This entire chapter is one long author's note, the next chapter will be uploaded tomorrow. This is here to address some of the reviews from people who I cannot PM because they have the feature turned off or because they are not on an account.
To Behaartas:
I will explain what questions I understand, and ask for clarification on those I don't, either because they are incomplete (is this because you were typing in a hurry, or just an issue with the site?).
Jaune did not have his aura at birth, but he did have the system. Why this is will come later, but rest assured that Jaune has no clue, and hasn't told anyone. Before his aura was unlocked, he simply had a locked MP bar. Him never improving is also something that I think I didn't explain very well. He did get faster and stronger, but not to the extent he should have with the training he was doing. 10 strength in a 2 year old and 10 strength in a 17 year old are very different things. I realize that I never explained this, but it's also not super important.
Crocea Mors being passed down never made sense to me either, since that would mean that the patriarch would have to switch weapons every time his son, or daughter, became old enough to wield Crocea Mors.
The rotten breath from the Grimm was something that I thought up. If an Ursa takes a bite out of someone while attacking them, the Grimm doesn't swallow or wash out its mouth or anything, so some trace amounts of rotting meat would remain to create the smell.
Saphron was not a hunter in Canon, this is true. I changed this detail because Jaune's mentality makes more sense if every single one of his family members is actually a hunter. It makes it so he doesn't get the sense that he can do something else.
Jaune did not confirm his choice on upping his Vigor, he was simply trying it out to see what happened when he pressed the arrows. He never actually raised the attribute, because he saw that a point in Mind gave him twice as much aura as a point in Vigor gave HP.
He does not have his armor, mostly because I forgot about it and I'm too lazy to go back and change it. Also, now that I think about it, Canon Jaune thought he needed armor, because he didn't have or know about aura. I imagine that a Jaune who has his aura unlocked wouldn't go through the trouble of buying armor, not when most other hunters go without.
As for headbutting the robot, I don't know how Canon Jaune felt about headbutting that Ursa, but believe me, headbutting a person rattles you, let alone a metal faceplate. This is not to say that he took much damage, but the impact would make his brain rattle around a little.
I'm not sure what you mean by the bit about aura quality. His aura isn't getting 'denser' or anything like that with a higher Mind score, he simply has more. It blocks just as much as before, it only looks like it's doing more because Jaune isn't looking at numbers during a fight, but at a bar that is the same length at 400 max MP as it is at 200 max MP. The scale is just different. I'm not sure if this is what you were asking, but if it's not, feel free to ask again.
As for pushing aura into weapons and stuff, I'm mostly ignoring it because it's annoying to write and doesn't really add anything to the fight scenes. It would just pad the word count and make it seem slower paced, which is the opposite of what I want in a fight scene. (Unless Jaune is in complete control, which won't happen unless he's very experienced against a certain opponent or way stronger than his opponent)
He doesn't have skills like in the Gamer Manhwa which level up. That isn't to say that he can't learn how to do the aura punch we see Ren do, he can certainly learn it, he just doesn't have a skill for it in the game's interface. This is mostly because those are a lot of work to write and don't really provide any value to the story. It also gives Jaune a way to grind without any consequences.
About the fight scenes, I don't know too much about actual sword fighting. I've trained in a couple of martial arts, but not extensively. So, I know a little bit about fighting, but not much about how to use weapons. The word is cut out, but I assume you mean that a sword like Crocea Mors would be stabbed more than swung? I have started incorporating some more stabs into the later fight scenes, but not overly so. If anyone has experience in the subject, feel free to send me a message, I'd love to learn more about it.
How Pyrrha was almost killed by the Deathstalker is pretty simple. It's insanely overleveled and her aura isn't bigger than Jaune's. Even if her mind score is higher, her aura would still have been lower. Her getting hit directly might not have killed her instantly, it might have just broken her aura or something, but that's more because the Deathstalker is strong than because Pyrrha is weak. A hit to Jaune's shield almost broke his aura after all.
He can get tired, both physically and mentally, but the physical fatigue goes away faster the higher his Endurance stat is. To recover mentally, he doesn't have to sleep, he can just unwind in other ways. Hobbies, taking a walk, taking a shower etc. I actually already have a scene that explains this in Chapter 14, but you guys will just have to wait a little bit for that.
