"Exuse me who is missing?" Jay asked in confusion. Her mind was racing.
" ." Ethan managed to spit out.
"Is this a sick joke?" Jay seethed as Jason touched her shoulders. "My brother is dead, how dare you come to my home and say this"
"Jay" Kira spoke stepping forward. 'Please come to our lab and let Hayley explain"
"Lab? what lab?" Jay asked them. "What is going on here? speak now or i will freeze you where you stand!" She growled as an icilcle formed. She could feel the power emerging. The power she surpressed a month ago.
"Jay lets go" Jason grabbed her hand and got into his truck. Jason sped down the road behind the mustang. "Okay you better tell me what that was"
"Leave it!" She snapped back.
Once they pulled up to the house they followed the others into the dino lab. Jay was stunned at what was before her. "Hunter?" She whispered as she noticed him in a char. She ran into his waiting arms. "Hunter what's going on?"
Hayley gave her a sad smile as they had met at her Mom's funeral. "Jay, there is something you need to see" Hayley put in the CD.
Jay began to let the tears roll as her brother's face appeared in the screen. Hunter hugged her to his chest.
"Jay, if your watching this video then you know i am alive. I am in Reefside and have been since Carter found me off the coast. This is not the way i had planned to tell you. Jay if your watching this then it means something has happened to me and my team needs your help"
"Team?" Jay asked.
"Jaylynn as your grew up all i wanted for you was to be safe. What your about to see is my history as a power ranger".
Hayley pressed a few buttons and a split screen appeared as the video diary olayed.
"My heart shattered piece by piece everytime i had to lie or break a promise but i had no other choice. Zordon made us promise to look out for you. He made us promise that you would grow up to be the adult you needed to be. He knew just like you did that you would have a part to play of your own someday in the ranger world and you did when you gave The Mitchell's their son back. Jaylynn please join our team and retake your place that was laid out for you when you found that gem in Blue Bay, become a ranger and make your own legacy"
Jay pulled away from Hunter as her body began to shake. The anger rising. "Don't" She seethed as Jason went towards her. "All this time not only did my brother lie to me but you did to."
Jaylynn pulled out of Hunter's arms and stormed upstairs. Once she got upstairs she lookied around her brother's house. Pictures of her and her family on the walls.
"Jay". Jason whispered. "Jay please don't do this"
"You know from the moment i was born until now Tommy was my rock. I should have seen it, i should have noticed everytime there was a monster that he would always leave."
Jason stood quietly and listened as she spoke.
"But to find out i was lied to. From the moment i met Zordon he always made me understand the importance of hiding your idenities but now knowing if all of my friends it drives that knife deeper" She told him not turning around. "Was i that much of a hinderance? Was i that big of a burden?"
"No Jay you weren't. Jay you were so innocent. It was Zordon who wanted you out of all of this. He saw you as a kid who had friends. A kid he wanted to protect. Jay everytime Tommy went to a fight knowing you were safe and knowing you were going to be home waiting for him made him the ranger he is today." Jason explained.
Jay finally turned to face him.
"Jay you remember what Zeo Ranger 5 did to you.? Well that also is a reason why he couldn't tell you. He carries the guilt with him even to this day". Jason told her stepping closer. "Please help us get him back and talk to him"
"Okay" She agreed.
Once she rejoined the others in the lab they gathered around to form a plan.
"Jay, i need to ask. I know your connected to that gem can you control its power once the gem is in your hands?" Hayley asked her.
"Yes i can. I am a fully fledged ice ninja" She answered.
"Okay they seemed to have left the fortress they are just north of here." Hayley brought up the footage.
Jay growled as she saw her brother in rough shape. "Hayley is Tommy a ranger again?"
"He is but it seems that Mesogog has removed it." Hayley told them.
Jay nodded as she turned to the dino team."Look i know we don't know each other and i know i have a ranger past of my own but i promise i will help get my brother back and push my anger aside."
"Jay are you okay?" Hunter asked her as she was beginning to sweat.
