Chapter Twelve: Andrew's bike
Rivers POV:
He sat on the wall outside the school waiting, Peter hadn't seen Sam since the party and he wanted to see her and check in on her. When she had seen him on the ground after being hit, her eyes had been so full of concern and the stuff she'd said about saving him had made him sure she was still in love with him. He heard her bike before he saw her and when she took off her helmet, she looked at him. He had asked her how she was and her harsh words tore into him, yes he'd thought something was going on with them again but he hadn't said that. He'd just told her she was acting funny, because she was.
The rest of the day proved that to him even more, Mr Bell had asked him to help him pick out a motorbike. It was obvious what he wanted, to impress Sam. Rivers, didn't see it as helping Andrew impress Sam though. He saw it as an opportunity to spend more time around her, to show her he could be reasonable by helping a guy he didn't like with something, and he was hoping she would finally give in to the feelings he knew they were both feeling. This thing she had going with Andrew was bound to end; it was only a matter of time.
Sam acted disappointed with his presence, her words were harsh, trying to push him away but Peter knew it was all an act. He'd played that role, the role of pretending he didn't care. He'd tried that with her even, but no matter what he did his thoughts always turned to Sam. He had tried fighting it when she left, he tried fighting it again when he'd told her he'd stop hassling her. Sam couldn't hide anything from him because he knew a love like theirs was undeniable, written in the stars or whatever.
Sam's POV:
Seeing Rivers outside her flat made Sam angry, but only because she wanted to see him. Sam was even angrier when she realised he was there to help Andrew with a new motorbike. The motorbike Andrew had picked was a wreck and when Andrew told her that Rivers was going to fix it up for him, she realised his game. It would mean, Peter Rivers would be there a lot, right under her nose and making it harder for her to resist his charms. She'd hoped he would have given up by now, she'd worked so hard to make him see that it was over but now it was as if he was determined to win her back and she was conflicted because she wanted him, really wanted him but she knew it was wrong and she had Andrew now.
The idea of seeing more of Peter was hard. She already saw him every day at school, and he already occupied ninety percent of her thoughts. So, she knew seeing him working on Andrew's new motorbike would only bring back memories from before, when he'd fixed hers, when they'd first kissed, first fell in love, and when she had been happiest. Despite how happy she had been back then, she couldn't risk going back there; she couldn't risk her career again, and then there was Andrew to think of.
Sam had convinced Andrew that her relationship with Rivers was over and even though that was the truth, she hadn't convinced herself or even Peter of that fact. Sam's feelings had always been there, no matter how hard she'd tried to stuff them down and ignore them.
Sam couldn't help but stare at Peter as he worked, he was in a world of his own when he worked on an engine. It was the only thing that Peter was passionate about other than writing, other than her. As Peter turned round to look at her, she averted her eyes, not wanting to give him any indication of how she truly felt which was always so hard because it was as if he could read her mind sometimes.
Rivers POV:
Peter could sense her eyes on him, she was just standing there behind him, staring at the back of his head and when he turned round to look at her she walked away. It was very clear to Peter that Sam was trying to pretend she was over him. He finished Mr Bell's bike later that day and Sam rode off on it with Andrew, she made a point to show off her relationship in front of him. Maybe she wanted Peter to be jealous? Or maybe she just wanted him to think she loved Andrew, instead of him but that just proved his thoughts were right even more. She could try and hide it all she liked but but Sam still loved him, that was obvious. At first Rivers had been jealous of Andrew, and he still was a little bit but he knew that their relationship was a sham, bound to end sooner or later. Peter would just have to wait, wait for her to finally realise their love had been true love, the real deal. Peter realised that, that had been what he was doing all this time, waiting for Sam and he knew that no matter what happend, now or in the future he would always have Sam there in his heart, he would always wait for her. It didn't matter how pathetic that might make him look.
