Prologue

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

The Cyber Wars were over, leaving entire civilizations in ruin. The Jedi Knights were all but extinct. And the Old Republic – the democratic galactic government that had prevailed for almost 25,000 years – had been replaced by the Galactic Empire.

Yet the Empire's supreme ruler, the evil Emperor Madara Uchiha, remained hungry for even more power. To expand his rule and crush all remnants of the Old Republic, Madara approved the construction of a secret weapon: the F.L.E.I.J.A., an immense armored space station that could destroy an entire planet.

The Empire was not without opposition. The Alliance to restore the Republic – commonly known as the Rebel Alliance – led the fight to overturn the Empire and bring justice and freedom back to the galaxy.

After Rebel spies learned of the F.L.E.I.J.A. project, they managed to intercept an Imperial transmission of the space station's technical data. The Rebels hoped the data would reveal a way to destroy the F.L.E.I.J.A. The Empire was determined to recover the stolen plans… now in the possession of a young Senator from the planet Alderaan, Princess Usagi Tsukino.

However, her ship is captured by Imperial forces under the command of the evil Sith Lord, Ulquiorra Schiffer. Before she is captured, Usagi hides the plans, giving them to the fox droid named Tails.

Along with the plans and the Princess' holographic recording, Tails flees with his protocol droid friend, Alphonse, to the surface of the desert planet, Tatooine. The droids are captured by Jawa traders, who sell them to moisture farmers, Samuel Oak and Delia Ketchum and their nephew, Ash Ketchum. While cleaning the droids, Ash triggers part of Usagi's message, in which she requests help from Edward Elric.

The next morning, Ash finds Tails searching for Edward and meets Van Hohenheim, an old hermit who lives in the hills and reveals himself to be Edward Elric. Edward tells Ash of his days as one of the Jedi Knights, the former Galactic Republic peacekeepers with supernatural powers derived from an energy field called the Force, who were all but wiped out by the Empire.

Contrary to his uncle's statements, Ash learns that his father fought alongside Edward as a Jedi Knight. Edward tells Ash that Ulquiorra was his former pupil who turned to the Dark Side of the Force and killed Ash's father. Edward then presents to Ash his father's weapon, a Lightsaber.

Edward views Usahi's complete message in which she begs him to take the F.L.E.I.J.A. plans to her home planet of Alderaan and give them to her adoptive mother, Queen Euphemia li Britannia, for analysis. Edward invites Ash to accompany him to Alderaan and learn the ways of the Force. Ash declines, but changes his mind after discovering that Imperial Stormtroopers, searching for Alphonse and Tails, have destroyed his home and killed his aunt and uncle.

Edward and Ash hire smuggler Mamoru Chiba and his first mate, Moroha, to transport them to Alderaan on Mamoru's ship, the Archangel. Upon the Archangel's arrival at the location of Alderaan, the group discovers that the planet has been destroyed by order of the F.L.E.I.J.A. 's commanding officer, Grand Moff Charles zi Britannia, as a show of power. The Archangel is captured by the F.L.E.I.J.A.'s tractor beam and is brought into its hangar bay.

While Edward goes to disable the tractor beam, Ash discovers that Usagi is imprisoned abroad. With the help of Mamoru and Moroha, they rescue Usagi. After several escapes, the group makes its way back to the Archangel.

On the way back to the Archangel, Edward engages in Lightsaber duel with Ulquiorra. Once he is sure the others can escape, Edward allows himself to be killed, becoming one with the Force and leaving the fate of the galaxy in the hands of Ash Ketchum with Imperial forces pursuing them…