I don't know about those other teachers, I checked the Wiki and didn't find anything, so I made them up. Whether they are different in Canon doesn't really matter anyways. As for Chemistry, it is the class about dust, I mentioned this in a previous A/N or maybe in a PM to someone with the same question, I can't recall.
Pyrrha did study at Sanctum, which is in Argus, but let's be honest, getting used to a cold climate can take a hell of a long time. I know some people who come from the middle east who are still not used to a colder climate after living in one for over 10 years. As for north and south Mistral, I imagined the north as being more Asian (China, Japan, Korea etc.) And the south being more similar to Greece, Persia, Rome and those cultures. This will come much, much later when my Mistral arc comes around (Completely different from the Canon Mistral arc, since I'll have thrown Canon out of the window by then.)
I didn't know aura protected against the cold, it didn't say so on the RWBY wiki, but I could have missed it. In the end, that's not really super important, so I won't go back to change it.
He will eventually get some ranged options, though I'll leave what those are going to be out for now, as they'll spoil some of the plot.
Don't worry about the long comment, it gave me an excuse to properly do one of these so it's fine.
To a Guest:
He is doing maintenance on his weapons, I'm not showing it because it's not that important.
To Siorre L'anthii:
I don't mind very much that you are not going to continue reading, as it's not everyone's cup of tea. There are some points in there that might clarify some things for the rest of you though.
I don't think Jaune cursed all that much, and I don't plan on having him curse a lot, but that could just be me. I'm not planning to have him become any sort of 'dark' character or even any kind of edgelord since I don't enjoy stories like that myself. Despite what many in the reviews seem to think, absorbing Dust isn't making him Grimm-like at all, and it never will. It's not like getting Runes in Elden Ring turns you into the Erdtree or some avatar of Marika or anything, so why would it do that here?
Weiss is also a bitch here, but no more so than she was in Canon. After all, nothing Jaune has done would change Weiss' personality, and I'm trying to keep the start close-ish to Canon until Jaune changes things, since that was the premise in my head. But, just like in Canon, Weiss gets a lot better, and Jaune is still fundamentally a great guy, who will forgive her if she actually shows that she's changed. I hope this clears things up, because I'm not going to sit here and bash Weiss for being a bitch at the start of Canon when she clearly becomes better later on, she also doesn't fall in love with him. (Too bad for the people who had hoped that that would be the pairing.)
To Canthurt:
Yes, he gets more aura than others when he gets a point in Mind. Do remember that other people don't have stats like Jaune does, though. It's just something I made up to represent that he has unusually large aura reserves in Canon. He does not have traits that give bonusses or skills that can level. Spells will have descriptions that he can read, and get stronger by scaling with his stats.I also haven't posted this anywhere else, mostly because I don't really use any other sites.
To the Spanish Guest:
Thanks for the kind words. I want to clarify again, though, that Jaune is not becoming Grimm-like at all. This is more like Dark Souls or Elden Ring than Bloodborne.
To InfamouslyHandsome:
I understand why you think he should up his Vigor, and I do too. But this is because we know it to be an important stat in souls games. Jaune, who has played video games before, but not any soulslikes, cannot know this. He thinks that aura is basically a better version, since he gets more of it per level than he would if HP if he put points into Vigor. Since nothing can touch him as long as he has aura left, it makes more sense to him to focus on Mind.
To Twinstardragon:
No, he isn't going to be a dickhead to Weiss. Maybe he'll fuck with her a little bit, but nothing overt. Mostly because Jaune is still a great guy, and because he's stuck with her for another 4 years, to him it doesn't make sense to antagonize her too much.
To Insanecoop:
Any Grimm that dies near him gives him Dust, but I'm limiting that by what I think is reasonable. Otherwise Jaune could go out into the forest while the whole of Beacon culls the Grimm and powerlevel that way. That doesn't make for a very good story. It's mostly going to be Grimm he had some hand in killing, though he doesn't necessarily need to get the finishing blow.
To MereC55:
He does reach out to his team eventually, the chapter where he does so it already written. It's not sudden, and there is build-up, at least I think so. You'll just have to see.
To Nanonano15243:
Same as the explanation above, it's already written.
I think/hope I got most of the questions out of the way. Feel free to PM me or leave another review if you have more, though. The next chapter will be out tomorrow, and another chapter every other day. I've been keeping to that schedule for the last week and a half or so, and it fits well with my schedule. It might change one day, but I'll definitely let you guys know if it does.
Have a good one!
