In this story, I wanted to explore what it would look like if Naruto was given the chance to develop emotionally and move past his unrequited feelings. With Jiraiya's guidance, Naruto begins to understand that love isn't just about chasing someone who doesn't return your feelings, but about finding someone who values you for who you are.

Jiraiya and Naruto were sitting around a campfire, it had been 2 years since they left Konoha in order for Naruto to get stronger to prepare for the Akatsuki. After having finished dinner, which surprisingly was something other than ramen, Naruto gazed up at the beautiful night sky which was full of stars.

"Something on your mind Naruto?" Jiraiya asked, taking a pause from writing his next volume of the "Icha Icha Paradise".

"Huh? Oh, well…..I guess I've just been thinking about how long we've been gone. It's been two years, huh, Ero-Sennin? I wonder how everyone's doing back home."

Jiraiya looked up from his writing, his expression softening as he studied Naruto's thoughtful face. "Yeah, it has been a while. Time flies when you're out training to save the world, huh?" he replied with a grin, though there was a knowing look in his eyes.

Naruto blinked, caught off guard by the question. "Huh? What kind of question is that? I've liked her since we were kids. She's… she's Sakura-chan! She's smart, she's pretty, and she's—"

"She's not weak! She's got a lot of potential, and she's one of the smartest from our class. And, uh… she's… she's kind when she wants to be." Naruto said trying to defend Sakura, albeit poorly.

"W-What's that?" Naruto asked nervously.

Naruto's expression grew more serious as he listened. He remembered that moment vividly—how terrified he had been, and how he had struggled to find a way to free Kakashi-sensei.

I decided to make this fanfic because I watched Naruto and was frustrated by his obsession with Sakura. I felt that he had so many other opportunities with girls who genuinely cared about him, but the story kept bringing him back to Sakura. So, I wanted to write a story where Naruto, with some help from Jiraiya, realizes that his crush on Sakura might not lead anywhere and begins to grow emotionally, seeking someone who truly appreciates him.

Jiraiya and Naruto were sitting around a campfire. It had been two years since they left Konoha to prepare Naruto for the Akatsuki. After dinner, Naruto gazed up at the starry night sky.

"Something on your mind, Naruto?" Jiraiya asked, pausing from writing his next volume of the "Icha Icha Paradise."

Jiraiya looked up, his expression softening as he studied Naruto's thoughtful face. "Yeah, it has been a while. Time flies when you're out training to save the world, huh?" he replied with a grin, though his eyes held a knowing look.

Naruto chuckled, but the smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "I guess so. But... I can't help but wonder how Sakura-chan is doing. I hope she's okay… you know, with Sasuke gone and all."

Jiraiya closed his notebook and set it aside, giving Naruto his full attention. "Still thinking about her, huh? From what Kakashi told me and from what I've seen, you've had feelings for her since you entered the academy. But tell me, Naruto—why her? Why are you so focused on showing her how strong you've become? What makes her so special in your eyes?"

Naruto blinked, caught off guard by the question. "Huh? What kind of question is that? I've liked her since we were kids. She's... she's Sakura-chan! She's smart, she's pretty, and she's—"

"Pretty? Smart? Sure, but what else? What has she done that makes her stand out to you?" Jiraiya asked, his tone gentle but probing.

"She's not weak! She's got a lot of potential, and she's one of the smartest from our class. And... she's... she's kind when she wants to be," Naruto said, trying to defend Sakura, albeit poorly.

Jiraiya raised an eyebrow. "Kind when she wants to be? Naruto, that's not exactly a glowing recommendation. Let's be honest here. Sakura has her strengths, but I want you to think about whether you're pursuing this for her, or if it's because it's what you've always done."

Naruto frowned slightly, trying to process Jiraiya's words. "What do you mean, Ero-Sennin?"

