Last time on "Legacy of Raditz", a recent threat has come to Earth, and the threat revealed to Goku that he was his Saiyan brother Raditz! What will happen to Son Goku and friends? Keep reading to find out!
Raditz had chucked Gohan into his pod. Gohan cried and yelled as he banged on the hatch. Eventually, Gohan would stop shouting and stop crying. He realized that his pleas would be ignored entirely. Gohan sat curled up inside the cramped space of the Saiyan pod, his small body trembling. The cold metal walls and the faint hum of the machinery made him feel more alone than ever. His heart pounded in his chest, both from fear and the exhaustion of trying to escape earlier. He missed his dad and his home, but most of all, he felt trapped, not just physically, but by the overwhelming power of the man who had taken him.
Suddenly, the pod's internal speaker crackled to life, and the deep, commanding voice of Raditz filled the enclosed space."Stop that sniveling, brat. You're a Saiyan, just like your father and me," Raditz's voice was stern, almost harsh, but there was a hidden layer of something else—pride. Gohan looked around, his large eyes wide with both fear and curiosity. "W-Who's there?" he stammered, his voice small and shaky.
"Who else would it be, boy? It's me, your uncle Raditz," Raditz replied with a gruff edge, his tone brooking no argument. "I don't have time to babysit you. But know this—you're a Saiyan warrior. Start acting like it." Gohan swallowed hard, trying to make sense of Raditz's words. "But... I don't want to fight. I just want to go home," he whispered, his voice almost lost in the hum of the pod. Raditz's voice came back, this time with a touch of impatience. "Home? You think the universe cares about what you want? You're a Saiyan, and Saiyans don't cower in fear. We fight, we conquer, and we survive."
"But... I'm scared," Gohan admitted, tears welling up in his eyes. "I don't want to hurt anyone." There was a moment of silence, and Gohan wondered if Raditz had left him alone. But then Raditz's voice returned, softer this time, though still carrying that underlying sternness. "Fear is natural, especially for someone like you—soft, weak, raised on this pitiful planet. But you're still my nephew, and that means you have potential. More than you realize. So stop crying and start thinking like a warrior."
Gohan sniffed, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. "Like a warrior?"
"Yes," Raditz confirmed. "A true Saiyan doesn't let fear control him. He uses it to fuel his strength. Remember that, boy. Remember your heritage." Gohan nodded, even though Raditz couldn't see him. For a moment, the fear in his heart lessened, replaced by something else—a small flicker of courage. Raditz, on the other side of the communication, allowed himself a rare moment of contemplation. There was a time when he was just as small, just as uncertain. But he had learned to bury those feelings deep. And perhaps, just perhaps, this boy could learn the same." Now, sit tight. We've got bigger things to deal with soon. And remember—you're a Saiyan. "Start acting like it," Raditz commanded before the speaker cut off, leaving Gohan alone with his thoughts, but with a newfound determination beginning to take hold.
Raditz sat on the rock, looking at the view before him. The sight of the mountains piercing through the sky was a nice view. Even Raditz had to admit it was a bit breathtaking. He sighed before cracking a small smirk. "Pitiful planet…" Raditz maintained his stoic demeanor.
Goku and Piccolo flew to Gohan's location, and they found a field where Raditz was sitting. Raditz's scouter beeped, and he tossed the fruit to the ground. "Huh, a power level of 322 and 334!" he exclaimed. Goku and Piccolo were closing in and fast.
"Give me my son back, Raditz!" yelled Goku from the air. Piccolo and Goku landed in front of Raditz. "Where did you hide, my son?" asked Goku.
"Oh, I didn't hide him. I simply locked my nephew in my pod behind you," said Raditz. Goku went to the air to check on Gohan. Gohan perked up at the sound of Goku's voice. He scurried over the hatch to bang on it once again. "Daddy help!" yelled Gohan. "Don't worry Gohan! Daddy will get you out," Goku yelled back. Goku turned his attention back to Raditz, his face filled with rage, his knuckles turned white.
"I'm getting my son back but I know it won't be easy" said Goku
"You dare defy your brother!?" Raditz snapped. "Why can't you join me and kill the people on this planet," he added
"'Cause I'm nothing like you," replied Goku. Piccolo scoffed, his demeanor calm and collected as ever. "I don't have time for your family squabbling," Piccolo tossed aside his turban, making an audible thud on the ground, followed by his cape.
Goku looked over at Piccolo with a bit of intrigue, a smile creeping on his face.
,"What Piccolo? You wear weighted clothing too?" Goku followed Piccolo's lead and took off his weighted clothes and they, too, made a thud on the ground. "What? Their power levels jumped to 416 and 400?" Raditz muttered to himself.
