Work Crush
Samantha joining the firm has been somewhat, of an emotional rollercoaster. She came in all brash and demanding, locking horns with Harvey, dismissing Donna's authority, even bending against Robert and looking like she'd willingly burn half the firm down to get her name on the wall. She was reckless, impulsive, cocky, and immature.
She was the female version of a young Harvey specter.
Donna was weary at first. Guarding her own firm like a pitbull, eliciting her own network and Gretchen's to keep tabs on her, hell she nearly used her Donna shtick to coerce Robert into admitting a thing or two about G.I. Jane. But she pretty quickly read Samantha and realized what was going on, how it was all a facade of smoke and mirrors and that she was a good person to have on their team. An ally. In more ways than one. They bonded quickly. Donna wasn't sure if it was her similarity to Harvey, making her easy to get along with for her, or her need for new girl friends now that Rach was gone.
Either way Donna was glad Sam and her had struck a friendship after a rocky start.
Harvey began slowly accepting Donna's opinion on her, never once having been stirred wrong by his redhead's gut instincts on people. He liked Sam. She was funny, had Great War stories, a no bullshit attitude, and he commended her lawyer skills. It took him longer to grow accustomed to her, even longer to begrudgingly respect and tolerate her, finding her irritating at first before realizing there similarities and relating to her.
They had similar taste in movies, albeit she found his love for them immature, fucked up childhoods, love of boxing and testing the law. And apparently a similar taste in women.
He picked up on Samantha's interest in Donna, slowly. It started out small, with admiring comments here and there. "I didn't mean it as an insult. I found her loyalty to you admirable." "The smartest decision you made was promoting her." - Then the drinks at her office, or invites to quick power lunches and dinner after work. The one night at Donna's friends charity gala, with Donna dressed in that devestating pink gown he thought looked amazing against her pale freckles and striking red hair.
He overheard Samantha tease Donna, talking about coming here only to see her dressed up beautifully. It could've been innocent, fiendly complementary banter he knew women had with one another. But Wheeler had inched closer to Donna, encroaching on her personal space with a confident smirk and a lingering hand on Donna's forearm as Donna teased her right back.
Harvey swallowed his champagne in one gulp as his first inkling of Samantha's crush popped up in his mind.
He was more aware in the days that went on Sam definitely more than liked her. Her sudden snooping around Donna's friend's gala, looking out for her personal safety, the uptake of flirty conversations they'd have in passing, and now, Harvey and Sam were both waiting outside Donna's office, needing to talk to her about a client issue, as she wrapped up some phone call.
Harvey was busy admiring Donna, how her blue dress wrapped around her body, his eyes tracing over every inch of her as she swayed in her chair, multipen clicking in her left hand. Donna must've been convincing someone to do something they didn't want to be her smile went from polite to wicked as she smirked before baring her teeth out, her cute pink tongue sticking out just the tiniest bit as she licked her teeth in brash overzealous victory. Harvey exhaled softly watching her face shine with happiness as she tilted her head back laughing. She had an extra glow about her these days. He wasn't sure if he was just noticing it now or if maybe it's because of a new change in her life. Either way she looked-
"She's something else isn't she?" Samantha softly commented, a hint of arousal costing her chords snapping Harvey out of his trance. He looked warily to his side at Samantha who had a love struck look on her face as she categorically took in every inch of Donna as well.
Harvey cleared his throat. "Yeah, she is."
"They really don't make 'em like her anymore." She mumbled to herself. Harvey stiffened slightly at her comment before concealing his discomfort. "You like em like that Wheeler?" Harvey wasn't sure if he was confronting her on her sexuality or crush on Donna. Sam chuckled "Only blind bats wouldn't." She glanced down at her watch "shit I gotta go, just tell me what Donna reports back I have a meeting in 5." Harvey nodded as she scurried away.
Harvey made his way into Donna's office, seeing she was finally wrapping up her conversation.
