A man wearing the robe of Squad 13 over his black shihakusho stood at the edge of the hill, looking over his subordinates training tirelessly to be prepared to protect the normal world and Soul Society from any harm.
"Captain Ukitake," someone called the man's attention.
Jushiro looked at his 3rd seats, Kiyone and Shintaro. Although they were qualified enough to become his vice-captain, he decided to wait for the most suitable candidate, Kuchiki Rukia, a shinigami with too much potential but hindered by the most influential man in Soul Society and his fellow captain.
Jushiro sighed, remembering the cold hard gaze he got when he informed the man that he sent Rukia on her first solo mission to the normal world. Although he said nothing, Jushiro knew that he was displeased.
"That young man is certainly still too stubborn," he commented to himself. Because no matter how much evidence suggests that Rukia is very capable, he still wouldn't let her go. Hence, Rukia has never been able to apply her incredible skills in battle.
But he still waits for the day that Rukia would become his vice-captain, as Kaien hoped too when he was alive. After all, he personally trained her to achieve her shikai after seeing her locked potential.
Jushiro smiled at the memory of when they returned from their training, and Rukia looked so happy for the first time since she joined his squad. Presenting to them her zanpakuto, which was later unanimously elected as the most beautiful zanpakuto in the world.
His heart is filled with hope that after she completes her task in the normal world, Byakuya would finally acknowledge her skills and approve of her to become his lieutenant.
A boy told a group of girls talking about Ichigo regarding the incident in Ichigo's house and how he might not be able to come to school.
"A truck!?" the girl with spiky short hair yelled in a mix of disbelief and worry. "So!? Is he hurt!?... Or maybe... Dead..."
"Alive," Ichigo suddenly interjected. "Sorry to disappoint you; we all survived."
"Ichigo!" the girl with long blond hair exclaimed enthusiastically. "G-good morning!" she added with a goofy grin on her face.
"Huh? Right," Ichigo replied, feeling awkward. "You're happy as usual, Orihime."
"You're here?" the male student from earlier asked Ichigo. "Weren't you fixing your house?"
"Yeah," he agreed. "What's third period?" he asked to change the subject. He just wanted to forget everything that had happened last night.
"Contemporary events," someone answered from behind Ichigo.
"That's Miss Ochi," Ichigo nonchalantly commented. "She won't ask annoying questions."
"Salam.. Ichi-" a female student began to call his given name, almost forgetting that only close friends call each other by their given names and not strangers. "Are you Kurosaki?"
Ichigo was about to sit on his chair when he became paralyzed as he recognized her voice. And so he turned around to look at her.
"Nice to meet you!" Rukia smiled beautifully at her new classmate.
Ichigo felt his entire body vigorously sweat, and he was rendered unable to speak.
"Oh," the boy from earlier interjected. "This is Rukia Kuchiki. She started yesterday," he presented.
Rukia's smile widened.
"It's an unusual time to transfer, but her family had to move," the boy added.
"Why are you..." Ichigo pointed at her in confusion and disbelief.
"What?" the boy looked confused at his friend.
"Ichigo, I don't have any textbooks yet," Rukia said in a very sweet voice as she showed him the side of her palm, totally forgetting that calling him by his given name signifies that they know each other very well.
"Astagfirallah..." she habitually added as she realized her mistake. "Do you mind sharing yours with me, Kurosaki-kun?"
Ichigo instinctively looked at her outstretched palm. And what's written on it sent shivers down his being.
'Make a scene and you're so DEAD.' The note on her palm said.
Rukia smiled at the boy. "Okay?"