"I, uh feel strange" She mumbled. The dino lab lit up as a bright light in the shape of a bird appeared in the room. Jay rubbed her chest as another floated out of her body and flew around her. The two birds flew around her. One a falcon, another an eagle. "What is this?"
"Jay" Jason began. "Its your animal spirit"
"Jase are you saying i am ninjettii to?"
Jason smiled. "You are. When we get Tommy back we will both tell you the story but for now embrace the strength that you are feeling, do not be afraid"
"Lets go get him back" Conner urged. "We trust you Jaylynn"
Wth that they all raced out. The two animal spirits following.
Hunter slapped his forehead. "Uh Oh, if Jay reclaims the gem then that means Sage will be back"
"Whose Sage?" Hayley questioned.
"Crap too late." Hunter pointed to the center of the room as a portal appeared allowing a whte tiger with a huge blue stripe going down her back appeared.
"Whoa!" Hayley cried hiding behind him.
"Hayley its okay. Long story short but the owner of the gem had a guardian. Now that Jay is the new owner well Sage is now her guardian. Jay will explain". Hunter assured her.
Mesogog cirlcled a very weak and beaten Tommy Oliver. "Pathetic. Tell us where she is!"
"Never" Tommy managed.
Mesogog went to punch but an iciccle stuck his hand.
"Get away from him!" Jaylynn roared. "I won't tell you again."
Tommy's eyes grew heavy as his sister's face came into view. "No, Jay get out of here" He whispered as he passed out.
"Conner can you guys handle these ugly ducklings?"
"We got this Jay go get your brother" Conner replied.
Jay nodded in thanks and ran ahead with Kira by her side. Both girls ran towards Tommy but Zeltrax blocked their way. "Out of my way tin head!"
"Jay go i got him" Kira urged her.
Jay kicked Zeltrac away and ran to her brother who was handing from his wrists. "Tommy hey? wake up" She patted his cheeks and untied him. She was releived as he groaned while Ethan jpined her. "Help me".
"Jay go" Tommy muttered.
"Ethan get him out of here". Jay ordered the blue ranger. Once Ethan got him away Jay stood up and closed her eyes. "By the power of ice! Ice Barrage!" Bullets made of ice came from her hands sending the drones to the ground.
"Whoa!" Kira yelled in surprise.
"That's wild!" Conner cheered.
Jay ran towards the rock that held her and her brother's gem. She jumped in the air abover Zeltrax. "Ice canon!" Her armed formed into a canon shooting ice bullets causing Zeltrax to explode and fly into the air. Jay rolled grabbing the two gems.
"This is not over rangers" Zeltrax promised as he retreated.
Jay grinned then ran to her brother. "You okay?" She asked kneeling down in front of him. She gasped at the brusies on his ribs. "Come on lets get you home"
Once they all got back to the house Jay thanked the team for their help. The three rangers decided to give the siblings some privacy. Jay watched as Hayley bandaged her brother's ribs. "I got the rest Hayley". She told her.
Jay took the wet cloth and wiped the dirt and blood from his face. Once she bandaged his cheek she spoke. "You're still my hero you know".
"You saw it didn't you?"
She nodded. "I did. Tommy i want so bad to hate you. but i can't. Even now your still protecting me".
"Its my job" Tommy stated. "Jay you are the other half of my heart. I made a promise that i would always look after you."
Jay looked away. "I'm glad your okay but i can't be here"
"Why? Jay seeing you fight, seeing you embrace your gem and powers what are you afraid of?"
Her words were a knife stabbing his heart. "Because i'm cursed"
"Jaylynn Olivia Oliver you are not cursed. Why on earth would you say that?" Tommy said firmly as she sat on the steps of the lab. "Please talk to me"
Jay swallowed hard. "I killed Mom, i killed Dana's baby. Mom would still be alive if i never got sick in Blue Bay and had to come home early. I went to visit Dana after Mom died and she lost her baby. So tell me i'm not cursed"
Tommy held his ribs as he sat next to her. "Jay Mom died because the brakes failed on the car. It wasn't your fault that Dana lost her baby. Jay its a part of life, its trials we all face as we go through gorwing up. Have you told them how you feel?"
