Chapter 3: Making a Home
As the kids kept looking, they heard whimpering from a corner of the classroom. "Marcie, your backpack's grown a tail." Lila giggled as Marcie put her headphones and book away.
"Poor little guy, I guess he got tired of all the noise and just wanted to find a quiet place to sleep." Julie said.
"Maybe he needs a bigger box, so he won't escape again." Charlie Brown stated.
"I think you're right, Charlie Brown." Min commented.
"HEY EVERYONE, COME ON UP AND SEE MY SURPRISE!" Shawn called out.
Marcie smiled "FINALLY, THE TREEHOUSE IS FREE AGAIN!"
"Well, there she goes." Barney chuckled.
"QUICK! FOLLOW THAT NERD!" Lucy announced.
Lila smiled "You guys go ahead. I'll stay here with Snoopy and the puppy."
"Are you sure?" asked Julie.
"Positive." Lila replied.
"Okay." Min shrugged as the rest of the gang left.
Lila then smiled and sat with Snoopy and the puppy "I'm glad we're reunited, Snoopy."
Snoopy barked in response and licked Lila's face. The little girl then sighed "I'm sorry I had to put you back up for adoption; but I'm glad you found a special family with Charlie and Sally."
Smiling, Snoopy pulled Lila into a hug. "Snoopy!" she giggled. As the two hugged, Lila began having a flashback on when she first adopted Snoopy, all those years ago.
Young Lila:
I know you're frightened and feel all alone,
Not sure if you really belong.
But Snoopy, with me, you will always be home
And that's why I sing you this song
I'll be someone to love you forever,
Sharing tomorrow together.
Present day and Lila and Snoopy were still cuddling together with the puppy.
Lila:
If you are lonely or just feeling sad.
Just look in my eyes and you'll see
It doesn't matter if you're good or bad.
You'll always be special to me.
I'll be someone to love you forever,
Sharing tomorrow together.
When you reach out to me,
I will always be someone to love you forever.
Lila (Snoopy):
Someone to love you forever
Sharing tomorrow together
When you reach out to me,
I will always be someone to love you forever.
I love you
I'll love you...forever
(AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)
Out on the playground, Barney and the rest of the kids were standing in front of the treehouse tree 'Has anyone guessed what Shawn is making?" wondered Barney.
"I KNOW!" Heather smiled.
"What?" asked Jason.
"Well, he had a bird book AND bird seed. I bet he was making a bird feeder."
"I don't know; he was doing an awful lot of hammering, up there." Carlos spoke up. "I think he was making a little house for the birds."
Marcie giggled and hugged Webster "Well at least he's no longer hammering."
"Let's go up and see what he made." Charlie Brown said.
The gang made it up to the treehouse. "Has anyone guessed my surprise yet?" Shawn asked.
"I think it's a birdhouse." Carlos said.
"I think it's a birdfeeder." Heather smiled.
"You're both right!" Shawn smiled. "It's a bird village!" He then showed off his bird village with different kinds of birdhouses.
"Why so many birdhouses?" Charlie Brown asked.
"Each house is for a different kind of bird." Shawn explained.
"What's the shoe for?" Min asked.
"That's for a wren. A wren will make it's home in just about any cozy place." Shawn explained.
"But what about the plastic pipe?" Sally asked.
"That's for a sparrow." Shawn said.
"This will be very cool for when Woodstock, his friends, and all the other birds come." Carlos smiled.
"I hope when they come they all stay for a very long time." Linus smiled.
"Me too." Shawn smiled. "I hope they don't all fly away like the little chickadees."
"The little chickadees?" Julie asked.
"Sure. Remember the story?" Shawn asked.
Barney, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
Four little chickadees sitting in a tree.
One flew away and then there were three.
Chickadee, chickadee happy all day.
Chickadee, chickadee fly, fly away.
Chickadee, chickadee happy all day.
Chickadee, chickadee fly, fly away.
Three little chickadees looking at you.
One flew away and then there were two.
Chickadee, chickadee happy all day.
Chickadee, chickadee fly, fly away.
Two little chickadees sitting in the sun.
One flew away and then there was one.
Chickadee, chickadee happy all day.
Chickadee, chickadee fly, fly away.
One little chickadee left all alone.
He flew away and then there were none.
Chickadee, chickadee happy all day.
Chickadee, chickadee fly, fly away.
"Hey, look. A bird just went into one of the houses." Jason commented.
"Maybe she's a momma bird looking for a house to call home." Heather suggested.
"MUST YOU be so bubbly?" Lucy commented.
"Hey! We can make a house for the puppy!" Carlos commented.
"That's a great idea!" Min replied.
Shawn was confused "Wait a minute, WHAT are you talking about?"
"Min brought a puppy to school!" Julie explained.
"Oh, cool! I have plenty of wood left, that we can use." Shawn explained.
"Great." Linus stated.
Min smiled "Then let's get started."
"But how big should it be?" Marcie asked, giving Webster a hug.
"And what should it look like?" Rerun added.
"You can all decide that together. And draw a picture of the doghouse you'd like to make." Barney said.
"If we're gonna do this together..." Sally gave a grin and rushed down the stairs and over to the classroom. "LILA, COME ON!"
Lila jolted and looked over "What is it?" she asked.
"WE'RE MAKING A DOGHOUSE!" Sally explained.
"Awesome!" Lila looked over "Snoopy, keep a good eye on the little guy, okay?"
Snoopy nodded as Lila rushed up to the treehouse and joined her friends. "Here, Sally. Why don't you draw it?" Shawn asked, handing paper and markers to the blonde six year old. "You're a good artist."
"OK!" Sally smiled. "It should have four walls..."
"And we need a door." Julie added.
"Why don't you put the door over there, then make the roof like this, and make a porch?" Lila suggested.
"A porch?" everyone else asked, confused.
"What would a dog need a porch for?" Lucy asked.
"Well, it sure would be different." Barney chuckled.
"Maybe he'd like a porch." Julie said.
"What about a window so he could see out?" ReRun suggested.
"OK." Sally smiled as she continued drawing. It wasn't long until she was finished. "This isn't like Snoopy's doghouse, that's for sure."
"I think it looks neat." Linus smiled.
"And the puppy will love it." Lila smiled. "I can't wait to start building it."
"While you work on the house, I think I'll go down and keep the puppy company so he won't be lonely." Min said. She then went downstairs.
"Will you help us put the house together, Barney?" asked Julie.
"Why sure, Julie! I'd love to!" Barney smiled. "Let's start getting all of our supplies together."
With that, the kids started to work on the doghouse.
