Chapter 4: A Girl and Her Puppy

Back in the classroom, Min and Snoopy were keeping the puppy company as Lila and Julie came in. "Hi Min. The doghouse is almost finished." Lila smiled.

"Great." Min said sadly.

"How's he doing?" Julie asked.

"OK." Min replied sadly.

"What's wrong, Min?" Lila asked.

"I really wanna keep him." Min explained.

"He's so cute." Lila cooed.

"So, why don't you?" Julie wondered.

Min sighed "I just can't. I can't take care of him."

"Does that make you sad?" Lila asked.

"Yeah, but I know it's best to find him another home. I just wanna make sure I can find someone who can love him and take really good care of him."

"HEY MIN, COME ON OUT AND SEE THE HOUSE!" Sally exclaimed.

"I understand." Lila told Min "It's hard to say goodbye to a puppy, let alone six. If you ever wanna talk about it, I'll listen."

"Thanks, Lila. Will you two stay with him a little while?" Min asked, still a bit sad.

"Sure." Julie replied.

"We can do that." Lila said. "Anything for a friend."

Julie then cuddled with the puppy as Min left. "You sure are a cute little guy." she smiled. "Don't you worry. We're going to find someone to adopt you, just like Lila then Charlie Brown adopted Snoopy, and like my parents adopted me. And you know what? When you're adopted, it means you'll have someone to love you forever."

Julie:

I know you're frightened and feel all alone,

Not sure if you really belong.

But puppy with me, you will always be home

And that's why I sing you this song

I'll be someone to love you forever,

Sharing tomorrow together.

When you reach out to me,

I will always be someone to love you forever.

If you are lonely or just feeling sad.

Just look in my eyes and you'll see

It doesn't matter if you're good or bad.

You'll always be special to me.

I'll be someone to love you forever,

Sharing tomorrow together.

When you reach out to me,

I will always be someone to love you forever.

Someone to love you forever

Sharing tomorrow together

When you reach out to me,

I will always be someone to love you forever.

I love you

I'll love you...forever

Barney and the kids then came back with the doghouse. "Oh boy. I know he's going to just love it!" Barney bubbled with excitement as they set the doghouse down.

"Look! Here's your new doghouse." Charlie Brown smiled.

"What do you think, puppy? Pretty neat, huh?" Julie asked.

"It has a mirror, so you can see yourself grow." Min smiled.

"It has a bone on a string so you'll always know where to find it." Linus smiled.

"And you have a bell over here when you feel like making some noise." Jason smiled.

"And I put in a special toy inside." Lila smiled, pulling out a red ball. "See?"

"This is a neat house, and I think he really likes it." Julie smiled. "But I think there's something missing. He needs someone to love him and take care of him."

"Yeah?" Charlie Brown asked.

"So, if my mom says it's OK, I decided I want to adopt him!" Julie smiled.

"WHOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Snoopy smiled.

"Now you'll really have a home, with Julie." Lila cooed to the puppy.

Julie:

Oh, a home is a place to live in,

To eat and sleep and be

With the people you love and care about,

Yes, that's a home to me.

Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang (minus Lila):

And maybe it's a little house,

Or a big house,

Or a farm with an old pet dog

Or maybe it's a palace,

Or an apartment,

Or a cabin made from logs.

Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:

Oh, a home is a place to live in,

To eat and sleep and be

With the people you love and care about,

Yes, that's a home to me.

Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang (except Lila):

And maybe it's a brick house,

Or a wooden house,

Or a house shaped like a ball,

Or then again a houseboat,

Or a mobile home,

We've nearly named them all.

Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:

Oh, a home is a place to live in,

To eat and sleep and be

With the people you love and care about,

Yes, that's a home to me.

Yes, that's a home to me.

"I'm so glad you've decided to adopt the puppy. I know you'll take really good care of him." Min explained.

"Well, I'll have to ask my mom, first." Julie reminded.

Linus smiled "And you can tell her he comes with his own house."

"She'll like that!"

"Most mothers would." Violet added.

"So now that you plan to adopt him, what do you plan to call him?" Carlos asked.

Julie pondered about it. "I don't know."

"Well, whatever you decide to call him, I know he's going to love whenever you call his name." Barney smiled.

Julie:

I love you, you love me.

We're a happy family.

Barney, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

With a great big hug

And a kiss from me to you,

Won't you say you love me too?

I love you, you love me,

We're best friends,

Like friends should be

With a great big hug,

And a kiss from me to you,

Won't you say you love me too?

"Come on! Let's ask your mom if you can adopt the puppy." Min smiled.

"Bye Barney, bye Snoopy!" the kids smiled and waved.

As Snoopy watched the kids leave, he smiled. Happy that Lila was back and even happier that they could now make more memories. Smiling, Snoopy hugged the Barney doll tightly as the two winked at each other.
