human, or Zoe, and well No offense to you but, even I know that would be a stupid ass thing to do and it would make things a billion times worst."
Zoe nodded and said this, "She is bitter and lonely." She said pointing out, "her attitude scares them away, and that makes her more bitter and her attitude worst." She said making it blunt, "Like how I didn't want to admit I had feelings for Max and I channeled it into aggression." She was red tapping her fingers, "And I fell into Tsundare and the baka." Max was red, "Really? I acted the fool as I was nervous around you, that's what was behind many of my baka moments...that and dyslexia and Dyscalculia." Zoe smiled thinking they both acted an ass as they weren't ready to kiss yet was cute. Ed commented, "Oh Really Rod had those things, I can tutor you to help. I know how." Max smiled and shock the short man's hand.
Rex hung in the back looking away wondering when the time Machine would come out to move along so he could focus on revenge aka his only reason to exist anymore, as Seth took all other reasons to exist away from him. he would focus on that, not the pointlessly shattered heart, from everything. Ace's chibi mode tugged on Rex's leg with pairs and Chomp clearly sensing something was up. Rex ignored it, Seth is the reason this happened, and Seth only had this power because his parents made this, That means everything, the kidnapped parents, the Black t-rex where technically on his family, he didn't belong and to him it looked like being here was hurting the people he cared about.
That said Our new couple also noticed something was up and stepped aside. Max said one thing, "I think Rex's heart just shattered." Zoe blinked, "he had feelings for you too, it was one of the reasons...I bit ,,,my tongue..." he held his chin realizing something. Zoe blinked gears turning but confused by the look on her boyfriend, "Zoe remove Rex form chinatown eating the food, and remove the dinosaur trouble. That's what he is doing right now." Zoe blinked and followed the thought no Rex, no dinosaurs, She and Max would just got have dinner together a date...She blushed, then turned wide eyed and pale. " He is blaming himself for us not being together, as with no time machine we would have been dating already. Oh my god, he is probably applying that to everyone and everything, that he shouldn't have been there." She said panicked.
Max nodded as he said, "he is going to he is the changeling." She tilted head, "Changeling a baby that looks normal but is supernatural, and one day it's supernatural family that gave it up will come to take the changeling away form it's human family rather they want it or not, leaving behind a broken family, and a horrified repossessed kid, and all of this is normal done as the supernatural view it as hahah Lols. Standard legend and story." Zoe fanned herself as her boyfriend just flexed his brain, granted it was fantasy, but they were pretty science fantasy right now, and she said, "Boyfriend explaining things like smart boy..." Zoe shock her head blushing going, 'Focus on the changeling friend Zoe."
The boyfriend nodded as he took his belly bag back form her and put it back on saying one thing, "The changeling tale either ends with the child being repossessed , with all attempts to stop it just harming the humans, so the changeling submits to save those it cares for. Or The changeling is able to fight back, and stop it but leaves for the changeling knows the supernatural forces that created it will be pitty and come for it again, very rarely is the changeling a winner able to stay with it's family and most of those stories happen because the humans get the edge. Normally changelings are switched out with human babies and the human parents reclaim there baby their by holding all the cards, or their's a trade, and the changeling returns after learning how to use it's powers to slay it's wicked family. A few times a changeling wins without this."
Zoe tapped her foot arms crossed, "So Rex is our changeling, no switch was down, our supernaturals are mostly all around us, and we are looking for captured humans, So this fits, and the Changeling is already clearly thinking of leaving so those he cares about won't be hurt more because of him." She held her chin, "so we need to have all the cards to force it to end the way we want. Okay this thing can't fly without our stones. Yet with clone stones they can put number us by giving cards and stones to the alpha droids if they want..." She held her chin. " How do we save our changeling, I mean I don't like him that way, but no one should be thinking what he's thinking."
Max held her hand and said, "We need to figure out the weakness of the supernatural forces, these cosmos stones they are important are dinosaurs are attracted to them. Their is seven parts of that tablet counting the middle, That means the cosmos stones most have seven too, equal to and maybe opposite of ours. I have seen enough anime and stories to know that means , it looks like the tablet and the cosmos stones can destroy eachother. We can try to talk them into going drop off Rod and Laura after our next stop. After that we just need to set it up so we make it to our time with the stones. and cosmos stones close. If we get one we can force a trade for our parents we can probably make a case and hide the real stones in it or something like that." Zoe was smirking red going, "Max you are thinking and I like it." She was red tapping fingers, "It's a good look for you...wait...you weren't kidding about you being in baka mode as you couldn't ask me out. Like I meant me being in bitch mode...Oh my this means we are going to learn all kinds of new things about eachother as we get to know the us under our masks." She shock her head saying, "so romantic , and we will use the power of our romance to save Rex for losing his changeling story."