"No, i haven't spoken to them in over a week. I left without warning or a note". She told him. "You have no idea how much i missed you".
"Come here kiddo" Tommy wrapped his sister in his arms as tight as he could ignoring the pain. "I never wanted to hurt you Jay. "
"I know why you did it" She pulled away. "Tommy i can't be a ranger becuase Zordon is not here".
And there it was. Tommy felt his heart shatter. He finally understood it all.
"Its exactly why you should be".
"Huh?"
Tommy laughed. "Jay Zordon doesn't have to be physically here to see you become a ranger. He is still in your heart and you know that. You take a stand and shpw him what you can do. You remember him telling you that you be able to help a ranger in need well now its time that you show him the ranger he wanted you to be. Let my team help you and together nothing can stop you"
"You mean that?"
Tommy kissed her cheek. "I do. Jay your phone is ringing"
Jay got up and pulled her phone out of her pocket. "Okay i know Dana has been texting but Tommy i have ten missed calls and now she is calling again." Jay accepted the call. "Hello?"
Dana's voice was full of panic. "Jay thank God we have been trying to reach you!"
"Dana hey slow down i know i haven't been returning your calls. Dana slow down"
Tommy saw the scared look on his sister's face and came to stand next to her. "Hey what's wrong?"
Jaylynn hung up. "Ryan, he" She wiped tears. "Ryan's been hurt"
"Grab your sweater we're going to Mariner Bay. Now" He began to walk forward. "Jay, hey come on"
"I C-can't. I told you i'm cursed"
Tommy took her hands. "Look he needs you right now and i know you need him come on kiddo" He led her out to his jeep.
The ride was quiet the who way. Once they got their they both walked inside. Jay swallowed hard as she noticed Dana in the wating room. The teen ran into her arms. Dana held her tight.
"Dana" Tommy whispered. "What happened?"
Dana led Jay and herself to the chairs."He was on a call. I don't know for sure but from what Carter told me he just he just ran into the building with no 's in surgery . His leg is broken, e has three broken ribs and swelling on his brain"
"But he's going to be okay right?" Jay's voice firm. "I can't lose anyone else"
"You won't." Captain Mitchell's voice rough. "Jaylynn." He sat down on her left side. "I missed you. We all did".
"I'm so sorry i left".
The older man wiped her tears. "Nothing to be sorry for, when this is all over i do expect an explaination".
"Yes sir" She joked lightly.
Jay laid her head on his lab as her body gave into the rest as they waited for news.
"Dana can i have a word?" Tommy asked of her as they went to get coffee. They sat in the cafeteria. "I'm sorry for your loss. Jay told me."
"Thanks. Jay was over after the funeral and we were watching a movie. I went to grab a shower and i slipped. Carter told me never to do it alone since i was so far along but i was stubbon. Jay called an ambulance. When i woke up in the hospital they told me i miscarried. Carter told me when he rushed home from his shift Jay was just gone. We never knew why. That was over a week ago now." Dana explained.
"I'm sorry."
"I guess a part of me knew she was still grieving and losing the baby hit home for her so trust me we all understand. Ryan even went to Angel Grove to look for her but was told she moved to Reefside. He told me he failed her."
"What do you mean?" Tommy was curious.
"Ryan thinks he failed her in not helping her like she helped him. Jay helped him come to terms after what he had done as a ranger under Diabolico and after she left he felt he would never get the chance to help her heal" Dana told Tommy.
Carter chose that moment to enter the cafeteria. "The doctor is back".
All three rushed down the hall to join everyone.
"Please how is he?" Dana asked the doctor.
Doctor Reynold's spoke. "He came through surgery. Ryan lost alot of blood before he arrived from internal bleeding. Dana i won't lie, he flatlined twice but we got him back. The good news is he is breathing on his own but i am concerned with the swelling."
"Can we see him?"