Jiraiya sighed, seeing the conflict in Naruto's eyes. "I'm not saying your feelings aren't real, Naruto," Jiraiya said, his tone softening. "But sometimes, we hold onto something because it's familiar, because it's been part of our lives for so long. You've been focused on showing Sakura how much you've grown, but have you ever stopped to think about what *you* really need? What will truly make you happy?"

Naruto's eyes narrowed slightly, reflecting on Jiraiya's words. "I just... I always thought that if I became strong enough, she'd finally see me. That she'd finally understand."

Jiraiya hesitated, his expression becoming more serious. "Naruto, strength isn't what makes someone fall in love with you. If it were, I'd have married Tsunade years ago. You're right, I've chased after Tsunade for a long time. I've been chasing after her since we were kids. But you know what, Naruto? She's never seen me that way, especially not after what happened with Dan and her younger brother. I've always known where I stand with her. I'm not deluding myself into thinking that she's suddenly going to fall in love with me because of something I do. I've accepted that. And yet, knowing that, I still choose to try."

Naruto looked down, trying to process Jiraiya's words, but the intensity of his emotions kept boiling inside him. He clenched his fists, the knuckles turning white as he finally snapped. "Enough!" Naruto shouted, standing up abruptly. "Stop comparing this to you and Tsunade! You don't get it, Ero-Sennin! You don't understand what it's like to feel like this every single day!"

Jiraiya opened his mouth to respond, but Naruto didn't give him a chance. His words came out in a rush, each one more charged with emotion than the last. "You think just because you've been chasing after Tsunade all these years that you know what I'm going through? But you don't! I've loved Sakura since we were kids—before I even knew what love really was! I've been waiting and fighting and hoping for her to notice me, to see me as more than just the loudmouth idiot from the academy!"

Naruto's breath came in ragged gasps as he struggled to keep his emotions in check, but it was no use. "How am I supposed to just let go? How am I supposed to just give up? Everything I've done—getting stronger, fighting against impossible odds—it's all been for her! So she'd finally see me, so she'd finally understand that I'm worthy of her!"

Jiraiya's patience snapped, and he shouted back, "You stubborn idiot!" His voice echoed through the night air, sharp and filled with frustration. "What part don't you get, Naruto? Sakura doesn't love you at all! Want proof? Look back at how she ignored you when Sasuke woke up after Tsunade healed him. She hugged him, didn't even care that you were there, that you were the reason Tsunade came back to the village and became Hokage in the first place!"

Naruto flinched, the memory hitting him like a punch to the gut. He remembered that moment vividly—Sakura's joy, her complete focus on Sasuke, and the way she had barely acknowledged him, the one who had fought so hard to bring Tsunade back.

"And you really think bringing the guy she's so blindly in love with back to the village will make her love you?" Jiraiya's voice was harsh, cutting through Naruto's defenses. "Even you know it's stupid, Naruto! You're deluding yourself!"

Naruto shook his head, his determination unyielding. "So what if I'm an idiot?! Like I told you before we left the village, in the hospital room—I will save Sasuke and keep my promise to Sakura! I never go back on my word—that's my nindō—my ninja way! I never break my promises!"

"Even if that promise gets you killed?!" Jiraiya shouted, stepping closer, his eyes blazing with an intensity that matched Naruto's. "What good is a promise if it leads to your death, Naruto? What about your future? Your dreams? Are you really willing to throw all that away just to keep a promise to a girl who doesn't see you the way you want her to?"

Naruto took a deep breath, his voice more controlled but still fierce. "If it means keeping my word, if it means bringing Sasuke back and making Sakura happy, then yes! I'd give up everything! I'll do whatever it takes! You don't get it, Ero-Sennin—this isn't just about love! It's about who I am! I'm nothing if I can't keep my promises!"

Jiraiya's frustration boiled over, but he softened his tone, realizing the depth of Naruto's conviction. "Naruto, I'm not telling you to give up on your promises or your feelings. You've always been someone who follows through, no matter what. But I want you to understand that your happiness matters too. You can keep your promises, but you need to ask yourself if you're also taking care of your own heart in the process."