"Hey you," she greeted him eyes wide and eager glistening with a certain amount of giddiness that made Harvey's tongue dry up. He swallowed the feeling down, smiling back at her. "Hey yourself." He perched his body on the edge of her desk, letting his knee graze her leg, watching her breath minutely hitch, still not used to the little lines they get to blur at the office now. "So, looks like someone has a crush on you." Harvey sang out and Donna smirked knowingly at him before edging her chair closer. "You mean, Brad? I told him to get in line." Donna kidded about her phone call with their supplier. Harvey rolled his eyes "no, I'm thinking of someone else."
"Hmm and would that someone be the same man that was in my bed this morning? Because I'd say the feelings mutual." She whispered the last part, face looking up at him with dilated pupils and a flutter of her lashes that reminded him of her face in between his legs at 5 am in the morning.
Christ, he was done for. "No," he drawled out "I'm talking about one miss wheeler." Donna blinked in surprise before laughing. "Really?" She twisted her chair around mulling over Harvey's comment. "Huh."
Harvey didn't care for the sudden prideful glint in her eye or the fact she was inching away from him as she digested the fact. He fixed the issue by leaning closer to her. "Yeah seems like she has the hots for you." Donna snorted at his choice of word. "Who wouldn't really?" She sassed him and Harvey sent her a rueful smile.
"I mean cmon, can you blame her?" Donna gestured her hand over her own body.
"I sure as hell don't." Harvey growled his eyes turning dark and his words filled with lust as he paid close attention to her lips, before locking back in on her hazel eyes. Donna's own eyes widened as they took on his obvious sex eyes, screaming what he was thinking about doing to her. She darted her gaze to make sure her door was closed and no one could see them through her glass walls. "Harvey," she murmured in warning.
"What? I'm just paying forward Sam's compliments. I'm completely innocent here. Would you rather she came and told you herself?" He was joking, obviously, but Donna picked up on a hint of bitterness in his words.
Donna cocked her head to the side as she analyzed Harvey's face. His slightly pursed lips, the clenching of the jaw, his frowned brow… "are you jealous of a little competition Specter?"
Harvey scoffed at her. "Please, there's no competition."
"You're right, there isn't. Because you're mine. And I'm yours. Only yours. I know I said we should keep us a secret, but that doesn't change anything between us."
She softly caressed his thigh as she reassured him, her voice taking on that sweet tone she only ever used with him. Harvey felt embarrassed at how relieved he was at her statement. "I know that," he mumbled before hastily adding "now." As she cocked her head to the side knowingly.
"So you're not going to pursue this new admirer of yours? No second thoughts about us?" Donna thought about teasing him, mentioning her time at theater camp or how Samantha fills out suits better than him. But the hint of worry in his eyes reminds her why she shouldn't. it's so new in their relationship-dynamic after years of doubt. Still… she couldn't completely stop the jokes.
"Harvey if I stopped to think about every admirer I had I'd never get any work done." Harvey rolled his eyes at her cocky attitude. She stopped deflecting "I meant it, you're the only one I want." She reassured him. Her voice was soft and her smile even softer.
Harvey thanked god that that was finally his reality. "Good. You're the only one for me too." He murmured shyly still not used to wording his emotions so freely. Donna's cheeks were painted a bashful pink, not used to his forwardness either. Her eyes practically sheened with love pouring out of her at his words, and she bit back her instinct to say she loved him knowing they'd never get any work done if she caved to every whim she felt towards him now.
"Well, duh." Donna teased biting her lip at Harvey's incredulous look he was giving her. He shook his head ruefully before inching closer to her whispering in her ear. "lucky you have your rules saving you from what exactly I'd be doing to you as retaliation right now, Donna."
Donna's eyes widened at his promising words uttered deeply, vocal cords dipped in dominance and sultriness.
"Fuck, I can't wait." She purred and Harvey smirked at her before getting up and fixing his tie, needing his hands to be distracted from the urge of pinning Donna down against him in her office chair. "My place at 7. Don't be late." He walked away before his eyes could take in her state of need for him.