"Yes Dana off course, room 11. I will chek on him later"
Jay felt like her heart stopped. She felt her brother embrace her from behind. "I got you, come on"
Jay walked to his doorway and put her hands to her mouth as her other hero laid in the bed. In silence they all watched as she climbed on to his bed and curled into his side. "I'm sorry please come back" She pleaded.
"I have to make a call i'll be back" Tommy spoke and excused himself.
Dana sat in one of the chairs next to the bed. She absently rubbed her belly. Dana looked over to see Jay asleep with her head on Ryan's shoulder and her right arm across hos chest. "You know she is not going to move right?"
Carter smirked. "I know." He pulled a blanket from the linen cart and covered the young girl. "I just don't understand why he just ran in there. We had cleared the building or i thought we did"
"No" Will spoke quietly. "I just spoke with Ryan's partner. As Ryan was packing up the ambulance with Abby she noticed something in the top window. There was a kid stuck upstairs. I think i know why Ryan rushed in. Dana you remember when Jay convinced Ryan to come home. Well remember there was an attack and Jay got stuck in the old fire hall"
"Jay got the burn on her knee because Ryan couldn't get in due to the fire. He watched the crew pull her and her soccer team out and Ryan felt guilty as hell. Ryan ran in because all he saw was her from back then" Carter finished piecing it together."Is the kid okay?"
Will looked down. "Yes she is fine. Abby told me Ryan managed to get her out before the rook collapsed on him. I think Ryan thought it was Jay inside" Will looked down at his son and the girl he he thought of as a daughter. "She's back Ryan now come back to us" Will kissed Jay's cheek and touched his son's head.
Tommy walked back inside. "Sorry i took a couple of days off from work. How is she?"
"She's terrified." Dana answered as she looked at Jay who was still asleep.
Tommy walked over and kissed her cheek then went to sit with the others.
Later that night Jay woke up and noticed it was dark outside. She reached up and cupped Ryan's cheek where his oxygen mask laid. "You know i am getting impatient here mister. Ryan Mitchell if you don't wake up right now i will never make you my famous chocolate pancakes" She giggled lightly.
Jay stared out the window. She was about to speak when she felt his hand move. "Ryan?"
Ryan Mitchell made a noise let out a groan as his eyes opened.
Jay felt the weight on her heart lift. "Shh don't talk. I'm right here and i am not going ahywhere"
Ryan let a tear slip down his cheek. "Hey" His voice raspy under the mask. His movement getting Dana's attention.
"Ryan?"Dana spoke as she walked up to the bed. "Hey you, welcome back" Dana took the oxygen mask off and put in nasal prongs. "How are you feeling?"
"Sore" He replied. "You told me i would get pancakes" He spoke to Jay causing everyone to leaugh waking up Tommy and Carter.
"Hey man" Carter spoke with a smile.
"You scared us" Tommy told him patting his shoulder.
"Sorry. So when can i bust out of here?" Ryan asked hopeful as he hated hospitals.
"You just want my pancakes" Jay spoke casually as she hopped off the bed. "What its true"
"Look man get some rest and let your doctor check in on you tomorrow". Carter suggested. "Come on we should head home and get some rest i am pretty sure visiting hours are over."
As Jay turned she looked down to see Ryan holding her hand. "What is it?"
"Stay please."
"Okay, i will see you all in the morning". She told the group as she reclaimed her spot on the bed next to him.
From the door Tommy watchedthe two. He couldn't imagine what would happen in Jay lost him. But right now he knew they needed time to talk.
Jay and Ryan laid in silence. But Ryan broke it first.
"I'm sorry i failed you"
"Excuse me?" Jay was shocked.
"I failed you when you left. I should have tried harder to find you after you left" Ryan sounded upset. "I even went to you hometown to find out but you were gone."
Jay used her hand to turn his face towards her. "Hey, you listen to me. Ryan you never one failed me. I moved to Reefside to get a fresh start after losing my Mom. I thought i lost Tommy to at the time. but i just found out a lot today. Ryan why on earth did you run into that building?"
Ryan swallowed. "My partner told me someone was stuck inside and my mind immediately thought it was you. I guess my mind took me back to that day i couldn't get to you back then when you were stuck after the attack".
