Chapter 7
Bella's POV:
It took a while to set everything up — five candles placed in a loose circle on the floor — but once it was taken care of Piper had me move to the side opposite her and Pheobe of the circle. After lighting the candles Piper and Pheobe start to speak in unison.
Hear these words,
Hear my cry,
Spirit from the other side,
Come to me,
I summon thee,
Cross now the great divide.
A swirl of lights similar to Leo orbing, but whiter appears in the circle taking the shape of an elderly woman. She's wearing a red dress with simple flats and has a reddish blonde hair color.
"Girls," the woman — apparently my great-grandmother — exclaims. "I'm so sorry about Prue. Your mother is with her now to help her adjust."
"That's nice, Grams," Piper starts, "but we have some problems. Broken Power of Three, the Source's assassin, long lost niece, and Cold Ones. How are we supposed to do this without Prue?"
At the mention of me Grams turns around and meets my gaze with brown eyes just like mine. "Isabella," she raises her hand to cover her mouth in shock. "Oh, you've grown so beautifully."
I just stand there taking her in, but Piper speaks back up. "Grams, don't act like you haven't been watching her on your little cloud up there, but back to the matter at hand. Shax. What do you know and how can we vanquish him without the Power of Three?"
Grams walks to the edge of the circle to stand in front of me. She gives me a sad smile, "I'm sorry my dear, for not giving you the chance to grow up with your family. "The girls had their destiny ahead of them, and it needed to be preserved." Your mother's time on this plane is over," she turns her head over her shoulder to look at Piper and Pheobe, "but your destiny still awaits you. Give it time and you will understand."
She takes a step back and looks back at me, "Prue will be glad to know you are here Isabella. Trust each other and know that we are watching over you." with that she disappears in a swirl of lights just as she came.
"Well, that was helpful," Pheobe says.
Jasper, Peter, and Charlotte come into the attic from outside the door where they were waiting. "If you think about it, it
made plenty of sense," Peter states. "The destiny for you two," he points at Piper and Pheobe, "is to be the Charmed ones. Not to be blunt, but if Prue isn't coming back, but your destiny is still in play doesn't that mean there is another sister?"
"I need to sit down," Piper replies while moving over to the couch on the wall.
"Another sister," Pheobe questions.
"All I got from that was just go about your business and she'll come to you."
The next two days were full of time spent together, setting up my mom's funeral, and putting on a show for Charlie to have me come stay out in San Fransico. Charlie talked on the phone with Piper and she said she would handle all the arrangements — which consisted of Leo orbing me and my bags out of the airport — and Charlie put in a call to the school for a family emergency so I could miss a few days. The school will just send me my work over email, so that's covered.
After my arrival, Pheobe had taken me shopping for a dress for the funeral. A small little black dress that was nothing flashy. I met quite a few people. I got to meet my grandfather, Victor — who told me to call him Grandpa. To say he was shocked about me was an understatement. He spent a good minute ranting to thin air about Grams and her meddling. I met Cole — Pheobe's boyfriend — who is half-demon, but wouldn't show me his demon side. He told me it would be better if I looked him up in the Book of Shadows. I also met Darryl who was my dad's partner. Darryl had no problems telling me about my dad, Inspector Andrew Trudeau.
Pheobe also decided it was a good idea to see if I had any other powers. That led to the discovery that I did inherit something from Piper as well. It's a good thing I'm not naturally jumpy because then I would be blowing and freezing things up left and right. I also got my mom's power of telekinesis, which sounds fun.
I did get the lecture about personal gain and a basic rundown of things related to being a witch. Spell crafting and potion making. I spent my free time in the attic just looking over the Book of Shadows — thoroughly reading up on the demon who killed my mom and making an extra note on the Cold One page about the Volturi with the help of Charlotte — and wondering around my mom's room that Pipeer is letting me stay in.
My mom was a photojournalist for 415 Magazine and her work speaks for itself if the pictures in her room are anything to go by.
At the funeral, I was sitting in between both of my Aunts with their other halves sitting next to them in the front row. The service was different than what I've heard of, but Piper says that's due to it being a Wiccan funeral. I did shed a few tears for the time I didn't get with Prue. I wonder what it would have been like. I kept a hand on Piper and Pheobe in comfort just hoping it could help a little bit. Jasper, Peter, and Charlotte stayed at the manor because of the sun.
Once the service was over, my grandpa, aunts, and I lined up at the front to let people come and pay their respects. My mom touched a lot of lives and people were shocked to learn who I was, but I did get offers from people to tell me about her.
At the end of the line, there was a woman with black hair snow white skin, and familiar brown eyes. She walked up to where I was standing with Pheobe and said, 'I'm so sorry for your loss, both of you. I lost my parents when I was young and I know that can be tough."
Pheobe told her thank you and asked how she knew my mom. She gave a pretty vague answer, but I was still distracted by her eyes. Pheobe asked if they had met before, but the woman said no. When she shook Pheobe's hand, my aunt started to have a vision and fell to the ground. The woman backed up and moved out quickly making her way to the door.
I saw everyone else was helping Pheobe, so I took off after the woman because I just couldn't shake those eyes. I caught up with her just outside the church on the front steps. "Wait!" shouted. The woman stopped and turned to me. struggled to think of what to say, but then I had it. "I didn't catch your name?"
The woman smiled and said, "Paige, Paige Matthews."
I held out my hand to shake hers and said, "Bella, Bella Swan."
"Not Halliwell?"
"I didn't know about my mom until after she died. She had me when she was very young. My aunts decided to find me to let me know. Do you think we could talk sometime? It's just you said you knew what it was like to lose your parents and it'd be nice to talk to someone who gets it."
Paige just smiled, pulled a card out of her purse, and handed it to me. "Call me anytime. I have to head back to work so again sorry for your loss, Bella, and I'll talk to you later." With that, she turns and heads to the parking lot. I look at the card she gave me showing her name and number. a social worker? That sounds interesting.
I turn and go back inside just to see a bald man in tan robes flash in and shoot lightning at Cole. Cole dodged and threw my arm out like Pheobe showed me and the man flew against the wall. I looked to where Grandpa and Darryl were on the ground and realized they couldn't defend themselves. They need to be protected! If only this thing on my mind worked physically! I tried to imagine it and with a wave of my hand, a blue shimmering shield appeared over both of them.
Cole sends an energy ball at what I assume to be a demon which vanquishes it. Everybody moves from their hiding spots and Piper starts ranting before anyone can say anything about the shield. How do I get rid of it?!
"Stop it! Stop it, damn it! This is Prue's funeral for God's sake! Can we at least bury her in peace?! Is that too much to ask?!" Piper finishes by knocking over the vase she was next to and I still can't get this shield down! Piper doesn't even look up and just stomps her way out of the church.
"Um... Pheobe? How do I make it stop?" I ask gesturing to the shield over Grandpa and Darryl.
"Oh! That's new! Leo?"
"Just think and do the exact opposite of what you did that made it appear," Leo looks at Pheobe, "I'm gonna go after her." With a nod from my aunt, he leaves as well.
I take a second and think to myself. They're safe. They don't need protection anymore I can do this. I wave my hand in the same arc I did a minute ago and the shield vanishes just like that.
Pheobe walks over and puts her arms around me and says, "Come on. Let's go home we have things to talk about."
