I gulped nervously looking way up at Tank. I knew he wouldn't hurt me but his rage was tangible. "Tank- I"

Tank gestured for me to be quiet and I swear I saw him mentally count to ten. "Steph I haven't slept in 34 hours, my best friend is being held at an unknown location and is being tortured by someone we trusted. I don't have the time or resources at the moment to be babysitting you. Can you give me one good reason why I shouldn't just lock you in the apartment until this is dealt with."

The threat made me grit my teeth but I forced myself to stay calm. "I'll give you several. First of all, I'm staying in the building because its the smart thing to do but you have no right to imprison me. Secondly I wasn't being a complete idiot. I stayed in the building, I took Junior with me and I followed his safety restrictions. Yes I tricked him, which I feel awful about by the way and I didn't get your ok but you haven't really given me the chance to discuss anything with you and I knew that you'd say no anyways. And third, I got some good intel before you interrupted and I'm pretty sure I just got a new lead. Look I can't lead a rescue, or use military connections but I am good at talking with people and solving puzzles. So either accept the fact that I'm going to do what I can to help, while following reasonable safety restrictions or you can try to detain me and I will do my very best to get away and file a complaint with the police."

Tank glared at me and I glared right back. There was silence for a minute before Tank snorted. "Ranger's got his hands full with you. Fine Steph but we will be discussing the manipulation of the men later. And setting up some 'reasonable safety restrictions'. You say you've got a lead? Can I trust you to stay at your desk while I get a few hours of sleep?" I nodded relieved that he was finally listening to me. "Seriously Steph, I'm at the end of my rope here. You'll stay at your desk, running your lead until I come back down and then we can discuss what's next." I nodded again and he sighed, gesturing me back to the elevator and pressing floor 5.

As the doors opened he looked at me again. "Leave Junior alone Steph. He's under orders not to be near you." I flushed, embarrassed that he knew I was going to go up to Junior to apologize again. He held the elevator door open and stared at me until I agreed quietly and then I turned and hurried to my desk. I could feel the eyes on me and knew that Junior and Zero were both staring at me. They were frequently paired together and I was sure that Junior had already let him know that I lied… not to mention he would have seen the confrontation on cameras.

I was so busy trying to avoid making eye contact with them that I didn't even see Lester leaning against my desk til I had already reached it. He was looking at me unimpressed and I winced knowing that I was in for another lecture.

"You don't need to say it. I shouldn't have manipulated Junior. It was dumb but I have some new info to look into so I'm sorry, you are welcome to kick my ass later. Great thanks." I quickly shooed him off and got to work as he walked off bemused.

I pulled back up my previous search and read it through again. Cannon was an only child but Chip mentioned a brother who died. There was no children on file for either of his parents but if his dad was going to use him for a donor, he had to be a blood relation. Looks like I was doing some digging.

By the time Tank came back down 4 hours later I was bouncing in my seat. He glanced at me as he walked in but held up a hand for me to wait as he slipped into their command centre. I reminded myself that Tank was worn out and that I should be patient. Still the following 15 minutes killed me.

"Finally! It took some time but I finally tracked down a half sibling for Cannon. His dad had an affair with his neighbour growing up and the two kids were friends. It looks like they joined the army together and that's when they found out they were related. His brother died 3 years ago in Iraq and there was an investigation for possible friendly fire but the case was cleared quickly. His name was Lieutenant Billy Burke." I quickly summarized.

Tank tensed next to me. "Fuck."

"You knew him!" I exclaimed.

"Unfortunately. This shit is classified." Tank grumbled. "His unit was sent as backup on one of our missions. Shit went down and Burke broke formation to save a fellow soldier who was unconscious. Ranger risked his life going after him and got pinned down. He took three shots trying to get the two soldiers out and after Burke was killed he had to leave his body to carry the other soldier to safety. I remember there was some uproar being made by his family but there was never a case."

"So we finally have a motive. He blames Ranger for his brother's death. Oh god this is bad. He's going to kill him!"

"Information is power Steph. We can use this."

"Yeah but it doesn't get us any closer to finding him. I've got another plan Tank, but you're not going to like it."

Tank sighed. "What is it then?"

"I need to talk to Ricky… and I need to be alone."