Max smiled before they could kiss again they shivered and dove onto hugs for the warmth of an embrace. They looked outside snow. they did a walking hug as they headed back to the other's they saw mammoth and other mega mammals moving and below , their primitive ancestors on a migration. Ed touched the glass and said, "That's us we are watching, it's the ice age the event we survived to come out on top and own this world." he touched it smiling at it, "that's us down there."
The boy in red spoke up, seeing the baby dinosaurs snuggling together for warmth, "Guys aren't our dinosaurs you know tropical birds?" they all looked at him in shock. They stood their staring at Max. Zoe shaking in her boyfriend's arms as she said, "hay now , Not his fault he has to be the voice of reason here, because...well...someone has to be..." Zander replied with "Ouch. Just ouch."
The doctor growled saying, "Well Despite who said it, the fact is right, Our dinosaurs are tropical birds, they won't last five seconds out in the snow and ice of the ice age. I will have to make an answer some kind of move card that doubles body temperature so they can at least stay active for awhile, like Ten minutes in the cold. While I do it go to the fabricator room that can make things to get winter clothing." Zoe tilted head and asked, " then why Old lady shop?" their was no cry of not an old lady. "...That's worrying." Ed took off to check on her sister.
Zoe blushed and moved beside Max guided to the fabricator. Ladies first happened she got on platform and in a moment, light, and she was now in an artic jacket, modern, it was yellow vested black sleeve, with hoodie, her hair in a green bow. green mittens. She had on yellow long pants but Green thick boots. She smiled blushing as she went arms behind back lean forward. "how do I look." Max blushed and said, " Snow angel." she was red at it.
Rex groaned at it, She was red as could be and looked versions when he said she was pretty she just blushed a bit, here she was shaking rubbing her legs together nervously, at a dumb flirty pun, granted he knew his efforts where pointless now, he wasn't meant to know them, he shouldn't have, they should have just been best friends who took eachother to prom and found out they were in love and made out, but he third wheeled that love story. His heart was broken, and he felt horrible that two people he cared about technically suffered because he got in the way of their happiness. That's what's going on in his head a mix of guilt, self hate and rage. He walked to the thing and quickly got thicker version of his normal jacket with hood ear bugs white gloves a bandana thing that hide his mouth and nose. thick winter gloves. He also had goggles on ski goggles with them and the hood on her looked faceless, nothing of flesh could be seen on him.
Max then walked up getting long sleeve furred hoodie version of his normal one, fingered thick arctic waterproof gloves, thick winter boots, his hat thing was remaining as did the belly gag, that's origin we know knew. He also had ski goggles on. Zoe lowered her normal goggles smiling as she came close to Max and went into rub her back against his arm mode blushing but wanting to be close despite how shy and nervous about this relationship she looked.
Zander then got on their he got a track suit like arctic outfit with goggles and hoodie up, Gloves on, "Well I guess Ed is staying with Ursula, So I guess it's just us four going down there." he said trying to sound cheerful despite everything. They headed off to go wait for Doctor Z to finish the move card in question.
Now on the Alien ship The three aliens were heading to Seth. Seth gagged as he picked up three cards, "I hate doing this, I did, but I have used those drone slime bots to capture and card three Ice age mega mammals." he held out the spectral secret cards, Wolly rhino, Giant ground sloth, and Mammoth. " I downloaded power files on Secret dinosaurs into the cards. I am sickened by doing this to non Dinosaurs but we have no choice take your cards." they each took on. "Now Go get the stones so we can leave it's too cold for dinosaurs to be around here, Get the stone so we can move on and leave this place behind for warmer weather, the primitive Human tribe has the stone."
Foolscap looked at his and said, "Oh So go fight humans, in case you haven't noticed that's not an easy task, Super powered or not all this creatures are dead by your hands Sethy." he said being flat about it. Sheer then spoke up, "And the Roman knew how to weaponized the stone, so what makes you think these primitives don't have a wizard using the stone to defend themselves?" Gavro then added, "plus those meddling kids will show up and meddle and make it hard." All had points that this would most likely be a failure as the last two stops no one knew what a dinosaur was, but here they couldn't use them, this mega mammal cards were able to operate, but primitive man hunted and killed all three creatures , This would just be a slightly off day for the caveman, more so when the kids joined them.
