As soon as the light dims however, I realize what she means. "That's kinda disappointing..." And what stands before us is... nothing. Hakuno didn't summon anyone, even though her hand does have the Command Seal.
Hakuno's face is filled with disbelief. "H-huh...? Why did... no one show up?" She was clearly expecting a Servant, and so was I to be honest. It could have been a very cute girl after all!
Rin breathes a sigh of relief. "That was sc-." And then she realizes something. "Oh, that was dumb of me, of course no Heroic Spirit answered her call. How could they?"

I raise a hand. "So Skadi, can you explain what just happened? Shouldn't she have summoned a Servant?" Even now Hakuno seems to be in disbelief about the situation, and to be honest I'm sort of in her camp.

She continues. "And the grail decided to answer her will with a early gift of her Command Seals, which are now fully manifested... But she lacked a few things." She looks at Rin. "Isn't that right Master?" I guess this is sort of a test.
Rin raises a finger. "She didn't have a ritual circle." Oh right, that's a thing. "Without it her connection with the grail and the leylines would be weak. It's still theoretically possible to summon a Servant with a powerful enough catalyst, but... she didn't have one."
"And her Magic Circuits are also essentially dead. She doesn't have the mana for a Servant, at least not without help. In essence she received false hope just now." Oh, that's kinda funny.
Hakuno finally speaks up again. "That... do you really need all that stuff to summon a Servant?" For some reason I can tell she instinctively asked that of Rin. Does my first concubine exude the aura of a teacher or something?

Illya shakes her head. "The Grail has some moderate amount of intelligence, and it's purpose is to grant a wish. Currently Yato is set to control four servants, and let's be honest here, he will control even more."
"Skadi can quite easily make a system where such is possible after all... I have only gotten a glimpse of her work, but she puts any modern magus to shame." That's a goddess for you.
"So the Grail will, as Skadi said, fight back." That actually reminds me of the conversation I recently had with Shiro. "How it will do so is a bit unpredictable however... Well, tomorrow we will summon Saber, okay Yato?"
I send her a thumbs up. "Seems good. And we can also finally bring those maids of yours." That way Cleopatra will stop complaining. Actually she probably won't stop until Waver hires us a full staff.
Shiro takes a deep breath. "Okay, someone needs to say it, and I guess that person needed to be me... It's super weird that we are having this conversation when Sakura... you know." Eh?

But Yato Shibata has been summoning Servants left and right, something which the Holy Church is aware of at this point. So we are ready in case the war starts even earlier than previously expected.
Although... perhaps this is one of Yato Shibata's Servants...? She does look awfully like the Saber from the last war, and I do know the Campione is interested on her.
She smiles, it's so pure that shivers run down my spine. "I'm not here to compete in the war. I'm here to regulate it." Oh, could it be...? "My Class is Ruler, true name Jeanne D'arc." Indeed it is...
Wait, that true name...! I can't help it, I burst into laughter.

That explains my question about her having a Master, it's this Laeticia girl... So Jeanne D'arc materialized in the world with a body capable of doing anything a body should be able to do, and now her enemy is most likely Yato Shibata?
Talk about throwing the sheep to the wolves...
I nod. "So, is there anything else I should know? Shall this war become somewhat chaotic...?" I'm talking about more Servants being summoned. I am familiar with the idea of a Ruler class.
She shakes her head. "No, the grail doesn't have enough mana to take such drastic measures." I see. Well, Fuyuki most likely wouldn't surive such an event. "I am just here to... stop someone who's interfering with the war."
I raise an eyebrow. "And how do you plan on doing that...?" Campione certainly did exist on her age, but I don't know if Jeanne D'arc would be familiar with the term. Perhaps this Laeticia girl would know?
The Saint looks away. "Erm... to be quite honest I do not yet know, for I do not even know who this person is. I will have to do some research." Ah, this is...
