A/N: One of my faves to write, inspired by all the chick-flicks that are modernized retellings of classics.
Prompt by LoriRice16 "Harvey seeing Donna on the big screen in a movie theater and realizing he never should have let her go."

Much Ado About Nothing
Harvey sits paralyzed, unbelieving of what he's seeing on the big screen. He feels his jaw clench just as tightly as his right arm on the armrest further away from Scottie. He doesn't know if she even remembers that the dazzling redhead starring in the movie she'd been wanting to see for weeks was his former secretary, former best friend, former… everything before she stabbed him in the back.
He doesn't want to alert Scottie that anything is wrong, doesn't want to rock the already precarious boat of their three month relationship.
But all he can focus on is how beautiful Donna looks. How her eyes are just as bright as he remembered, lips just as full, voice just as pure. The only thing different is her radiant freckles were nowhere to be seen. And fuck whatever executive that robbed him of seeing the thing that haunts his dreams at night.
She told him she'd never swap her dreams of Broadway for Hollywood scripts, but clearly that's not true. She also told him she'd never leave him so really, he should stop trusting her words because they mean shit all.
Harvey calms his racing heart and shifts slightly in his seat, squirming a little as the Donna on screen begins reciting her unrequited love over some guy she broke up with.
"He just…used me, until I had nothing left to give, Sam. And the worst part is? I would've stayed, if he'd let me I would've kept giving him every inch of my being until I didn't recognize myself. Because I loved him that much." Donna's lips quivered on cue and her eyes ushered down tears as her friend soothed her with hugs and drinks at some bar.
Harvey swallows hard, hurt being the main feeling he has. He hadn't had a panic attack in a long time- since Donna left early on after they joined Pearson hardman, saying she can't stay for his dream because she'd never get to live hers if she did.
But he feels it now. Feels the beginning of his stomach clenching, beads of sweat running down his head and his vision blurry as his ears ring and his mind spirals to the last time he saw her.
"We can work your auditions in just like the D.A.'s office Donna."
"Harvey we can't this is different! It's too much it takes too much and I want to be the best and I can't be the best for you without giving up on me. And I don't want to do that."
"Donna please, I need you."
"Harvey, this doesn't have to change we can still be friends!"
"No we can't. You're abandoning me this isn't friends behavior."
"Well maybe we're more than that."
"Is this an ultimatum? We date or I get nothing out of you? Well no thanks Donna. If you want to selfishly walk out on we're building here then that's that."
Donna's reaction was like a slap in the face, stunned at his words just as she was about to confess her feelings for him.
He feels his eyes go slightly misty as he pictured her monologue was about him. He pictured her crying over him, regretting the day she ever met him. He swore he felt his heart crack as Donna in character went through days and weeks of wallowing through a montage.
He never saw her again. Till now, gracing his date-night with Scottie, reminding him of everything he did wrong that day and every waking minute since then.
"Wow, never thought I'd see Harvey specter emotional over some Shakespeare-based chick-flick." Scottie teased through a murmur in his ear.
Harvey flinched at her words, forcing half a chuckle at that. "What can I say? She's good."
Scottie shot him a quizzical look that almost had him asking her to switch movies or feign food poisoning to end their date early- not sure he could handle what he's sure to be donna filming flirty, funny, sexy scenes with whatever fictitious man the scriptwriters came up with.
But the thought of not seeing Donna after finally catching a glimpse of her from the safety of a movie projector was too much to handle. Turns out Harvey's a gluttony for some punishment, a slave to his own self destructive-tendencies, relishing in the bittersweet feeling of watching Donna's dreams come true for the next hour and 40 minutes.
He hoped to god she was better off without him, because that would be the only thing that would make his suffering almost worth it. Almost.