Piccolo and Goku wasted no time as they charged at Raditz, but Raditz was ready and blocked their attacks with his forearms before retaliating, sending Goku and Piccolo flying.
"Wow, he's strong!" commented Goku. "Piccolo, we need to attack him from behind"
Piccolo looked over to Goku, "I knew you were going to say that," Goku and Piccolo once again charged at Raditz from behind but that attempt failed as Raditz gave them two kicks simultaneously.
Raditz went straight into the air as the duo charged at him again, "Double Sunday!" shouted Raditz as he shot ki blasts from both of his hands but luckily the two dodged the potentially dangerous attack, "Whoa that was close!" exclaimed Goku "Ah! Piccolo, you're alright!?" Goku turned his attention to his ally. Blood dripped onto the grass. The attack had completely removed Piccolo's arm."Heh, have you seen my arm? You can't miss it, it's green! Hey, do you want me to lend you a hand?!" Raditz laughed in delight. It was plainly obvious that Raditz was enjoying the sight.
"Goku, got any new techniques you got up your sleeve?" asked Piccolo
"Unfortunately, no. I don't" replied Goku, smirking.
"Tch, lazy fool while you were slacking I was preparing a new technique that I was going to use on you but I guess I'll have to use it now. The upside is I can use it with one arm,"
"What's the downside?," asked Goku.
"The downside is that you'll need to distract him while I charge my attack," replied Piccolo.
Goku nodded in confirmation, "Got it."
He charged for Raditz once more, using the afterimage technique to catch Raditz off guard and grab his tail. In the meantime, Piccolo was charging his attack.
Raditz fell to his knees, his power leaving him the instant his tail was grabbed.
"Ka...Kakarot I beg of your mercy let me go and I promise I'll leave this planet forever" Raditz pleaded weakly. His gaze met Goku's, he looked quite pathetic.
"You promise?" said Goku, his grip still tight on Raditz's tail.
"Yes, Kakarot… let me go and I'll leave." said Raditz weakly
"Goku, don't listen to him! He's only telling lies!" Piccolo cut in, but it was too late Goku already let go of Raditz's tail "Damn it Goku!"
Raditz had elbowed Goku out of the way. His scouter beeps once again, pointing to Piccolo, "What? A power level of 1,330?! It's the green one he's concentrating his power into two fingers!"
"SPECIAL BEAM CANNON!" with a roar Piccolo shot a yellow spiraling beam!
GYURRRN!!
The attack carved a huge hole in the mountains in the distance. The dust began to settle and Raditz stood there with a singed shoulder. Raditz looked over to the mountains. His eyes couldn't believe what he was seeing, then he looked back to Piccolo. "If that had hit me, I would have died, but fortunately it only singed my armor," he said, then turned to the pained Goku. "Now, it's time for Kakarot..." Raditz smirked as Goku struggled to catch his breath and couldn't find the strength to stand up.
Raditz smiled deviously as he made his way over and he decided to stomp Goku's ribs multiple times, making him suffer even more, "AH STOP IT AGH!" Goku screamed in pain. The agony was too much to bare, but no one could stop it, "AH STOP IT AGH!" and then, out of nowhere, Goku heard a muffled yell, "Huh?!" Someone with a power level of 1,370?!" Raditz snapped his eyesight over to the crater.
With a burst of energy and roar, Gohan shows himself, "LEAVE MY DADDY ALONE!" Gohan was trembling, but not with fear this time but instead with pure rage, "L-LEAVE MY DADDY ALONE!" he yelled as he charged at Raditz, ramming headfirst into his abdomen, knocking him back. "H-he broke through my armor! Nobody could damage me in battle before!" Raditz was stunned by Gohan's power level suddenly rising and then witnessed it drop back down. Raditz walked towards Goku and Gohan, gritting his teeth, just seething with rage.
"Daddy!" exclaimed Gohan as he hurried towards his weak father, "Gohan, I'm ok… Just get out of here." said Goku. Gohan whimpered, unsure of what he should do, then Goku snapped at the boy again, "Gohan, get out of here!" Raditz was seeing red at this point, his blood reached a boiling point, "I'm going to kill you!" he yelled out as he backhand slapped Gohan out of the way "Now you, Kakarot!" he screamed as he prepared to crush Goku's ribs once more.
Raditz's head snaps to attention once his scouter beeps once more, "A power level of 1,440?! And it's coming from him!" Raditz looked over to Piccolo, who was charging his Special Beam Cannon once more. Raditz was furious for not foreseeing something like this. He had to do something or else this could be the end for him.
Raditz tried to charge forward, but something held him back. He struggled against it, desperate to escape. "Kakarot, you fool! If that beam hits us, we'll be finished!" he pleaded.