Naruto's eyes were burning with unshed tears, but his resolve didn't waver. "I've been hated my whole life, Ero-Sennin! People have looked at me like I'm a monster, like I'm nothing! But this—this is something I can do! I can bring Sasuke back, and I can make Sakura happy! Even if it costs me everything, even if it kills me—at least then I'll have done something that matters!"

Jiraiya's eyes narrowed, his voice dropping to a dangerous tone. "You think dying for a promise is worth it? You think sacrificing your dreams, your future, your life is what's going to make everything right? What about your happiness, Naruto? Are you really willing to throw all that away, just to keep a promise that no one asked you to make?"

"YES!" Naruto roared, his fists shaking as he took a step closer to Jiraiya. "If that's what it takes, then yes! I'll do it! I don't care if it's stupid, or reckless, or if you think it's a

waste—I won't give up on Sasuke, and I won't give up on Sakura! I'll make them both see—I'll make them both understand!"

Jiraiya's heart clenched, seeing the raw desperation in Naruto's eyes. He knew this was more than just stubbornness—this was a deep, aching need to prove his worth, to show the world that he was more than the monster they had always seen him as. Jiraiya took a deep breath, trying to compose himself before speaking again.

"Listen to me, Naruto," Jiraiya continued, his eyes locking onto Naruto's. "You're not just some loudmouth kid trying to get noticed. You're a shinobi who's done things that most people can only dream of. You've got a heart that's bigger than anyone else's, and that's why it hurts so much. But holding onto something that isn't real—that's only going to hurt you more in the long run."

Naruto clenched his fists tighter, his body trembling with the effort to hold back the torrent of emotions inside him. "So what am I supposed to do?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Just give up on her? Pretend like she doesn't mean anything to me?"

"No," Jiraiya said softly. "I'm not asking you to pretend she doesn't mean anything. I'm asking you to think about what's best for you. To think about what you really want out of life. You can keep caring about Sakura, but you have to ask yourself—are you chasing after something that's never going to be, or are you holding yourself back from finding something real?"

Naruto's breath hitched, but his resolve didn't waver. "I'll keep my promises! I don't care if it's stupid, or reckless, or if you think it's a waste—I won't give up on Sasuke, and I won't give up on Sakura!

But Jiraiya couldn't let this continue. He couldn't let Naruto destroy himself in pursuit of something that wasn't real.

"You won't become Hokage, Naruto!" Jiraiya shouted, his voice filled with the weight of his fears. "You won't achieve any of your dreams if you're dead! Sakura will end up with a guy you can't stand, and you'll be nothing but a memory—a memory that no one will care about because you threw your life away for a promise that didn't mean anything!"

"So what if I die?!" Naruto screamed, his voice hoarse with emotion. "So what if I'm gone?! At least Sakura will be happy! At least she'll have Sasuke back! I've been hated my whole life, Ero-Sennin—no one will care if I'm gone! No one will miss me!"

In an instant, Jiraiya's hand shot out, and he slapped Naruto across the face, the sharp crack of the impact ringing through the night. Naruto stumbled back, shocked, his hand instinctively going to his cheek where the sting of the slap burned.

"Don't you ever say that again!" Jiraiya's voice was low and dangerous, his eyes blazing with an intensity Naruto had never seen before. "You think no one will care if you die? You think you're nothing? You're wrong, Naruto! You're dead wrong!"

Naruto stood frozen, his heart pounding in his chest as Jiraiya's words hammered into him.

"Do you have any idea how much you matter?" Jiraiya continued, his voice trembling with anger and something deeper—fear. "Do you have any idea what you mean to the people around you? To me? To your friends? You think dying for a promise, dying to make someone else happy, is worth it? You're willing to throw your life away just so Sakura can smile? What about your own life, Naruto? What about your own happiness? Are you really so blind that you'd sacrifice everything, including your dream of becoming Hokage, just to die unappreciated?"