In reply Seth spoke up saying, "Trust me I agree with you. I have no faith whatsoever in this mega mammal cards. I personal think this cards are doomed to failure and we will lose but sadly it was the easiest way to try and sadly we can't just give up and let them have it, or else they will get their parents back, and I don't want them to win anymore!" he said making it clear everything he did was to spite children. How bitter and petty was he?
That said let's return to the Backlander shall we, The May have a head start but the Backlander was right above the migrating people, That also said, they already spotted the cosmos stone with it's energy readings they had from the ones' they lost matched this one, it they are different and not the same gem just aged to different colors, so it was right their , they just couldn't move as no Dinosaurs could function in this cold. meaning they had to wait for Doctor Z to show up with the card to let the dinosaurs function.
To pass time on the wait Zoe was looking like she was doing math on a board or miming it, going happy then sad, Max leaned against the wall watching her move and wiggle a bit red, "As much as I am enjoying watching you unknowingly twerk," Zoe jumped red eeping steam coming out of her tears. Max then finished, "What got you wiggling?"
Zoe held her face red trying not to focus on the fact she was unknowingly twerking her booty at her boyfriend. "Well ...I want to prove Rex being here wasn't a hurt to our relationship like he probably thinks , and...I can't find an example." She shrugged sadly at this fact regretting it.. "I mean We met in the park, sure rex not speaking Japanese at the time got you miming out dinosaurs and got me to come over, but the next day you and mean sat down in class together , and end up partners on the team project the following week, the school system would have made us met, I would have still been Spike is a paleontologist and he's your dad , and I would have thought it was cool and come over a lot. So we still would have met and hung out, you still would have impressed me with your dad's get you behind the scene's of the dinosaur wing of the museum. heck if Rex wasn't their for that I probably would have kissed your cheek and called it a lovely first date and boom right in the first month of school we would have been couple." She was red tapping fingers, "So I hate to say it but...It keeps looking like he was right, he shouldn't have been their so he was screwing with the natural order of the world around him."
Rex came in scaring them saying, "I know." he rubbed the back of his head, "Look my broken heart is pointless, I accepted I never had a chance and this pain I feel." he held his heart, "is because Seth stole my parent's RV nothing else, That's what made all this happen. My pain, you two not dating, I didn't belong their, the fact you want to help me is touching, but I don't think anything can make me belong their, or anywhere at this point, I won't fit in later, I don't belong the now, and I know I don't belong before. I am, an anomaly something that shouldn't be, yet sadly is. I overheard you to calling me the changeling and wanting to save me, but the way I see it I go back to now, then I am once more making everything that should happen not. I go to later I won't fit in, and I can't stay here in before, I could change something and make it so one of us wasn't born, heck staying in the now, means I could undo one of our time traveler's births. " he rubbed the back of his neck as he added, " the point is, I just don't think you can save me, or find the place I belong but it's touching you guys want to, even if I did stop you too from kissing for so long. Like Zoe said the day we met, was the day I screwed up you too's childhood sweethearts love story, by third wheeling. I love dad, but like me his broken heart is pointless." he walked off saying, " I know you two will keep trying to save me, but it's rude to help those who don't want it." he left hands in pockets looking down.
Zoe gasped, Max said one thing, "Got dam dude." he crossed his arms as he looked to where Rex was coming from, "Zoe I think I know what just hit him!" He pulled his girlfriend along she was red, following Rex's prints they came to a room with an open door inside a nursery. Zoe blinked and gasped. Max held a teddy bear on the counter, "This is Rex's room, to his parents a few hours ago he was a baby, This bear was to be his first toy." he pointed to the crib, " his first bed." he pointed to a baby's dinosaur costume, " his first pajamas, and well, you get it, now it all goes unused. Rex's parents put on a brave face, but everything was taken from them, just like him." he cried, "While Rex is a changeling, He's not a normal one, the parents that gave him up loved him, and wanted him and had no choice but to give him up, It kept him from being in a pod like them. They had no idea what Seth would do. They gave up everything, for him."
The girl looked at the picture in the frame of the wall, of Rex as baby in his mother's Arms his father holding him she touched it, " This picture is but a day old..." She cried looking at it turning, "Oh Max...This is horrible!" She touched her face, "... Rex's parents should have him, but So should his dad because he loved and raised him."