Jay understood and she relived the memory. "The firefighters held you back from going in that day."
"Please Jay why did you leave?" Ryan asked unaware his Father was outside the door listening.
Jay pushed herself up and propped her head in her hand. "I left because i am cursed or i feel i am. Its just lately everywhere i go sadness follows me."
Ryan let her lay down as he wrapped an arm around her. "I don't ever want to hear you say your cursed ever again. Jay bad things happen but you have to remember its the cycle of life. You also have to know your never alone"
Jay pulled up the blanket. "I never told your Dad this but he is the Fathjer i never had since my Dad left when i was a kid" She let out a yawn.
"Get some sleep". Ryan told her as his eyes were getting heavy. Ryan let the painkillers kick in as he drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
The next morning Jay woke up as the doctor entered so she decided to go and get some coffee for them. Her mind felt fresh after her talk with Ryan.
Jay walked back to the room and frowned when she heard fighting. "Ryan this is not the end of the world!" She heard Dana yell. But what she heard next causing her to drop her coffee.
"Jay" Dana spoke as she wachec Jay put the coffee. "Jay did you hear that?"
"Um, i'm sorry i didn't mean to interupt. I heard Ryan say this is a family matter so i will just go".
Ryan glared. "Well its true. You only came here because i was hurt. I will get through this with my family which your not"
"Ryan!" His Ftaher scolded.
"Its true Dad, she left us with no warning and now she just shows up when i get call that being a family, i don't think so" Ryan stated with a harsh tone.
Jay just stoof there taking in his words. She knew the Doctor never gave good news but his words cut deep. She laid the snacks down with a little gift bag. "I better go and get the bus and go home since Tommy left earlier this morning."
"Jay please" Carter pleaded.
"Its okay he's right i should have just came back and not ghosted you guys like i did." She wiped a lone tear. With that she turned on her heela and quietly walked out ingoring Ryan's shout for her to come back.
"Okay whatr was that?" Dana demanded after she was gone.
Ryan felt regret after Jay left. "I didn't mean to, i guess after hearing the doctor told me my firefighter career is over due to my leg injury i took it out on ! " He cired as he recieved a slap on the head from his Dad.
"Serves you right. Dana whats in the bag?"
Dana handed the gift bag. "Ryan it has you name on it"
Ryan took the blue bag and took out the box. His heart crumbled as he opened it to find a silver ring. "Family doesn't have to be blood" was engraved on the inside. He opened the card.
"Happy birthday Ryan. I made the ring personally with a friend of mine in Blue Bay Harbour. Thank you for being you. Love you"
"I messed up didn't I?" He asked slipping the ring around his ring finger on his right hand.
"You think?" Carter stated. "Your birthday is today right?"
Ryan nodded. "Yeah." He looked confused as his Father left the room.
Jay walked out of the hospital qickly to head to get the bus to Reefside. Sne decided she had an hour to kill so she headed to the one place in Mariner Bay that gave her peace. She walked to the rock wall that overlooked the ocean where the base used to be.
"Jay?" Tommy asked as he saw her. "Jay what are you doing here?"
She turned to see her brother. "I thought you went home?"
He joined her on the rocks. "I was going to last night but i spent the night and made a call." He turned pointing to Kira who was getting out of his jeep."I figured you needed someone to hang with. Jay i don't know whats going on right now but let the team in okay. She also brought me this"
Jay gasped as he pulled out a silver dino bracelet with her silver gem on top. "Its beautiful"
"Its yours." Kira spoke as she joined them. "Please say yes because i will go crazy if i have to deal with the three guys any longer no offense Dr.O"
He smiled and waved it off. "Non-taken"
Jay slipped it on her wrist. "I'm in"
Kira gave her new friend a light hug. Kira vowed to be a good friend to her if she ever needed anything. "So care to show me around?"
"Sure" Jay agreed as the girls left Tommy behind.
Tommy smiled at the two girls who were laughing as they walked away. This is what his sister needed to help heal.
Note: Okay i know i am putting Jay through the ringer but trust me i have a plan.