Naruto's tears flowed freely now, his shoulders shaking as the weight of Jiraiya's words pressed down on him. He had always thought that keeping his promises, no matter what, was the most important thing. But now, standing there with Jiraiya, he was forced to confront a painful truth—what good was a promise if it led him to destruction?

Jiraiya stepped forward, pulling Naruto into a rough embrace, his hand resting on the back of Naruto's head. "You matter, Naruto. You matter more than you realize. Don't you dare think for one second that your life doesn't mean anything."

Naruto's resolve finally broke, and he sobbed into Jiraiya's shoulder, the weight of everything crashing down on him. All the pain, all the frustration, all the fear—he let it all out as Jiraiya held him, offering the comfort and strength Naruto so desperately needed.

Jiraiya held him tightly, his own eyes glistening with unshed tears. "You're not alone, Naruto. You've got people who care about you, who need you. Don't throw your life away for something that isn't real. You deserve to be happy, too."

As the tears finally began to subside, Naruto pulled back slightly, looking up at Jiraiya with red-rimmed eyes. "But… but what do I do, Ero-Sennin? How do I… how do I let go?"

Jiraiya sighed, his expression softening as he wiped the tears from Naruto's cheeks. "You really are an idiot sometimes, you know that, Naruto?" he said softly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "You're missing the point. I'm not telling you to give up on your promises, or on how you feel about Sakura."

Naruto blinked, confusion evident on his face. "But… then what are you saying?"

Jiraiya's eyes softened further as he ruffled Naruto's hair affectionately. "As your master, it's my job to look out for my student—not just in training, but in life. I want you to be proud of your decisions and the choices you make, without looking back and having so much regret later on. And I don't want you to blindly throw your life away. You're the Fourth Hokage's legacy, after all."

Naruto's eyes widened slightly at the mention of his father, the weight of his lineage adding to the importance of Jiraiya's words.

Jiraiya continued, his voice growing more determined. "And what do you mean, 'let go'? Such a word doesn't exist in your book, if I recall correctly. You're Naruto Uzumaki, the number one unpredictable knucklehead ninja of the Hidden Leaf Village—and my student. A student is supposed to inherit their will from their master, and I don't give up either."

Naruto's breath hitched, but he couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips as he absorbed Jiraiya's words.

"I'm saying that you can love Sakura, and you can keep your promise to bring Sasuke back, but you can't forget about yourself in the process. Your feelings and your promises are important, but so is your happiness and your life."

He pulled back slightly to look Naruto in the eyes. "You're not just a tool to fulfill a promise, Naruto. You've got a whole future ahead of you, and it's bright—brighter than you can imagine. You can still care about Sakura, and you can still bring Sasuke back, but you need to make sure you're taking care of yourself too. It's not about letting go of your feelings or your promises—it's about finding balance. You've got to live for yourself as well, not just for the promises you've made."

Naruto sniffled, the weight of Jiraiya's words slowly sinking in. "So… I don't have to give up on anything?"

"Exactly," Jiraiya said, his voice gentle but firm. "You don't have to give up on anything. Just make sure that you're not losing yourself in the process. You're allowed to want more, Naruto. You're allowed to think about what you want, too. And you deserve to be happy, even if it's hard to see that right now."

Naruto nodded slowly, the tension in his body easing just a bit. "Okay… I'll try, Ero-Sennin. I'll try to figure it out."

Jiraiya smiled warmly. "That's all I ask, Naruto. You'll figure it out. And no matter what, I'm here for you, okay?"

Naruto nodded again, this time with a little more strength behind it. "Okay," he whispered, his voice still shaky.

As the night settled around them, Naruto realized that he had a lot to think about, a lot to process. And eventually, he fell asleep.