Goku, his voice strained but determined, called out, "Raditz, listen to me! You don't have to do this. You don't have to be like them!"
Raditz turned, his expression torn between anger and confusion. "Be like them? You speak as if I have a choice. We are Saiyans, Kakarot! We're born to conquer and destroy. It's in our blood."
Goku gritted his teeth, holding onto Raditz with all his strength. "But you don't have to be that way! Look at Gohan. Look at me. We're your family, Raditz. You don't have to be alone."
For a moment, Raditz faltered. The word "family" echoed in his mind, unfamiliar and uncomfortable. He looked down at Goku, seeing not just a weak Earthling, but his brother—someone who had escaped the harshness of their upbringing. Then his gaze shifted to Gohan, the child who, despite his fear, had shown potential.
"Family," Raditz whispered, as if testing the word. "Do you think that changes anything? You think that can save you?"
Goku nodded, his eyes pleading. "Yes, I do. We can help you, Raditz. You don't have to be a slave to what they made you."
"Damn it, Goku…" Piccolo muttered under his breath. He knew Goku's sentimental values would surface. He could see it in Goku's eyes.
Raditz's face twisted with conflicting emotions. Part of him wanted to dismiss Goku's words as foolish, but another part, deep within, longed for something more—something beyond the endless cycle of violence and destruction.
Raditz stopped struggling, letting Goku's words sink in. "Kakarot… I've been alone my entire life. Fighting, surviving… it's all I know. But…" He hesitated, his voice dropping to a near whisper, "Maybe there's something else."
Piccolo's voice cut through the tension, sharp with impatience. "Damn it, Goku! I can't hold this charge much longer! We don't have time for this!" he shouted.
Goku smiled, sensing that his words had finally penetrated the cold armor around Raditz's heart. He knew Piccolo was ready to fire, but he also knew that Piccolo didn't believe Raditz could change. Piccolo believed that people like Raditz, people like him, were too far gone. Goku had to make his decision.
"SPECIAL BEAM CANNON!"
The bright beam rocketed through the air, electricity crackling around it. Raditz stared it down, eyes wide, ready to meet his end and pay for all the wrong he had done. But Goku, with a small chuckle, made his choice. "Make sure Gohan grows up big and strong… tell him I'm sorry."In that moment, Goku pushed his brother away, just in time. Raditz stumbled, turning to see the beam strike Goku instead. His stunned silence spoke volumes.
Goku's body hit the ground with a dull thud, his eyes lifeless, his energy fading away. For a moment, there was nothing but silence—a heavy, oppressive quiet that pressed down on everything, like the calm after a storm.
Piccolo's eyes narrowed as he looked down at Goku's fallen form. "Damn it, Goku… you got us all killed. Curse your sentimentality," he muttered, his voice low and filled with bitterness. His gaze then shifted to Raditz, and the bitterness twisted into raw hatred for the Saiyan who had caused all of this.
Raditz stood frozen, his body trembling as he clenched his teeth and fists. He couldn't bring himself to look at Goku, not after what had just happened. A Saiyan, his own brother, had sacrificed himself for him—a notion so alien to Raditz that he could barely process it.
Why him? Why spare him? The questions hammered in his mind, each one more confusing than the last. Was Goku really that certain that Raditz could change? That he was worth saving?
Raditz felt a surge of anger, not at Goku, but at himself. This was a new, unwelcome feeling, one that gnawed at his insides and left him feeling hollow. He was a warrior, a conqueror—he wasn't supposed to feel this way. Yet here he was, standing over the lifeless body of his brother, a man who had shown him a kind of mercy he had never known.
His fists tightened until his knuckles turned white. "Kakarot… you fool," he whispered, his voice barely audible, choked with something that felt disturbingly close to grief.
Piccolo, watching him closely, saw the conflict in Raditz's eyes, and his own hatred flared. "Don't think for a second that this changes anything, Raditz. Goku's dead because of you. Don't forget that."
Raditz flinched at Piccolo's words, his rage and confusion battling for control. But deep down, beneath the layers of pride and anger, there was a small, flickering flame—a part of him that wanted to believe Goku's sacrifice wasn't in vain.
But he wasn't ready to face that yet. Not another word, Raditz turned away, leaving Piccolo to stare at Goku's lifeless body with a scowl. Raditz's thoughts were a storm, but one thing was clear: nothing would ever be the same.
Now that the fight between the Goku, Piccolo and Raditz had concluded. Goku sacrificed himself to give Raditz a second chance! What will Raditz do with this second chance? Will he truly have a change of heart? What's in store for our new comrade? Find out next in the next "Legacy of Raditz" Pt.3
